Dailies and other dismal failures

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

Completely disagree with the OP. The new dailies are great for the simple reason that they arent tied to laurels anymore. I can skip a daily without worrying in the slightest because i wont be losing out on anything except AP (and ap is capped for dailies anyway). So if you dont like the new system, dont use it. Easy.

Whereas in the old system, if you didnt like it, well, too bad, you had to use it or no laurels (which are pretty much required if you ever want anything ascended)

People who like the new dailies arent against more options being put in (its already stated there will be a new section for fractals btw), but whining that the old system is better and should be put back in game is silly

Imagine if legendaries...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sizer.3987

But in our case we now have people feeling so entitled to legendaries that any form of effort put into content that they don’t like warrants a complain. Just imagine….

Imagine that 1 rare guy with an eternity and be like wow dude you really beat the game! Instead of omg legendary effects are causing my fps to lag… Can I have an option to turn them off.

Imagine how different gw2 would have turned out!

Not sure who you are directing this thread at… most people are fine with the current amount of effort that go into legendaries. I guess you seem to want so much effort required that there are only a handful of people per server with one, but this isnt a pure pvp game, and legendaries being accessible to everyone without pvp is the only way this games economy could possibly work.

Maybe in the future you want the next set of legendaries (after these new HOT ones) to be pvp only? If thats what your asking thats not a bad idea, otherwise no thanks.

Dungeon Tokens - How To Obtain post HoT.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Sizer.3987

Youre grossly underestimating the population of this game as well as that populations desire for account bound rewards. Just because dungeons arent going to be the best gold/hr it doesnt mean people wont run them, either for skins, legendary crafting, or just for fun.

Lvl 1-9 fractals give like the worst gold/hr you can get and you dont even get ascended drops or fractal weapon skins, but you can still find a group for them in minutes, because people want the account bound rewards, or they are simply doing it for fun.

Same thing with dry top, or LS instances, or orr zones (no acc bound stuff there, but people still do it), all of those things are “dead” content and still have huge populations doing them.

No reason why dungeons will be any different. Yea you wont get the speed runners that can do a dungeon in 5 minutes, but youll still find groups.

ToT farming - the real endgame (rant)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

The best part is that TP flipping can easily give two or three times your number for ToT farming (which I dont believe, but not going to argue it), and it doesnt even require leaving a city.

I know exactly how you feel, but with how this game is designed you have literally zero choice, either dont think about it or quit. If you find yourself taking your income too seriously it probably is a good idea to take a break for a few weeks, I know thats what ive done in the past.

So the game is based on grinding.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

The “no grind” philosophy means a new set of gear with higher stats wont be required every time new content comes out. It was broken once when ascended gear and fractals came out, which people hated, but by now they have either gotten used to it or quit. Raids do not break it as ascended gear is not required for them.

It also doesnt mean high end cosmetic items wont be expensive.

Moving to remove dungeons?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

Not sure how any of this is surprising to anyone anywhere, its been stated several times over the last year that dungeons are dead, and with XP being useful again for masteries a dungeon nerf was obvious.

Besides if you read the whole post they said dungeon rewards are just being moved to other areas. So people will have to go from speed running dungeons every day to speed running whatever fractals give the most gold/hour. Big deal. Nothing is really going to change in the end.

Salvaged mats economy to be DESTROYED

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

The blog post seemed set up to soften the blow when our jaws drop at the new drop rates.

I understand they probably have some ulterior motives, but on the face of it, this appears squarely aimed at destroying the income of the F2P accounts that get by primarily on farming and selling mats.

It sounds less about destroying the income of F2P accounts and more trying to stabilize the super cheap t5 mats (other than silk). Really i dont think it has anything to do with F2P, those same mats were almost worthless months ago before the f2p patch.

If anything I dont know why they dont just nerf the drop rate of generic blues/greens. Seems like an easier method.

