Use runes of water and keep evasive arcana. 0/0/4/4/6 is what I run, and the AoE blind and water dodges are still very important. I use sigil of battle/ energy as stacking might is still pretty important even on a cleric ele. That’s on D/D anyway.

With staff, I run 0/0/4/6/4 and use runes of Dwayna(for the AoE regen which removes conditions from party). Removing conditions is better in PvP than Benevolence because when you keep removing conditions, you are effectively raising your healing% on your team anyway. I don’t like Renewal that much, because I can’t use it when I want. Sometimes it may go on cooldown and everyone is full health or in a good spot. Sigil of Water is better, because you can toss out heals while doing damage but run into the same problem of over healing or it proccing not when you need it.

I prefer Sigil of Life or Sigil of Battle over either option, though. Sigil of Life is very snowbally if your team is doing well while Sigil of Battle helps your damage on staff. I also use Arcane Blast since blasting your own water fields is pretty important. Remember to use eruption with blasting staff on mid points, since it has a huge radius, then drop your water fields ontop of it for an additional blast. It helps make up the difference for not having evasive arcana blast finishers.

And ele can give AoE stability. Long enough to secure a stomp, anyway.

PvE doesn’t need healers at all, unless it’s some world boss maybe.

Healing in WvW, I’ve found, was extremely effective. When attacking or defending a structure, not only can you blast your own water fields easily with arcane wave/ earth dodge for around 2700 healing, activate your heal for a good 2400 healing(runes of water), but your staff auto attack 1 heals for 1100 every second, and if you use icebow, it can heal for 1500 every second. That’s amazing when pressuring a gate under AC fire or targeting people near your melee train when they run in.

It’s a different playstyle, and you have to approach fights as a healer who CCs rather than a DPS who occasionally tosses out a heal every 45 seconds. I found it fun, and my guild could see a difference in survivability just from one staff ele.

But I’m running zerk in WvW again, because big numbers are also fun. =p

7.5/10 only because I dislike the armor itself though I did like your choice of color schemes.

I chose to go with, well, colors in my outfit to represent all the elements(water/ice, fire, wind, earth).

Also, I haven’t had my stacks disappear from gathering or going underwater since I put the same stacking sigil on my underwater weapon as well. I know I had that problem in WvW when defending or attacking Bay, I’d lose all 25 stacks before going to inner, which was awful. Once I put the same sigil on my underwater weapon, that stopped.

Aquatic Benevolence Research Notes

I’m going to thread necro with my own research since this is the only thread that I’ve seen on the topic, and there is some good stuff here. This is all from a WvW p.o.v. and are all my opinions based on playing the different setups.

I’m currently running full cleric/ sigil of benevolence/ sigil of water with water runes. I’ve chosen runes of water over monk, because the 6 bonus on runes of water combined with my 1700 hp gives a nice additional healing cooldown for pressured situations. I don’t think the extra 10% outgoing healing is better than an extra 1500 AoE heal(with 600 radius, that’s enormous) on demand. I’m running sigil of water over renewal, because with blasting staff, I shouldn’t be close enough to take full advantage of renewal(more for D/F-D/D-Guardians imo), but I’m far enough away to take advantage of water(good with air staff 1).

I run Arcane Blast(a must imo for support staff; it not only lets you blast your own water fields easily, but it’s sometimes the only way you can tag things before they die!), Armor of Earth, and Ice bow(depending on situation, I will swap to Lightning Flash). I personally run 0/0/4/6/4. I’ve found the stability from swapping to earth attunement more universally useful for both support and personal survivability than evasive arcana. I found myself using evasive arcana more selfishly in fights, and trying to use the really small AoE on cleansing wave got me into more trouble than it saved. With smaller more organized groups where stacking and less chaos happens, then evasive arcana is just the best trait ever since game launch. But for roaming around in server TS with blob, I favor stability on swap.

I don’t play like a DPS who has good healing power. I look for opportunities for my build to perform better, and that’s not in the DPS roll. I almost sacrifice all bags in large fights to make sure I’m maximizing my build and gear choice. In ZvZ, I make sure I toss out my Healing Rain immediately for the regen buff and condi removal at the meeting point between trains. I call target over the person leading our zerg(or guild) and target people nearby to them with water staff 1(with stacks, it’s a 1000 heal every 3/4th second). Otherwise, I provide crowd control to help break up their blobs. If Geyser/ HR/ MTRSTR/ CC are all down, I use ice bow and do the same thing I would do with water staff 1, since it’s more powerful. And yes, I will meteor shower when appropriate, but that’s really the only DPS cooldown I use(Icebow 4/ Arcane Blast to help tag if we’re winning).

