some pet attacks have lunges, but they typically have long windups so tend to miss anyway :|
Nah. It executes pretty quick, and it has a slight dash element to it. People who are simply strafing arn’t fast enough to avoid it. It’s true it’s hard to hit runners with it. I find using the cripple-throw (from #4) makes it a lot easier to land on runners.
Actually, EvE has a much more complex system than you guys are saying, taking into account transversals, turret rotation speeds, explosion velocities, and many other things that you probably aren’t aware of. For example, it is possible for a small frigate or even a cruiser to outrun an explosion from a missile by traveling faster than the explosion velocity. Missiles “never miss” in eve, but it is possible to outrun them during the flight time and/or “dodge” the explosion.
These things are really, really easy to calculate compared to collision. EVE also runs at 1 Hertz, which is not the case in GW2. EVE is just really easy on the servers compared to GW2. EVE’s main problem was their server architecture, they allocated few resources to any one zero zero system because they were largely empty. Suddenly battle and the relatively paltry resources were massively overtaxed. IIRC they finally implemented a system where they could allocate resources more dynamically+time dilation to fix problem.
yes – that is a very minor advantage compared to being non-80 and/or non-exotic right now.
oh come on guys
did you all avoid wvw until you were level 80 and fully exotic’d or something?
I really doubt it. And the advantage a level 80 exotic has over a non-80 is far more extreme than anything ascended weapons will bring to the table.
you’re right its a minor imbalance but not a big deal either way tbh
i expect ascended rangers to be pretty intense
purely from badges would be nonsense anyway
pretty sure they want to focus on rolling out the ascended crafting system.
I doubt theyd put the ascended weapons available w/ badges, unless they also put them on the laurel store.
maybe turning badges into t7 mats?
do you really want EB queued by people who are arranging noncompetitive mutual slaughters simply so they can farm
They don’t do jumping puzzles because the incentives suck.
Bet there will be no chance EVER of getting ascended weapons via playing WvW.
Um, crafting?
Would love a trait that applied Chill to enemies that impacted or crossed wards.
story writing for a game is actually pretty challenging, since the writer will have to work closely with the designers to create compelling, achievable gameplay. Or the designers will want the writers to create a story based around a gameplay idea they are working on.
Still, it couldn’t hurt. Would love to see lore books in game ala Elder Scrolls.
They’re obv still testing the borderlands changes, they didn’t even have a map graphic for it yet.
it’s true though, time for another week of low populations on Sorrow’s Furnace
I’m pretty sure it’s not a networking problem. Skill lag looks to be server chug to me. I believe Anet has cited the exponential increase in cpu demands from enough people/skills going off in one place. Improved server hardware can help, but possibly only marginally, depending on the nature of the problem. The nature of the chokepoint and how it could be addressed are impossible to determine from the outside.
what invigorating gameplay thieves bring us, where you have to camp a corpse with at least two guys for however long the corpse decides to stay
Oh please what are the 1v1 and GvG scenes other than Honorable Combat?
Tequatl is awful.
Did you know the megalaser fires even if its destroyed?
Claw of Jormag is the only cool dragon. (hurrr).
Would love way more variety in the dragon fights themselves, way more dragon fights, increased difficulty, better scaling….
Claw of Jormag needs the spot where people mindlessly charzooka the ice wall removed. And/or needs to give a purpose to fighting the ice elementals, because srsly no point.
Shatterer …needs to be less autoattack for veektory. I would suggest giving him protection that only the cannon turrets can break. And if he kills a player or NPC, that player/NPC Brands, creating a NPC version
kitten what can you even do about Tequatl. I’ve got nothing.
Personally I felt Logan didn’t come off badly in Queen’s Jubilee or Clockwork Chaos.
Logan’s reaction to the Rytlock-knight was believable whether it was pre- or post-personal story. The only reason it looks pre-personal story is Rytlock’s dialogue which is irrelevant for obv. reasons.
The living story really hasn’t been going long enough to lodge this complaint, imo. Though it’s interesting to note.
Honestly I have no problem with stability stomps. They’re hard to stop, but the person stomping will still take damage and stability isn’t that easy to get. And if you try to be too balls out when stability stomping you’ll get downed yourself.
Invulnerability stomping is problematic though, and in some cases nonsensical (like elixir s.)
Now on top of that I gotta deal with your pal trying to revive you/kill me when I try to stomp. It’s not impossible but there is already a LOT in favor of the greater numbers… why add more to that?
TBH if you have any chance of winning the 2v1 in the first place, it’s just as likely that the other player will get their fool self killed trying to rez. :P
symbol of swiftness with 50% boon duration grants 12s of swiftness
two handed weapon mastery —> 12s cooldown on symbol of swiftness
however if you are running with a group you should be getting swiftness from their AOEs
Even 2 players running together with aoe swiftness can rotate their buffs for perma swift
The no prefix ones. These wern’t changed, they’ve always been this way. They never spawn directly, they’re always created by 2 Veteran Twisted Horrors merging.
