Wouldn’t it be comical if Ascended item armor pieces don’t have rune slots so the stats are out classed by exotic with runes. Would make sense no?
Infusion slots in every piece.
I came to the same conclusion. Now i’m just watching how far the doom and gloom train can go. Best part is it was one ring to rule them all.
Then why would they even have Ascended items in the first place? To bridge the gap between rares and exotics I suppose.
Here’s how i see it, might not be true, might not be perfect, but it’s a better guess than jumping on the bandwagon.
If there are no rune slots in the ascended gear and if the ascended gear had the same exact stats as exotics then the new gear would be inferior because of the lack of runes and sigils. So the stats appear higher to make up for the loss of runes.
Also it is probably a lot easier to create maybe 32 or 48 armor pieces then go through every single dungeon, wvw, karma, and crafted piece to change them all. Plus creates new gear which is 2 birds with a funny shaped stone.
Edit: but lets wait and see what happens for now, i’m getting pumped up and getting ready for this content.

@silentstorm I’ll be ready for what ever challenge Anet throws at me. Since i have some faith in them.

Well ladies and gents i have an idea as to how this is going to work in the future. Keep in mind this is an educated guess as to how the new gear will work without breaking the manifesto. First lets preface a bit.
Exotics are every where, they are in dungeons, wvw, the trading post, and from karma. To go and change all the stats for all exotics to work with the new agony mechanic would mean changing well over 400 armor pieces. In other words a programmer’s nightmare. So it is easier to add a new set and balance it to the current system.
Now before we look at numbers and dive in deeper, lets start with what we know about the orichalcum ring made with opal compared to the yakkington ring. Just looking at the slots we notice that the yakkington ring has a different slot(which i will dub the agony slot) not an upgrade slot. The new agony condition is made for dungeons. Meaning this new mechanic will not be introduced into PvP(hopefully).
Now lets get to the numbers, let’s go back to our ring example. The yakkington ring has better base stats than the opal ring by 5 power, 5 precision, and 3% magic find. The kicker is there is no gear treadmill difference between the two. Yes they are both equal. Now you may say “but 5 is clearly more than what the current exotic value is.” But instead of looking at the small picture lets look at the big one.
IF the ascended gear only accepts the agony slot and no other runes and sigils. Unless the base stats are higher to accommodate the exotic values, then the true value of the ascended gear would be less valuable than exotics. So lets dig into the math, assuming the values stay constant for the example we will use rune of the soldier for an example and compare to the hypothetically ascended values.
Superior rune of the soldier bonuses are
1set: +25 vitality
2set: +15 toughness
3set: +50 vitality
4set: +35 toughness
5set: +90 vitality
6set: shouts remove a condition.
total gained: 165 vitality, 50 toughness. remove condition.
Now i suspect since the rings were slightly buffed that the armor and weapons will be slightly changed to make up for the missing stats of 165 vitality, 50 toughness, and remove a condition.
This means that just because ascended stats are higher does not make exotics useless or dungeons useless.
Now There are potential problems with the new system, since no system is perfect. Rings, back piece, and earrings only get a jewel piece to go inside of them. Yet the ascended rings are there to balance the big problem. The big problem is what if someone goes to wvw with just the ascended rings and keeps his runed exotics on. The problem i am getting at is mixing the two system can lead to an imbalance among players. Here is my solution:
Step 1: Divide and conquer: as we saw from the last paragraph mixing sets can lead to an imbalance. Therefore Ascended jewelry must be balanced with orichalcum jewelry. Ascended armor must be balanced for runed exotics. Ascended weapons should be balanced with exotics and legendaries. This way you can’t cheat the system and the paranoia is solved.
Step 2: Choosing wisely: Some runes like superior rune of divinity may cause a balancing issue with the new sets. Take it slowly anet, and inform the player base better about what you are doing. You are in your own bracket of gaming and no one can touch that. Not even the game that shall not be named. Nor will you become its clone.
Step 3: Thank Tyria for me
For hopefully clarifying the situation for everyone. There will be no treadmill, and there will be no over-reacting to a lack of information provided by anet. When in doubt do as the moas do, squawk and look adorable.
TL;DR: The ascended gear will have higher stats to make up for the lack of runes and sigils an exotic can provide.