Solution for Ascended Gear Gate in Raids.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

There is no gear gate. Please stop saying there is, as it is probably just confusing people. There is a skill gate, like all content, and while Im not totally against an easy mode to help people learn it, i dont think the content will be nearly difficult enough to warrant one. Maybe in the first few weeks itl be hard, but by month 2 pug groups will be clearing all 3 wings in an hour in exotics> IF it really proves a lot harder than that, and pugs really cant beat it at all, then an easy mode with reduced rewards (like severely reduced) wouldnt be a bad idea.

But again, its not a gear gate. Please stop calling it that.

% outgoing healing gear

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

Yeah, i have said it from the start of the game, nerf standard healing by 50% and let it scale up strongly with healing power…

Please Anet.

Please no, ANet. All this does is remove more of the responsibility for survival from all players and give it to one. Recommended healer does not mean dedicated healer.

There is nothing wrong with the Healing Power stat absent, possibly, some tweaks for individual skill coefficients. This has been demonstrated in multiple Cleric solos and team comps which do not use any or at least all of the game’s active defense mechanics.

ANet seems to be on track to promote a healer being part of team comps in raids. The way they’re doing this is by making changes to how damage is delivered and by providing specs (weapon, utility and trait choices) that generate more “heal other” options. Based on the one boss, this seems to be working.

Let’s not completely break the mechanics of the game when it is not necessary.

Except you could just skip all that and instead of having 1 person as a dedicated healer and 9 people with 100% dps gear you could run 10 people with 90% dps gear and 10% healing gear. Zero reason for a dedicated healer in any group if people rethink their builds and add a little extra healing power.

To add more directly to this thread, givers gear would be perfect to turn into something like the OP wants, either with +healing % or boon duration (id prefer boon duration). Clerics is fine for support builds, but it would be nice to get some more options, especially for the more boon heavy classes.

World completion is the worst.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

I find world completion to be a nice relaxing activity. I’m working on my sixth word complete at the moment, I’m well over 80%. I know there are a number of people that despise world complete, but there are probably just as many who enjoy it.

Yeah, that’s absolutely true. I did it to “save gold” Which I guess worked. It was just alot longer than what I had expected. world completion saves you around 1000g but for 100 hours that’s 10g per hour. From dungeons etc you can expect to clear around 6 – 7 g per hour, maybe 8? once everything is accounted for. it’s hard to know. anyway as a gold saving mechanic world completion is on shaky ground.

Not to be rude or anything (this is meant as advice), but map completion on a lvl 80 in zerk gear shouldnt take more than 50-60 hours at most, unless its your first time (which is understandable). Otherwise, if you do it again in the future, id look into a way to do maps faster, whether its getting a better spec on whatever toon you have for more mobility/burst to do hearts faster (roll a thief imo if you really want it faster), or finding a better route through maps, or something.,

But if youre doing the math on whether or not its affordable on average, i would put it closer to 1000g for 50-75 hours, or 15-20/hr, which is definitely saving money compared to just buying it.

If only they were tradeable, then people who like it could really make money off map completion while people like the OP could save themselves the trouble and just buy it. Maybe next expansion…

Although for mesmers zerk is a pretty safe set (we will be getting new builds but they will require the same stats, ie power/prec/feroc) so if you dont care about legendary stuff make it now.

Is the mesmer scepter really that bad?

in Mesmer

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

In pve, well yes, its pretty bad at applying conditions, but its not the end of the world. You can start in scepter/pistol (or shield), summon phantasms, and swap to staff to autoattack, only swapping back to scepter when you need to block or resummon. It works, not nearly as good as a power build, but its the best we can do. The main drawback is that the autoattack summons a clone, which is bad if you have 3 phantasms up, so you have to be careful or you will lose dps from the 3rd cast.

In pvp its a really good weapon in some builds but there are better threads about it and pvp builds in general if you want to look them up (check the stickied threads on this forum first)

Will Elite specs replace old ones? (Meta)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

I’m not looking for an answer like, “No, you should play what you like to play, there is no best spec.”

I’m simply curious if most of the new elite specs for classes will replace the old ones? Will you technically suffer in viability (no matter how small) if you ignore the new specs and play the exact build you’re playing in live right now?