(Veteran Twisted Horrors can spawn directly, or can be created by 2 Twisted Horrors merging.)
but all it does in that case is delay things it makes no difference
one time in ten a warrior last stand might make a difference but otherwise? no.
and honestly 1v1s are pretty rare in WvW anyway.
Only way your downed skills would have helped you win is if the stomper had been a really, really bad player.
Not so. Whether or not downed skills help you is completely dependent on the stomper’s hp, the class of the downed player, and whether or not the stomper is using one of aforementioned skills to make the stomp. It’s fair to point a finger at stealth stomps because thieves commit virtually no resource to conduct said stomp, whereas most classes at least commit a CD.
Downed skills arn’t intended to ‘win’ anyway, theyre intended to delay while someone helps you up. Or to buy time/finish off a wounded enemy for a rally.
“You were downed, you lost” only makes sense in the context of 1v1 fights.
Oh, and the flamethrowers on non-champion (maybe even non-veteran?) Nightmares seem out of whack, I swear they hurt more on the basic ones.
Those nightmares are actually Lieutenant-grade, like dungeon enemies. You can tell by the silver circle.
except thats utter nonsense,
if you’ve lost already then stealth/etc. stomping is pointless
it only makes a difference if you havent lost already
Also how can you refund everyone’s karma after not giving notice on boosts no longer applying, yet you cannot create more tiers for the WvW achievements and give players more AP for those tiers? Doesnt make sense.
it’s a database thing. Note:This is based on general knowledge, not specific knowledge of Anets system.
Karma is a box in a database, and another database tracks when and where karma is added to that database. so Arenanet can set up a query that will automatically determine who it was that used their karma jugs under the new system and how much karma they earned, and change the karma #s/ give them jugs in compensation. They never touch the database itself.
Changing achievements is different. The databases are interconnected and expect to get some data when they poll the WvW achievements. Changing the achievements entails changing the database, which has the potential for minor errors causing major problems. Basically, it’s possible, it’s just a lot of work. They also probably want to do a statistical study on just how many cheevo points hardcore WvWers would earn overnight if the game were switched to realistic WvW achievements.
Once AC’s are forced to deploy in more vulnerable spots in order to be used, they won’t dominate so badly compared to other options for defending a fortification.
ACs would be useless then, except for the singular task of firing arrows at the gate, which only works because they’re still breaking los.
People manning siege are immobile, without active defenses or healing, they will usually lose to people throwing AOEs. Part of the point of ACs is to give defenders SOMETHING they can do to harass a big attack force. Any change to AC needs to keep this in mind.
I put ballistas on the edge of tower walls all the time, and half the time they get destroyed without anyone ever manning them. Another quarter of the time they get off a shot or two before mass AOE renders them unuseable, and the other quarter of the time they are marginally effective.
ACs would probably be even worse off.
EDIT:
what if ACs worked like mortars but were even deadlier?
(edited by Shoe.5821)
PS : as many have said, if you’re downed, consider yourself dead. ;-)
what is with this sentiment?
it’s totally counter to how this game works
downed is not dead
that’s the point of downed
EDIT:
Furthermore, the entire point of stealth/etc. stomping is to be able to stomp people in situations where instead that person would otherwise be able to get back up. Which is kind of a big deal, especially in wvw roamer fights.

Let’s not forget that vendoring all those greens increases the cash supply. It’s not a lot per person — I probably make no more than 30-50 silver per invasion from green vendoring. However, how many people are selling them?
presumably this is one reason theyre adding reasons to salvage blues and greens
don’t join the zergs, there’s plenty of events on the map
couldnt faction a and b just go to faction c’s borderlands where faction c owns the the buff for gvg
okay i can deffo report they arnt broken on guardians right now
I farm champs, and I get on average 30-40 bags per event. And I consider myself pretty good at tagging. So I have a hard time buying that you’re pulling off 30 bags without any inclination to farm. At most, I make 5 gold per invasion event, still less than I made from CoF speed runs.
this is typical of what i get
4 twisted champions
2 molten shamans
3 pirate captains
10 pirate champions
5 scarlet boxes
so thats at least 25 right there
lol you should have seen them before then xD
stiff breeze would kill them
IMO Striker stun is fine, it just means that you need stability if you insist on being in the thick of things. if you don’t, stick to the outside of the fighting.
They did buff the tunnel at some point but yeah molten are a little easy.
The shamans should increase the molten strength bar if they time out and the tunneling machines should have some mechanic that requires you to burn through the minions.
if you’ve already done the event today in that map it should still give you the popup
it just only has 1 twisted scrap instead of anything worthwhile
Saying you raised 40 gold doesn’t mean anything in and of itself
How you raised 40 gold matters more
If you got 35 gold of drops and mats and 5 gold of money then there’s only a minimal expansion in the money supply because the drops actually take money out of the economy via the TP fees.
