There is sometimes toxic behavior at all levels. It’s unfortunate when it’s top down, which is sometimes the case. However, for things that operate on the platform we know and love as the internet internet anyone is able to have a say, that’s the beautiful and ugly thing about it.

Anyone can do/say anything they want at a moments notice, and passion and emotion is not something that everyone can keep in check. So when you see great joy expressed in competition, it’s not surprising that you’d also see malice expressed too.

Ultimately each individual within the community is capable of eliminating there own toxic behavior, but that’s not a realistic expectation to have all the time. To reduce toxicity the best players can currently do is hold themselves accountable for there own actions, communicate constructively, and when they encounter toxic behavior to denounce it, while not feeding it.

It’s easier to destroy than build, there’s truth to that, but communicating “YOU’RE SO BAD, QUIT THIS GAME AND RL” instead of “The team needed you at point A, not B” hurts the community as a whole, especially when that negativity gets fed further and further.

Something to handle disconnects really should be implemented.

The challenge is how do you do this in a fair way. Because builds that are high risk, high reward get a huge disadvantage if you just pause when a DC happens. You also don’t want to implement something that can be taken advantage of and gamed.

Veterans know what combo effect results are already, perhaps with the exception of Light Aura for some.

However, it’d be nice to have something to actually look at. Gw2skills.net does a decent job at it.

In game though, this is not there. Maybe it could go on the Hero panel, under it’s own tab within Skills and Traits so you’d see Slot Skills, Traits, and Combos (mmm tastey).

Doesn’t matter where it’s implemented in the UI, but at the very least having a way to view all possible combinations should be in game in my opinion. A nice to have would be that the combos that your current build can do would be highlighted. Another nice to have would be combos your profession is capable of performing regardless of current build be highlighted too. Finally my favorite nice to have would be character preview of the effect actively happening.

Again, not a big deal for veterans like me, but for new players it’s definitely really nice to have.

When you added light field, I wanted to see it, it’s icon, and read what it did, but didn’t have any way of doing so except checking on my guardian and actually testing a leap through a light field, because I knew that was how to trigger it from reading the wiki.

Combos are a big part of combat, so I feel like come next feature patch, giving a little love to this area would be nice, assuming it doesn’t take away development efforts of something even better.

Reasoning for 50% crit chance?

HK is not good as a grandmaster trait. Maybe as a Master it would see use in PvP, but it’s just terribly weak.

In fight you’ll be getting use out of hidden killer maybe 1 hit out of every 7 to 15 seconds. And that’s only if your crit wouldn’t have procced otherwise.

Then there’s Sigil of intelligence which offers 3 auto crit every 10 or 20 seconds depending on if you have 1 or 2. The pre condition on intelligence is also easier to execute.

On 1 stealth weapon set thief 1 sigil of intelligence provides more value than hidden killer. Even though hidden killer gives the crit to you at a more opportune time.

When a sigil is > a grandmaster trait I think it’s probably not worth running, unless you have a very niche scenario.

One HK proc every 7-15 seconds? What kind of build are you running? In fights I’m stabbing every four seconds if possible. I think that has to do with weapon sets and builds/styles more than HK. Permastealth D/P might bank on slow stabs, but aggro D/D will be pushing out as much damage as quickly as possible.

I think it’s pretty alright for a GM. My biggest issue is that GM traits in general come too slow. Stab thief by design is not an effective build until 80 just because it’s so dependent on HK. Sigil of intelligence is not more effective depending on HK’s use, and requires the thief to either make a mirror set which provides less combat utility, or blow a cooldown on swap and therefore be out of his stab damage for an extended period of time.

I cant imagine in what scenario D/D would be viable.

I Almost exclusively pvp and the set has little use in that mode.

I know not these leveling issues people speak of either as everything is unlocked in PvP except some traits.

Thoughts on double backstab

in Thief

Posted by: Shockwave.1230

Shockwave.1230

Theoretically, if ANet implemented something like a grandmaster trait to remove revealed, we could potentially chain two backstabs.

