No, you posted in the right place. And yes, pvp separate from pve should be a thing, and it is in a few cases, but the devs dont seem to like it for some odd reason…
The OP has a good idea (even though his new abilities seem way too OP). But really, the problem in doing something like this (besides how much time itd take) is pve <→ pvp balance. There is no way you could do something like this in pvp without messing up class balance for at least 1-2 years. I guess you could split balance between game modes, but something this major would practically create a whole new class, so doesnt seem like that would work.
But hey, when burst damage and control and so on become useful in pve so shatter specs become useful then we wont have to worry about it!
Totally disagree about SW farming. Its the reason prices of t6 mats went down so much (anyone remember when powerful bloods were almost at 1g?), and its also keeping the price of ectos at a good level from all the rares you get. Yea its more than other zones but those other zones are getting new rewards too so i think it wont be as big of a disparity in a month.
Your guild ideas seem fine though, cant see why anyone would argue against more ranks.
If they allowed the hair kit to change the glow then they would have to allow the hair kit to change Norns tattoos, Asuran skin markings or the markings on Charr fur. Glow, tattoos, and skin markings are all the same thing, just on different species.
That would actually be, well, perfectly fine. Combine this change with some silly promotion that increases the drop rate of perma hair change contracts from chests for a week and key sales would go through the roof. I bet it would more than make up for lost revenue from total makeover kits.
Also if that ever happens I expect someone to send me a perma contract for free for coming up with such a brilliant idea (i guess you can send the guy i quoted one too for being so right all the time)
If demanding people to link their gear to that efficiency site is going to be such a big deal it would already be happening in high lvl fractals, which are almost certainly going to be harder and more gear dependent than raids. Maybe some people have different experiences, but ive seen it referred to exactly once in two years, and it wasnt even someone demanding it, just people talking about that site.
Also I wouldnt take that tweet or any info about raids “requiring” ascended seriously unless you get concrete info from the devs about it needing AR, which we havent seen. But yea, silk is going to be one of the safest investments you can make, at least until wintersday drives the prices down again (if that happens again???)
If youre like what i used to be and use mystic salvage kits for greens to try to get more ori/ancient wood (seems like a good idea, 25% chance of improved items, right?!?!), dont bother. You only get the improved mats <10% of the time and you literally waste hours every month getting rid of the green runes. Go with basic salvage kits and your wrists will thank you.
I mean a better use for them would be nice (or just remove runes from green gear in the loot tables), but i doubt its a high priority issue right now
If you are playing primarily mmos, CPU is much much more important than graphics cards. Get the best/newest one you can and whatever top of the line motherboard fits with it, along with plenty of memory (at least 16gb) and a good power supply (dont cheap out and get a 400W one, get at least a 750)
It should last for years if you build it right, which isnt as hard as youd think, but if its your first time find some guides online on how to do it
The ice bow nerf is detrimental for two reasons:
1.No one ever uses it in PvP and rarely in WvW.
2.PvE content will take longer to clear.
I say reverse the nerf.
If the time it takes to clear content is to be the only, or primary, consideration for game balance then all skills should do more damage in a single hit than any mob has health.
It’s only used in PvE where balance isn’t important. In high level fractcals warriors with full soldier’s still get one shotted making berzerker far more valuable. Where’s the balance there? Bosses get defiance, have large HP pools, large damage output, and sometimes cheap mechanics like Molten and Mai Trin where you can get knocked off, have to watch multiple bosses (so you can’t just watch tells from one) and in Mai Trin’s case you need to lure her into a blue field shot by Turak (walk into electricity shot by someone with a red name! Sure is intuitive!) They also have more attacks than you have dodges so even if you know to dodge you can’t because endurance limits.
With such cheapness players don’t owe bosses anything less than the best and most efficient strategies being employed.
Guess someone hasnt been paying attention to the talk of raids going on in the next few months.
These changes are in preparation for HOT, nothing more. And its a good idea to launch them now so they have a few weeks to see how the changes go and fix any bugs.
Not to be rude, but you have literally zero idea what youre talking about. Eles can do almost everything. Pretty much the only important things they dont have are stealth and portal, and they do have stealth, but only underwater (im exaggerating a little, but not by much)
Id say it depends on two things, one being how much account bound stuff the collections will need, and on how much precursor prices move after the expansion. If its 100 hours of acc bound tasks and 500g in mats to craft zap but 1000g to buy it on the TP, id be happy with that (yea I dont make 10g an hour hyper speed running dungeons, sue me). If its 100 hours and 950g in mats to craft but 1000g on the TP then id be a lot less happy. Seems difficult to predict with how much prices on these items can be manipulated by small groups of people, but i hope it goes well
Ill probably craft 1 like most people to try it, but if its terrible I can imagine this being the sole thing that will make me stop playing the xpac after 2 months instead of 6+ since the only thing to do once you run out of content is make shiny gear
Thieves elite spec is based on dodging, guardians one is based on ranged combat, engies is based on control (or whatever it is), ect. Not everyone is going to get the same stuff at once.
