I have a feeling that if more anti-stealth things are coming, so are other thief changes along with it. They’d kind of have to. One skill placing revealed on an enemy doesn’t do a lot.
Really? because any group I see running in WvW has at least one ranger, zergs have many rangers always. However I do agree that counterplay is a good thing, so now that rangers can disable thief class mechanic with the press of a single button, where are the skills to disable deathshroud, remove the abillity to summon clones/minions, or disable virtues/burst skills etc?
As to other thief changes along with it, you mean a further nerf to s/d, or the ‘buff’ to venom share (while at the same time making the spec even worse than before, since you cant stack any of the condi’s above 5 anyway)
Also i want #3 skill to add vulnerability, so power line with condi duration would still be a good choice for P/P

This is the problem that I always see in this forum. Your field of view is too narrow and it’s the main reason why you don’t see it.

Let the other class be OP, that has nothing to do with Thieves. If they remain OP and Anet acknowledge it, then they’ll get the nbat not us.

Many classes can do that with vuln and/or bleeds up to 25 stacks on multiple targets, and its NOT seen as op. So why would it be for thief to do it to a single target. We all do, and we did have it. During beta the shadow arts trait shadow protector actually provided protection. It was nerfed and changed to regen instead. So dont get your hopes up

Surely this can’t be it when they mean raids. Essentially Tequatl is a dps test, nothing like a what a real raid is.
Guild Wars 2 needs more exclusive content, something not everyone can do. Right now there is no reason to be good at your class everything is so easy in the game all you have to do is use zerker gear and auto attack essentially.
MattVisual mentions on GuildCast that Tequatl was what Arenanet meant when they said Guild Wars 2 style raids, I’m hoping he’s wrong but I had an inkling that was the case even before.
Can a dev confirm or deny this? Are Arenanet working on actual raids?
No. Just No. This game does not need content that locks out a part of the playerbase, in fact this game was built on the idea of not doing that.

DCUO has a very cool wardrobe system where every “look” you encountered or purchased etc. is stored forever for your character and you can mix and match infinately from the pool you have. I DO NOT find any plausible reason for ANET not to do the same in a game where cosmetics are as important as stats..
So glad to see somebody else mention the system used in DCUO because as far as cosmetic progression goes that game had it down perfectly and I spent most of time searching for pieces to complete my sets. The transmutation system is awful.
I agree that DCUO did it perfect from the player perspective, but how does a company make money off that. Do they charge gems every time you swap skins or charge gems every time you withdraw a skin from your locker? There would be no reason for anyone to buy trans stones from the gemstore, and as a result i doubt something like that will make it ingame. At most we will get a locker space to deposit skin items into, but quantity will be limited and trans stones needed
I’m not sure how you can say that. I’ve caught up to the train as a champ was dying and literally got one single hit in and still got loot credit (not in a group). This has happened to me multiple times where a single shortbow autoattack gets me full loot credit.

So far the excuse given was that 2x 1H meant two sigils, but now?An ascended dagger differs from an ascended GS just for 1 ingot.
But while you are fine using just the GS, you need 2 daggers (or a dagger and a sword, pistol, etc.).That is NOT balanced at all.
It is completely balanced as these are the sPvP forums and we don’t need any irrelevant chatter about PvE crafting of ascended weapons here.
I really doubt the change would be only for spvp, any change that affects the whole game, should have the whole game considered. In addition it has not been mentioned there is a further imbalance. 1h gets two sigils yes, and 2h has higher base damage to make up for it. So are we going to be increasing the base damage on all 1h weapons to match 2h as well as doubling the crafting costs of 2h when this change goes live? 2h hand weapons are already heavily favored in so many ways, this is not needed
I don’t know what made me decide to gamble today but I put about 15g into Exotic sceptors and tried to craft with Mystic Stones…I kept getting other weapons so I then just started putting all the sceptors in and I got two Emberglows and Storm! Booya!
Of course you got other weapons, mystic stones count as a random weapon/armor of the same quality as what you put in

