The much larger issue is for the kittens that flip precursors at the TP and obviously changing the price. Dawn used to be 300-400g few months ago, now its 700 lowest while there has been no gold boost. Go figure.

Speculation takes risk. Again, nobody forced them to do that, it’s like throwing your money away and complaining that it’s gone… Not my problem.

If they just give away precursor with dungeon tokens and wvw badges that you get from wvw they will have to refund alot of people because that will make legendaries so easy to get.

Not really. Nobody was forced to make a legendary. And the amount of people who are selling a precursor are faaaar in the minority compared to people who can’t afford one. I would say 0,5% of players maybe.

tl;dr Anet didn’t balance for active defense, and everyone who whines about other players being at fault is wrong and just making the problem worse. The zerk issue hurts everyone. Read the kitten post to know why.

Well said, sir. It is indeed a problem with active defense being too strong for everyone, even non-tank builds, so that tanks have a nearly redundant advantage in defense, but a big lack of damage, when compared to non-tanks.

Anet made tanks and healers useless (cause they wanted to break the trinity), but gave us the options to get tank/heal gear in a game where they’re unbalanced, solely by damage mitigation through active defense. And they made one of the trinity extremely powerful, namely DPS.

It’s not zerker that is OP, it’s the dodge and block mechanics that are OP and other builds that are UP.
In PvE, that is.

Truth. Because everyone has access to damage mitigation through dodges, blocks, blinds… there’s no need to have armour. Armour reduces hits only veeeery slightly, doesn’t reduce condition damage at all, while having a huge penalty on your damage. Similarly heals are close to useless, because damage slices right through your health and the only way to keep the damage off you is by dodging, blocking…

This is what made the combat system fail and pushes everyone in ‘get highest damage’ (either zerk or condi) because your main defense is dodge/evade and not armour.

You say, in PvE, well it’s much the same in WvW, except that people don’t go full out damage, but high damage combined with ‘average’ tough/vit/heal.

Stacking is not exploiting.

Do you know how many times I’ve done AC and scrubs don’t pay attention to Kholer, get pulled in and melt to daggerstorm?

Have you tried stacking Alphard? Pugs die. Experienced players chain reflects.

Seriously though, I’m not going to lie. When I do a dungeon, I run either my guardian for his reflects and might stacking, either my mesmer for portals, stealths and reflects or my full zerk warrior. Dungeons are a joke, once you know what to do. I’ve played them all to boredom, because they’re too easy.

Man, would I enjoy actually getting challenged by a dungeon. Never happens though. :/

i really don’t get why people are talking about sub classes when ROLES outside of damage aren’t even properly supported

want control? defiance says good luck with that

support? good luck passing the Damage threshold for loot

more items like the toxic krait tonic that let players not interested in gear treadmills dump their ascended materials is required, that or make them tradeable/ vendorable

If they add subclasses now, everyone just picks the one that gives the most DPS.

Right now it’s Zerker or GTFO almost everywhere in PVE land, for good reason. The game mechanics are just too limited to allow for any variation in strategy.

What I said somewhere in page thirty-…
Subclasses are bound to fail if they don’t fix their unholy trinity of Dps, Control, Mitigate and add a bigger need for Support, Utility and Tank.

Everything above is why I enjoy being in a mid tier server. All the baddies go to tier 1 servers so they can win, leaving the rest of us to play in peace.

Yeah, I get that. I swapped to BG during the free-transfer period because I was lonely on my low-pop server. Of course, guesting kind of eliminates that point.

Mhmm I used the free transfer period to swap to a low pop server (Vabbi) and haven’t regretted it since. The amount of quality play here is stunning compared to what I had to put up with earlier. Tier 1 is, sadly, not so much about player skill but about “Zerg skill”.

The number of rangers I have killed who just have a LB equipped and appear to have no idea where the swap weapon or utility buttons are in really quite sad.

Are you sure they weren’t uplevels? Figure that green arrow?

I kid you not, I have recorded footage of me fighting a Bronze Champion ranger who did exactly what I just described. To this day I do not know how he got to such a high rank being such a bad player.