But yea, seems likely there will be a dedicated healing spec for each class eventually. Might take 5 years for it to happen, but its better than all 9 classes getting a healing spec one expansion, and everyone getting a control spec the next one, and so on.
The elementalists don’t care, most dmg still comes from good rotations… And now we’ll see glyph of storms and glyph of elementals reintroduced in dungeons, Hope people learn to switch 1 ele to earth and use it for a blast finisher, blast blast (6,7), the the wall the sandstorm then moving to fire and the second ele one starting with fire : lava font (6,7) then MS, buring and switching to sandstorm to conditnue blind uptimes and rewalling… maybe even using blast 2 in eart to hit water 3 for maximum sustain and mitigation while simultanioulsy still doing high AOE dmg. Of course lightning storm and lightning hammer is still available… I am pretty sure FGS and IB have been nerfed to $#!7, now see what the axe and lightning hammer can do….
Or groups will skip all that and just have 3 eles sitting in fire spamming lava font/fireball, with a war doing the might stacking and a guard/thief doing the blinds. Boring but its the highest dps you can get in game, ice bow or not (i’m not complaining, just stating a fact).
Either way ice bow still needed a nerf, and since it will still be a useful weapon (at least on stuff with big hitboxes) it doesnt seem like an overnerf at all.
The problem with your first assumption is you forget that other players can spec as dedicated healers. There are guardians that can spec for so much healing they can facetank mossman in a lvl 50 fractal, and eles that can burst heal like 20k in a second, among others (yes, all 8 classes dont have good healing specs, but more than 1 of them does)
Your second scenario could be valid, but it doesnt seem likely as it was already stated that raids will require more than pure dps specs and will have undodgeable damage. But it could happen.
Please stop including the word “we” in your arguments. You might not want more than 1 role in the game, but plenty of other people do, trinity or not.
“I said I didn’t want trinity” would have been a much more appropriate title.
Ice Bow had to be nerfed. Raids are coming out soon, and undoubtedly, everyone getting off a huge amount of damage with Ice Bow probably really skewed the encounter balance. It’s no coincidence they’re making the changes in light of the new raid wing that’s about to come up.
This makes sense. Surprised they didnt nerf deep freeze too, since 10 people coordinated could keep something stunned for 20 seconds if they do it right, but maybe the new break bar will make that impossible, who knows.
Just curious if i missed it (I assume its just hyperbole), but was anything stated about druid abilities working on more than 5 targets at once? Itd be really weird if it did
If not there is no reason why other classes couldnt heal in place of druids. If druids are slightly better at it, “meta” groups will only take druids, sure, but right now they will only take eles for dps, so its not like the dps role has a lot of diversity either.
uhul finally wow clone! glorous 99% of the market, haha glorious green bars filler job
[cries in nomads]It’s sad to see that you are disappointed.
Maybe GW2 is not the right game for you anymore.
I guess if you take a step back and observe is a better way to aproach the game again and find new joy before judging too fastSure its soon to judge that the game is becoming trinity YES.
Now my satirical comes from a standpoint that the game i bought at release and invested money for 3yrs was not a trinity based game, otherwise i shouldve stayed playing lineage2 or WoW, YET, i dont demand those games to change to my playstyle.
Now, i see all this “trinity is best”, in a game that is 3yrs old out of it, as comical enough to indulge myself to a very snarky remarki see you point.
But there are people who invested 8 or more years from GW1 on and everything was taken away from them.I am absolutely sure A-Net gets these people including me back and that is a very good thing indeed.
If you think players from GW1 were disapointed with GW2 due to lack of trinity, you are sorely mistaken.
Trinity was never the issue as to why GW1 players were disapointed with GW2.
To believe that trinity is a good developement for GW2 is even more insane. Now nothing seperates this game from every single other MMO. Other MMOs with better loot systems, newer content, larger scale, better lfg tools, etc.
I’m pretty sure the small steps towards trinity will be at most in raid content. Getting over excited now is way over the top.
If people are not disapointed with the lack of trinity then why are there thousands of posts complaining about the zerk meta?