Don’t they drop 4 per camp and 8 per tower? That means you would need to cap 15 camps and 5 towers in an hour to get that rate.
I’ve actually not paid attention to each, i thought it was somewhat randomized, but i’ve been averaging 100 an hour everytime i play. Just dont play wvw for dragonite, the drop on keeps and sm is terrible for that.
Does it make much difference in WvW? Will I have to grind for this gear in order to be competitive? I haven’t done any sort of PvP in this game(thinking about trying it), but I was under the impression that everyone was going to be equal in PvP, where skill mattered and you didn’t have to worry about gear.
You have alot of mistaken assumptions in your post. Everyone is equal stat wise in PvP this is correct. WvW is NOT pvp, its a pve enviroment that allows pvp, you use PVE gear and PVE stats, it is designed to be unfair, unequal the entire system is based on it. If you want fair and even, goto pure pvp, structured and tourneys not WvW. in addition ascended weapons do not add as much as some people claim, 10%? how is an extra 4 points of power 10% increase? Most chars i know run with a minimum of 2000 power, 4 points is more like a .2% increase. Not much, the base damage increase is greater, but still mostly irrelevant considering the strong condition meta that exists, and it should be noted, condi builds benefit almost nothing from ascended weapons (since in 99% of cases the +4 condi wont put them over the next tier of damage so they will do the exact same amount of damage)

Ascended jewelry can be obtained via laurels, badges, drops in fractals, drops in wvw chests, guild commendations. no shortage of ways to aquire them, ascended weapons can be found already made on any champion, any world chest, camp supervisors, all champs in towers/keeps/sm, it can be found as drops in fractals as well, no shortage of places to aquire it. Legendaries can be purchased on the TP, and since it seems you dont want to earn it, you can even buy gems via RMT and trade them for gold to get your legendary. You dont have to craft, you dont even have to earn it, quit the QQ fest

Yep, all thats required is a fat wallet (irl or in game) and the abillity to type the name of the legendary you want into the TP window (assuming its not listed on the left side already)
My complaint is not about not wanting to “earn it”. I’ll gladly partake in any game activity to “earn” what I need, as long as it is not Crafting. because Crafting is boring and tedious. If it were not so, I’d do Crafting as well.
I don’t partake in game activities that aren’t enjoyable to me. that is the basis of my complaint.
If I am mistaken and I don’’t have to partake in crafting to obtain these things, and I can “earn” them through other game activities, then that is fine and I apologize for my mistake and this thread has no purpose.
You can replace crafting with lots of gold and/or luck. Luck for ascended weapon drops, and gold for legendaries. Crafting is just the fastest way for ascended and the cheaper route for legendaries

You can still buy weapons and armors on TP, and it’s cheaper now that everyone level up their professions to craft ascended weapons.
I leveled my last character to 80, with 2 crafting professions up to 400, but I didn’t craft my stuff, I bought it on the TP.
People who say it is mandatory to learn crafting, to progress in the game, just like whining.People are talking about Ascended gear that can not be bought on the TP. It can only be crafted or found by way of rare drops in world chests and, even if you do find one, chances are it won’t be the right weapon with the right stats anyway.
As for the thread, I can see both sides of the argument. Crafting can be boring and they are basically forcing you to do it to obtain certain gear. I don’t like crafting particularly and never really do it other than some cooking stuff and now the stuff for the ascended gear. BUT, if you just follow some of the guides that tell you exactly what to do and how to do it, it shouldn’t take very long. What’s an hour or less of your time really?
To the people who complain that it takes too long: I leveled weaponsmith months ago to 400 in under 40 minutes and that was with having to buy stuff off the TP, run over and get it and sell all the left over stuff at the end. It really isn’t that bad to just follow a guide.

Go watch the stream again, the dev specifically said the buff applies to 4 maps, even going so far as to clarify the 3 borderland maps and EB. Obsidian Sanctum is a seperate map completely, if you were not aware, people in OS dont count for the map caps in EB either.

Fine, don’t consider it. Plenty of non-GvG players have posted saying they oppose this, mechanics that favor the most populated server in a match are bad for obvious reasons that have been pointed out over and over. Straight stat buffs are also the least interesting means of giving a reward for holding these new points, and lead to confrontations that would have been even before feeling like they were unfair.
Yes uneven fights are part of WvW’s appeal and a big reason why many (including me) prefer it to sPvP, but that doesn’t mean Anet should make it mechanically impossible to have an even one. What I find amusing (in a depressing way) is that most of the people posting in support of Bloodlust seem to be doing so because they want GvG to fail/be ignored.

