How come people still are claiming that farming is the only thing in this game?
I can’t realy see any point in farming in this game, why do you have to farm or grind?
Some people will always find ways to farm and grind in every rpg-game… It all comes to how quick you wan’t to be compleate, you could grind and farm your behind of in a week to kiss your Legendary hello or you could actually enjoy the game for what it is and achieve your Legendary when you have played this game long enough to deserv it.

There is no need to grind in this game and there is realy more conten’t to this game than just ascended gear, Legendary and gold.

Enjoy all the content of the game, if you don’t have fun then I would advice you to find a fun game.

To answer OP’s post.

This is an MMO so first of all you should find yourself a guild.

Second, you get experience for almost everything you do like; Crafting, Dailies, Killing, Reviving, Clear Tasks, finding new places, exploring all in all, Events and also you have to remember that going to maps that isn’t bound to your story or even maps that are lower levels than you still awards you with good amout of experience to level up and there are events everywhere to enjoy the story of the world.
Sell everything you get if you arent in to crafting sell all crafting mats too and go buy some armor for your level and your prefered stats.
I can tell you havent tried this game enough when you state that you level too slow in this game, in other games it takes almost a week for me to level to level 60 – 65 and in this game it takes me 2 hours max to level 5 livels, period.

But anyhow… the way you describe your feelings about this game is like you have made up your mind already.

After all that, what are you left with?

A farm/grind fest.

In the MMO I played before I had over 100 skills. I used 10-15 of them regularly while fighting.

GW2 currently has 80+ skills spanning the different classes/races, and people generally use 1 regularly. That is, 1 “autoattack”.

Everything you could do when you left, plus farm your kitten off for mats in huge zergs to make a new type of weapon and soonish armour.

So much fun, you’ll never get bored in this non-grindy MMO.

Those people who recently (past 2,3 weeks) transferred to those now free (or cost lowered) servers should demand a gem refund. How is this fair to them?

You, sir, made me lol pretty hard. Just ask the question to yourself while you pretend to be ANet and you will have the answer pretty quick.

In case you didn’t, I’ll answer it for you: It’s not fair, but, it makes us more money.

Read again. I said Gem refund, not cash refund. Anet will not lose any actual revenue. Maybe a lost of future potential revenue. But this beats having tons of angry customers that threatens to (or really) quit the game.

Do you have any idea how many guilds transferred around in the past few weeks due to the WvW league announcement? Do you have any idea how many angry players are out there right now?

The fact remains that they lose money, either now or in the future. Companies run on profit. This isn’t even on the table for consideration.

I know how many Guilds have transferred. I’m on a T1 server. I know how many players are angry as well. Even so, it won’t happen. Just look around the forums and it’s pretty obvious that those who are angry and/or complaining are “the minority.”

And isn’t one of the most popular phrases on this forum “If you don’t like it, then leave”? I’ve had it used on me quite a few times.

Amusing really.

By this logic, companies/stores would never want to put stuff on sale. Some do retroactively give refunds for a short time for stuff that they put on sale, but it’s not the norm in my experience.

Those companies and stores also do a better job of circulating their sales on this type of item than this company does.

Achievement Points and Alts

If chasing achievements isn’t fun then don’t do it. Simple.

The game is pretty much all about achievements. So this isn’t really an option.

Every 2 weeks a new tier of achivements are released. Dailies, monthlies, JPs, dungeons, WvW, ect, ect.
Everything you do on the game is tied to some sort of achievement.
So unless you’re suggesting people just stand in LA, there’s always an achievement chase.

I don’t do anything in the game related to achievements unless it gets me something I need(like dailies for laurels). In fact, I go out of my way to not do achievements. I think it’s the part of my educated brain that cries out in horror at the possibility of being a labrat to mindless, meaningless tasks.

And this here is what everyone needs to do. Sadly that is not the case and the result is what we get out of the LS defenders. Because after doing a certian amount of achievements, you get rewarded with a box in the lower right that, apparently, has all the fruits of your labour in it.

Actually, GW had speed clears and farming runs. And only people with a certain build would be allowed into the group.

I will agree that GW groups were more tolerant towards new players, teaching them how to run the role/run and such.

As it stands, this is just a preface to how it will be after full Ascended gear drops.

I was dedicated to Liadri, I beat her on the first night. I remember failing to her countless times the first night and giving up. I went to sleep that night but woke up 3 hours later thinking about Liadri and no matter how hard I tried I couldn’t sleep – I needed to finish that.

That night I stayed fighting her for 2 hours straight trying to beat her, many times I got to a sliver of her health and failed.

Eventually I managed to finally beat her and when I did I literally tossed myself on the floor from my chair, heart racing, eyes wide open. I was trembling like a mad man and my breath was so fast I had to lay down and take a moment – it was great!

