Unattainable ingame armour sets

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Shimond.2478

NPCs should have unique armor sets. It makes it more immersive. Could you imagine if everyone could acquire the same armor as the major NPCs in this game? It would look ridiculous.

You might have a point if there was any consistency to what is and is not allowed.

Anise’s armor is not allowed but Logan’s is?

Since we already CAN acquire the same armor as some major NPCs they might as well make it for all.

So you want a class to be nerfed into the ground just because you don’t enjoy playing it in its competitive state.
Makes perfect sense.
“Ruin the game for everybody else because i’m not having fun please”.

What about the ones who enjoy the class for what it is?

I think you should reread…..hes saying he wishes everyone didnt think warriors OP so he could play warr and not get yelled at for playing an OP class

No he said pretty much exactly that:

“I was ‘hoping’ that Anet would seriously nerf the warrior last patch – not because it was needed in my opinion – but so that I could play my warrior without being degraded constantly.”

See if she (or you) could play the character for the first 30 or so levels since they tend to go fairly fast then craft the rest. You should be able to afford to max 4 trade skills with the amount you have (plus what you earn on the way).

Copying WoW worked fabulously for SWtOR and TERA. Look! They went FTP so even more people can enjoy them. /sarcasm

Why must all games be the same? Companies that try to copy the standard stuff are criticized for not being innovative and for leaving out (insert feature x, which many people cannot do without). Companies that try something new are criticized for not including all of the old standbys and for not being innovative enough. The gaming customer base is broad and diverse enough that no game is going to get “it” right for everyone.

I’m not going to tell people who want the features in the OP to go elsewhere, but I am going to ask, "Given the pre-launch publicity of GW2, why did you buy it if you wanted all those features?

Yea you can’t really blame the developers when they’ve been pretty honest on what the game is supposed to deliver (exception being the recent ascended/daily gear grind stuff). I think the biggest problem is the culture of hype that happens before a new MMO comes out, and in this case it wasn’t the developers feeding it – it was the players. GW2 was being proclaimed as the game to end all games by so many people that when it didn’t (and couldn’t) do that, well you get kitten off people posting on forums for a game they haven’t played in months (and likely never will again).

But the most important part of the leveling process is learning to play.

On the contrary, you don’t REALLY know how to play until you’re 80 and have tried various builds with full traits. Few builds that work great levelling stand up at all in Orr. Levelling doesn’t teach you nearly as much as you’d like to think.

Technically Pink > Purple in stats (since legendaries use exotic stats, not ascended – another bizarre design choice). Here’s hoping by the time they get around to real ascended weapons (or design legendary armor) they buff legendaries accordingly.

Yea I definitely notice over a long period of play benefits. But you’re not going to be happy dropping a ton of cash/resources on the gear and comparing individual mob kills. You won’t notice a difference there. And of course – ONLY works on mob drops, not chests (so almost completely useless if all you do is rotate dragon timer camps).

I typically only wear my set out when going for zone completions (considering the amount of kills I have for each heart, etc).

Its not awesome. The fact that most everyone does this nowdays just shows how bad and boring pve is to level up. I much preferred leveling up in GW1, it was quick (can be slow if you wanted it) and fun going through those missions in co-op

I don’t know anyone personally that’s done it. Some might skip 10 levels or so by doing a crafting mastery (I do that typically 70-80 just cause I get impatient) but it’s a pretty significant investment to level all 8 professions on one character.

In fact I have 4 80s myself and haven’t done much craft levelling at all (just what I said above). I really enjoy the levelling in this game, moreso than the ‘endgame’

It’s way more expensive and of course ends you up with no karma or waypoints open but it IS nice that it’s an option for people that want that. Though, yea, it looks like you overpaid pretty substantially. Definitely recommend doing purchase orders and not instant buys for stuff like that (honestly, in general it’s better).

Keep in mind what people forget with Magic Find is it only improves the base chance of better stuff dropping. 300% magic find only means you have 4x whatever that base chance is (so if it’s 1% now it’s 4% – still tiny).

Some people actually think 20% magic find means a 1/5 chance of something (or something better) dropping.

The enigma of development decisions

With no monthly fee they’re under no obligation to create content that keeps people logging in day after day (as that doesn’t grant them any more profit than the guy logging in once a month) yet it does appear a lot of the content they’re putting in is like this is a subscription game.