Karma trains are the answer, my friend. Funny though, a Bronze Champion bearbowing. o-O

Where is Elona exactly? bottom right of the map next to Elon river? If an expansion was to add Elona wouldn’t they need to increase the World map?

The way they did it in GW1 was to create a completely new stand-alone map for the new continent. It worked

How about making a “Soul Merger” where you can merge 2 characters. Your alt has to be your lvl or higher(so you have experience in that class) and you can get their class and keep everything else.

That sound fair?

Over a month ago I have listed the 5 biggest mistakes I saw at that point.

1- Stats bound to gear
2- Ascended
3- Upscaling
4- Effectiveness of zergs
5- Lack of skin database

Today I present a new list!
1 Stats bound to armour is still one of the biggest mistakes I see. It ruins variety and calls for very player-unfriendly activities. Ascended gear is automatically redundant from this approach.

2 The last weeks I’m coming to the conclusion that the combat has maior flaws, causing things such as zergs, champion trains, full zerk running in dungeons etc…

  • AoE damage is probably the only way of doing PvP
  • Abandoning the trinity the game has destroyed the base for team work: interplayer dependency.
  • The scaling between Damage, Armour and Health is completely out of balance.
  • Defiant as a mechanic
  • The fact that mobs don’t seem to use more than 1-3 skills.

3 Levels: I literally don’t see why there even are levels in this game. Every zone is open to all players. Still they are made for certain levels, but they’re accessible and playable for any level. Why is this needed at all? Isn’t it simply easier to make all zones level 0 (and destroy the notion of level), and traits, skills, weapons unlocked through activities instead of through leveling?

4 Player-made content. The game lacks it. There is no way any player can create his own content in this game, and it makes end-game near non-existent. This should have been added from day 1, in the form of housing (allowing you to create your own furniture, decoration, build the house like you want it, stone by stone), crafts (involving discovering new recipes randomly, not pre-made ones), player vs. player environments (how come we can’t do anything with keeps/towers we own? why can’t we build additions? Why can’t we hire soldiers with guild insignias, why can’t we…)

5 Story: not immersive enough. Not original. Not heroic. Not memorable.

Deaf Comander

Hello guys and Anet,

I was born deaf, had an opperation at a young age and i can hear now very well. But the problems is that the most people are complaining that i have to use Teamspeak for wvw while commanding. I comanded a lot in the past on Far Shiverpeaks Server with using Team-chat, but now more people are going to use Teamspeak which is a problem for me. I can’t always hear everything on teamspeak and most of the boys have a hard voice which sounds sometimes as a radio xD, i hear the girls much better (they have lovely voices). It is really annoying when people are complaining that i have to use Teamspeak when i can’t always hear what they are trying to say….

Anet mentioned about commander extensions in the future. Isn’t there an option like as example:
- Using Team-chat without being surpressed (We have commander squad chat too but most people dont want to use it)
-Another color for the commander tag like red instead of blue
-Extra extensions on the map for the hearing-impaired or deaf commanders
-…

Supporting this 100%. Nobody should get a penalty for something they can’t help. By the way, it might not be your ears, but the speakers. I barely ever understand someone on teamspeak unless they have a clear voice, with all the noise and weird voice channeling.

I feel all ANet has to do is make it where the pet stowing can be permanent and then give the Ranger normal damage stats instead of the penalty.

Omg yes. Ranger pets are sooo clueless, they just run around and I really never bothered with them.

Mhmmm I personally tired of necro rather fast. It doesn’t look extremely cool, doesn’t have a lot of viable weapons (only staff really) and most utilities are a bit lame. Elementalist has a huge range of skills for weapons, due to having 4 attunements, which makes playing them a lot more fun, because it has so many shiny effects and so much variation. I prefer dagger/dagger, but I guess staff has it’s pros too.

I’ve changed it.

That’s a lot better imo.
I recently decided to reroll my warrior as an asura, for obvious reasons. ;P
This system would make it a lot easier, since I am forced to buy more slots or delete existing characters if I’m in need of something new.

Oh yes, how do you picture this? As a gem store purchase with unlimited use or with some kind of fee? And would you allow switching back to classes/races that you already leveled to 80 on that character or others or make them locked again?