Because maybe it’s easier to create new armor/ jewelry with some slight differences than go through all the previous armor files and change those? Seriously if they didn’t do something slightly new lots of people would complain. I will cry foul if a real gear treadmill starts, but 5 stats is nothing. It just shows a small sign that “hey we’d like you to try for something new and there’s a tiny incentive in it.” Also nothing is trivialized, what if the ascended items only have maybe 1 or 2 set stats that someone else might want differently. Say if it only offered a better knights and carrion, but someone wants berserker. We don’t have enough information to be boo hooing over new stuff yet. Lets just wait and see what happens then change the bad stuff if it goes wrong. Anet reads feedback.
Edit: heck it’s only jewelry so far, the only people “hurt” by this would be jewelers, since you can’t get dungeon jewelry(other than rare drop). So wait, you’re honestly trying to tell me that it’s easier to create and balance brand new items, including the art assets, rather than just adding an additional slot to an existing item?
Right now it’s only jewelery and back slots but they do plan to release new items for all slots. Going by their blog post, they intent to continue with gear progression which is basically a fancy way of saying “gear treadmill.”
lets see, recreate a slot for every exotic from dungeons, wvw, karma vendors, and crafted stuff. Or make maybe 1 or 2 sets. Would be a lot easier and still serves as new content. Again we don’t have enough information to support your gear trend slippery slope fallacy. It may only affect dungeons and it might not even touch wvw. All i’m saying is wait and see what happens. It’s like how everyone was pissed at Anet for doing the first one time thing in lions arch for the mad king and it was a cut scene for 10-30 seconds. Might not even be that different.
from the front page there’s only a 5 stat difference per stat and 3% magic find(for those two rings). Not much of a gear treadmill. I’d be worried a bit if it was 3% crit damage on increase, But this seems harmless.
Why add a new item tier at all then if it’s so negligible? Why not just add infusion slots to current exotics and legendaries and call it a day?
They are switching the design of the game to be driven by gear progression and they needed to start somewhere. Obviously the first stat increase is going to be small otherwise it’ll trivialize the current content. Eventually, though, if they continue with gear progression, the current content will become pointless.

from what it looks like anet created their own pump and dump. :p
sadly we don’t know how much of a change in drop rate it was.
i recommend using this as a substitute in the mean time.

I’d really kill for some different variety on these gw2 maps. I came from warhammer and man i am missing all of those old scenarios. I love that gw2 has better class balance, but i need something different than a 3 flag cap map with pve in the corners. Give me a 5v5 arena(blood bowl) with 3 rounds or something.
love this tool, 10/10 will use in the future.
No insults intended either, i’m just saying that because you have been constantly saying “what part don’t you get” that means to me that you did not understand me and now you do.
Oh yes i do have a spare 5 gold on me at all times, but even if i’m a minority in this game I still have a different opinion to the game. I thought the whole point of an mmo was to have fun. Not play dress up(unless you find dress up fun, no insults intended). But i find that playing the tp game in an mmo is missing out on the whole interact with different individuals and have fun together aspect of an mmo(again unless you find staring at the tp fun, no insults intended).
Therefore my reasoning that handing out gold for just monthly achievements would lessen the effect of needing to grind money for something and might promote a more carefree environment. But knowing the tp and greed that could possibly never be the case. But your opinion on what is fun is completely subjective. If you arent having fun then whats the point in playing right?
May I ask what level you are btw? It just seems like youre still in the leveling phase, whereas a lot of people are past that, and besides WvW and sPvP, the only thing that (most, as Im sure there are others like me who do enjoy going back into starter zones and having fun helping others) people want to do is work towards cooler looking gear, and this is what they find fun. And yes, I do find playing the market fun, it adds an exciting element to the game where it is possible to lose, rather than normal PVE which is in my opinion way too forgiving.
Most players will never lose that drive to look cooler than everyone else no matter how carefree you promote the game or how much gold is injected into the world, Thats how MMO’s work and have always worked.
I have an 80 guardian, had one like 3 weeks after launch and did the “soul searching” for fun. I find dungeons to be really fun for me and always have. I love being challenged skillfully(or doing dungeons topless to add more challenge or figuring out how i can break anet’s boss designs.
). The thing is i am having some fun with dungeons, but i’m really wanting some dungeon updates for more fun(or some lfg system so i can stop spamming map chat for some obscure dungeon run).
I’ve tried WvW stuff, and it feels too much like zerging(occasionally fun, but not constantly for me), SPvP is too boring with bunker builds and the maps lack diversity(by diversity i mean map style, all the maps are just 3 flag caps with some pve in a corner). I find the whole market stuff not fun for me. So i guess i’m a little apathetic towards the tp game. Again i am the minority since i’ve gotten past the whole “what looks cool” drive and settled for what i have(since there are hardly any stat differences). It’s been fun chatting, but i will now go run around topless shouting random things and finding CM and arah runs for the dungeon master title. have a nice day.
Sorry i read that completely wrong, but no. You do not know me as a person. I do not care for all the skins or any armor or weapons or the bltp for that matter. I want to have fun playing the game(imagine that one). I could care less for the whole legendary system or the cool skins or this i want/need this stuff. I just want dungeons to suck less so i can have more fun. Adding more money to my wallet makes me worry less about the current npc prices and i could go do whatever i want. Heck more money means i go die freely in wvwvw and not care at all.
First, nowhere in my post did I insult you as a person, if you took it that way then I am sorry, that was not my intention.
Second, You are part of a huge minority in this game that doesnt care about skins and as such, There is no way that Anet can accommodate you because it would cause the markets to go completely out of whack for everyone else. I feel that if you really dont care about skins and such, then you should be easily making enough money to account for any fees you might have from repairing and waypointing just by playing the game as you said.
No insults intended either, i’m just saying that because you have been constantly saying “what part don’t you get” that means to me that you did not understand me and now you do.

