i am quitting thief and I might quit the game too because i have no motivation to play this game !!
I have started this game 4 months ago, I have started it off with a thief and I really enjoy my class. I have a complete ascended set for my thief. I will be really disappointed if they nerf zerker build. I am sick and tired of this thief nerf.
I did spent a lot of time and effort to make my ascended gears. If it is a huge thief nerf then I will have to say good bye to gw2.
I don’t want to come here and fight with these developers every day. I would rather look for some other game, which I can enjoy.

I am genuinely curious why players (and it’s not just in this game, mind you) get so worked up about things that really don’t have to impact them in the slightest. If you don’t like the “VIP Status”… don’t buy it, and your game experience doesn’t change.
I’d understand the anger if it did (like if it took away something you previously had unless you paid in), but I don’t see how this, as its presented would. It’s much ado about what amounts to nothing.

Don´t know nothing about warrior´s rifle, but i can tell you about p/p, is not useless if traited, what’s more, could be very usefull and fun wen traited. But that is the problem, you most take some traits exclusive for pistols wen leaving some that could be better at overall, which make it a bad trade.
Also, p/p is the most expensive weapom set of the thieve in terms of iniciative and give too little in exchage fro that cost.
And finaly, the auto attack is two weak, which is really stupid wen you realize than this wepon set high iniciative cost make you be stuck with its auto attack very often.My suggestions:
1- Make vital shoot (the auto attack) shoot two bullets instead of one.
2- Reduce Body Shoot iniciative cost by 1.
3- Unload could have a bonus to damage based in the numbers of bleeds the traget(s) has (like 0.5% mor damage per bleed), so it take some better sinergy with Vital Shoot/Sneak Attack.
4- Give to all pistols skills some boost damage between 2 and 3% and reduce the bonus of Pistol Mastery trait from 10% down to 5% to compensate for this.Don´t thing this ideas could fix p/p but some can give us better and fun moment with this weapon set whithoud the need of trait the set. Hope this give some inspiration to someone in anet at least.
Great ideas. I think the problem with thief’s when it comes to pistol is what you described. You need to trait heavily into the pistol to maximize its effectiveness. Should there be no traits for the pistol? Surely not, but they shouldn’t be a requirement to use them well. I think a general damage buff is in order. Extra damage on bleeding is a good idea, much like a minor trait for 25 points in the Arms tree for warriors (though I don’t think thief’s should have such a trait for so large an investment, maybe 15 points?). All speculation but necessary should these ideas ever get out into the public. Thank you for taking your time too speak you mind. Much appreciated.

Why are you guys spending so much time talking about making changes ? !! They will never give us what we want and they are not going to spend time reading each thread we make.
They will never take any suggestions from us. All they do is have some random people test the game and make changes according to that!!

Ehh, most other classes don’t have very good downed abilities either, but it also depends on the situation. Thieves have a terrible #2 ability against other thieves for example, the second you teleport they use infiltrator signet to shadowstep back to you and complete the stomp. In pve thieves #1 attack does very little damage but it bounces which can be good or bad depending on who is near you and how low hp the targets are.
But as you described, the #2 and #3 skills on most classes are designed to either stop a stomp or make yourself revive faster(ranger and guardian mostly), not just thief. In pve though, thief’s 2 and 3 abilities are pretty underwhelming compared to things like rangers or guardians that if you’re just fighting one mob can basically net you a free revive.
So to sum up, thief’s downed abilities are ok for pvp, terribly designed for pve.
3 is a joke i mean really ? what am i gonna do with a 1 sec stealth when i am down ?

Unload needs to cost 1 less initiative so that P/P builds can keep up their only real source of damage without spending all traits just for that
OR it needs to do slightly more damage, so that the sacrifices it takes to keep using it are justified
OR do the same damage but over a shorter time frame, so that it’s more bursty

Since you are nerfing opportunist why dont you think about giving us regain full initiative on weapon swap during combat. Since other class can swap weapons during their main weapon cool downs.

Healing signet needs NO NERF , don’t listen to the whiner . Warrior has no sustain outside of high regen . Those hammer dmg nodes nerf are perfect . But im dissapointed about thief changes honestly , S\D is the only viable build anet
The change to initiative regain baseline is a huge buff to ALL thief builds, so don’t jump so early to those conclusions!
It does nothing to P/P build and i really hope you do something about it.

