How does that work for dungeons like CoF, that can be blocked. What if their server has the dungeon unlocked, and my server does not?

I don’t know, but you do have the option of guesting to their server if it does not give you the auto port in option by arriving in the zone (once they’re already in the dungeon).

The reason the feature was in the game in the first place was to make dungeons a viable option for people who weren’t elite players.

That’s an interesting theory, but that doesn’t hold up to dev statements as the intent of explorable mode dungeons being difficult.

I think the real problem is letting the game go for so long with the res zerg option in place. People obviously are too used to a feature that should never have been in the game in the first place.

With that flight of fancy out of the way, here’s a less obscure explanation:
Bollocks is a typically British slang and swear term for male genitalia.
And Pistrix, while it’s juvenile, I thought would have been obvious. It’s toilet humour, and alluding to rather fetishistic behaviour.

Interesting, you see when I googled Pistrix I got completely different results than you…and it fit better too.

Sounds like the problem is more with the ‘4 warrior 1 mesmer’ group than the path of the dungeon. Just because something is faceroll with one combination of classes doesn’t mean it is for all.

Can probably find something similar-ish for the chest/legs. I’m not sure on your smaller frame they’d be all that noticeable anyway (the shoulders being the most obvious part of armor)

When I pull between 3-10 mobs I usually do Fire – 3, 2, 5, 4. Armour of earth. Earth – 4, 5, 2. By that time they are normally all dead or dying. If I took damage I just go into water to heal up and go back to fire to start again.

Yea that’s similar to how I do it though I usually hit earth 3 for the fire shield before moving to 5 or 2 after the swap.

Perhaps that’s because you weren’t killed but rather fell off an edge and killed yourself…

Maybe, but that’s only the most recent example I can think of. I’m fairly sure I’ve died before and never had problems looting after. I can’t imagine that is their design philosophy (absolutely perfect play).

Not getting loot because you were dead when the boss was killed is a bug.

Or if it isn’t, it doesn’t always apply – I died on the bridge fight of COF1 last night (stupidly fell off) and came back to loot him after the rest of the group killed him.

Whats wrong with it is warrior, guardian, and thief cant do them all at the same time..

if you cant see that then you are just being bias

If that were all true then we’d see a lot of 5 man ele groups doing dungeons instead of the 5 man warrior/guardian groups…

Judging by how proud you stated the above I’ve come to the conclusion that having more than one 80 is the true measure of skill and experience now, ok. I think we will all see something like “lf2m ,+5 80’s only.” very soon.

Proud? Not particularly, more giving you an idea of how long I’ve been playing is all.

You have no idea how skilled or not I am at the game, and there isn’t a thing I can say here that would change that. Just as achievement points don’t mean anything either with regards to player competency.

Yes yes, same old song I’ve heard everywhere, “achievement points dont mean a thing”, “rank does not matter”, “I saw r5 better than most r40” and bla bla etc…
Yet somehow all low ranked/players with low achievement points are let’s just say not the ones I’d like to have in my party.

Having under 2k achievement points myself (yet having 3 80s) I’d have to say with that attitude I wouldn’t want to be in your party anyway.

Well to be honest I think Zhaitan should have been a world event consisting of tons of players, but since they decided to make it a personal story thing I don’t really have a problem with them requiring just 5 people. I mean…this is an elder dragon.

I really wish they weren’t doing updates during prime time EST. Very frustrating last night when we got to a certain point in a dungeon and someone had to reboot, only to be forced to patch and then couldn’t rejoin – so we all patched and the instance reset.

Which sucks hugely and is a nasty surprise for those who didn’t realise GW2 was a ‘forced grouping’ game at the point it matters.

If you’re so opposed to playing with others, why are you playing this game? It’s never been advertised as a single player game.

We did it with 2 eles, 2 thieves and a necro. It was pretty easy. No need to kite, just kill the assasins quickly, stealth mag (not sure if that actually works) and use lots of AoE. Cripple and immobilise skills are useful for the assassins. If everyone tweaks their traits to help buff and heal each other this also helps a lot.

Ive not had the problems others seem to be having. I find this part of the dungeon very enjoyable. Much more than the 1 2 2 suicide kite cheat I mean tactic hehe

Glad to read groups that don’t have warriors/guardians are clearing this.

Now I just need to get mine to :P

If you sit in one attune all day and spec yourself only towards that attune you will perform very badly and be one of ‘those elementalists’ that everyone doesn’t want in their groups.

If you learn how to attune dance and drop combos/boons you can be an incredible asset to the group in both a support and damage role (at the same time, even).

This is what people mean by the ‘skill cap’ to an elementalist. If you play an elementalist like you do a guardian you’re going to fail pretty bad. It’s just a lot more effort to get good results out of (relatively – I’m not saying it’s tremendously difficult to play).

Definitely not a water pro but I’ve found some success using Fire #2 in conjunction with Water #3 for might, then water #2 and #5 for very high damage attacks. It seems like Lightning #1 has the highest auto damage if you can land all 3. I haven’t seen much from earth though.

I’m having a hard time reading what you’re trying to say.

Regardless, it absolutely is a problem with having an LFG tool. It takes away the incentive for people to congregate anywhere in order to group up. Personally, I’d like to see the LFG tool work AT the dungeon, so that people congregate outside of wherever they want to run in order to LFG.

I’m sure people will disagree with that idea but I’m just focusing on keeping the community aspect intact.

That’s not really what the issue with WOW is. Their problem is everything is cross server in a game that isn’t meant to be played cross server (different from GW2) so people just don’t give a crap about anyone in their group, they just faceroll the content to get the reward and move on.

