Players: What the kitten is with all the visual clutter, i cant even see the enemy im fighting 90% of the time!
Devs: Ok we heard you, we’re going to nerf the visual clutter so its easier to see.
Players: WTF devs why did you nerf the visual clutter omgz u ruined the game why are the original devs gone the new ones suck kitten and they dont even respond to my threads omgz!!!
Devs: ………………………….
Fractals are the new dungeons.
Raids will become the new “hardcore” content
Dungeons are no longer being developed (ie they wont get changed)
So yes, you are correct when you say “dungeons will become the boring part of the personal story”. And honestly, thats a good move imo. Dungeons are too broken to have them waste 6 months fixing all of them and trying to rebalance the rewards for the rest of the game. Better off abandoning it and moving on to new stuff.
The patch came out a month ago. Meaning not a lot people have gotten into precursor crafting, and also that the ascended mats youre looking at are really inflated in price. Once more people start crafting them (and buying lower priced pre’s to sell them higher) the prices of buying on the AH and the cost of making one will start to move closer together. Just wait or buy it now if youre that impatient.
Besides how else would it work? Would yout wan the cost of the crafting recipe to change daily based on the cost of materials? Because yea, that would be just a terrible, terrible idea.
Maybe I don’t give two craps about “there are more good places to get lots of gold”, this plain and simply is lies perpetrated by anet – “we want you to play however you enjoy playing”, LIES, because now I can’t do what I enjoy doing to earn “money”. I “HAVE” to do X Y or Z instead of A B or C, THEY decided that, and makes that statement of theirs a LIE. period full stop!
Sorry but youre misreading that “play how I want”. Its PLAY how you want, not BE REWARDED how you want.
I want 10 gold an hour running jumping puzzles, and guess what! I cant do it. Too bad for me. You want to make 10 gold an hour speedrunning dungeons? Too bad, cant do it.
Got to live with it because they arent designing the entire economy (and yes, the gold you make effects the entire economy, so if they revert this change it would be screwing over every other player) around what YOU want.
Is this new? Like new as in this weeks patch? I did a solid 4 hours of sw both days last weekend to work on my legendary, and i got plenty of event credit from just tagging a mob here and there and running off to keep chest training, just like it used to work.
If it is working like the OP is describing thats great, and how it should have always worked.
Old dungeon rewards were balanced to the old economy. You arent getting less rewards just because the devs hate you or are too lazy to think of a way to implement them. Youre getting less rewards because if you got more the amount of gold coming into the economy would screw over people playing HOT content.
I’m all for some other reward (heck just up the number of tokens you get per run and/or add more guaranteed rares so you can get more salvagable mats out of it). But it cant give flat gold like it used to. Just wouldnt work.
The volcano in mount malestorm might be close, try jumping from where the vista is.
There is also that jumping puzzle in metrica that takes place in the air above the zone, not sure if that would work.
Dont regret it at all, and ive barely gotten through the second new zone (not that i dont like it, just dont have time). Sure its not a massive amount of content for 50 bucks, but if you count 2 years worth of updates its plenty
I guess if i was the kind of person who jumps from game to game every week and only judges them by the content available NOW, then yea, it would be a little overpriced, but if youre going to judge games like that you might as well stick to single player stuff where they get released fully polished and complete (even though they dont, since most games nowadays come with dlc)
Wait it really isnt aoe? That is seriously disappointing. I mean it might have been a tad OP especially with boon duration from heralds and f5, but still. I guess you can get use out of it if you run boonsharing, but eh, doesnt seem worth it.
But hey, thanks for telling us, at least I wont waste gold on it now.
Anyone else find it ironic that he complains about a bunch of either incorrect or just ridiculous things (oh noes you have to do things to unlock other things in a video game, what happened to no grind rabble rabble rabble!!!!), but the parts of the game that are actually unfinished (ie raids, new legendary weaps) arent mentioned at all?