Thanks

Depends. Will you be playing the same content youre playing in live now? Or will you be playing HOT content.

Some elites are upgrades in both (mesmer and reaper for example) so for those the answer is yes.

Some are only going to be “meta” in raids but not in old content (druid, and maybe scrapper?), so the answer is probably no here.

And some are mostly useless (tempest, probably guards), so again no.

Just speculating, but if you want a class where you wont be kicked out of super serious meta dungeon runs for not buying HOT, eles and guards seem like a good choice.

Probably because everyone at anet will work a 72 hour shift before HOT launches and its easier to update the servers with both events at once. Yea it could compound the bugs (doubt it, most of halloween is in LA, not new zones, but who knows) but at least people will be around to fix them quickly. Beats having people work overnight both weeks to update twice, so its not thar hard to imagine a reason for it. Im just guessing though, its that or the devs have something against the OP and are delaying it just for him, could be that too.

I wouldnt have minded halloween a week early, but whats 1 more week when we’ve waited this long already.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

You need to make sure you are in the higher level part of the 1-15 zones, the lower parts (id guess at least levels 1-5, maybe even up to 10) dont have nodes anymore. Check the level of mobs around you if you dont know where you are. I do agree that they need to put those back, if thats what you meant by this post.

Also, you might not be asking this, but youre better off gathering in a higher level zone, selling the stuff and buying copper. Platinum is about 2x the price of copper and its easier to find, plus the other stuff you can get in those zones (ascalon zones are the best due to chili peppers, orr zones are also good but doesnt sound like you are 80 yet).

Is HoT pay to win?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

Every other mmo raises the lvl cap with it’s expansion making anyone who buys the expansion 10 times stronger then someone who doesn’t, yet you never hear anyone mention pay to win, people think it’s normal. GW2 doesn’t do this, for very good reason, and then it’s somehow ok to expect perfect balance, because otherwise the game is pay to win?
Who are we kidding here?

It appears Speedyfox has only played free to play games before where the expansion was given to him for free. He’s never played any of the subscription or buy to play games where the player has to buy the expansion. He thinks what he is used to is the normal state of affairs for MMOs.

Yes i have never bought a game in which I have to pay to be something, if you are used to be exploited i cant do anything for you but I do not accept that, the first thing I see in a game is if I can have access to everything with my own effort, if not I go to another game, afterward I open my wallet, I do not know what it was like in GW1 or any other B2P game and it does not interest me, the purpose of GW2 was exactly that and has been for three years.

If spending any money at all on hobbies is being “exploited” (howd you get a computer to type this on anyway?), youre in the wrong game. Its unfortunate that they are advertising it as F2P to try to get new players (even though it says directly you cant access the whole game for free, but im sure people dont read that), but thats not how the full game has ever or will ever work.

Anyway, not to be rude, but dont let the door hit you on your way back to runescape or candy crush or whatever you play next.

Toxicity in game modes

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

This is ridiculous and I don’t see how this thread was ever intended to be constructive, but I have a question. What is the definition of this ‘toxicity’ I keep hearing about? I’ve played since launch in every game mode (mostly Dungeon Speedclears and PvP), somewhat intensely, and have never ran into anything I’d consider ‘toxic’. Is this all sheer hyperbole? Seems more like someone got called a “doodyhead” two years ago and has stewed about it since.

I for one know 100% the most toxicity ive ever seen was in threads on the fourms about how much toxicity there is.

I guess a few people have had bad experiences, but its selection bias (am i using that phrase right? dont think I am, but w/e). The ones who have had bad experiences run to tell people about it, and the ones who dont, well, they dont. Similar to when some new content gets released and people rage about it on the forums, you get 100 people telling how much it sucks, but there are 10000 perfectly happy with it, but too busy playing to post.

So yes, a ton of it is hyperbole, but it does happen.

Class unbalance will kill Raids

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Sizer.3987

As it stands, unless balance is adressed, there’s no reason to run classes that don’t fit into this setup :

1 tank ( which can be multiple things )
Power revenant
Warrior
Chronomancer
Ele or another revenant
4 Sinister Engi
Druid

Anything else is pure handicap to the overall utility and damage of the group, which is something that definitely needs to be addressed.