It is very weird, and I don’t expect you’ll ever get an official answer to your question.

They said in the past (before the game came out) that their focus was on making the game FUN and that being why they want people play as opposed to other games full of daily chores and responsibilities that keep you logging in. However I haven’t really seen them act on their words (though I do find parts of the game fun, of course – just not the daily/monthly crap they keep patching in).

Depends on your definition of casual. Some wouldn’t call that requirement ‘casual’

Assuming it’s linked to laurels or guild rewards at any rate (which is purely time).

Massive Multiplayer Online Role Playing Game:

Does that answer your question? the clue is even in the name of the genre of game, if you want a single player game, look for one, buy it, install it. When on earth did this simple and honestly with no offence intended “asinine” point become an issue?

But clearly you’re just taking the straw man route and making up ridiculous scenario’s where my statement is moot, that’s fine, I don’t expect anything less from here.

Fact is, time gating is one answer that to many, feels lazy and incredibly short sighted, but come on… what were you expecting?

making daily’s so inherently key to obtaining BIS gear, was a stupid move, nothing more to add to that, it was just stupid. Making them a huge time gate, was even more stupid, I left WoW for many reasons and one was the dictating of how often I could participate in certain content in a week, time gating isn’t fun and I ran from it to here, and now it’s yet another reason why I don’t recommend this game to anyone. but that’s just my opinion.

Fair enough, lets put this back in the context of the OP.

Let’s say that there was no daily system. I don’t see how the OP would be doing regular fractal runs or progressing through the levels there for it to even matter what their AR is (where all this “BIS gear” even matters in this game). This is not someone that plays casually, this is someone that barely plays. And they’re complaining about things in the game they likely wouldn’t be accessing regardless. They might as well whine about legendary acquisition next.

Not every single part of the game is going to be fully available to every single player.

That’s not really the game’s fault. It’s impossible to ‘fix’ this ‘problem’

That’s a terribly bleak way of looking at it, but I expect no less from this forum.

Really? What do fractals or dungeons have to offer the person who can’t stand grouping with others? Should that person be on here demanding single player dungeons?

I’m sure some do, but really, should Anet be listening to them? The fact is every kind of player will not be able to play/enjoy every part of the game. It’s impossible.

For a person like the OP who only gets to play one week a month, doing a daily every day is completely off the table. What’s the fix? Just require 7 a month? Is that enough for the OP? Why should it even be changed when plenty of people DO play the game every single day?

Is this class worth playing yet?

This is where a decent Boon Guard focused on giving might will shine the most. with indefinite 20+ stacks of might your groups DPS will go Higher then if you were to solo spec for DPS.

That is about an extra 200 points of damage for everyone whilst under the affects of the boon. 200×5=1000 extra damage output (your own base damage has already been factored in) This multiplier also affects skills what not that the other group members use.

Another aspect of the Boon Guard which does so well is that it also gives superior defencive boons and healing as a knock on from trying to bring as much might tot eh table as possible OR you are bringing as much might as possible whilst trying to heal and defend everyone.

I really don’t see a negative side to the boon Guard at all. The damage output of my Boon Guard wearing full clerics with Boon duration runes is comparable to my Knights/zerker Guard. Not exactly losing out on much at all.

I urge you to try it in any dungeon as practice. I run dungeons ALOT and have been doing fractals up to lvl 19 with it and it works very well. This is without any AR what so ever (can out heal the AR damage with burst healing from shouts and signet)

Greatly depends on the group composition. A boon d/d ele or warrior will do the same – and then you’re just wasting effort since you cap out on stacks while lowering individual effectiveness.

in Guardian

Exotic (orange) gear is the top stat budget gear in this game (aside from pink ascended which is still very limited), so that’s your ‘endgame’ goal as far as stats go. Though you’ll likely eventually find yourself in the same boat most of us are in of making multiple suits of exotic gear for various sets/roles you want to perform.

In the meantime you can make do with greens or yellows at level 80, but you want to aim for orange gear. Just try to figure out what kind of stats you want before you jump in – an orange suit does you little good if it’s all in stats that don’t compliment your build/playstyle.