Have you looked at the price of mats lately, especially t6 ones? Most of them are below 20s (down from 40-50s) and even powerful blood is down to 50s and dropping (used to be 60-70s). So you get less gold from dungeons, but if you can buy mats for 1/2 to 1/3rd the price of before its not that big of a nerf. Might take a while for all mats (esp ascended mats) to go down, but they will in time.
Imo the lack of people running dungeons is either everyone being busy with HOT content (more likely) or the dungeon runners are still too kitteny about the “nerf” to realize it wasnt that big of a nerf after all (less likely, but i bet it still happens)
Did you really say its reasonable to get 250 lodestones just by farming dungeons? Really? Even a serious dungeon runner would take a year to get that many from farming dungeons.
Its a gold wall. Simple as that. Doesnt mean thats bad, the game needs stuff like this to give mats value and to give people something long term to work for. But dont call it something else.
Actually most “casuals” by definition dont spend time on the forums, so theres really no way to tell what they want. This is why its sometimes a bad idea to listen to the forum “majority”. I mean not in this case, who cares if its easier to do something that would have taken a week at most the old way, but come on, saying you know what the majority really wants is just silly.
I didnt have a problem with it being 400 (was already up to grandmaster traits on the only 2 toons I play, and i havent put in more than 3-4 hrs a day so far), but this seems like a good change to keep all the angry kiddies happy without giving up too much in terms of long term goals.
Now if they gut how long it takes to get masteries and nerf mob damage in new zones you could say they are pandering to the “casuals”, but i doubt that will happen.
Of course it crashed. Why do you think they announced a dungeon gold nerf on the same day there was a dev post that basically said “the upcoming changes are going to screw over the market for a few weeks until it settles again, so watch out!” (paraphrasing, but you get the point).
For the average player that doesnt have more than 50g saved up at any given time, its probably a good thing in the end, and for the smart speculators who sold early, its also a good thing, so really the only ones screwed over are the bad speculators (not going to lie, I count in here, probably lost 500g already), and to them, well, thats the downpoint of speculating, it can go wrong sometimes.
Atm i have 42 mastery points and there are 26 available to unlock (and probably more i cant see). Subtract the 8 that came from world bosses and thats 34 of the 48 to finish all the tracks. So more than enough available to skip them.
XP is going to be a lot harder to get, thats what you should be complaining about if you have to complain about something.
“No grind” never meant you would never have to do anything to access content. It just meant there would be no gear grind (ie vertical progression), it didnt mean there would never be horizontal progression (ie what we have now). I mean yea, if you want to call it “content stretching” instead of horizontal progression, you arent wrong, but thats how the game was always intended to be.
Sorry you misinterpreted it and wasted your 50 bucks, but have fun in your next game.
I know right? I went to queensdale and killed moas for an hour and i didnt even have every mastery unlocked! Dont these devs know what “play how you want” means!!!
So instead of posting in the thread about this exact topic in the dungeon forum section you had to come here to talk about it?
Things like that make the endless whining of dungeon farmers a lot harder to take seriously.
Using the example of dungeons to illustrate a point does not make the thread about dungeons. Perhaps you should invest in some reading lessons if you are not able to understand the OP.
Then what is this thread about? Fractals are HOT content. So you need to buy HOT to get access to the full experience. The main non-HOT content that was heavily nerfed was dungeons.
So either he is complaining about dungeons, which there are other threads about, or he is complaining about fractals, which makes zero sense, as you SHOULD need to buy the expansion to get access to content related to it.
Maybe you get some of these reading lessons you mentioned.
So instead of posting in the thread about this exact topic in the dungeon forum section you had to come here to talk about it?
Things like that make the endless whining of dungeon farmers a lot harder to take seriously.
And meanwhile Silverwastes Chest [F]arm brainless activity still going strong.
Pathetic really
t6 mats are going to drop way down in price, which is a big indirect nerf to SW. Might not be a 66% nerf, but it will be a big one. So its not like dungeons are the only part of the game thats changing.
So you spent what, a whole hour doing fractals and didnt get rewarded 20 gold from it? Shocking.