This thought has been interesting to me, because I’ve been wondering how it could be implemented in a balanced way, so that thieves couldn’t do two backstabs hitting so hard that they instantly two shot things, or so that that can’t chain 3 backstabs and quickly 3 shot things.

I personally feel it would be an interesting play that could be styled around so long as it has correct limits. Damage, frequency, vulnerabilities, etc.

Interesting. People feel like pvp failed because of the combat system requiring an extremely high level of awareness and game knowledge.

This makes me wonder if top GW2 pvp players could transition to any other game and pick it up rather quickly giving top players in other games a run for their money.

If this happens to be true, maybe Guild Wars 2 could be marketed as the varsity or pro level of esports.

One can dream, but other games pvp is just too boring to even try such a thing for me.

It’s not the only profession like this, but it’s definitely God tier when driven by competent players with good mechanics (which is required to make the initial statement true).

Tool Kit, grenade kit, and elixir S should be run by any engineer that knows what they’re doing. These 3 utilities offer everything anyone could ask for in PvP, except boon removal.

These three utilities are so effective that VeeWee is the only engi capable of running without them, because of frandliness levels being off the charts.

I disagree with preventing players from swapping to alts. This promotes players being multi-classers.

In tournaments, it’s banned mid match. But you can swap between rounds. In team queue you don’t know who you’re up against until you’re in match. So if you can’t swap, you can’t simulate a tournament scenario where you’d adjust your team comp on the fly.

You can be a multi class player, just make up your mind and what you want to run with your comp before you que, with what works best.

Countless

The competitive reason to be a multi-class player is to counter comp. You’re basically denying these people their competitive advantage.

In tournaments you can counter comp between rounds, no reason to make team queue out of sync with tournaments.

Now once a match starts, preventing people from swapping chars is in sync with tournament rules, so that change might make since to implement.

Why do people even care about queue ranks, solo or team? Why not just look at tournament matches to see how well players perform?

You can game both leader boards and people do.

For solo it’s Orb running builds on spirit watch, cc builds on skyhammer, far point tanks to draw 1v2s a whole match.

For team queue, it’s much harder to game, but you can queue during certain hours and go on long win streaks. You can also stop queueing when you know strong teams are playing that you aren’t set up to beat.

Then there’s the fact that people throw in both queues, by playing builds they want to experiment with, or in team queue by Yolo or duoing, or by playing with friends that just aren’t good at pvp.

Tl;Dr the boards will give you an idea of who’s towards the top tier, but when you’re talking about the top 30-40 conquest players it’s a wash if you’re just looking at the boards (as it’s not a good representation of what actually happens in tournaments) . Tournament matches provide better info on top players than the boards.

Well, deathmatch would be 2v2 or 3v3 if implemented correctly. One of the game’s biggest problems is its requirement for 5v5 is too much for a lot of people.

As an aside, if you know anything about how their private testing process works, you honestly shouldn’t trust that they have reliable polling. They basically ignore player feedback in private testing.

I think you’ve answered your own question. If a mode only supports teams of 2 or 3, why invest in that when the community hasn’t latched onto growing it when it’s already available in game. WvW GvG has more interest than 2 or 3 man arenas, there a whole community carrying it.

Fyi, I’ve been playing around with swapping hydromancy out. Air adds more damage over time and with the evades available is a bit like how S/D thief applies damage. I still like the chill though, but Air is definitely a strong alternative and you always have crippling on the dagger. The choice here comes down to playtsyle in my opinion. If you’re primarily using S/D to survive and gain range, stick with hydromancy. If you’re primarily swapping to survive and deal damage go with Air sigil.

I also found myself not always getting enough of a benefit out of the vigor after heal and since it’s only and extra 75% bonus to endurance swapping traits to reduce Entangle’s recharge to 48 seconds can be beneficial. I think if you’re expecting to be in a lot of team fights, go with the 48 second entangle.