It’s still a hell of a lot easier than anything else. Support and utility roles require you to know what you’re doing. Zerker requires you to know 2 things: dodging and mashing all your damage buttons.

All a non-zerker does is the same as a berserker, but slower and more forgiving (i.e. for bads).

When I run my healer I do things really different. I watch my allies’ health, keep up boons as much as possible, place myself in places where I can catch damage for others and more. It involves TEAM play, what most zerkers and condi builds do not.

I’m not saying the fault is entirely on the players. Zerk is the best build in PvE dungeons, Condi the best in WvW and many SPvP scenarios. The problem lies with making them the best. Everything should have equal purpose.

I’m going to laugh if they actually touch the stats on berserker gear. The amount of anger that will be shown on the forum that day will dwarf any of the other stupid things Anet has done in the last year and a half.

Sadly Anet has made a history of doing the worst possible thing with this game so it’s entirely possible they think it’s actually a good idea to nerf berserker gear is some way.

The stats are fine, it’s a choice just like the rest of the sets that go unused. It’s how the AI will react and how the damage will go out that will change.

Like say if a boss is drug to a corner, instant monster AoE every few seconds. Or having mobs/bosses do more unavoidable AoE faster and more often. Things that will make having the other stats important, basically.

Even with those kind of changes, the game will still be ultra shallow. Anyone that likes this all DPS (even with a potential soft trinity) meta, has never walked into Lower Guk or UBRS or any other properly balanced trinity game. They are way better, by miles.

You can’t reinvent the wheel.

And maybe the multipliers. Healing power, vitality and toughness scale really badly compared to damage. They should work on that.

CC is game-breaking, in a negative way. Most situations in PvP and WvW require you to stunlock your enemy and then throw all your damage at them. It’s not defiant that is bad game design, it’s crowd control. In theory it looks epic, “Woaaah I can throw back this guy”, but when it comes to the game… it makes every challenge a laugh.

We feel like WvW is a really good middle-ground between PvE and PvP and …

This snip right here is why players say they are so out of touch with the game. W3 is in no way, shape, or form a “casual middle ground” between PvP and PvE….

I too would like to know how a massive scale PvP game mode like WvWvW be a “good middle ground” for PvE’ers honestly.

They’re not talking about roaming. they’re talking about blobbing. If you compare the measure of skill needed for roaming to the measure of skill needed for blobbing… ahaha. I think even dungeons in PvE take more skill than the latter and nothing in this game takes more than the first.

You can’t have challening dungeons requiring teamwork without the holy trinity.

You just can’t.

For all the people who don’t want a holy trinity, this is the alternative.

Truth. The only way to make a dungeon require teamwork is by making players dependent from team mates.

I think another way would be to add in class-specific challenges, which require a certain class to get through them. For example an engineer puzzle, a stealth assassination, a illusion game, a elemental challenge and so on and so forth.

I dreamed of playing a human ranger before headstart (in sequence of my main character in GW1). My first char was indeed a human ranger. Then I tried out the warrior. Never have I been as shocked as that day, seeing the warrior easily hitting 2-3 times as much and simply strolling through waves of mobs as if they were butter and he a knife.

That said. I always wanted a ranger. I don’t hate rangers. I hate what Anet did to rangers.

I’ll give you 2 weeks before you go back on most of what you said.

I play since release day and still play several hours each day and love it.

Then you should be in the class of people who suffer the most from the games problems.

Quite a few people have been playing since launch. Just because you don’t like something, doesn’t mean it’s bad. You just don’t like it, and you know…that’s okay.

It’s when people start trying to make their opinion into fact that the problem starts.

I like this game so the game is good for me. You don’t like this game so the game is bad for you.

Neither of us is right. But you shouldn’t assume the OP won’t like it in two weeks, because there are people playing since beta 1 who still like it.

I like the game. I still play many hours a day. That doesn’t make the direction the game is going good, it’s just the stuff from launch/shortly after is still interesting to me.

MMOs should never have been designed to cater to people who work 9-5 and play 1 hour a day around a family life.

Jeez, that’s a bit harsh. Do you not have to work for a living or something?

I’m not criticising the group I mentioned, simply stating that MMOs have never been catered to such players, and as a genre known for such deep character progression and development, methods should never be easily attainable by those with extremely limited time.