Flat gold gains throughout the entire game were nerfed. Going to take a few weeks for the economy to stabilize, and i know this isnt what people want to hear, but if you cant handle it go play a different game for a month and come back.
So the OP spent hundreds of hours to get 2 legendaries (which require map completion themselves), but he is going to complain about the 2 hours (by his words 200 skill points will only take an hour) it will take to get hero points to finish the elite spec just because the hero points he got from the core map completion (which again, he needed for legendaries) took longer than 2 hours to get? Right…………….
Also, gift of mastery will be salvageable. Just fyi.

Depends on how long the hero points in the new zones will take to get. 40 of them sounds like a lot, but if theyre like the ones in the old zones, you can run through a few maps and get 40 on an alt in like an hour (I know, youll have to play for an hour to unlock things, what a horrible grind!). Yea the first time through you will have to explore the zone first and probably unlock gliding to get to some, but for alts i bet you can do almost all of them in 2 hours tops.
Unless they take like an hour each to do, which would be 40 hours (still probably less time it takes to hit the new levelcap in other mmos), and in that case it would be terrible, and id agree fully with the OP.
Not sure why everyone is so kittened at elite specs actually requiring stuff to unlock. Its not like when you bought the base game you got a free level 80 with all your traits unlocked and could do lvl 80 content the first hour. Yet suddenly people feel like they should be able to unlock everything in HOT in the first day? Odd.
Anyway, I second the OP, even though no one takes the forum trolls very seriously (though they are entertaining) someone has got to post something positive every once in a while.
I know right, HOT will end up costing a full half of what i pay for internet every month! So expensive! Though I guess people who live in a magical land where high speed internet is under $10 per month wouldnt agree….
Also, to reiterate what others said, its very unlikely anet will sell it themselves on sale til at least next summer if not next fall for the 1 yr anniversary (I dont remember any official sales on the base game before at least a year passed, but i could be wrong). You can find it cheaper somewhere else but make sure its a legit site, if its some shady gold selling site the odds of getting scammed arent worth saving 20 bucks.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Ascended-Gear-to-be-Required-for-Raids/page/18
Already almost a thousand posts about this, no need to make a new thread (even though that one isnt on the front page of the HOT section, its still less than a week since last post)
But to sum it up, the short answer is no, ascended is not required (recommended has a different meaning from required in the english language, look it up sometime), and everything in the game other than fractals will still be doable in exotics. That doesnt mean it wont help (it will, but most of the stat gain is weapons/trinkets), and that people wont kick pugs from groups for not having ascended (they will, but they already do now), but still, its not “required”.
And as far as silk requirements, it hasnt been stated that anything will change, but they are working on balancing salvaging rates and the economy as a whole, so its a remote possibility that it goes down to 75 silk per, or something, though i wouldnt bet on it.

Easy. Start as chrono. Get as many illusions up as you can, and pop continuum split (ideally with enough up to give you a few days worth of time). Then in the duration of that, switch to herald/reaper/ect., and play that. Then hit f5 to go back in time a few days and do it again with another class, and so on and so forth, until you get bored, and then finally play chrono itself for a while. Until you get bored of that, at which point id suggest casting time warp on the devs so they get the next expansion out faster.
That is that what the OP meant by effecting me in RL, right?
The only concrete news so far (i think )affecting old loot tables is that salvaging of blues/greens will be getting nerfed, so it might be better to open now.
But who knows, there might be new exotics or mats or w/e added, so yea, its definitely a gamble either way.
Cant believe I havent seen this post til now. Best. News. Ever.
Really, it made my week. So awesome I dont even have any more words to describe it.
Also, something this big should really make the front page. I can imagine tons of rangers and necros who quit years ago seeing it and instantly coming back to the game and buying HOT.
I detest grinds, and I detest luck.
No sentence has summed up these forums with more truthiness than this one (hey, truthiness doesnt come up as misspelled in chrome, neat). But hate it or not, no way around it.