Yes i would have to worry IF i did anything different, but if i didn’t i’d have no problems. I get the logic you apparently do not. :p
Plus you are assuming anet npc prices, repairs, and waypoints increase. Where those have remained static since the start of the game regardless of what the value of a gold is. The only place the gold value applies is in the bltp.Actually you are completely wrong. I assumed that the waypoints, repairs and npc prices would remain exactly the same. This would make it so that this would be the only place that gold would not be affected. Everything else would rise in price, making that extra gold you make useless unless you stick to only waypoints etc.
Do you get it now?

The funny part is everything is optional/collectible in this game(because of horizontal progression). Why wouldn’t i collect money to simply collect money? I could acquire wealth over time, but i’d never have to worry about ever being broke.
Except you would have to worry about being broke if you ever wanted to do anything besides buy npc items, repair your armor and use waypoints. Everything else would skyrocket in price. What are you not getting here? =P

That would be lovely, then i could play the game with less worries, but 30g for a monthly might be too high, 15g would be perfect for anything. Problem i see is the game would become way too casual even if prices rise on the AH. Any monetary challenges would be kinda void, but it would help those who only get to play maybe 1-2 hrs a day. Sadly it kinda sounds like welfare and if you get money for practically little work you become lazy. Maybe instead of the daily giving gold the monthly passes you 10-15g then it would be a bit better. Call it a monthly check.
Lol, what would you spend all that extra money you got on? Everything worthwhile would skyrocket in price relative to how much gold is received, leaving people in the exact same position as before, just with a bigger load of cash in their pockets.