If it takes 5 minutes to craft to level 10, that’s +25% time onto black lion keys. Which in theory could be transferred to the cost of black lion skins too. If true, then costs go from about 100 gold to 125 gold. But also there’s the cost of the craft leveling, which I would guess is probably 10-15 gold. So we’re probably looking at black lion ticket weapon items going up to 150 gold each if people are able to adopt key farming in accordance with this theory.

I just realized the increase in power from leveling up early on and having gear ready ahead of time could shave time off completing the personal story.

Unless, of course, the patch is changed between that play session and the patch tomorrow. It’s possible.

Which is awesome if it’s level 10! Because it’ll be that much easier!!!

Ahh…did not see that you edited your response. Might be better in the OP.

Warrior adren and thief stealth attacks

I at least believe that a thief should be revealed if you dodge their attack with an evade and only an evade. This requires legitimate skill since your two evades cannot be abused like weapon based evades, blocks, blinds, invulnerabilities.

In reality though I agree with the OP and the thief should be altered till it makes sense rather than having a large heap of exceptions for the class to even exist.

Just a thought, but maybe people play the class because they like it conceptually? Would you remove attunements from ele’s or Illusions from mesmers?

Wrong choice of words on my part. I don’t mean flip the thief upside down, but leaving thieves partially immune to chill because of initiative or being forced out of stealth because it is their main way to deal damage is all around bad design.

I wouldn’t remove attunements from ele/illusions from mesmers but if they could only exist by ignoring large portions of the game, you can bet I would alter them.

Chill not impacting thief weapon skills does not create a problem. Even if the thief ever became OP in the meta it will not be because chill doesn’t affect their weapon skills.

What you call bad design of stealth attacks is the actual design and playstyle of dagger builds. You just don’t like that it plays that way. Other people do.

Besides you don’t want someone like me or players better than I to be able to play a dagger build viably without having to properly backstab. That just means those of us that consistently land backstabs from behind would in fact be OP.

But you don’t need to be level 20? I’ll use the human commoner line as an example.

You play until you are level 10. This unlocks the personal story steps from On the Mend (3) to Commander (10). Once you finish Commander and have the key, nothing else is necessary.

Unless you’re saying that you somehow think you’ll need to be level 15+ to handle the level 10 personal story?

I’ve just confused you is all, I’ve read the chinese client has the Black Lion Key unlocked after completing the level 20 personal story.

But if it stays at level 10 after the feature pack tomorrow, then we don’t need to think about how to get up to level 20.

From what I understood from what the previewers said, the level 10 personal story still gives a key, but you only unlock the personal story at level 10. So you’d have to level to 10 and then start doing the 3-10 personal story to get the key :x

That was my impression too, which is why I was suggesting ways to quickly level to 10

Er, why do you say level 20 for the Chinese release, as well as suggest buying level 15+20 gear >_> + 15 level up tomes :x

That’s the information I’ve read is why. Could be wrong, haven’t played on the chinese servers.

You really didn’t read what I had said, did you…

Thought I suggested level 17 gear because you’d be level 2 then gain 15 levels to get to 17. So you’d need level 17 gear to play the level 1-10 personal story, then by the end you’d gain 3 levels and be level 20, so you could put on your level 20 gear

Edit

…and complete your level 20 personal story to get the key.

But that’s not necessary if it’s still obtained at level 10

It’s really obvious and should always be dodged, but there’s really no reason stun-breakers shouldn’t work on it. It’s an obvious bug that the developers seem to have turned into a feature. Then again, the developers probably have no idea that stun-breakers don’t work on it, considering their track record.

o.o much faith

So basically all crafting professions will be more expensive for the lower levels.

Which means all crafting material prices for lower level gear goes up, which means all loot from lower level zones goes up in value too. So basically new players would be able to sell their stuff on the trading post for more in the end, and higher level stuff would likely stay the same price, therefore it’d be a more level playing field economically for new players.