There has been nothing but absolute skepticism like how IR is being abused for stomping or initiative overhaul is a masssssive buff.
B) What sort of buffs do you have intended for thieves that will improve the meta? None (that I can see).
Buffs that does “something”.
- Is there EVEN one this patch???
Questionable buffs (meaning it’s probably useless).
- Initiative Overhaul. Maybe, maybe not. Some forum users already pointed out critical trait users will get a nerf, not a buff. Nothing else to note other than some obscure trait line users may stand to benefit.
- Pistol whip separation. Who know is it will work. Only testable under live patch.
- Critical Haste. As long as there’s an ICD, this thing is considered as RNG. I will be surprised if someone wants to use it. Other than spamming auto attacks, I’m not sure how anyone can take advantage of this.
- Practiced Tolerance. Nothing that impacts the thieves survivability. Our main survival skill set is through stealth and dodging.
Acrobatics IV – Assassin’s Retreat. Increased swiftness duration to 20s. I have no idea if this trait is even useful compared to picking vigorous recovery.
Useless changes -
Acrobatics IX – Quick Recovery. Nerfing it to be as worse than opportunist as a master skill without any buffs. If you spent the same amount of time buffing thieves traits instead of wasting time to defend IR’s and how “buffed” our thieves are going to be next patch, we might be inclined to believe you and your patch.
Acrobatics X – Assassins Reward. Heals for 100 HP per initiative spent (after buff). Only 3 times lousier than Shadow’s rejuvenation.
Acrobatics XI – Hard to catch. Whatever. Someone already even wrote an acronym for it (garbage).
Trickery 5 – Kleptomaniac. Nerf
Trickery VII – Bountiful Theft. NerfC) Nerfs discussion
- Majority hates IR change.
- Quite a few players thinks initiative overhaul doesn’t change anything to meta gameplay, no it’s not the most controversial change, it’s the IR and 50% vigor nerf.
- Our survivability is into the toilet.
- Many thieves expressing time to reroll statement.
- Quite a number of us thinks you devs don’t know what you’re talking about with IR “stomping issues” and initiative overhaul = massive buff.D) Personal opinion
- Why are you wasting our time? This patch is anti-thief. It comes with a nerf bat with utterly no buffs that will really lead us to diverse builds (because TRAITS/weapon sets are the ones doing that, not initiative overhaul) or even meta changing things.
Also we are trying to improve the survivability of thieves in the Acrobatics line through easier access to the Hard to Catch trait and increased effectiveness of the Assassin’s Reward trait.
- Grandmaster trait assassin’s reward VS Warrior’s master trait Adrenal health (100 HP/Second 1 second init recovery vs 133HP/second at T3 adrenaline).
Warrior skull crack vs Basilisk venom. What excuses do you have for for a 3 seconds stun for a 10 seconds cooldown vs 1.5 seconds stun for 45 seconds cooldown and has a 1 second casting time?
- Moving around of traits, but it’s a time waster. Why are you trying to move traits that don’t change meta gameplay? Waste of effort and time. If you bothered making real changes with buffs to it we can discuss things.
PS: I just want to ask, are you devs really trying to help us thieves? Or nerf us because of forum pressure? It doesn’t help when you tell us you got limited resources to “balance” things especially when you understand so little about thieves.

“all thief specs got massive buffs”. Yea, I guess a level 1 thief is now 25% stronger with any weapon.
Sword auto hits 3 targets. Pistol whip hits 3 targets 7 times plus initial strike.
Pistol shot with auto ricochet hits up to four targets. Unload with ricochet hits up to 15 targets.
Considering 100% crit rate on pistol whip/unload is not a problem at all, wan’t me to point out the loss?
Before (unload):
Base regen: 0.75/second
Average opportunist regen: (5(ricochets per unload average) plus 8 hits over)x4 = 52 crits in 7 seconds. 7.42 crits per second. 1-(1-0.3)^7.42 = 93% chance to get 1 initiative EVERY second.
Total regen: 0.75 plus 0.93*1= 1.68 initiative/second (average).
After (unload):
Base regen: 1/second
Opportunist: 0.2/second
Total regen: 1.2/second.
Summary: 30% nerf to P/P, the weakest thief spec.

Sorry to say this.
Because last time I commented about my passion for this class, I feel I was left with crickets and unsupported.
Its actually nice to hear that they are trending to see thieves have more diversity instead of being pigeonholed as a crit hitter.
However, its going to need alot more changes to bring me back to thief. They are just not viable to me in WVW. I dont really do SPVP. But will say this, you cant balance classes via SPVP in regards to WVW.
Consider this. My new class is a warrior. I have better armor, further range, just as much dps and crit if not more, more vitality and toughness. And the trade, cooldowns and a stealth component that actually can be a benefit or a consequence.
I still say All Shortbow users need some love, Pistol/Pistol needs love, Sword needs love, even Dagger/Dagger needs some reworking.
The thief is a class that requires reworking for it to be brought on par in WVW (doesnt matter if you dont agree, its my opinion and I will stick to the warrior as long as thief cobtinues its trend of being subpar in terms of diversity and no real practical purpose in WVW)

Still waiting for host of other things thieves need, such as bug fixes, and main-hand pistol users brought up into line with other weapon sets, strength-wise.
I really don’t expect a lot regarding the things being changed Dec. 10. Anet is going to nerf/change what they want changed, regardless of suggestions/comments/concerns of those playing thieves.
This is about the first time I’ve ever seen an Anet employee actually explain their reasoning, but it’s like asking which is better, Herpes or Syphilis. Does is really matter?
I really don’t understand why don’t Anet listen to the community who knows better about the class.
Not to mention that was the trait that made P/P bearable. Coupled with the nerf to quick recovery I might never use my pistols again.

From wvw player:
1. need more shortbow range, standing on top of the tower cant even hit anyone below.
2. hard to catch is not useful when most of the time it just teleport ppl into the zerg.
3. thief have no useful utility for zerg fight other than use shortbow from range.
4. pet timers are too long and most of them are useless.

Increased the base rate of initiative gain from .75/second to 1/second.
Trickery 5 – Kleptomaniac. Reduce initiative gain from 3 to 2.