I have literally never seen an MMO with deep character progression and development, barring GW2 of course. I’m not sure what MMOs you’ve been playing, but please, do tell!

That said, as far as completion and everything, I totally understand that being hard to attain. I’ll just keep working at it till 2030 and beyond.

I have been for months a WvW player, but not a zergling, but a roamer. I can tell you, roaming takes skill, probably one of the hardest things in the game.

- Pros

  • Freedom of movement
  • Surprises (including fighting larger groups)
  • Bigger areas

- Cons

  • Blobs
  • Unfair fights (50 vs. 5 gets boring rather fast)
  • Uplevels…
  • No free gear
  • No customization

TPvP
- Pros:

  • Level 80 & gear
  • Balanced fights
  • No zerging
  • Using tactics

- Cons:

  • Small area
  • Point-capping
  • No other game modes
  • No customization
  • Bunkering

Oh and adding: I don’t favor either mode. They both have lots of restrictions and lacks.

Edit: Didn’t the “majority of people” enjoy Bazaar of the Four Winds? I didn’t see many complaints about it. It was one of my favorites :P

Just release SAB as a standalone game for all the lovers here. I’m not a fan of it. Didn’t buy this game to play in a pixel-world.

Control & Support in this game are mostly Skillside, not or barely Statside (if you leave boon duration out of it). The best thing anyone can do is to get:

  • High power (coupled with prec/crit) or condition damage
  • Average to high toughness
  • Low to average vitality and healing

One class has both a high base armour and base health, as well as the highest base damage. That class is called warrior. It can invest nearly solely in Power/Condi, ignoring toughness and vitality because they’re high in any case, making it stronger than any other class. On top it has high control through stuns.

Agree. This should have been the case since the start. The difference in health and armour is preposterous, making certain classes incredibly strong and others incredibly weak.

- Perma, or long term, stealth is balanced in sPvP due to not being able to cap a point.

It makes thieves useless in SPvP. Only thing they can do is run around and speedcap, which doesn’t happen a lot because bunkers are all over the place. :/

Obviously you can’t. I have seen plenty of threads about classes being buffed in PvE, making PvP unbalanced.

I’m not saying PvE is balanced. What should have been done is separate PvE and PvP for balancing. DONE

Basically it comes down to this:

GW1 kept players playing by having multiple alt-characters. It was super easy to level up and max equip a new character. This means newbies zones are rarely empty, because veteran players will be bringing their alts though those newbie zones. Most players have a decent understanding of multiple classes, because they played though them all.

WoW kept players playing by power creep. It takes a lot of time and effort to max equip just one character. And so everyone have to focus on one character, that’s it. The newbie zones are emptied out very quickly, because veteran players do not have time to play an alt. Since most players only ever play though 1 class, they often have great misunderstandings on other classes.

I personally prefer GW1’s method. And so it was disappointing to see GW2 going toward the WoW method.

You’re missing a huge aspect of what kept people playing Guild Wars: the expansions. Every year we got what was essentially a whole new game; complete with a new story, new classes, new areas to explore, new skills, and new features. Don’t underestimate the amount of longevity the expansions added, or the interest they generated among non/potential players.

I don’t know about you, but I personally had 10 characters in GW1. So for me, the ease of leveling and max equipping an alt-character is one of the major reasons for me to kept playing GW1 for 7 years. I finished all 4 campaigns for so many times I don’t remember.

1 of each class here. I did delete my characters to reserve names for GW2 (shame on me I know), but leveling & gearing was easy and that’s the way it’s supposed to be. Why would you build a whole game around getting the highest stats? It’s the story, the combat and PvP that make a game, the gear should only serve to let you complete those.

This bring fun back in www. There will be less blobbing because everybody isn’t in same TS or at least blobs are much less organized so smaller guilds can have fun too.

Most of the map is karma trains, sadly. It’s not really that interesting as far as I’m concerned.

Karma train drops loot just like other trains.

Yet they are not fun. They just blob under a commander, and the enemy sides aswell. There wasn’t a lot of space for organized small groups, because they either got blobbed themselves, or had nothing to do because most of the objectives are ment for 20+ people.
