There’s no issue IMO with allowing cancel casting autos to be more efficient, but it’s a problem with stow weapon lightning whip because of the results you achieve with healing signet.

The benefit is too strong in that situation. I have no issue with players being able gain a benefit by being able to use their mechanical prowess to unconsciously gain a minor upper hand. It’s just too much with the elementalist right now.

You do realize that we live in an era of 12 button programmable mouses and keyboards that can run multiple in game actions at the click of a button?

This is a case of hardware superiority not mechanical

My opinion is that if someone can pull off the timing of stow weapon casting on top of everything else they’re doing, I don’t mind if they have a slight advantage, I mind when it’s at the effectiveness the elementalist is currently at.

Everything since I can set my 12 key on my mouse to auto attack and cancel at the fraction of a second needed to. This means i just hit 1 key to auto attack/cancel making it just as easy as smashing my face on my KB.

That won’t work, you still need to execute the timing. You’ll actually cancel lightning whip mid cast and put it on a one second cool down if you mess the timing up.

Uhh nope because I can set the time between actions by hundredths of a second.

That means a perfect auto/stow everytime.

You can already gain advantages with macros in the game. Top players don’t do it because it’s against the user agreement and their team will forfeit when they’re caught.

There’s no reason to make any additional consideration towards macros than the existing consideration you’d take for something like dodge jumping or skill comboing.

The macro argument provides no additional weight against or for stow weapon casting.

OP, Thief mobility is not due to stealth. That just supplements their ability to escape. Their mobility comes from their teleports and gap closers.

You should not be surprised that you can’t catch a thief on a triple kit engineer. Thief is the most mobile class in the game, closely followed by warrior. It’s designed to be fragile and agile.

Your issue is not stealth, an S/D thief would still escape from you, even if they don’t use shadow refuge.

Otherwise the change is as easy as disabling skill cancel on the aftercast.

Cele rifle engi and Cele Ele are the two best conquest builds in the game right now.

As far as what nerfs are going to be applied to them goes, I don’t know what ANet will do, but because these builds do so many things well ANet has a lot of options for the eventual nerfs.

If you want to play dagger in pvp D/P is better.

You won’t get higher than a 14k backstab in PvP. You’d only get that if you built specifically for it.

On average you’ll be getting 6k crit backstabs with standard D/P builds.

Playing thief well does require a lot of game knowledge and experience.

The best way to start playing would be to focus on outnumbering fights and looking for decap opportunities.

If you play with a focus on these two things you’ll start gaining the experience over time.

Besides playing, one of the most valuable tools you have at playing thief well is watching people stream. Magic Toker and Sizer are the best thieves that also currently stream. You’ll get a lot out of seeing the tendencies of a good thief. They play S/D, but if you ever see Caed start streaming again he plays D/P.

immobilize stacking

If immobilize stacking was a huge issue you’d see top teams abusing it all the time.

Immob stacking rarely happens in high tier play because players know staggered immobs are stronger since they require multiple cleanses.

This game is not solely balanced around high tier play. If something is broken, fix it.

I’m not sure why you have this opinion, if you’d observe ANet’s past behavior you’d see that they do changes targeting various tiers.

They have already reduced the amount immobilize can be stacked.

To eliminate this entirely wouldn’t have a huge impact in high tier play, but it wouldn’t have a huge impact on any tier quite honestly. People that want to abuse immobilize will quickly learn to chain it, which will actually be a stronger use of it.

So instead of immobilize stacking people would instead be complaining about immobilize chaining.

ANet would also have to change devourer venom in some way as the skill itself would be counterintuitive.

They’re is also the consideration of condi duration reduction. Short duration immobilize become near useless vs a Warrior with hoelbrak and dogged March, when they can’t be chained.

Are all these things problems that need to be considered? Maybe. Maybe not. Personally I feel immob stacking is fine in its current state and forces players to better learn how to deal with immobilize, and ultimately makes it easier for them to learn to deal with it as immob chaining is stronger.

Well the reason I like current defiance is that you can use your CC to get around the Boss’s CC immunity however I don’t like the fact it’s ridicilously hard to coordinate who’s taking off the last defiance stack and who’s getting off the best CC move after deviance is broken without 2 people accidently firing at one defiance stack at the same time and resetting deviance again.

