I disagree that critical strikes is out damaged by deadly arts in a team setting. I’m not sure about a 1v1 setting because I haven’t paid enough attention to it, but the difference is clearly noticeable in 2v2 or greater fights that the high crit chance, quickness, and executioner deals more damage. I especially disagree when your fights involve someone who can might stack.

Well aheum , it stills working anyway , and pretty good.

You used to be able to get a 3 second daze from tac strike, and that was when revealed was 3 seconds in pvp. You can no longer maintain the long term daze, and revealed time is longer now, not to mention more expensive fs/ls, 33% reduction to cnd damage, 50% damage reduction to dagger 4, the removal of stunbreak and instant cast on sword 2.

S/d daze build was popular for awhile after launch, then it got nerfed through the sigil/runes not stacking duration and changing how the increase used to always scale up to the next whole second. Sorry to say this build died 2 years ago

Doesnt MF actually affect those new bags (I’m not saying about any other bag in the game,just the new ones)

Because I had a buff that said something like “+30% Magic find (while opening bags)” or something like that.

Maybe these new bags works the same way PvP bags do (they are affected by MF)

Read the buff again, it does NOT affect bags, it works on the buried chests in that map, champ bags are not affected by MF

The drop mechanics for loot in this area really decreases my desire to play the newest level 80 zone for the long term. Especially if I wanted to make a Legendary. Shouldn’t the newest zone promote all types of players to want to play it? It really feels like a WvW training wheels zone over a zone that is the new hotness for drops. Also, why in the heck aren’t the bandit crests going in my wallet? You know, the wallet they made for currencies?

I was beginning to think I was the only one! Yes! So much this, I’ve played for hours in the new area and felt less rewarded than half that time in WvW or PvP. On the flipside, the meta event and map mechanics are wonderfully executed and fun to play (hence why I played for so long with virtually no reward, kill 50 mordrem solo get 2 crests and 2 silky sand. No thanks i’ll pass) The decision to remove loot drops from mobs was terrible, not just because it takes away the value of mf.

I do have to agree, as usual, the armor does not seem to work for charr. However in general I’d have to say the medium armor looks terrible and i’m very disappointed, really wish i could wear the light armor version on my medium characters.. (male version)

I’m missing something here, I completed the living story on 3 characters, and on all 3 i particpated in the event which failed, then i was still able to complete the LS objective anyway once the event failed. Did i miss a patch note where they changed this?

You don’t understand my post I guess. The point was that the current situation is extremely similar to the complaints about 100blades and Backstab. And the L2P posts. And the nerfs that happened anyway.

I understand perfectly well.

It doesn’t change my stance on this. Endless QQing is for crybabies that can’t adept.

I think the point is that all of a sudden everyone else has to adapt, did rangers adapt to dancing dagger or cry endlessly until anet gave it a 50% damage nerf? Did people adapt to the cloak and dagger->steal->backstab or did they cry until anet gave cnd a 33% damage nerf and make steal unable to crit? Did people adapt to black powder or cry until it got nerfed? same goes for every sword and shortbow skill.

Now its time for them to feel the nerf hammer, how about a 50% damage hit, or unable to crit?

Reddit is generally more positive, and while the forum tends to be negative almost all day every day, reddit is not. That’s because reddit is generally fan moderated and if someone posts something completely ridiculous or overstated it gets downvoted by fans until it disappears.

Reddit does get angry sometimes, and does pop it’s cork, but not nearly as often as the forums and not for nearly as long.

Again, because it’s fan moderated. Moderators have to let negative stuff stand or they get accused of bias. They get accused of that anyway, but it’s silly considering how many negative threads and comments there are.

But like I said, you’re 100% free to believe anything you want.

I personally think that the reason why they’re not buffing thieves is that everyone is just crying all the time about how they’re OP , which they’re not. But who cares, I’m still gonna rip them all a new one regardless of the changes. xD

Thieves aren’t OP as a whole, but Black Powder and S/D builds are. I have a thief toon and it’s kitten easy to get away from any situation with the BP + HS combo. This unlimited “Get Out Of Jail Free” card needs to be removed. Thieves have way too much leeway in those builds when it comes to getting unlimited resets. It’s not balanced whatsoever. Committing a mistake usually results in death on other classes, I’m glad you guys will finally feel that pain.