It’s also the case you cant look at any one good or even a small group of goods and say well there’s your inflation, you have to look at the overall economy. While some things may be going up in price others are certainly going down. A lot of exotic drops are going down, rares seem down. These invasions are probably also bringing down the prices on a lot of midrange crafting materials since they are in a wide range of zones – one problem in the market has been that many mid tier crafting materials are very expensive compared to end tier because a lot more end tier crafting materials are floating around.
//just checked Cotton Scraps – the daily supply is tripled compared to its crazy lows during the past month and the price is down accordingly.
a couple of days of wasted supply is no big deal
yeah the kick makes deadeye really hard now.
Don’t go crowd favorite on a guardian, its asking for trouble. You could try the scepter but i would recommend against it since it severely limits your defence vs killshots. The best way is to load up on a very high damage build so you can kill him as fast as possible. The Deadeye farming builds will still work.
Basically you want the Right Hand Strength grandmaster trait(radiance i think?), and the Unscathed Contender adept trait (virtues). Also Fiery Wrath (zeal adept iirc). the rest is up to you. Use (ideally berserkers) Sword/Focus, Staff, WoR, Judge’s, Save Yourselves. Trigger the ringmaster, then use Staff 4. When you enter the arena mash SY, Judges, WoR. Immediately use Sword 3 and Focus 5 after teleporting. If he uses Killshot use Virtue of Justice for the blind. Immediately chase after him with Sword 2 after his first teleport.
You look Norn so your racial elites wont help, but if you have the Mistfire Wolf it works pretty well in that fight. (Summon it before triggering the ringmaster, then trigger ringmaster, then use Staff 4.)
Sigil of Bloodlust and appropriate food will help a lot too.
The only thing you can really do about the kick atm is more blinds and try to position yourself so he wont kick you into a mine.
The Thug’s warbanner is broken for some reason, it’ll one shot you. there’s something bugged with its scaling.
> world ranks should grant titles
Which I think is really one of the biggest problem with the current ranks. When you see a title like Sergeant, Corporal, Colonel or even a lower ranked Private you know it means something, it holds weight. Ranks such as Raider, Veteran, Champion just seem like stereotypical MMO words tacked on that don’t have actual meaning or weight.
well, i wasn’t suggesting specific names so much as the approach.
I was purposefuly trying to keep an ‘enlisted vs officer’ feel for low ranks vs metallic ranks while trying to keep feudal/fantasy rather than military. But that comes down to taste.
‘raider’ ‘veteran’ ‘champion’ actually have a lot of relevance to feudally themed armies imo. Or even renaissance themed.
the problem with that system is that probably the majority of characters in wvw are below rank 40 and would never be anything other than a recruit.
taking forever to be anything other than a recruit would kinda suck
personally i would go with a slightly nonlinear system. Non-metallic and metallic ranks would have their own completely different title sets. Also we can do away entirely with chump names like Recruit.
0 Aspirant
5 Raider
10 Skirmisher
15 Invader
20 Footman
30 Warrior
40 Assaulter
50 Sergeant
60 Bronze Knight
etcetc
Bronze Champion
etcetc
Bronze Legend
Ahem.
“Submit profession bugs to the game bugs forum.”
just sayin
What broken mechanic?
You realize the orb mechanic will work completely differently now, right?
Shorter Duration would make the Runes useless, you could get by with Less Stacks, but the stacks aren’t he problem, the lack of an ICD that is.
Nonsense. Even 5 second duration would be a serious nerf but would hardly make the runes useless. 5 seconds is more than enough time for people to be taking actions, even on long duration interrupts like Banish or the warrior mace stun. Condi builds often include +duration in any case, and the Perplexity runes have a +duration in them (in theory – i know it’s broken.)
Another way to look at it: High stacks with low duration = high skill cap when it comes to confusion. The best time to use it is just before the enemy initiates a combo. Conversely, low stacks with high duration just means you spam spam spam to get best results.
I think one of the problems with Mesmer confusion is that many of their confusion skills are awkward to use. Or slow. Or both. So mesmers basically have to use them when they have the chance rather than when would be the best time. In contrast, interrupts tend to be fast and easy to use and are ideally suited to being used during enemy skill bursts.
(edited by Shoe.5821)
All other points aside, it’s really a shame that gambits are pointless now.
I can’t buy anything from the gemstore, altough I want flutes and kites and black lion keys, but I simply don’t have the money for it. If it was 1g for 100 gems, I could afford that. But it’s not.
If gems wern’t expensive in effort terms noone would pay real money for them ;p
I think this is touching on another issue entirely, but you make a good point. I just argue that no one wants to spend 3+ hours sieging a keep, methodically killing enemy siege, cutting off supply
the only time i see a long siege with few fights its because the defenders are badly outnumbered and know they will just be squashed. thats why they’re hiding in the keep to begin with.
they’re not. they’re improving WvW, which was always intended to have an orb mechanic in any case.
why should people who don’t gvg- and probably a lot of people who do – accept Anet scrapping or changing their plans in favor of the unoffical GVG scene (which has other options anyway).