Also, to your question about choosing what your xp goes to, yes you will be able to.
Has dungeon xp nerf been confirmed? I know the gold nerf was talked about, and its not far off to assume xp will be nerfed too, but its possible xp will stay the same.
Otherwise, it sucks to have to do this, but pop all your boosters and xp food and head to eotm. You can get 5+ levels an hour when leveling an alt so it should be pretty quick if it doesnt get nerfed.
I dont get it. Did anet state legendary gear will be getting higher stats now? What is this “gear ladder” the OP is talking about?
they gave you about half a year of notice before they became unnobtainable, if you couldn’t be bothered, too bad, if you weren’t playing back then, too bad.
but its not like it suddenly went “AWOL”…i hate this “special snowflake” argument because you couldn’t be bothered when you had the chance and want to ruin it for those of us that did.
instead of calling people “special snowflakes” how about next time you want something limited, you go and earn it instead of coming back 2 years later when you’ve finally decided you can be bothered.
signed,
one of those “special snowflakes” that took the time to unlock Tribal, Greatsaw, Super weapon skins that you folks are always trying to ruin.
So your whole argument is “if you werent playing back then, too bad”? No wonder people call you a “special” snowflake and dont take you seriously.
Theres no loss to bringing these skins back except for the egos of people like this guy. And if you cant make everyone happy, id go with making the hundreds of people who want the skins instead of the few angry trolls who want them to be exclusive so they can feel good about themselves.
Bringing them back doesn’t mean handing them out to everyone for zero effort.
Doesnt matter what arguments you had following this statement, people who are against bringing back old rewards will read this line, think it means the exact opposite of what it says, and complain for 10 pages about how items are only good if they have “exclusivity” and people shouldnt get stuff for free and blah blah blah.
Same thing happens in every thread like this.
Really good idea considering the cost you have to invest (if i spend 6 months working on a weapon itd be nice to get stat switching on any character instead of just the skin), but I doubt anet will ever go for something like this. At least not for a while.
Not to mention all the people who will oppose it (even though it wont hurt them at all) and will just say “but if you want to use it twice just make 2 legendaries duh brah its ez!”.
Do you have a point in making this post or did you just feel the need to vent?
No, but he is raging about other people raging, so it cancels out and therefore means his post is not mindless venting but is in fact carefully thought out and intelligent commentary.
Thats how it works, right?
There will be new runes but somehow i doubt there will be ones similar to the runes of the elementalist/mesmer/ect (it would be really cool, although something so specific as “+% damage in reaper shroud” would be bad since other classes wouldnt get any use out of them)
If anything I hope the old class specific runes are made a lot better. Some of them arent that bad, but some of them are just awful.
sellruns happen because you can compelete content without the intended group size, so either you can complete the raids with 9 people or the one who buys it needs to be useful
people who know the raid won’t buy it, or sell runs won’t happen or they will be extremly expensiveThat’s why you’d start seeing some disgusting people grouping up with friends and kicking people, and then pulling in new members for big profit.
This would definitely be a huge issue post HoT if devs do not think of methods to counter it.
I hope they already thought of this and made kicking require more than 3 people. Otherwise, well, 3 guildies kicking 7 pugs and selling all the spots will become pretty common.
Dunno, how long do raids take for decent groups. An hour?
If thats the case I expect the first sell listings to go up about an hour and one minute after they come out. Cant really blame them since anet allows it and people will be more than willing to pay to get shinies before anyone else, even if it is 100g per run.
Seems like the OP’s problem is his crafting level isnt at 500 yet.
And not that you asked, but as some advice, if you dont have any crafting levels near 500, id just forget about it (takes like 100g to level them all the way), and make a cheaper ascended back instead. The fractal one and several others (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Back_item) dont require any crafting or vision crystals.

I know right? I just hooked up my n64 the other day and started playing ocarina of time (after blowing on the cartridge for an hour), and I couldnt even equip the master sword right away! I had to go through all the starter dungeons first before I could play the game. kitten game developers, even back in the 90’s they were stopping us from playing how we want!