I think any sort of “fun” in dungeons died when they announced to get rid of the “Holy Trinity”. The trinity made sure dungeons were organized, fluid, everyone had a specific job, and everyone got rewarded for that job.

I’m of the opposite mind in that I don’t find ‘tank, heal, dps’ particularly fun because I’ve been doing it for almost 15 years now. This system may not be perfect but it’s a lot more enjoyable to me.

At 80 i had mostly knights/clerics gear, slowly i replaced piece by piece until i am happy with my surviveability whilst trying to do high dps. My set up now is mostly zerkers

Honestly I think this is how it’s designed. At the start of pve content as you’re learning the ropes you want the stats on your gear to be more forgiving for errors you make defensively. But as you get better (and for a guardian as important – your party gets better) you can shift to a more glass cannon type gearset while retaining the necessary defensive traits/utilities to provide for the party.

That’s primarily why I’m staying balanced in my gear, because I do a lot of pugging and you never know what you’re going to get…

You’ll never be a true healer or tank really, so in my opinion going full support is just going to slow your group down unnecessarily (since you won’t do as much damage, thus boss fights take even longer). A balanced build is superior, enough that you can help the group out (it’s what guardians do) but still hit hard enough to matter on the damage end.

That’s not true. Guardians will never compare to any of the dps classes in dmg anyway so there’s no point in speccing for damage. Guards are useful for their boons and condition removal abilities as well as utility skills(reflection, retaliation, stability, regeneration etc.), not for their actual direct combat dmg.

The extra damage squeezed out with a full zerker spec (and I’ve tested it with a full zerker set) doesn’t outweigh the lost utility in support and survivability.

Nobody here is advocating running around in a full zerker set nor saying that a full dps guardian is the way to go.

I’d appreciate if you read what I said instead of try to put words in my mouth and argue those.

By full support what I meant was focusing on healing/tanking ONLY and ignoring damage entirely – this is a bad idea. A balanced build is where you really shine. As good a healer as you can possibly be, people will die if they make stupid mistakes nor can you “hold agro” – you will never prop up a party’s shortcomings in that fashion like you would in other games. You need to bring SOME damage to the table or you’re just as much a liability by extending boss fights.

MMOs fail because of low player counts, without exception. All that “integrity” and “difficulty” talk is nonsense.

If the number of casual, “lazy” people vastly outnumber the number of hardcore people, then the smartest business decision is going to be to cater to the former.

It is an interesting theory you’re proposing, that the lazy are numerous. I don’t really agree with that, and Anet has shown they can make a game run for years without taking over the entire marketshare. I get that a lot of people want this to be the next WOW or whatever, but some of us want something…different from this game.

The question is are there enough of us to keep Anet’s pockets full? I think there are.

This is a game, not work. Overly punishing lazy people or those who are bad at the game doesn’t mean automatically they will get better.

It just means they will move on to a different game and decreasing player counts is the beginning of the end to any MMO.

Not necessarily, it just means the game is not for everyone like some other MMOs try to be (and fall apart for that reason). GW1 ran strong for years without compromising their integrity in how difficult the content is.

I see no reason that GW2 should be different, and it isn’t even as difficult as GW1 was.

I agree the length of a full fractal run is prohibitive for the kind of gamer you appear to be. I think fractals are more of a ‘hardcore’ type content (as in, people with time to run them, not necessarily amazing players).

I actually enjoy fractals a lot, I love the combination of jumping puzzles with boss strategies involved in them. The giant statue one is actually my favorite – the part you were failing at is where the little statutes blow wind in a pattern, just have to watch for that and you can get through it no problem.

I’m probably going to insult some people here (I’m really not trying to) but I feel that dungeons are too difficult for the LAZY player. Not ‘average’ not ‘new’ just someone that doesn’t want to stop a second and figure out why the standard ‘rush in and attack’ doesn’t work so well for a particular encounter. These are not ‘WOW heroics’ in this game, there is an actual amount of thought required to progress through some of them beyond just punching your attack key.

I’m in a pretty small guild with a lot of ‘casual’ players and none of the dungeons we’ve done have been insurmountable. In my opinion, if we can do them, anyone can. It might require you to not spec glass cannon with pure damage traits/utilities/signets and might require you to dodge, however. I trust that isn’t too much for the ‘average’ player to handle.