Making breaking Defiance creating a CC window means you don’t have to coordinate that precisely but you still can’t spam CC mindlessly or else the Boss will get a fresh stack of Defiance when you really need to CC him.

If defiance continues to be a thing, I’d like it if it behaved somewhat similarly to the revealed debuff. Ideally once you get rid of defiance stacks, the target loses defiance for 3 seconds and can be CC’ed numerous occasions for that time. Then defiance would come back.

This gives you a window to do things like land frost bow 5 or unload a fear chain.

Nah, the state of thief is very well balanced at the moment.

You don’t see them running rampant in PvP, and teams with 2 or more are often at a disadvantage.

Interesting opinions, I like the way thief plays though because of the initiative system. You have the option of sustaining your resources or exhausting them all, which I like managing.

Any particular reason anyone can think of that during the similar times (nowish 10:15 EST) over the course of a couple nights one’s latency would shoot up to 300ms for a hardwired connection to a modem that’s internet connection is getting 42ms ping to Dallas Texas?

It’s very frustrating when the game is unplayable for zerker classes.

I see a wide range of build types, which unfortunately means I end up seeing full glass teams vs balanced or even full glass vs full Celestial.

It’s just bound to happen sometimes. It’d be nice if these matches weren’t so one sided in higher ranked queues.

This trick I’ve never seen anyone else utilize, but for context if you’re low on health and have condi’s you need removed…

…when you shadowstep for distance, if you swap to short bow and fire your shortbow 5 twice at the same spot shot then shadow return while the 1st projectile is in the air the second projectile will still be queued and make you reach your end destination.

Both air+fire AND celestial+might stacking are problems…they’re the 2 faces of the same medal, double proc counters reterded condition bunker meta so just nerf both and we should be fine. Only removing double on crit procs (Even on autos) would just make celestial spam even stronger…every nerf on sustained dmg is actually a buff for bunkers…so you need to tone both of them down or this is gonna be even worse

So sigil critting berserkers, sigil swapping celestial bruisers and bunkers who benefit from damage nerfs need nerfs.

For such a juggling act, I really don’t get the vibe that all these things can be implemented at once, which is the fair thing.

If they don’t implement at once they’re just gonna break this game even more…if they nerf sustained dps we’re gonna see even more celestial clowns around, if they nerf celestial bunkers everyone is just gonna run bunker guard, side bunker (soldier hambow probably) and 3 zerk specs just killing everything else with random procs…making it a oneshot roulette…and both cases are gonna be worse that this already bad sotg

It seems like people are largely happy with the overall balance at the moment, what people are really asking for in my opinion, is for the game to be a bit less spammy so that team coordinated combat can surface a bit more. The different things that people are calling out such as double sigil procs and celestial might stacking and nightmare runes are all callouts to slow the game down. If you slow the game down you also need to nerf bunkers and support though.

First, some context about Air and Fire sigil. They are only run on zerker burst specs.

With that being understood, if we apply the suggestion originally posted we’d basically be nerfing burst builds a bit, but the burst would still trigger the sigil procs for everything except thief. Power ranger skill 2 will proc the sigils, mesmer shatters combos will still proc the sigils on burst, DPS guardian will still proc the sigils on burst, not that power engi is a thing anymore but that will still proc sigils.

D/P Thief is havily reliant on it’s auto attack and backstab for most of it’s damage, so the suggestion would be another nerf to D/P thief by relativity. S/D thief is actually heavily reliant on sigils for damage.

Making this change to sigils is a heavy nerf via relativity to thief. Additionally, given the state of hybrid builds I’m not sure you actually want to nerf air + fire procs, otherwise you might as well have everyone running hybrids/bunkers.

It’s a delicate balance imo, nerfing air + fire specifically targets zerker builds. In my opinion you can’t nerf those unless you simultaneously nerf hybrid runes and sigils and bunker runes and sigils as well.

Regardless of whether or not it is balanced, it’s not particularly good design to have everything stack onto a single ability like that. It would be much healthier if that power was distributed elsewhere in the class’ skill set.