But this build really shines in attacking and defending structures. With ice bow, full stacks, runes of water, and arcane blast to blast your own water fields(whoever blasts the field, it uses -their- HP for the ratio; so, you should try and blast your own with eruption into arcane blast), you can keep your rammers and repair people alive much longer. The amount of healing you can put out on people on rams with HR up, Ice bow autoattacks(1350 per ice bow 1 with full stacks), ambient water attument regen, water runes 6, and blasting your own water fields is pretty amazing.

Now, this is the interesting part of my research. The older healing build with Cleansing Water, Cleansing Wave, and Elemental Attument is just as effective, because the damage mitigated by removing conditions can sometimes exceed the healing done by aquatic benevolence and its counterparts. It’s playing the RNG game with your healing numbers(because the condis you remove may not be doing damage, but they may help your team do more damage, which is the point of healing in the first place). Also, it depends on your positioning in fights, but is less controlled by your healing rain cooldown to remove conditions from allies.

Like with the 20 in earth vs 30 in arcana, I’ve found the older healing build with both Cleansing Water and Evasive Arcana to be more successful in open field/ gvg where condi clear is more crucial in succeeding than higher HPS numbers. Benevolence(Trait/ Sigil) I’ve found to be better in both an organized attack/ defending situation.

Eh, it’s alright. Quickness is good for hard channeling abilities or spamming strong auto attacks. We don’t have any of this except scepter’s air and water autos. It won’t help things like shatterstone, ice spike, dragon’s tooth, or stuff like that activate faster after cast. Using our standard rotations “quicker” won’t help too much, because it’ll still be highly telegraphed and easily dodged. Channel dragon’s breath or cone of cold faster won’t mean much…

Assuming that Collaborative Development is actually going to be listened to this time instead of blithely ignored like everything else when CDI was still going on:

1: Revert all changes discussed in the February Ready up show. All of them. Except probably the Signet of Restoration reversion. Maybe even that. The only one that is probably worth keeping is Armour of Earth CDR to 75 seconds.

  • Evade frames on Burning Speed takes the risk out of using the skill. 15 in Air or Earth already negates the effect of Blind or Aegis on it; no need to make a strong skill even stronger by taking the risk out. It’s dumb and you can bet it will lead to imbalance in the future if Ele is buffed. Then things ancillary to Burning Speed evade frames get nerfed and we get the current state of Dhuumfire-less Necromancer. Stop it.
  • Blast Finisher on Frozen Burst is un-necesary and doesn’t fix the Elementalist Sustain problem. Which smart fox was it that suggested that idea? There are no Water Fields to blast, only Fire. The only benefit this gives Elementalist is more Might stacks – of which D/D elementalist can easily retain 15+ of. Elementalist damage was never in question here – except in the Dagger and Scepter autoattacks for Fire and Water.
  • 3 Seconds of Regeneration on Water Trident _doesn’t increase Elementalist Sustain

This is a pretty selfish view of the changes. They aren’t meant, besides burning speed, for solo purposes. They are for team play, which most of the game revolves around.

1: Increased HP pool. I run around 3200 armor and 600 healing power roaming in WvW, yet I can still die instantly to some thief burst or engi burst. If I survive by blowing big cooldowns, I still fight to match damage output/ heal to win a fight, even when their big offensive skills are on cooldown. Something is fundamentally wrong here. Eles have a poor way of “punishing” people for poor berserker play. I think an increased HP pool will open but more build diversity.

2: Give them a broader variety of conditions. If an ele wants to spec for condition damage, we soley rely on burning and bleeding unless we completely gear for, not more condition damage or duration, but for more conditions(sigil of doom/torment/perplexity runes), which makes our inherent condition pressure weaker than other classes(except guardian who suffers similiar problems).

3: Seriously remove/rework useless weapon abilities, utilities and traits. There are just some which are meaninglessly underwhelming. Staff autoattacks are really clunky, and it’s damage relies on players or enemies standing still for X seconds. Dagger autoattacks, minus lightning whip are all pretty awful. Focus is in dire need of a rework. It has nice defensive potential, but it is peppered with terrible abilities that offer very little. Other people are covering utilities and traits more in-depth.

Overall, we’re forced into cantrips and water/arcana not because they are overpowered, but because everything else is really underwhelming. It just feels better to go into arcana, and it just feels better to have healing/condition removal by swapping to water attunement. The other choices don’t offer much in terms of a good flow or feeling without sacrificing a huge amount of utility. Why not let us retain what feels good about the class innately while giving us options for flavor and utility on top of it instead of making us choose between the two.