So, your extensive experience on your ‘thief toon’ tell you that s/d builds should be nerfed because black powder/heartseeker combo is strong? I guess we all know now how much experience you really have with the class.

Celestial is not a basic stat set. The fact that its available in spvp is not relevant. Zerker amulet in spvp has vitality on it, does that mean all zerker armor in wvw/pve should have vit as well? celestial has a greater stat total than other other, that makes it unique, as such the process of creating it is also different. If they bring celestial down to a common stat type by making in able to trade, then the stats need to be reduced as such

(ranger dagger 5 is 1200, thief pistol/shortbow 900 max, also note thief dagger throw is only 900 also)

That’s after traits, by default it’s only 900 range. Maybe you flimsy thieves should start working out so you can throw little dagger farther.

What ranger trait increases the range of dagger? My ranger only has one that affects longbow/harpoon gun…..

I don’t like working with them at all.

Honestly, it’s just an awkward way of trying to involve the Player Character (PC) in the story while at the same time allowing the story to be all about the biconics. We don’t have any actual agency (as the title of boss would suggest) and all of our actions and observations are scripted (the scene where “you” notice the stab wounds in the victims – no player actually noticed that, but all our characters said it).

They still want to make the biconics important characters and credit them with things that happen in the story, but doing that in the past meant crediting the biconics with the actions and achievements of the player (this was an issue with Kiel, but it also happened with biconics, fortunately for them the writers started writing things a little differently by the time the biconics became more involved). As their “leader” the assumption is they will always be around, everything we do we do with them now (unenthusiastic “yay”) and anything accomplished (even if it’s done by them, replacing our role in the game’s story) can be credited to us, their “leader”.

Other things that conflict with it come in the form of shrugging off our identities before the biconics even existed. Someone in the new release gives token recognition to our status as a member of the Pact. Our PCs are forced to deliver the line of dialogue “I haven’t been very active lately” or something like that. Even though we took out an Elder Dragon and there is an active conflict with Jormag and Kralkatorrik occuring in Tyria as we know it, we’ve been forced to say we choose to hang out with the biconics instead of act in the superior capacity as a member of the Pact (or even one of the Orders).

At the end of the day the big picture remains the same. The biconics still take the spotlight, we don’t have choices of any kind, our unique histories are nothing but stray mentions and events play out as they would if the PC wasn’t even mentioned by anyone. All that’s changed is a little bit of semantics. We are playing a singular story on train tracks with token recognition that dismisses our past with nothing more than token mentions. It might sound harsh, but play Skyrim or The Walking Dead and see a better (but not perfect) way of giving meaning to our choices and recognition to our identity. Both games still have important NPCs but neither feels like the player has no agency and it always feels like your story, not everyone else’s and you’re just a witness.

I’ll start by saying you are not absolutely NOT a special snowflake, you don’t have a unique history, thousands of players made the same choices you did, wear the same armor you do, probably even with the same colors, you are NOT special. As far as you being mad about being called ‘boss’ go replay the personal story and you can be an underling again, a vast quantity of players posted complaints about not being the leader of the pact, Anet listened. Now your complaining that they did what players wanted, not to mention it makes perfect sense story wise

Yes, I would imagine the cynics do, and yes players massively over hyped this, look at the threads claiming 2-5 zones. Your “cynics” claimed not even one map, and they were right, we got less than half a map. While the sandstorm mechanic is nice, and the small part of the map we can explore is gorgeous, personally I think the aspect crystals are way overused, talk to any players that connect from long distances (ie aus to na servers) or anyone with lag and you’ll find the crystals entirely ruin the whole experience

Duels in and of themselves are not bad, but open world dueling, even with auto-decline, is visual clutter this game does not need. What they should do is have some place to confine the players to who want to duel, maybe some sort of arena perhaps, could even make it custom, like a custom arena maybe?