This is mostly a function of the current (weak) trait design; as long as there are substantial differences in the power level of traits we’ll have a problem like this.

I like having one skill that does a lot of little things. It makes it risky for me to use and forces me to wait to use it until I think it’ll hit. It’s a risky skill to utilize because of all the little things it offers. If you use it for a specific beneift, such as the interrupt you may have wasted the healing it offers, wasted it’s boon removal (potentially), wasted it’s poison, or potentially anything else it does. You might have set yourself up to be corrupted. It all depends on the situation, and reality is that because it does so many little things, you have to figure out within the situaiton when the most optimal times to use it are.

I also think people don’t realize the amount of pressure invuln, stealth, dodges, evades, blinds, and blocks puts on a thief, especially when you want to steal, and especially in skirmishes/team fights. The biggest risk is missing steal. You’re left open to attacks while not dealing damage, which is the worst position for anyone to be in, but more impactful to a thief due to squishiness.

Keeping the effective power of everything as is, if it all gets distributed elsewhere, I may be able to use steal willy nilly and not care if I miss it, because everything that it used to do I just get for free from other parts of combat anyways. I rather like the decision making involved in using steal currently, because often times you realize that when you used it may have been a good time, but you can identify other times that would have been good to utilize is as well.

Regardless, thief isn’t at the top or bottom of the totem pole, so why make changes to it. Also making changes for the sake of making changes, which is what it looks like this is, seems like a waste of time to me.

Every profession has strong aspects that people will complain about, for thief at the moment the target is traits that buff steal which causes steal to do a bunch of small things. Compare the strengths of thief to other professions and thief steal looks tame or on par with things like ele water attunement having AoE 2-3 condi removal and AoE healing 3k every 10 seconds on swap + dodge, or ranger using point blank shot + rapid fire every 12 seconds, or engineer grenade spam applying burning, bleeds, poison/doom every 10 seconds, etc…

There’s a lot that’s strong on each profession. One thing to keep in mind is that the Trickery line is what keeps meta thief builds viable currently. Maybe one day thief will have other options, but if you look across all professions, the 5th trait line is usually heavily invested into with a few exceptions.

That’s not steal, that’s steal plus devoting most of your traits to steal.

Steal by itself is just a gap closer and gives you a skill to use.

What specific thing do you want counterplay for? Because all ports have counterplay in the form of other port skills and free roaming movement abilities such as rtl or rush.

Do you want counterplay for slight of hand, because any port skill offers that, or any stun break skill.

Do you want counterplay to the recharge? Because chill offers that.

Do you want counterplay to Poison or weakness? Because condition removal offers that.

Do you want counterplay to thrill of the crime? Because boon removal offers that.

Do you want counterplay to the mug heal? Because Poison offers that.?

Do you want counterplay to mug damage? Because damage reduction abilities offer that. Weakness, protection, 0 damage abilities, half damage abilities, etc.

As a whole steal can be countered via blinds and blocks and invulnerabilities and evades and stealth.

So while steal is strong when Traited. It does have counterplay.

You should specify what you want exactly. It seems like you are implying you want steal to have a tell, in which case thief would need changes in other areas to not be so reliant upon steal, or you lose too much viability and potentially end up like Ele pre Celestial buff.

So any changes to steal traits would have to be paired with opening other things up for thief. It means shifting the way thief is played, and slowly changing the professions play style. Otherwise when you give steal a tell, everyone knows to go dps mode on the thief until the steal tell and evade, and the thief will likely drop first 7/10 times in that scenario.

All that said, you’re talking about making changes for the sake of making changes in my opinion because ultimately thief play revolves around being in control of a situation and managing that situation until you win, as soon as you lose control you need to reset or die, steal is a big part of that, so you’d just be delegating what steal does to something else by changing it.

Shadow isn’t useless in PvP, that’s one of the biggest misnomers of the line.

1. When does a thief ever stand on point to contest while using dagger? They don’t. SA makes you less squishy as a thief anyways and actually give you more point presence.

2. No comment

3. Sitting in stealth forever is mostly rewarding because of the pressure of the unknown placed upon the enemy. Anything else from SA is just bonus on top of that.