These people might not want a wow type trinity where a tank spends 100% of his time managing aggro and a healer spends 100% of his time healing (in fact no one wants that, even though the zerk meta defenders always seem to assume they do), but people do very much want more roles in this game than dps, dps, and more dps.
Eles, mesmers and guards all already have spammable heals and “healbot” specs, and no one demands people run them in wvw/pvp/dungeons/ect. The only place that they might be required will be raids, and everyone has the potential to spec group heals for that (even though some classes, ie necros, are pretty bad at it atm, they could still get some future buffs to fix that)
So really the problem, like the guy above me just said, is balance, to make sure every class can do these things. If thats the case, then no, having healing/tanking/ect. be helpful in raids instead of straight dps will not make this game a wow clone. You will not spend hours sitting around spamming “LF healer for dungeon” in chat (which is how the devs originally advertised “no trinity” btw), but if you make a group you will probably have to actually plan what specs people will run, and someone might have to actually hit respec, take out his pure dps traits, and put in some heals (oh the horror!).
I guess it sucks for rangers who were hoping for a damage spec now, or for necros who wanted a healing spec for raids, but in theory they will eventually get specs for those.

This one time I made a forum post about how awesome the devs are, threw 16 rares into the mystic forge, and got 5 precursors out of it. True story.
Pretty much everything will come back at one point. A few really old things like the baseball hat or bunny ears dont seem to be coming back, which is weird, but most things do
it will probably be your last chance to buy them for 6 months since HOT will undoubtedly have new gem store items (along with the “OMG how dare the devs try to make money” threads).
People spamming /dance. Basically ruins the game, so I have to set character model limit to lowest 95% of the time. Not that I RP or anything, but it is just so kitten annoying
The problem with this isnt resistance, its that the classes with the most protection (ele 1st by far, then I think guard and maybe engy?) are the classes people talk about when they say “BURNING OP BRAH”, and theyd gain a lot more from this change than say, necros or wars
It does make more sense to make prot work for both damage types, i wouldnt mind that change, but it would do a lot to balance that would have to be addressed at the same time
Not to be hating or anything, but the cost of 6 collection expanders converted to gold is probably more than the cost of all that stuff. Maybe if you had 1500 chili peppers…
Either way it would be neat to see these go to 500, but i bet we would have heard of it by now, unless theyre going to be used for legendary backpieces, which i doubt
Its always been full of people selling groups. Lame, but its been confirmed working as intended by devs and not bannable.
At least they took a hard line against actually selling items on lfg. A few months back it was flooded with “selling bifrost 2k gold i’m totally not a scammer wink wink” (and some of them really did add “i’m not a scammer” to these, though i dont think they had the winks).
Its not that hard to figure out this. He and a friend did LS part 8, had a really tough time, didnt get any good rewards, and are annoyed.
You do in fact get something good from the living story steps (ascended nomads accessories for parts 1-4, sinister ones for 5-8) but it is from the achievements, not from just completing it. And since you had a hard time just completing it, I wouldnt bother with the achievements unless you get a group to help you, which you can do in the lfg window, but it might be a long wait since that content came out almost a year ago.
Did you post in the open world content section of lfg, or in the personal story section? I know you technically should post in the personal story part, but no one ever seems to read that, and you will probably get way faster groups in the open world one. I did this like a month ago and got a group in minutes, so either you have really terrible luck, which is possible, or this is the problem.
A single ps war getting a full party 20-25 stacks is silly, not b/c they dont have to give up dps for it (they do obviously), but it makes every other class might stacking seem worthless. guards have to give up a lot to get empowering might, and they can keep up a whole 5 might stacks with it! I know comparing stuff between classes is the biggest taboo ever, but if 2 classes have almost the same trait, and one of them is five times more effective, doesnt that say something (and by something, I mean less OMG NERF WARRIORS but more buff other classes)
Nerfing might but doing nothing else is a bad idea. Spreading it around is a good one. Give every class the ability to spec for sharing ~10 stacks (at a loss of personal dps). If they did this I wouldnt even care if PS got nerfed or not. The meta would probably still be war/3 eles/xxx, but it would be more interesting.

Ele and thief are pretty much the top choices for a class thats wanted almost everywhere (thieves arent wanted in wvw zergs, but they are good for roaming/scouting) and has a decent skillcap, so its really up to you. Theyre really different playstyles so look through some guides on the class forums to get a better idea
If you are getting HOT then id go with the thief, their specialization looks way cooler (melee staff) than what eles get (lol warhorn), and looking cool is pretty much all that matters in this game
The longer it takes to come back the better. No point in using it when its not exclusive anymore.