Serious question, I might have missed something but dont buffs still only work on 5 people? I assume they are taking warriors for banners and chronos for alacrity and so on, so wouldnt you need 2 of each of those?

Thief, Ele have no place in raids?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

The real joke is that nobody is calling for an Engineer nerf, even though we’re going to see 3-4 of them in a 10 man raid. They have the highest PvE DPS (yes, highest, Sinister Engineer beats out Elementalist), yet we don’t have developers dropping microphones telling us that they’re overtuned and need to be adjusted. Why? Because people don’t cry on the forums about them non-stop.

What we have here is proof that a) ANet takes forum balance crying too seriously, and b) the nerfs to the classes frequently whined about (Thief, Elementalist) over the years are now going to nudge them out of the meta for new content.

Ele nerfs were entirely due to pvp and 4 ele groups winning tournaments. If you want to cry about poor balancing cry about the fact that balance STILL isnt split between the different game modes, even though theyre like playing entirely different mmos.

Besides 4 engies isnt that bad for balance, people ran 2 warriors in every dungeon run forever, then 2 eles in every run. Everyone knows balance will only be bad if people start running 5 per raid. Then you can grab your pitchforks and start booking flights to anets HQ.

Finaly people are realising what “the end of zerker meta” means.

Have fun collecting multiple ascended sets now until you’ve gathered the mats for legendary armor.

Not to mention that certain classes (ranger aka druid aka healbot) will now get to use only 1 type of set and build specific to each boss in raids.

This is so much better than being slightly less efficient in custom gear than full zerker gear, as was up till now. /sarcasm

The one case where I really hate having been right. O well, 2-3 more ascended equips isn’t that hard to get for me.

Well fortunately you arent right, as ascended is in no way required for raids, so no need to keep hating.

Event credit for support changes?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Sizer.3987

That’s kind of a tough one and an issue the new for lack of a better word, healer, mechanic brings. On the one hand in raids I guess healing will be very appreciated, maybe needed and deserving of rewards. On the other hand it may encourage people to play that role in open world events where it really isn’t needed, sitting back, scaling up the event, not really contributing and “heal tagging” for easy loot. It would be worse than Guardian loot stick. So I am not sure where to go on this issue.

This is where the problem would be, but i think theres a way around it. Best example i can think of to deal with it is by thinking of a fight similar to teq, where there are frequent damage pits in where you stand to melee. So a fight could be either 100% dps classes, fighting mostly from range with each person doing 66% of their melee damage. OR, you could have 66% dps classes 33% healing, and those healing classes would let people melee all the time, doing full damage, so the fight would finish in the same amount of time both ways.

If the new events were balanced like the above then it would be fine. If not, the people healing would just be dead weight and shouldnt be getting rewards just for throwing out random heals and 0 damage.

Also in wvw this should happen all the time. Just in pve that its questionable.

Healing Power problems

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sizer.3987

Some skills definitely need more contribution. Less than .5 scaling on abilities with long cd’s is a thing that should not be in game. 3.0 seems kind of high especially on empower since guards have so much other healing, but overall its a good idea, especially for classes like necro/thief/mesmer who get almost 0 gain out of healing power currently.

Regen however I dont think should change. Its already a good boon, if anything let it stack intensity instead of duration like conditions all do now.

Its a solid idea, especially for the cheaper precursors (like the ones where you can buy it on the TP for 100-200g but crafting it might take 1000g), but it would have to be a pretty good skin for anyone to put in that much work for it, so the biggest downside I can think of is the development time to make those skins (as a comparison it seems to take 1-2 months for a set of new bltc skins to come out)

Also, how would it feel for players that has already crafted their ascended then it’s changed, they will feel jaded.

Hard =\= expensive. The only challenge you face is gold. With that you can skip the time gate, grind. Any “challenge” in getting ascended will be self imposed in most situations.