How many meta builds (regardless of profession) actually have purely offensive utilities used heavily? Probably close to zero percent.

Hey there,

Here are a few tidbits from the team:

  • A lot of newer players had trouble with the interface. That doesn’t apply to you, you’re veterans who have been around the conversion block a time or two. But newer players will benefit from the updated system.
  • The goal was to make the Gem Store more like other shopping experiences, and if you think about it, there is more of that feel to it now.
  • You may be surprised to know this (I know I was) but very few people bought gems at smaller denominations than the first one offered in the new system. That’s not to say they never did, nor that there wouldn’t be the desire to do so. But overall, the current options were selected based on player purchases in the past.
  • The team is going to listen to your feedback and, if and when it’s practical and desirable, they can look towards adjusting the new system to better meet your needs.

So please keep your thoughts coming on the new system. Feel free to make suggestions but please, keeping them constructive would be very much appreciated.

Have both systems, just make the one vets used more hidden, you’ve already got the work done for it.

Also for the new player experience, add a 100 gem increment.

Currently most of the playerbase views this change as a terrible attempt at a long term money grab.

I would like to see things that make the game more consumable for viewers and players analyzing tactics.

Spectator mode is great, but without replays, and the option to save off replays I think a lot of value is being wasted. Being able to save off highlights of replays would help the player base and ArenaNet market PvP as an added bonus.

Visual effects and the speed of the game make it hard to tell what’s going on quite often unless you have a trained eye. It’d be awesome if Spectator mode had a queue of the last 10 incoming hits and the last 10 or so outgoing skills used. That way people can double check what they think they saw.

I think once they get the Spectator mode issues worked out they can then make PvP f2p and simultaneously release a way for players to build a prize pool. Identify a way to measure revenue generated by pvp and take a portion of that and offer it up as prize money. Also a way to directly contribute to an annual prize pool would be awesome.

Tl;dr

  • Replays with Spectator mode
  • Save off replay highlights into video format
  • Spectator mode history of of recent incoming damage
  • Spectator mode history of recent skills used
  • Method of calculating revenue generated by pvp and returning a percentage back to the player base as a prize pool
  • Way to directly contribute to an annual prize pool, with some kind of reward reward for contributors.

S/D Acro Trickery is your starting point most likely.
But D/P blinds can be just like dodges in many cases.

I wouldn’t keep the mind set that you want to have a build that you can use between all game modes. Each game mode is played differently, as such your build should be different for each play style. That said, it’s up to you.

Then warriors would be calling for targets when roaming between points and it’d be on every warrior bar, and greatswords would probably be meta, and warriors would potentially replace thieves.

100b you want to combo into, if you look at the skills in a vacuum they look disproportionate.

When you consider PW + Teleport, also consider Earthshaker + Hundred Blades, or Pin Down + Hundred Blades, etc…

Also consider that Warriors have healing signet so they are constantly healing during hundred blades and after so they can recover from damage they may have taken during the risky move.

Evade and blocking classes have a sizable advantage in orb running.

There’s some issues that can be pointed out such as this, but ultimately the map impacts both teams equally. It’s a slight problem when teams might lack player proficiencies in these ideal orb running builds.

I think the biggest appeal of spirit watch though is that it’s something different, which if there’s a lot of demand for something different, might show that PvP in it’s current state is getting stale (which, to a certain extent, it is for various people)

The best way get things done is having friends in the right places. Known from experience.

This is how it works for various cases of college athletes. Obviously though it’s felt there is no hope for the situation being discussed. So I have no desire to press the issue.

Lying about the reasoning is an offense that would get me kicked out of my University. Don’t know where you’re from but I’m really not willing to jeopardize my entire future to play one Tournament.

Obviously don’t lie, that’s a terrible option put up against another option so it looks like there’s 1 thing that makes sense to do (should have put a ‘lol’ or something next to that). I’d encourage everyone to make connections, they give you opportunities that other’s may not get, breaking trust by lying is only going to take away opportunities.

Again no reason to press the issue like I said, so I won’t. It’s just unfortunate scheduling doesn’t work out.