Lol, that’s completely ridiculous.
Instead of a walking trophy rack to try and impress people, why not make an actual nice look for your character instead? I mean, sure I could put on a Dragon Helm with Tequatl Holo Wings, an Apostle Robe and Heritage Chest or whatever – it would ‘show the world’ that I was there for two events, accidentally unlocked some old pvp stuff and own GW1 – but I’d look like an eyesore. I don’t understand this kind of thinking at all.

“Signs and symptoms[edit]
People with narcissistic personality disorder are characterized by exaggerated feelings of self-importance. They have a sense of entitlement and demonstrate grandiosity in their beliefs and behavior. They have a strong need for admiration, but lack feelings of empathy.”
I spent way to much on this event, and by the jumpo in gem conversion, people enjoyed it
Yes, but like 6 people on the forums didnt get the items they wanted, so clearly it was a failure. I hope anet gets the message and not only fires the person who came up with it, but sends every gaming company a copy of this thread so they never get hired again and have to go work at mcdonalds.
I dont know if il do this myself, but i found insta 60 is a good way to start a new class. That way you can do map completion in the 60-70 zones, followed by frostgorge and orr, plus some of the ps (if you like that stuff) or just a bit of eotm + crafting to get the last levels. Doing 80 zones on a lvl 70 in greens is a decent challenge to help learn the class, plus the map complete rewards are good at 70+, not to mention its cheap a play around with different gear sets before you have to get exotics at 80.
Ofc thats for a casual pve player. If youre going to jump right into wvw/fractals/ect., no need to wait til hitting 80
Also, to add to your checklist, id add some good hammer/staff/sword skins so you can stand out from the other 1000000 revs on launch day, since skins are almost certainly going to skyrocket in price by then.
(edited by Sizer.3987)
2 would be impossible to make everyone happy, with the “elitists” demanding 500 hours of grind to get 1 skin and "casuals’ wanting it in under 10 (hyperbole here, but not by much). Same with rewards dependent only on personal contribution – people in organized guilds want events that require coordination (aka wurm, old teq, ect.), and pugs want something anyone can hop in and do easily (aka world bosses, VW, ect.).
Other stuff like better scaling, rewards you dont lose on a DC, or forcing people to hop between events to get max rewards (while ppl who stay for the whole event get nothing extra) are pretty needed.
But hey, as much as people refuse to admit it, the devs do read the forums, so id hope some of feedback like this goes into preventing the same mistakes in HOT.
The two times i did these events yesterday i had no problem getting to around 10-12 stacks without ever leaving an event early. Thats 30 blooms (counting the daily, since im not going to be online for 6 hours to do each map more than once) compared to 35, so good enough for me. I mean if you NEED the selfless potions you have to go crazy building up stacks, but otherwise its way more relaxing to just do it normally.
Also considering the mobs die in like 3 seconds and events never fail even with people skipping, dont feel too bad. Its “selfish”, but it isnt really, not like say, running a dungeon with 3 guildies and 2 pugs, then kicking the pugs at the end to sell the spots, or something like that. Its poor design, but its not that poor, it would be much worse if you literally would fail events due to people leaving early, so it could be worse…
Id bet its either a stress test or a rushed event to try to appease the people demanding temporary content before HOT launches. Either way seems like a bad idea to do on a live server in such a short timeframe.
The event came out yesterday, and bugfixes to it (not perfect fixes, but a start) came out less than 24 hours later. I dont care if HOT is buggy (btw, 10000 gold to whoever can point out a major mmo launch that had no bugs), if stuff gets fixed in a reasonable amount of time then who cares.
If anything was poorly done by anet, it was deciding to even release something like this in the first place. Seriously, even if it wasnt buggy, did anyone expect this event to be different than a giant zergfest?
Better to ignore the people whining for temporary content for something to do before the xpac launches and spend that development time on bug testing permanent content that will come out next month.
So people would be opposed to flying creatures attacking them and trying to drive them out of the sky to a falling death? Honestly I would expect this in HoT. Maybe I am wrong.
As for smashing 1-5 and taking forever to kill stuff underwater type comments. Maybe get a decent weapon for underwater? Maybe learn what underwater skills even do? Mesmer, warrior, ranger are the 3 classes I’ve had any practice underwater with and they kill pretty fast but I generally run glass stats so I don’t know how some of the softer hitting classes like guardian would feel like in say knights gear or worse, clerics.
Most of the professions are great underwater (necros are insane there, so are engies/mesmers, and the rest are more than capable i think). But people just dont seem to like it, like for ex. the aquatic ruins fractal is practically faster than doing swamp, but people will sit there for 20 minutes rerolling until they get swamp just to avoid it.