Well conversely, the thieves and PU mesmers can change their build then to counter a Rangers “guard” build then. Nobody is forcing thieves or Mesmers to spam stealth till the cows come home, find a different way to play, remember it’s counter play, not whining 101 about god mode.

Or rangers could change their build now to already counter thieves and pu mesmers, without needing ANOTHER revealed button handout from anet, remember its counter play not whining 101 about stealth

Thieves are not an issue, stealth is not an issue, the issue is people wanting an easy button. You people don’t complain about me stacking my boons through my own combo fields while I damage you and become more of a threat as the fight progresses. The simple solution is to just prevent what is causing the issues from happening and as the old saying goes. “The simplest solution is the best solution”.

What do you mean? Corruption necro counter boon ele better than any other professions the same way good Turret/Rifle Engi counter stealth with CC. Certain professions and builds will do better or worse in some situations what’s wrong with that? Are you supposed to handle perfectly everything with any build on any class?

It’s a hardcounter, what you were describing with stealth were soft counters. Soft counters =/= hardcounters

Your right soft counter =/= hard counter but it is still a counter which by your own admission then stealth has viable counters. If they were to add hard counters, would need to remove soft counters and buff non stealth ALOT to balance. However, none of that needs to be done, since stealth has counters

Yeah, thieves are only OP at solo roaming in 1v1 situation. One small role (generally a useless one that contributes little to nothing to the server) in one aspect of the game.

Oh baby, have I got a video for you. 2 thieves can completely wreck a group of 8-12 enemies if working together. Here’s the video btw (love you [BÆR]!).

1 or 2 of any class can beat a dozen training dummies (pretty sure training dummies put up more of a fight than that group did though) Don’t see how that proves anything though

Currently 1v1 an acro trickery thief played at Sizer’s level will beat my GS sceptre guard.

No other weapon sets gives guard viable cleave and the ability to 1v1 warriors and Eles, even when assuming godlike team fight positioning when running sword mh. So this thief build effectively ‘breaks’ the meta for guards.

As for people trying to play any other zerker classes, I feel for you. You don’t have a hope.

Basically I have to reroll this thief build until they tone it down.

To be perfectly honest, blocks SHOULD pull a thief out of stealth if their attack is blocked. Though I also believe that a suggestion somebody made a while back should come into play…you get ONE chance for your stealth attack during a stealth. If it fails, it turns back into the auto-attack. Meaning if you backstab and the opponent dodges it, you’ve lost your backstab for that stealth duration. You’ll have it back when you stealth again though. It makes it far more different for thieves because there’s a chance of failure now for that burst attack, and also encourages playing smart instead of “lolstealthbackstabspam”.

So blocks should reveal a thief? Not a bad idea actually, so long as dodging a warriors attack gets their weapon stuck in the ground, immobilizing them for 4 seconds, blocking a necro causes them to lose life force, blocking an engi’s grenade causes it to bounce back on them etc etc

It’s not necessarily the same as C&D, backstab depends on being in stealth when you (land the) hit, C&D doesn’t. I’d expect that precasting #1 (backstab) into Mug should result in Mug revealing you and #1 just hitting as a Double Strike. But if it lands as backstab when precasting, that’d be neat, and even neater with Revealed Training, +200 power should be 8-10% extra damage.

Your mistaken, backstab doesnt require you to be in stealth when you hit, it requires you to be in stealth to start the attack. Very different. Start backstab while in stealth, use steal/mug. backstab still lands. People have been doing this since beta same as with cnd….

Let me explain you some basic stealth mechanics. If you do direct damage to someone while you are in stealth – you get revealed. That’s exactly what you are describing here.

I don’t know where your expectation is derived from, but mine comes from Heartseeker and Smoke fields.

IF you hit someone with heartseeker WHILE in stealth you will be revealed

If you use heartseeker while in a smoke field and hit an enemy, you will gain stealth.

If you use cluster bomb in a smoke field and hit an enemy, you will gain stealth, but immediately become revealed.