@Shemsu, every post of yours has just been anti-GvG. Consider that a big part of why GvG has evolved is exactly because of the way WvW is functioning. People don’t enjoy PvDoor, and ppt is based almost completely on coverage and numbers. Why would you enjoy taking an undefended keep? There is no sense of accomplishment. The enjoyment of WvW comes from clashing with other players, whether in open field or in a siege. The buff discourages clashing of players period.
Your post completely misses it. GvG didnt evolve because of the way wvw is functioning, it evolved because wvw is anonymous, and thats not good enough for some players to stroke their kitten too, they want everyone to know how leet they are so they can get off.
Not only that, I never once argued for the stat buff, I could care less, its 500 health, 50 toughness, thats 1/6th of an autoattack not gonna be a game changer. The ppt on stomps i think is an amazing mechanic that could change things up alot. Like i said before, if a FAIR and EVEN fight is what people really wanted, custom arenas exist, but they cant walk around with flashy legendaries stroking themselves for being so amazing at spamming a skill rotation

Nothing about GW2 is remotely about guilds. It’s a new game that simply ripped off the original Guild Wars for lore and names, including the game’s name. Everything else is 100% departure. Don’t expect Guild content to be high on the list of developers of GUILD WARS 2, which was misnamed purely for marketing purposes.

No. That is not a possibility at this time. The point of the buff is to affect the WvW game mode as a whole disabling it on your character would lessen the value of the buff to a server and completely invalidate the whole point.
You bring up the argument that having the option to disable the buff would lessen the value of the buff to a server. You know why we want to be able to turn the buff off: to do an organised fight. While doing this organised fight we are not of any value to our server anyway, so your argument doesn’t make any sense to me.
It disappionts me how the devs are ignoring the GvG scène. I can understand you don’t want to put much work into it if you don’t like the idea. But destroying the whole concept with orbs that are not gonna add much value to our game experience anyway sounds like a big mistake.

WvW is designed to be imbalanced, it is designed to create unfair fights, and unfair advantages, see plenty of youtube videos on Engi’s and mesmers using stealth to gank, or recap towers, entire zergs abusing veil to engage an enemy group unaware. if you want fair, even fights, spvp is that way, WvW is not designed for that
You should not EVER need BiS to complete content. the one exception being high level fractals (you can still do low fractals easily without, so your not excluded) and this is how it should be, if you want gear gated content, there are plenty of MMO’s that use that, many people consider it a good thing that guild wars does not
There are plenty of games full of elitist guilds with heavy requirements to join. Feel free to play them, I dont think this game needs that. I think its good that the game encourages people of all backround and abillity to play together. We do not need more systems in place to encourage gear checks, and people being excluded from content instead of taught how to play it.

There are 2 playstyles in this game, sit behind siege all day and blob up to pvd and press 1 to get doors or small groups down. And you have the solo roamers, small group romaers and guild roamers.
This update is meant for the 2nd part of these players, and these players do not want a stat buff.

Dragonite is horrendous to attain in wvw. However it has been my experience that wvw is the best place to get empyreal fragments. Even if you can stand mindlessly running around collecting chests in queensdale, i’ve matched and exceeded the 100 per hour most get doing that whilst in wvw
Also, have you ever sat down and realized that people want GvG because your idea of PvP in this game is terrible? On another note this game is called “GUILD WARS”… What is GvG, oh that’s right it’s GUILD WARS.

Guild Halls, Guild Alliances, and GuildvGuild are three staples of the previous game, and relevant to the title lol. All three probably should’ve been enabled prior to game release.
It’s not that I dislike any of this new content necessarily at all. I personally believe it’s admirable enough that after year one you guys (the dev team) are still at it, I really do. But please please please, what does it take to get us a proper GvG arena in a WvW instance so that it can run off the already existing WvW engine (not affected by this new Borderland buff)? Is it not enough that we’re back there behind the windmill holding these event amidst the pigs and the spiders? Now we’re going to have to put up with complaints from our fellow WvW regulars for lack of contribution because we don’t spike our opponents and one-sided fights because one side is all “roided out”? GvG, and small-scale Dueling, is something that has been going on for many months now. It’s not going anywhere, We don’t want to take it to sPvP, having an instance for it in WvW is not too much to ask. Again could be implemented pretty easily with the already existing WvW engine. You guys want to make new content? These events are highly popular, and it’s a concept ripe for creativity!
Shoot, build it in an expanded corner of the already existing JP if you have to! People hardly go there anymore anyway because the chat does not reach outside the instance.
Actually, no its not relevant to the title at all. The title if you paid attention is relevant to the lore history of tyria, when magic was to strong and the ‘guilds’ of tyria were too powerful and the wars they had threatened the world. The title has nothing to do with gvg, guild halls or any of that. Also GW2 is not GW1, its just based on the same lore, if you want the style and play of gw1 better, you can still play it, feel free to go do so.
Secondly if i understand correctly, in the livestream the dev said the BB buff affects all 4 maps, which seems to indicate it does not affect obsidian sanctum. If gvgs were organized on the sanctum map, not only could they avoid the BB buff, but they wouldnt be wasting queue space for players that actually intend to play wvw