I don’t want nor understand why so many eles want a sword as a weapon. We have a close range offensive weapon with a dagger, mid range offensive weapon with sceptor, and plenty of conjured weapons that are also close to mid range. What we lack is a real offensive ranged weapon that is quick and damage focused. The staff is very slow, clunky, and is more for support than pure damage. I think a rifle with focused in “magic bullets” or ammunition the way some other games manage it would be extremely fun and impressive.

I only play sPvP and WvW, so I have little ambition of ever getting a legendary. I have six level 80s, and the most map completion I have on one of them is 40%. I despise doing guild missions, dungeons, fractals, world bosses, or map completion. It’s boring and no fun for me, so I have eliminated the possibility of ever getting a legendary from day one, and I’m alright with that.

Do I wish I had access to get one through sPvP and WvW solely? Yes, of course. But on the flip side, getting 30 ranks in WvW vs doing dungeons and doing map completion is nothing.

I’m pretty sure this was another move to have the same population spread out a bit more doing things, so they can come out with another report claiming, “Actually, we’ve seen population increase in this part of the game” like they did for sPvP last report, which is clearly and obviously untrue.

Way, WAY too forced. Every time they talk it’s like a brick to the face. There’s nothing subtle about any of it.

Regardless of whether or not there’s some sort of agenda, you do not write couples of any kind by being this overt. The best kind of gay characters don’t make you say “oh, this character is gay.” They make you question “Oh, I wonder if this character MIGHT be gay.” There are plenty of perfectly good gay relationships already in Guild Wars. My particular favorite is the female Charr in Ascalon who talks in passing about how her female lover was killed.

The team doesn’t seem to understand that you don’t write characters whose character is that they are gay. You write good characters who also happen to be gay. I constantly dabble in this subject with writing and roleplaying, and Kasmeer and Marjory just make me roll my eyes every time they talk because every bit of dialogue recently has been “we’re lesbians.” There’s no substance, just forced romance.

I disagree. I’m not a fan of all the top google searches “is so and so gay”. It’s refreshing to see it out and the open and in your face. Let’s not speculate. The point is that there is no shame, no reason to be subtle. It seems straight-oriented people are having trouble stepping into someone else’s shoes for a moment in a fantasy world where everyone isn’t initially identified as straight. What’s the best way to reinfornce or introduce the idea that open same-sex relationships aren’t condemned? By not being subtle and shoving it in your face the same way hetero couples lovey, dovey over-the-top emotional scenes and stuff get shoved in LGBT people’s faces.

The writing is a bit shoddy and knee height, but I think it’s a good start so they won’t have to be so aburpt with storyline pairings in the future. There won’t be as many questions should they introduce a different couple in the future, and hopefully that will allow them to be less obvious.

tldr; I think the obviousness and openness is a tool used by the writers to describe how different Tyria is from our world. The dialogue beats you over the head with it, and that’s a good thing, because should another pairing come up in the future, players will know how to handle it without all the speculation.

Unfortunately, it is relevant when almost all same sex relationships in entertainment(books, tv, movies) end up terrible. They are commonly short lived and interrupted by death whether it’s murder, suicide, or an affair with someone of the opposite sex.

Mist Form is currently garbage in the condition/ immobilize spam state we’re in at the moment. I don’t use it in any form of PvP. Armor of earth, lightning flash, and cleansing fire. Mist Form just gets you killed these days as you try to use it at low HP then die to conditions or immobilize.

I still run mistform, it isn’t such a bad skill as people claim to be. I prefer it above armor of earth since it doesn’t make me such a huge corrupt boon target. And being completely invulnerable to damage ( aside from existing conditions on you ) is still better than having -33% damage reduction. It’s also pretty much a guaranteed stomp/ress unless they have a teammate that stealths the downed body.

Corrupt boon? Not a factor, really. You can use armor of earth to secure stomps, cast safely, channel ether renewal safely, channel churning earth safely, all kinds of things. Mist form just isn’t good anymore. It’s another skill that makes us forgo continuing doing damage while we try to survive longer- like being pretty much pigeonholed into ether renewal and not attacking for 3 1/2 seconds every 15 seconds.

Once the sigil changes come, I’ll probably start running geomancy/ doom.

Also, I use a sigil of life and get full stacks before switching to torment. It gives you around 650 healing power with WvW bloodlust.

I use the glyph heal simply for perma swiftness. If I think I’ll have a tough fight coming up, I’ll switch it to ether renewal or signet. If it’s a warrior or thief though, I’ll just keep the glyph heal on for the long lasting protection.

How do I beat a hambow?