If you use heartseeker in a smokefield while ALREADY stealthed, you will be revealed

Its been talked about before. Generally what I hear from people (who I trust to not say unreasonable crap like, “THIEVES ARE BAD NEED BUFFS, MUST DO 50K BACKSTABS”) is that while thieves aren’t affected by chill in their weapon skill CDs, they are much more strongly affected by the lack of mobility, because they are so heavily based on mobility. With that massive reduction in mobility hurting them even more than others I’ve heard good arguments that it fairly covers the loss of CDR on their weapon skills.

It is certainly debatable, but I think I tend to agree that it is fair it doesn’t affect them.

Its totally not like they are immune to mobility reduction skills because of 4 dodges, most of their skills having evade frames which ignore movement speed factors and have a teleport on every weapon set except double pistol.

They either need to dramatically adjust the initiative regen of the class or they need to overhaul the whole stealth system to resemble WoW. Best of luck to either scenario happening.

Go back to WoW….. That game had the worst stealthing in any game. Stealth = 100% uptime on Invisibility. The reason why GW2 has this stupid stealth system is because they tried to copy the archetype that rogues had. Rogues were incredibly hard for blizzard to balance because of it. Often as a result they were left being OP because the only other option was to nerf the whole class into obilivion.

Currently, thieves are no different, they will either be OP (in the hands of someone that knows how to use them) or they will be nigh on useless. The middle ground for these types of classes is very hard to hit.

Stealth should be useless after the opener. Once you know someone is there, they are there. A possibly cool mechanic might be to link blindness with stealth… but we could just end up back here if its not done properly.

Stealth that can be contiously re-entered into, getting out of combat, and having to fight without a target is what breaks stealth in GW2.

The whole system needs an overhaul (already). I just hope they are onto it now and not waiting for “sometime in the future.”

As for the whole system getting a rework (what your asking for is actually a full class redesign) 3 of 5 new traits for thief gm are stealth based, seems like anet is fine with the current mechanics, i would guess they are not working on a full redesign now OR in the future. my suggestion for you, since you hate long and short stealth, is go find a game without it, or try to play high level pvp as a stealth thief or join a wvw large group as a stealth thief your just a free loot bag

Think about offensive uses for shadow refuge (dark field) and consider AoE weakness from blasting your poison fields as a form of “soft cc”.

Thieves are about “doing more with less”.

as of the recent poison field nerf, thieves CANT blast their own poison field at range, cb is too slow and the field doesnt last long enough, so forget about the aoe weakness since the trait was also nerfed

You could pick up +2 ini on stealth from 4 in SA, which serves to cheapen cloak and dagger cost.

Also, with sword 2, you don’t need infil sig much (unless you’re taking it as a concept to your build). Roll for Ini would give you a stun break as well, and I find having a “battery” of 6 ini is more valuable to me than 1 ini per 10 secs.

rfi is 1 per 10 secs also, it comes down to do you want the extra evade or the extra shadowstep. they both provide the same increase to ini (assuming you use rfi on cooldown, if you dont then rfi can be LESS than 1 per 10s)

Sneak Attack hits like a truck, well a thieves truck anyway, when both Power and Condition Damage are specced, the combined damage is similar to that of backstab.

Anyone tried runes of mesmer paired with new Sigil of Paralyzation. Would this give some crazy daze durations from Tactical Strike and daze from Sleight of Hand? (and Mace Head Crack for that matter).

It used to.. then they changed it so the runes and sigil didnt combine, then awhile after that it suddenly stopped working. I’ve not heard of a fix for either

They should have reduced all (exploitably) bugged chests to zero and then added negative bonus chests for all already opened bugged bonus chests.

Why do i have 0 chests with rank 300 and some guildies with 320 have 250? is it because they created new chars before the patch ?

They had more ranks before the chests were implemented. When wxp came out there were no chests

The difference is a buff is a potential increase in effectiveness. A nerf to another class simply means their effectiveness against others or for their own preservation may be decreased; your effectiveness remains unchanged.

So not true. Your effectiveness is relative to your target.