Have you met a stunfordayz mace/shield warrior? Or watched an engi captain america his shield through an enemy. Shields are very offensive also

The requirements to make an axe aren’t the same as a great sword nor are the requirements to make a shield.
At least as far as I understand it. I only have the plans for the shield and axe right now.
Axe -
6 ingots – 3 for the inscription 3 for the axe blade
5 planks – 3 for the inscription 2 for the haftshield -
5 ingots – 3 for the inscription 2 for the shield part
4 planks – 3 for the inscription 1 for the handleI thought it took 10 of each to make a great sword?
500 dragonite, bloodstone, empyreal and angur stone for vision crystal. same requirements for a 6 foot greatsword and a toothpick dagger, despite the greatsword having almost double the stats, higher base damage and double the infusion slots. In addition the dark matter requirement is also the same. As far as the other mats go, the difference is barely noticeable
Funny that you are concerned over Engineer, seeing as they have pretty much been in the same stat since launch. Care to explain why suddenly Condition Engineers are now a problem and not, oh i duno, 6 months ago? They were even stronger 6 months ago since that was before the Confusion nerf.
Rune of Perplexity. This single set of runes has made the condi engineer a beast. Dropping 15, 20, 25 stacks on multiple players in seconds from a bunker is powerful.

I am also not “worried” about engi alone… condi damage has unbalanced skirmish/solo play leaving many of us trying to find a reasonable counter. Right now it seems perplexity needs an adjustment probably an ICD. The rest may just be about adjusting to heavy condition in general.
As for Thieves, when has it ever been a problem for the perma-stealth, highest mobility, teleportspamming profession to get close and do their big burst? I also didnt say 10k+ in 1 hit, but the Cloak n Dagger + Backstab combo which can be done in a fraction of a second can easily go above 10k damage. You dont even have to be all glass for it.
Decent players on decent builds can manage thieves. Bunkers even more so. CnD/BS combo pretty much works only on scrubs. Most classes immediately dodge, move out of position, etc before in lands. Nobody in our guild really prioritizes thieves as they are rarely the most dangerous player in skirmish or solo in the game today. Usually they get target locked when they hit low health as most cannot stand around blind AoE fire or ground targeted abilities.
Conditions dont have an unbalanced skirmish/solo play… If that was true people wouldnt have been complaing about Direct-Damage burst builds in skirmish/solo play since launch.
I feel like i have to repeat myself here. Direct damage builds are a far bigger concern in roaming then condition builds. And also work in zergballing, where conditions actually dont due to excessive aoe condition removal.Not to mention these lovely Hammer Warriors that roam around in a small pack (there you got with that skirmishing) and CC the everliving kitten out of you and your allies.
Perplexity is an issue in and of itself by no means limited to just Engineers. Hammer Warriors are even worst. But even Thieves and Mesmers take generous advantage of the broken mechanic of these runes.
And the “decent builds” you are talking about that deal with direct damage sacrifice everything to deal with it. To the point of carrying zero condition removal. And then turn around that their build doesnt work against conditions.
The problem isnt conditions, the problem if anything is the burst builds. That demand such a dedication to counter them in build and gear that your build is left crippled dealing with something that takes an entirely diffirent approach.
This post sort of touches on my opinion on the subject. Now first off, I do not agree with op, toughness should not ever reduce conditions, conditions exist as a counter to toughness… With that said, I think there is a disparity between the two damage types that has not been brought up in this thread (or i missed it, sorry if so) Its been mentioned that the heavy burst builds have to sacrifice everything to achieve that damage and have nothing left to deal with condi, this is true. But what does one sacrifice to deal top tier condi damage? One single stat. That i think is the problem, if you want max direct damage, you sacrifice 3 stats, All your eq and stats goes to power/prec/critd, if you want max condi damage, all you need is condi leaving you free to build into 2 other stat lines. Because of this, I think condi damage should NEVER be as strong as direct OR if it is, then something needs to be added to make a condi user sacrifice those other 2 stat lines also