Whether or not that would happen in GW2 I don’t know, but I’m pretty sure ANet has already said they won’t be developing a tool that automatically finds a group and drops you in a dungeon, so this theorizing is kinda pointless.

Not to mention, there isn’t anything else to do in that other game but wait for your instance/raid so of course people would just wait around in a capital city til they happened. That game is completely different from GW2. Giving us the ability to look for people to party up with outside of either the dungeon itself or Lion’s Arch would actually be a wonderful thing, as it would encourage us to still get out there and do events and whatever while waiting for our groups to form.

I’ve always known it as Zombie Rushing.

Yea in SWG PVP it was common to ‘clone zerg’ in cities too, which was also met with disdain by most :P

Should I Play an Elementalist?

It’s a very exciting class to play once you get over the attune switching part (which for me at least was a big stumbling block – I did the first 40 levels in fire attune only which was ridiculously stupid of me, and made it VERY difficult to play).

I’d definitely recommend the d/d setup as that’s what I eventually switched to, and now I’ve got it down that I know exactly what # key does in each attune so I can (and do) switch constantly (keeping those boons up) making combos and such.

I think in the end that’s the important part – learning what each key does in each attune and then making them all work together so you’re flowing from one attune to the other constantly. That’s the true strength of the class – the amount of abilities available to us.

Still no lfg system in the works?

They just need to make what gw2lfg.com does innate in the client. You should be able to post ads for and accept invites from anyone on any server, not just whoever’s hanging around your instance of Lion’s Arch.

Got to 99% last night before Magg got killed by assassins. Every following try we did worse til we finally gave up.

Course it was our first time in there and most of us are in greens/yellows and I have no idea how people’s builds were (I was running d/d bunker ele). It was a fun fight, really challenging for us, just didn’t have the focus I guess to pull it off.

Honestly if it was as simple as AEing everything down (like the post above me shows in the old version of it) we’d have beat it, but the assassins stealth til they’re almost on him and it’s easy for people to miss them (and they require focusing down). Not to mention it only takes two stabs to kill Magg.

Ele have several drawbacks in PvE….

Guardians have severals advantages they don t have in PvP.

Well you’re certainly welcome to believe what you want is the cause.

Having both an 80 ele and 80 guardian I believe the guardian is far easier to play well, so that’s why they’re more popular (and better played) than the average elementalist. This is why groups want them – bad experiences with bad elementalists.

Elementalists are an extremely powerful class in the right hands, though.

elementalists have a higher skill cap to be good at than guardians, so you’ll have to work harder to be good in a group with them

Levelling in this game is pretty simplistic, since you get xp for just about everything. So get out there and explore, do events, craft some, etc.

If you want to get better specifically in combat, those guides can help with that. But none of them are going to hold your hand and tell you exactly how to level – that’s up to you.

I took staff til about mid 40s and didn’t do much attune swapping with just a high fire build and using fire. I eventually burned out of the class because I wasn’t playing it as it was meant to be played.

I came back a week or two ago and read daphoenix’s D/D guide and specced accordingly and just blasted through the rest of the levels. I’m having tons of fun hopping around attunes and using the various abilities/combos available. Highly recommend this playstyle, once you get used to it it’s extremely powerful.

Disagree on that, grenades are clearly the strongest underwater damage dealer in the game. By a significant margin, actually.

Is this a serious issue in need of a fix? No. But is it something I expect will be eventually looked at? Yea, I’m preparing for it.

This is a flawed mentality.

It is as if all of the sudden the greatsword, knife, sword torch, axes, traps, and pets designed for close range combat do not exist.

The whole “rangers get the range” argument falls to the wayside the second you look at the plethora of options the have for close quarters combat

I never said that long range is ALL the rangers can do, just that that is a speciality of theirs (via the longbow primarily). It is not one of our’s.

Being ground targetted with a travel time, I put grenades in a different class altogether.

Considering to ‘fix’ this it would take a new UI element not in place, I can understand why it’s not in. I don’t consider this an ‘oversight’ so much as a ‘design decision’.

That being said, the option of having the backpack simply not show would be a decent addition (and in fact it already bugs out to not be visible now and then randomly in game).

Then explain why are the most classes almsot mirrored when using not main weapons?
Thief bow,Warrior bow, ranger bow. THey are almost the same. Wont matter if they apply condition…in the end they do the same. No real mechanic behind them like Mesmers illusions….all you do is shoot.
I dont call it bad design, i call it : it needs no design, they are “just so they can use” but wont be anything special. A sniper rifle would be if wanted to be (in my design) Slow loading skills with high dmg on longer range. Besides…..did i specify the skills or how they work? No then dont ASSUME for kitten sake.

The use of bows accross professions is very different, in fact. Unless you’re just saying because a bow shoots arrows they’re all the same…how is that different from a sniper rifle shooting bullets? Oh right, so it takes longer to load…so it has a longer cast time? That’s a huge innovation here?

You’re free to post your feedback, nobody is saying you can’t post (ok apparently some people are, but they’re wrong). But expect disagreement when you post something fundamentally different from how a class is designed.

You get a very small duration burn as the last part of the #1 attack, and you can put down a flame wall on a fairly long (considering the other attacks) cooldown. The only other burn is your toolbelt one.

Compare that to the #1 and #2 attacks that (aside from mentioned above) are pure direct damage and impacted by power/precision.

Speccing condition for flamethrower seems folly to me as the vast majority of flamethrower damage is direct, not condition.

I could actually see this if they had it require a cast time to set up a tripod and root you to the spot – like the other sniper rifles already in the game.

Even then though the theme isn’t very engineer-ish. Thief would make more sense as they’re more akin to assassins.