There are still like a million active players left. Ok, kind of guessing/exaggerating, but there must be 100k at least. And even if 1% of those players are in old maps, that still leaves at least few dozen per each map, and with the megaserver (if its working right) they will all get put into the same instance, so seems unlikely youll ever be alone.
6 months from now, this might not be true, but from now til like january this games population is going to be huge
Not sure if you are a returning player who missed all the news about the megaserver (if you are check the wiki on what it is), but the short version is that your server has absolutely nothing to do with the guilds you can join.
The exception of course is if you are looking for a wvw guild, which it doesnt seem like as you mentioned raids, but if thats the case (i’m sure it is for some people, especially ones on the bottom tier servers) I sympathize and really hope anet puts in free server transfers soon, at least for the bottom 3 servers.
Don’t think of other players as hostile. Some can be, but not all and that’s not the point.
Elitism is certainly not the reason ArenaNet decided to nerf dungeon rewards. When developers talk about breaking the meta, they are not condemning the players for creating it. They are trying to make new content that will be a new experience and a new challenge for those same players.
So think of it like:
“Good job, now see if you can beat THIS!”It’s not meant as a form of punishment to crack down on elitism. The creation of challenging content is meant to reward players who have developed their skills with new content better suited for them. The phasing out of old content rewards is to remove the motivation to ignore the new content because of easier rewards in the old content.
Except they basically said " you guys are making too much money over there – we’re taking it away" – and I understand why.
Now mark my words – the new content will not be as rewarding as dungeons per amount of time spent – so essentially this is a farm nerf veiled as “we want to motivate you to do our newer content” – which will most likely have less rewards than the old dungeons.
I dont see the difference. If dungeons were giving more gold than new content people wouldnt even need to do the new stuff besides running it for a week for achievements. Its definitely a farm nerf, but its also moving ppl to new content. No reason it cant be both.
Also technically fractals are not new content, unless there is a new fractal or two thrown in, but even then only like 2/15 of them will be new (here’s to hoping there are new ones soon!)
You arent wrong about the steep learning curve in pvp. And its surprising nothing has been done about it, I mean matchmaking is supposedly a lot better now so you will only fight new players at low ranks, but still, with the effort that went into the NPE for the pve side of the game (which was never difficult to begin with), youd think some effort would go into making pvp more new player friendly.
Of course youre going to get people coming in here and saying “omgz why people complaining learning pvp takes effort” and “just read every page on the wiki and pvp 4 hours a day for 6 months and youll learn it eventually its ez!” and so on, and theyre not wrong, that is the way to learn it, and it should take a lot of time. But again, its surprising all the effort went into the NPE for pve and almost nothing happened for pvp
Ive had this happen to me a few times. A lot of the time I dont get kicked and they just start a dungeon on their own, and i wont figure it out until they start talking in /p about something dungeon related.
Could has something to do with people who dont know how to use LFG and just put everything in the open world section, and then somehow misclick on your group. Not really a bad thing (unless they start sending you hate tells too), but it is odd.
Just reiterating what others have said, but HOT is not an “event”. It is permanent content. Halloween on the other hand is a 2 week long “event”.
I’m still disappointed that we will only get ~2 weeks to do all the halloween stuff, but who cares about HOT content. It will be available during halloween for people who have time to do both, and for people who dont it will still be there in 2 weeks.
What I like about GW2 is there isn’t a ton of RNG and the little amount of RNG is generally known. We know what the ecto drop rate is supposed to be, dark matter drop rate, etc… However, they are now saying they want “more scarcity” and they need to “adjust salvage rates”. I highly doubt this is to the effect of “gosh, people are working too hard to get ecto”.
Seriously? Youve never spent 2 hours in silverwastes to get a bag full of rares, then salvaged those 50 rares to only get 10 ectos out of it? Man, I envy that.
This game is nothing but RNG. Seriously. Nothing. But. RNG.