Its not without its bugs/annoyances, but i still find it fun even though theres like no content worth doing underwater once you have map completion. Maybe people will like gliding enough that the expansion after this one will have more of it

I can understand where ANet is coming from with the lack of normal loot, they are looking to avoid what happen with the clockwork invasion where many players said stuff the event, lets just spawn and fight champs.Tower of Nightmares event was a tuned (nerfed) version of clockwork invasion, almost no loot from mobs except the currency used then – Pristine Toxic Spore Sample – that was both dropped from mobs and gathered from plants. It was deemed no fun because of it and most players stopped doing it when they got the achievements after a few days.
That kitten happened 2 years ago and ANet have learned nothing from that experience and are instead continuing evolving their game in a neverending repulsive direction.
What we have now with the Mordrems are 10 times worse. Not only the most simplified events I can think of seeing in this game, then there’s the 30 min play/30 min waiting going on, with abysmal rewards (or none so far). They also encourage the event jumping introduced on the new maps as the most efficient way to gain the currency.
Just LOL at the fools putting these events together.
I for one ran through tower of nightmares basically every night for the duration of that event just for fun, and every time i did so it was packed full of players (and that before megaserver.
Havent had a chance to play these current events, not sure if ill like them or not (probably wont, they sound boring), but please stop acting like everyone else agrees with your opinions. They dont.
BL keys already happened, i think it was last friday or saturday for one day only. Sorry you missed it but thats how these temporary sales go.
Like other people said yes you need extractors to get your infusions back
HOWEVER, salvaging ascended armor is apparently going to be a thing. Id imagine you would lose all infusions/runes when you do so (if they put in an equiv of the bltc salvage kit for ascended items with 100% to get infusions back, people who already bought extractors will be kittened), but who knows what will happen, so i would wait til the expansion to do anything.
The purpose of endgame is to get enough skins/dyes/ect. so your character is the best looking one in the new maps when they come out.
Well its that or do silly things like pvp/wvw/fractals/ect., but cosmetics is really where its at in this game.
Gallant and dwayna are great since every other “good” skin in this game is overloaded with too many effects. But if I had to pick one with effects it would either be fused (if only they would come back so I could afford one!) or tempest.
In soviet russia, video game company pays you!
Not meaning that as a joke (and its a terrible joke if it was), but that communism is pretty much the only system where companies goal isnt to make money off their customers.

You played the game for 3 years for just $60, thats pretty good value for money (thats barely 2 weekends out with friends). The F2P version will bring in many more players to strengthen all aspects of our game, its a brilliant thing for new players and I am very happy to have more people enjoying Tyria.
Veterans aren’t being cheated; 3 years of play, special events, free LS2, unrestricted access to features.
The thing is nothing is stopping you grabbing an extra account yourself if you want to enjoy some community run “permadeath” or “hardmode” leveling experiences such as the one Wooden Potatoes is working on. You have access to this offer too remember.
$60 lasts two full weekends? Must be living in the midwest, in bigger cities that will last you like 1 night at best.
Its like what I always told people when they act surprised I paid a whole $15/month for mmo subs, if you do the math out even for 20 hrs/wk it comes out to under 25 cents/hour, which is basically cheapest hobby you can get (minus laying in the grass watching the clouds go by)
If youre a “vet” and played 3 years then your $60 comes out to like $1.50 a month which is literally a whole two cents per hour. And there are still hundreds of people complaining they didnt get enough value out of it. Go figure…
Seems like the devs already have a solution to this in how fractals are set up. “casual” players can do 1-9 fractals and earn relics slowly, “elite” ppl can do 50-100 ones and get faster rewards, so casuals can get the same content + items but itl take longer
if raids work a similar way I dont see how everyone couldnt be happy. elitists will get the rewards in a week, casuals will take 2-3 months to learn the fights and save up enough currency, and if there is a new raid every 3 months elitists will always have something to show off while casuals will always have something to work for.
having stuff locked behind lvl 100 fracts (or the equiv in raids) and not obtainable any other way is a bad idea. Like really really bad, not to mention how bad it is to spend money on content that only 1% of players will get to.
+1 to this being a great change, especially as someone who has been playing multiple accounts (all bought at orig price) since launch. 3 years of server maintenance + updates is more than enough of a reward for me in exchange for paying that $50.
That said I hope the devs are watching how this works in wvw carefully, I dont play it more than a few hours a month but that seems the game mode that can be most screwed up by free accounts.