Wrong. Hard = expensive. Anet cannot put gear behind “challenging” content because it will either be too hard (only 5% of ppl will beat it) or too easy (everyone will beat it in an hour and run out of stuff to do) and people will complain either way

That is how this game has been designed and how it will always work, barring a total overhaul of the game. It sucks (I play mostly light armor classes, so I agree that its just awful), but you cant just nerf the cost by 50% after thousands of ppl already have the armor. That would ruin the economy and kitten off a ton of people.

Constant damage tick

Okay, I’m not understanding the argument here.

In GW1 there was a dedicated healing class: the monk. All character classes had skills to heal themselves, however, when in larger groups, having 1 or 2 extra healers was a boon. Their presence allowed the other 6 characters (largest group was 8, not counting pets/minions/spirits/summoning stones) to max out on damage and not worry much about healing themselves. Even among the other 6, if those were heros, their builds could be modified to keep the main character (player directed) healthy while still doing max damage. So, I don’t understand the problem of certain classes having greater group healing ability. Stop your whining and learn to play in the group. And for those classes with greater healing – stop being one-side. Your party is depending on you. Keep the tank healthy. Heal the supports. Supports, make certain the healer(s) don’t go down. They should be to the rear of the action. Don’t let anything get to them.

Now, for the experienced players, that sounds like a reiteration of what you already know. So, go with it. You know what needs be done. For those who have never played where they are dependent on the rest of the group – that’s the basic group tactic.

Don’t shoot the messenger.

By-the-by, this was also the tactic employed in WoW. Still is as far as I know.

Oh, and if you’re in too much of a hurry to wait for a healer, better examine why you’re playing the game. Entertainment, enjoyment and relaxation is the key. NOT grinding, shoving, pushing, hassling, harassing, trolling, intimidating, demeaning, etc.
Nothin’ but Love.

You dont get it. Some dev (who probably doesnt work at anet anymore) said in a brief statement 3 months before launch that there will be no “trinity” like in other mmos (seems he meant that every class will be able to do every role, so you wont have to wait for a specific healing class to log on, but thats not how people take it).

Anyway since then that statement has been taken as meaing there will never be any use for healing or tanking at any point in the game no matter what. And as these people spent a whole $50 on this game 3 years ago that makes them shareholders, so the devs better not make them mad!

I can see this being the biggest complaint after HOT and people stop whining about raids. “X profession killed me just because he has a specialization, P2W!” And honestly they almost have a point, specializations are made to be no stronger than core specs, but no mmo is ever 100% balanced.

Id say let ppl be able to buy access to specializations like you can do for certain runes, but you only get 1 at a time. So someone can choose to play for 2 weeks to get 100 gold (made up number, but it should be somewhat high) to get access, or they can buy HOT and get it right away. It might lead to less actual sales, but it will get more people into the game.

Ascended Gear required to raid?

so basiclly your saying the average player who has exotic armor and maybe a coup,e of kitten trinkets(jewlery), will have a hard time in raids and possibly getting into raids, because they did not have the gold and expesinve crafting materials to craft asscended armor, thats just like saying you can not get in to DOA in guild wars1 unless you are wearing Obsidian armor set, because any other set of armor your wearing is going to get you kill quickly and alot, thats not fair, basiclly Raid will fall to the Few elite players who have these expensive armor and weapons, thats not fair, and you expect areanet to keep a high fan and player base, right.

Ascended weapons take like 50g to make, thats about 10 hours of gameplay, plus around 100g to level crafting, so add 20 hours. Trinkets require 30 seconds a day for a month to get laurels, plus about 4 hours spread over that month to finish missions. Armor is useless (people already stated reasons why). Lets just call it 40 hours total, or heck, assume youre slow at making gold, so call it 50.

So only a small % of the playerbase has put 50+ hours into this game? Right……

Youd have a point if ascended was in fact “required” for raids. But since it isnt, and has never been said to be (hint: required and recommended have different meanings in the english language), you dont have a point at all.

Arah is easier with ascended, but its not required. Living story steps are easier with ascended, but its not required. Killing champs in orr is easier in ascended, but its not required. Raids will be easier with ascended, but its not required. Not sure how people can deal with the first 3 but not the 4th.