Why else would you try to weaken their defenses or hinder their offense if not to improve your effectiveness?

A buff may also be true in all scenarios. i.e A buff to thief is a buff to thief vs warrior, and a buff to thief vs elementalist. A nerf to a warrior is not a buff for a thief vs elementalist.

A buff on a Thief is not necessarily a buff across the board or against every other profession.

Example; Thief gets +200 damage per attack, but Warrior gets -200 Damage for each incoming damage. Did you receive a buff against Warrior then?

No but you did against the other 7 classes

The point of this is, Assassin was not renamed to Thief, Thief replaced them and used them as a scapegoat, To Justify Their Over Powerfulness

Apparently you never played the original game, shadowsteps come from assassins, and they had way more teleports than thieves do. in addition to being extremely powerful at certain times, i’d drop stealth any day for the defenses, shadow form for instance. Your ignorance burnfall is legendary

There are counters to stealth. They include no cool down high radius aoes, mind reading and 1000m leaps with no cool downs!

Thieves don’t have the lowest health pool. Sorry that is simply false. Bow shots don’t reveal thieves, lol.

Pay attention. thieves/ele/guards have the bottom tier health pool, that is simply a fact, nobody said bow shots reveal, but many of them do track and deal damage to a thief even when they stealth. rangers have a utility that puts reveal on an enemy as well.

Essentially you’re throwing out platitudes and hoping everyone buys it. I don’t.

There is no counter to stealth, it’s the best damage mitigator in the game and only two classes have access to it (with one having crazy amounts of access to it). Ridiculous.

How about this? Give Rangers who trait hard the ability to one shot thieves. If they don’t dodge it – too bad, so sad. Knowledge.

The problem here is the ANet team doesn’t know how to calculate just how much mitigation stealth provides – it’s clear that the amount is large though.

You say the problem is stealth, your post proves the problem is not stealth, but rather ignorance like yours, 2 classes have access to stealth? You should really learn about what your talking about before you open your useless mouth, half the classes in the game have stealth (you forgot ranger and engi) as far as having the abillity to one shot thieves, every class can do that since thieves have NO damage mitigation yet, after upcoming patch they will if they give up the strongest healing trait they have, on top of the lowest health pool. In regards to the ranger comment, not only can rangers track their bow shots THROUGH stealth, they can also reveal thieves.

Please, before posting read a little, your far to ignorant of the actual mechanics to post on this topic

You pretty much nailed the problem. without shadow arts condi removal and sometimes healing, we cannot hold up well. I’ve played sword builds s/d and s/p since beta and sword has been nerfed into the ground at this point, yes you can still play it, but against competent players you will not do as well as a stealth based thief, and of course come the next patch we get more and more stealth traits with no defense out of stealth, so just give up and play a stealth build, anet isnt leaving us much choice

Easy fix, have Revealed Status on any stealth skill after the stealth goes away, for any reason.
Got out of stealth before timer ended: Revealed, Let timer run out: Revealed. No more silly “stealth spam get out of harms way free card”.

This has been suggested more times than you can count, and unless the class is given more defense out of stealth it will never happen, so dont hold your breath. Look at the coming changes, in the NON stealth line acrobatics, they are adding a STEALTH based gm trait, another stealth based trait in deadly arts and a stealth trait in shadow arts, 3 of 5 new traits are stealth based. keep dreaming

Depends entirely on the method of cloaking, if its a d/d thief using cloak and dagger attack it is VERY telegraphed, press your dodge key, bam one key counter that every class has.
If its a d/p thief interrupt the bp/hs combo, same goes for a thief blasting a smoke field, though this is less common during combat.
If its a thief using shadow refuge, pull/push them out of the field and they lose stealth and gain revealed.
If its a thief using blinding powder, its 3 seconds, press your sidestep and forward keys, moving your character, maybe even mix in a dodge if it can benefit you (as in mesmer clone on dodge etc)

This is the definition of l2p, considering there are 10,000 other pointless threads like this, i hope you delete your post and this thread gets removed to not waste more space