Going to agree that a meditation dps guardian with sigil of leeching/ sigil of blood does really well against them. Sigil of blood does 300 damage with a 2 second icd, so it helps against healing signet well enough. Smite condition is really useful against them as it helps you keep pressure.

Axe/ Dagger + Sword/ Warhorn rangers with perma poison application does really well against them as well with boar/ spider pet.

I’ve had success against them with a phantasmal mesmer. Scepter/Sword + Sword/ Pistol with Project. Reflect Heal/ Phant Disenchanter/ Mimic or Arcane Thievery(since they have no access to blinds)/ Blink.

Does anyone know the official reason why we cannot have an offspec? It would make the entire game through sPvP to PvE more enjoyable, in my opinion. Less people would be in the cities(so often anyway) going to the bank/ trainer, and it is simply just a quality of life issue.

I understand there is the retraiter item, but who really buys those? Even if you have two specs you can toggle and switch between, you’re still going to be fine tuning them and changing them up some based on circumstance, so the item won’t be worthless, but as of right now, it is simply a bother or a pothole to want to switch between builds/gear.

Combined with Adrenal Health it is just simply too much.

It’s miles better than any other healing signet in the game. They don’t -need- it to be that high. The counters, poison and high burst, do not work, because they have too many ways to rid themselves of conditions, and they have too many ways to counter burst. There is no way around dealing with healing signet fairly except to 2v1 them.

That doesn’t mean they will win every 1v1, it just means that no matter the warrior build, if they have healing signet and adrenal health, it means that they will live long enough no matter what their build is and are better at accomplishing any role.

The current HPS of healing signet and adrenal health is neutering profession diversity in sPvP and tPvP since with those two things, you can put a warrior in any role and actually use different builds and be viable where as other professions who should excel at one particular role because of a lack of build diversity are outshined by warriors and not represented.

You save your water geyser for stacking, otherwise it’s just a waste to throw it out. If you’re not specced for healing power, then it doesn’t really matter if you blast it or not. If you are specced for healing power, then try to at least blast it once or twice.

You shouldn’t have to wait 4 seconds after casting eruption to cast Healing Rain, because it lasts long enough to get blasted by eruption. Water Geyser, though, you’ll need to wait a second or two.

As said, though, it’s mostly for WvW. In dungeons where you stack bosses ontop of you, it’s useful as well, but people may get upset if it’s not yet another fire field for might stacks.

Target enemy player option?

One of my biggest pet peeves in WvW or PvP in general is there is no target nearest enemy player option. Tab targeting is really sloppy, as it could target pets, clones, summons, moas, guards, or anything that is around.

Is this intentional so going stealth or classes with clones cannot be so easily targeted?

Or has it just be overlooked or forgotten about?

At the moment, I’m tabbing, calling target, seeing if it’s in a good position, if it’s not, just giving up and right clicking targets before committing big cooldowns in big WvW fights.

If you get ascended clerics with an ele, you can have around 3500 attack with bloodlust sigil, WvW buff, and stone and around 1600-1700 healing power with mango food(same buff as stone but for healing). You do decent damage, and spec for healing power/ CD reduction of water spells/ Condition Removal(with runes of dwayna for more aoe regen, condi removal).

You can really notice the difference in the strength of your healing when playing correctly. Save geyser for regroups, a well timed Healing Rain and using your ranged blast finisher(arcane wave), can put out a lot of healing. If your peels/big cooldowns are down, you can spam water auto attacks for around 800 heals on your melee train if you just right click enemies around them. It has a 3/4th cast time which doesn’t count for projectile travel speed, but it’s essentially 800 hps for your melee train, stronger regen, stronger passive water regen, and stronger evasive arcana heals. It really adds up once you get use to the build and how to position yourself/ manage cooldowns.

I’m doing very well in tPvP having never touched focus for more than luls in sPvP.

And how is it irrelevant? If you’re saying you aren’t 1v1ing but team fighting and trying not to take 1400ish damage because you have focus-earth-5 to best utilize the cheese of diamond skin is… the best way to use the trait, then I’m not sure you know what is up in PvP. Even though you clearly say you want to team fight but if you get “jumped on by mutliple people” when you have no escapes or sustain, you will die, but you still want to teamfight… I just don’t know.

My apologies for trying to get this idea more foundation. Best of luck in hotjoins.

Not to mention your fresh air burst rotation is really suboptimal. Hurl + Lightning Flash + Air 15, Air 2 + Comet + Arcane Blast + Air 15, Air 4 for the KD+ Fire anything(landing a phoenix behind them before they get up is max damage) is much more damage and the daze prevents any retaliation minus dodging. With enough practice you can pull it off in around 2 seconds.