The issue I have is not with what the OP is saying it’s with what ArenaNet said before revealing raids and how their words are totally different from how they implemented raids. Difficult content shouldn’t equate to wearing the best gear or excluding players based on gear grind. They should have made it so everyone was required to wear no better than green armor. That way, any level 80 could enter the raid but only those with a certain skill level would meet the player skill level needed to beat the raid. As it stands now, there are multiple gates required to do raids. There is a skill gate, a gear gate and a mastery gate. How is this any different from any raid ever implemented in a raid in any other game? The answer is simple. It’s no different.

If people that say they want raids to be difficult were telling the truth, their gear checks for entry to the raid would all be wearing green armor or less. Players, do the community a favor and require all your LFG team members to ping and wear un-transmuted green level gear for raids.

To my knowledge there is no check for gear when you enter the raid, you can enter in Whites.

Yep. There is no gear gate whatsoever. People will be beating it in exotics week one and I bet by week two they will be beating it in white gear or naked (though hopefully only a tiny % of people can do this or itl be wayyyy too easy of a fight)

I also havent heard about a mastery gate, but i might be mistaken there

Everything that you could ever do in this game at any point in time will end up excluding someone. Halloween JP, tower of nightmares, arah explorable, even fractals 1-9 are content some people couldnt do. So its not like any of this is new.

It depends on how much “content” is being excluded from what % of the playerbase. If 50% of the HOT story dialogue is in raids and only 10% of players end up beating them, its bad. If 0% is in it and 90% beat it the first week, thats also bad.

Letting people do easier versions (aka lvl 1-9 fractals, or maybe even easier) for minimum rewards (like, >25% of what the hardest one gives) is the best idea ive seen in these threads. That way no one would miss out on any content, but theres a big incentive to do the hardest mode.

People will still go “OMGZ nubs can get my shiny skins whats teh point of having stuffz if other people has it!”, but really, who cares about that if the other 99% of the game is happy.

Ascended Gear to be Required for Raids

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Let’s see:

Arenanet add raids to the game wich are supposed to be challenging group content while at the same time changing the system to a soft (maybe hard) trinity and people are supprised over:

- the max level of gear being required. What part of challenging content was missed? Having raids be balanced around exotics would mean ascended items make them easier than intended

- more restrictiv group compositions. That’s what trinity does, it automatically adds barriers and requirements as far as class and group composition goes, on TOP of gear and specialisation

- masteries being required. This was highly likely to happen anyway. I’m sure there will be some synergy between masteries and raid accessibility. It makes sense in artificially extending the game

I guess the best bet is to wait and see how hard raids actually are. If they indeed are as hard as promissed, expect all the mentioned points to come true. Let’s see how long it takes until people realise what it actually means to “not be able to play how I want”.

The max level of gear required will still be exotics. Just because something is balanced around ascended, it doesnt mean its required in the same way that a lvl 50 fractal requires 70+ ar, especially as ascended armor (not weaps/trinkets, just armor) is only like a 2% total stat increase.

More restrictive group compositions is the worrying part. If druids can put out 30% more heals (making up numbers here) than the next class, you will need them a lot more than the 2% stat increase ascended armor will give you.

Not sure about masteries, I havent heard anything about that yet, but I kind of expect something to be tied in to them since raids are HOT content.

But yes, a lot of this depends on how hard raids are. Even if you dont “need” ascended armor, a lot of people will be whining about it if they cant beat raids week 1 in exotics (even though they still wont be able to beat them with that whole 2% stat increase)

Ive bought a few arah runs before to finish a bifrost and never had problems, but I dont know, it just seems to give pve in this game such an asian gold farmerish feel, especially when you look in lfg and 9/10 listings are for people selling paths, plus it must be a huge turnoff for new players (and I know, make your own group if you dont want to buy one, and it doesnt hurt anyone, and play how you want, blah blah blah)

Im not calling for it to be banned, got nothing against the people who do it, but itd be great if there was a new lfg portion just for selling paths.