Yeah, the dragonite ore is per character on the meta boss events/temples/etc. It’s not bad with events like Maw, Golem, and Fire Ele that have a short reset cycle. The same with empyrean fragments and jumping puzzles (not sure on dungeons), but these drop in lesser amounts from what I’ve seen.
WvW seems to lack daily limits at all on at least the empyrean fragments although the amount dropped in wvw per capture is still low, as with JPs. I assume this is true for dragonite as well, but I’ve not done much wvw since the update. Dragonite also drops in small amounts from what I’ve seen.
The empyrean fragments are really the limiting factor here. I know a lot of people do the meta boss events, but going out of our way for jump puzzles isn’t as common. I like JPs, but I don’t want do those anywhere near as often as I do combat oriented events. Unfortunately, you have to do more JPs than events to keep your empyrean drops up with the amount of dragonite.
Thanks for confirming. The best way to get Empyreal Fragment is actually by Dungeons and fractals so that would be good information to find out. Interesting that there is no daily limit on WvW veterans and Towers. But they do have a time gate. It is just not as obvious. Best case scenario if they only dropped one or two you can get it once every about 12 minutes. However in all likelihood it is closer to one half hour to a hour if you are farming them.(Hard to do in WvW) Putting them in line with the 20 from dungeons.
Mileage will certainly vary, but I just spent an hour in wvw, running camps/towers with a few keeps, earned 98 Empyreal fragments and like 25 champ bags, so alot of dust too. Dragonite was only like 15 though

p/d & s/d, 5/0/30/15/20, adventure runes, withdraw, roll for ini, shadow step, blinding powder and nobody catches you. Ever. You can literally surf through enemy zergs without even stealthing. Buffing this would be ridiculous, but my thief of course welcomes such change.

Since when are we forced to craft ascended weapons? Every source that drops ascended mats, also drops ascended weapons. and since ascended mats are aquired in every part of the game wvw camps/tower/keeps/sm/jps. pve champs/jps/world events/temples/dragons/dungeons/mini dungeons. You can get ascended weapons with almost no effort absolutely anywhere. No need to cry so much

We need a ‘Shift+Right Click’ that will bring up a confirmation box that will let us enter a number from 1-250.
This should be available for use at vendors, for splitting stacks in your own inventory and for using consumable items like karma jugs and essences of luck.
There is already a way to bring up a box for splitting stacks in your inventory……
Also, bind your mousewheel to left click, scroll to win, easy peasy

Why do you endure playing a class to 80 you hate?
The Karma nerf – no idea what to make of it: Is the impact really that high? As far as I remember, the huge amounts that came with karma consumables wasn´t in the game for a good while after launch.
Laurels – why do you assume they are gone for monthly as you cleary have read about the probable cause?
No I’m not saying I don’t enjoy playing a certain class, I just enjoyed being able to take a break from leveling in the world to level via crafts. I don’t understand why the nerf was needed.
Karma – Maybe it was never intended for people to have that much Karma, if that’s the case I understand, but the Karma flow has been at it’s pre-patch rate for about 80% of the release, so I doubt it could be something they didn’t expect.
Like I said with Laurels, it’s probably unintentional, I was just looking for answers – or if anyone can confirm it’s just a double-monthly bug.
I dont know where your getting the laurels thing from, Everyone i know that completed the monthly got laurels, the only people that didnt are people that completed it twice and they still got laurels the first time, just like its always been (if you complete pve and pvp monthly you only get laurels once) this is not new, this is not a change. Yeah, but like I said, even without the farming (and I was only saving for four or five days) I got a stack in a single day of playing (part of which was wasted trudging through fotm 58 only to find out that maw is still impossible). Even if I only play that much twice a week, that’s eight stacks in a month; it’s still going to very quickly outpace my need.

What he means is that there is no reason to make it even EASIER for a character to hit lvl 80 without doing anything but the tutorial
Crafting to 80 in this economy is a terrible idea.
Perhaps, but that doesnt affect the ease of craft leveling for the last year, or the fact that the economy will stabilize and make it simple and easy again. Its a couple less skillpoints if you level all the way up, which is made up for by scrolls from champ loot and the free lvl 20 scrolls everyone can get
That inscription will be part of the recipe to make an ascended inscription, NOT an exotic pistol.