The first build is kind of doody. You get so much more out of valk amulet since you scale tremendously with healing power up until around 600. Final Shielding is a horrible trait. It still suffers from the mechanic which if you’re bursted down from 26%-0% it’ll never proc. Renewing Stamina is much better. Drop the move speed signet for cleansing fire/armor of earth and pick up some runes that actually give you something decent. You’re not running enough toughness/vitality/healing power to take full advantage of diamond skin on that build. You’re relying on your opponent to just make a mistake and blow cooldowns on you before just auto attacking you a few times, and you have almost zero ways to enter/leave/disengage fights because of the focus offhand, you have no way to get your health back above that threshold. Dagger offhand would even serve you better in this regard, because you could save your RTL and lightning flash to disengage to full heal.

Second build same thing. I’m not sure why you’re chosing focus unless you’re opting for the comet daze to put out more fresh air damage. Without evasive arcana or DOH cleansing wave, you just have zero staying power or ways to fully utilize diamond skin. The 30 in earth is giving you nothing for the build or the idea. If you want to go full gimmick, take 20 out of earth, put it into water, take vital striking, something else, and pick up valk amulet with berskerer jewel and some other kind of runes. You’d have around 450 healing power, do just as much damage above 90% hp, and have more options.

It’ll give you the edge in roaming versus equally skilled or slightly better players. This is, after all, a game of numbers as all games are when you boil them down.

I’d suggest just crafting what you enjoy playing with primarily and spend any left overs on the fotm. I’m running clerics on my staff ele and settler’s on my roaming build. I enjoy the play style, and I’m just pooling up my resources and waiting for the big March patch to see which direction I want to take next.

Everyone is going to feel this nerf. That means you’ll still be doing far more damage when you run into someone as they will do to you. Your kill time may just extend to 4 seconds longer. Oh, the woes.

I’ve been playing Ele since release, and I don’t have any of these problems in PvP. I don’t think these are inherent flaws in class design or mistakes made in balance. There are things I would “like” to have as an Ele, but I don’t think there’s anything I truly need at the moment besides better balanced trait lines. Build diversity is the only thing that gets stale and unfun about the class.

The lack of balance becomes obvious when you play other professions in PvP, and more than five times to just check them out.

I have five other level 80s all with sPvP, tPvP, WvW experience. Ele is just my main, and I still don’t agree with all the mass whining most of the points on the main page attempts to make.

WvW Healer?

I really enjoy playing this build as well. I personally feel if I can cure as many conditions and heal as much as I can on my melee train and allow them(5 members) to do damage for longer, then the trade off of not doing as much damage myself is worth it.

I run Runes of Dwayna(for the Regen on Heal Skill, which removes conditions from teammates around you) and XI in water. With full ascended clerics, food, and bloodlust, you can reach around 2k healing power. Once your CC/ MS/ big water cooldowns are down, you can switch to icebow and right click enemies around your melee train and heal them for around 1k every 3/4ths seconds which is MASSIVE HPS. Icebow 4 -> auto attacks on your melee train -> drop it and start throwing out your CC/ water fields again.

I tried to run glyph of renewal for a while, but the cast time is far too long to reliably res downed players during WvW fights.

You won’t get as many bags, but I feel like you can visibly notice the difference playing this build. Add celestial trinkets in later if you want more damage. Staff benefits from every stat on celestial.

What i meant in WvW was more small groups play.
Elementalist dont really have anything except CC and CC is hardcountered by anyone who uses anti stun stuff. even in a group. it reduces the effective DPS of the party at that stage. So your stuck in the zerg. with CC wich have no use.

With meteor shower i kind of meant that youll only be in zergs spamming 5 because the rest isnt really worth it. doesnt add allot. even if you manage to get a good air 5 off a group of the zerg 1 antistun and its nullified wich is bound to happen with any organised guild playing.

Also the waterfields might seem good, but in general the only good one is 5 for taking towers, and that has a huge cooldown aswell.

Sorry if my comment is confusing, busy with different stuff at the same time!

For a beta player you have a really bad understanding of the benefits of a staff ele in wvw.

Anything that can remove your boons or apply consistent poison will eat any ele for lunch since we’re very reliable on boons and healing/protection/regen when our damage is on cooldown.

Healing Signet is not to powerful!

With 1800 healing power, my passive healing signet for my ele doesn’t reach the warriors with 0 healing power and adrenal health. That’s not the best comparison, but if you had 1800 healing power on a ranger, your signet of the wild wouldn’t reach the warriors 0 healing power and adrenal health either, and it takes up a utility slot.