Please implement a lfg tool. I’d rather do a bad dungeon run then stare at LA all day spamming map chat for a group. if not an lfg tool. Heck make a Tyria exploration society map where anyone(all servers probably with a room or overflow) can go in and find a group for a dungeon.
Forget the elder dragons. I’m totally voting for the Mad King(probably 3rd party right here)! He lets us eat candy!
you could do it slightly faster at 80, but it will still take time. Just have fun with it, best way to pass the time imo.
So i kinda got bored with going for the whole legendary precursor stuff, so i put it off for a while. I went on a drunken dye spree buying 10-20 dyes at a time. Spending maybe 3-5 gold per day for maybe 5 days(sent all my extra dyes to friends). Finally got abyss through the rng, bought celestial. Then realized the chances of getting my missing dyes were going to take forever through dye rng, so i bought the last 40 for 1-2 gold. Fun stuff, now to collect all da minis.
Edit: added pics. for fun, and my terrible color coordination.
(edited by Shuguard.7125)
I’d still love more dye options like for weapons and possible a change of underwear color. Eww only yellow and blue.
So i managed to collect all 403 dyes. Sadly there’s no achievement(i would love one personally) and I still can’t color coordinate.
starter: 21
common: 181
uncommon: 119
rare: 82
total dyes: 403
the easiest way i deal with him is circle strafe at very close range, i walk out of his charged shot every time. In other word i hold “e” (and hold right mouse click for camera and player control) and have 1,1,1 go on repeat. Not too bad.
(edited by Shuguard.7125)
Oh yes i have done all the stories modes so far. CoF story was an example of a good dungeon run, now if more bosses did something similar or required teamwork. I’d be a very happy dungeon runner. Something that takes away the monotony of 1,1,1,2 in a dungeon run is a very good change. Be it side weapons or optional mechanics the dungeons need some variety that wouldn’t require assistance from gear.
I think dungeons need newer mechanics that require you to think logically rather than “beep boop large boss with lots of health sighted, push 1,1,1, 2, to defeat beep boop.” This way anyone can do it if you use your brain, gear wouldn’t be an issue. Content would only be as hard as you make it.
So after talking with a friend i have an educated guess as to why the money is terrible from the bags. So around the start of the game my friend told me he got two of those bags from monster drops. Now I’m only guessing but i think it has a low copper amount to possibly stop bots from killing monsters that drop these bags and making easy money(again just a guess). I’d love to see these moved to maybe a dungeon loot/chest table since bots can’t farm dungeons(yet/possibly/to my knowledge) and make it increase the gold/currency amount from the bags of gold(might need this moved to dungeon section).
my group of 3 with 2 pugs beat it. It’s all about getting past the waves and beating down the mobs(workers) around golem. Then run out and run back in while no mobs are up and hopefully burst down golem. After that run to noxx and knock him back into the corner behind his platform away from where the spawns happen. If you can get noxx with no mobs you are golden.
You were expecting gold?
i don’t know maybe something better than 4 copper… It does say a bag of “gold” and gold isn’t copper nor did the bag look like it was made of gold.
So i recently did CM exp the butler path and at the end chest i received a bag of gold and a bag of gems (awesome luck is awesome). Anyways i couldn’t use the bag of gold in the mystic forge, and so i opened it and only got 4 copper… Not sure if it’s intended or should be named bag of disappointment or bag of coins.
Sorry guy, the only way to get one is to purchase it off the tp or rng to victory. keep in mind using 80 rares has about a .001 or .1% chance of giving a precursor(based on the large thread of research). Best wait and see if they change the recipe for the future.
I support having the option of having both a token system and a rng system. There is no reason to have only a rng system other than making an item hard to acquire, which can easily be achieved by having an alternative with a high grind and makes it a guarantee. That way both casual and more active players have a fair and better chance at getting the items they want. This way more people are satisfied with the content.
path 3 has a warp point on the north side that you can warp in very quickly after death. (doesn’t work on the others) Other than that this boss requires a lot of coordination.
Usually knowing who the boss is aggro’d to is a good way of knowing when to revive others in combat. I’ve had one person(with aggro) kite him to the other side of the room from a dead body(or out of giant aoe range) in order to get that person back from death. Since the run back is really far away.
Rolling and saving cooldowns for various oh crap i’m trapped in the vomit bubble etc. Other than that it’s pretty much a mostly ranged and long drawn out fight.
oh guess i was just unlucky. Oh well life goes on.
Sadly the game is more fun when Anet messes up. Stuff progresses much smoother and makes the events more worthwhile. Sadly the only exotics that dropped were below lvl 80, so nothing really happened. Ectos were still dropping in price anyways.
Not sure what happened with ET though.
Basically most guilds like ruin left for IoJ, i think TL left as well. walked into 3W the past few days saw less than 10 people around 7-9est in a few borderlands. Ghost towns.
you can try at levels under level 80, but keep in mind the chance of getting a precursor with level 80 rares is around .1% or .001.
Getting an exotic from rares is maybe 20% then that can lead to better chances for a precursor.
bugged on eradon terrace as well. The second ghost is also apparently bugged as well.
new legendary: Epic wooden sword. It shoots splinters… i guess.
Wow that is the worst luck ever. I feel sorry for you. It is supposed to be any lvl 70+ rare(yellow) quality or higher. Wow that really sucks.
1) There’s an item selling for 2 silver and there’s always the “smart guy” who thinks “I’m so smart, I’ll sell this item for 1.50 and I’ll sell it quicker than anyone!”. Well.. you’re not smart at all. If the item is SELLING for 2 silver, you’re just losing 50 copper.
2) The item is selling for 2 silver and people are putting offers for 1.99. That is also not smart because you are paying almost full price for the item. That’s hardly an offer. Have you ever seen someone saying “hmm.. I don’t know.. 100 dollars is to much for this.. I’ll give you 99 dollars and 99 cents for it!”
Have you ever thought that maybe the market problem is not caused by Anet? =D
Yep, totally get what you mean here. I always hate it when something sells in the 2 gold 40 silver range and someone drops the selling price down to 2 gold and 24 silver. So much profit is lost. People need to get greedy.
The Tar Elemental boss in Arah dungeon because i got the chance to burn him with the whiskey. Didn’t care if the damage was bad, but when my teammates went down(pug run) and had to two man him and rev everyone else, fun times were made.
I find that most bosses lack interesting mechanics or possibly side items to do other styles of fighting bosses. For example I hate bosses that are break the protect “totem, rock, charm w/e” then dps boss. Instead why aren’t there maybe special rifles or special whips or something that gives more flavors to the boss fights(some bosses have these mechanics, but why shouldn’t all of them have options) rather than just 1,1,1, 2, 1,1,1, roll, repeat.
I love mechanic based bosses like the guy in CoE who runs into walls, or the tree thing that you direct robots to blow up on him. That adds a little more thought to the fights and makes them interesting.
PvE mobs have a little too much health and honestly better if you just run past them and not even care. Dungeons runs can take a little too long to complete because of this. Stop padding dungeons with too many mobs with too much health.
I also notice bosses and mobs having a little too much AoE(or too high damage) and prevents players from melee or makes fights much easier if everyone is ranged, giganticus lupicus(sp?) from Arah is a prime example. This boss has way too many anti-melee mechanics and forces me to play ranged when i want to use my mystic hammer/GS i invested my time in.

Can we please have a dye option for under garments? I hate only having blue as an option.