I’m no expert, but, I would seriously think to get yourself checked. Just saying.

We just now got the first revamped open world boss and people already abandoning it due to its requirements.

They’re abandoning it because of the way it was implemented. As a LS element. People got their wings, and now they don’t care to work with each other anymore for it.

That’s the main problem here. Even when implementing 10/25 raids, people on GW2 just don’t know how to work with each other. It’s not the players fault really. It’s the way the game was introduced and how it’s implemented.

When you can jump in on anyone’s business without even a hello or anything, it promote a mentality such as this.

Hopefully, if ANet ever decides to throw raids into the game, they’ll add more things like Teq revamped to get people to actually work together for a bit without being kittens.

I really don’t understand people. I have been playing MMOs since UO first came out and it’s been the same thing in every public forum. Nothing but complaining. If you are not happy then go away. The OP was trying to voice his appreciation for a game and dev team that he enjoys.

Personally, I am still enjoying this game. I love the fact that there are content updates so frequently, even when it is content I am not fond of, such as SAB. Is it perfect? No, but then nothing is ever perfect. However, after a year I am still playing with only two of the character classes in this game not at max level, each fully decked out in at least exotic, and 1 with full ascended. I like the direction the game is going and I do not see me leaving this game anytime soon.

To the OP: I commend you on voicing your appreciation to a team that mostly only hears negativity for trying to create some enjoyment in the world. I am right there with you!

There is an old saying; “You will catch more flies with honey then you will with vinegar.” Some of you may want to think on that.

You, like all the white knights here, miss the actual problem.

The people who, like myself, voice their dislike for the game do it because of the time and money we’ve invested into the game itself. We were told “everything we like” about a game will be present, and in reality, it’s a kittenty kittening excuse for a game. It’s a bunch of children and old people who grind out APs for small rewards that, in the long run, mean nothing. There’s no incentive to do it other than that small box you get in the middle right hand corner with some kitten that’s purely there to keep people coming back every day. That’s not fun. Neither is tryharding my kitten off for mats to get to the next level of teir. And before you say “luls you don’t need it to do anything in the game l2p”, how long will it last? Really. Tell me how long before people in LFG will look for people only in full Ascended to get the fastest run possible without a hitch.

Tell me what kind of armour polish you use, if you don’t mind. I’d like to buy some so I can, for a day, act out of your shoes when regarding this game. I want to see what enjoyment is received from defending this game and all of it’s short comings with all of my might.

Paid more for gems than a sub fee this year?

If GW2 launched without the gem stores option to convert gems-gold, they would have lost a hell of a lot of revenue, revenue that is used to create things like Living World every 2 weeks, constant additions of art (it takes a lot of resources and time to design, create and implement a set of weapon skins), hiring more employees, upgrading and adding new tech, creating new and improved systems for the game and countless other things that most people are unaware of.

Revenue to do what?
Reconfigure the codes a small bit to add the same LS element every few weeks? Invasions, some baddie in some part of the world, and some horrible voice acting? Every 3rd or 4th month is when something really new comes out.

And the skins you talk about. Most of them are taken from GW and just given a different colour and a different name in most cases. There are a few that are new, but, most of them are just take from GW and thrown into GW2 with a sharpening filter on it.

Discuss!

I think it does. But for other reasons. I think the gem-store focus is effecting the game in a negative way. (gold-driven, collecting mini’s is not fun, no barber but hair in the shop, temporary content to try to get you to buy items and so on). I am willing to pay for a good game and if the focus would shift to expansions for income I think thats possible. Of course they should then also really make the change. If they only release an expansion but keep the gem-store focus that its still useless.

The cash shop is their child. It’s not going away until the very end of the game, which is when the servers go down and no one can log in anymore.

Think about how many people rush to “support the game and it’s amazing developers” every 2 weeks when something is introduced. It makes them a lot of cash, and that’s why LS is where the interest lies for ANet at this point in time.

I’d take it as a little icon next to my name like world completion but on the other side: “Hi, I am the guy paying for your free content. Enjoy.”

Have it expire 30 days after your last gem purchase.

Only 30 days? And maybe the color can change if you spend more how about that.

Of course “Hi, I am the guy paying for your free content. Enjoy.” is what you think when you see it. Thats fine!

You must understand that if I see that for me it says “Hi, I am the guy helping this game going downhill. Enjoy!”

But I guess you did get that.

Place it on the suggestion page. I will support it!

ArenaNet is still pumping out updates, listening to community feedback and making lots of positive changes that have really done a great job in improving the game.

Even the gem store has managed to stay consumer friendly and unimposing. If mistakes are made, the staff have no quarrel rectifying it in quick order. Just wanted to say how pleased I am with the direction Guild Wars 2 continues to take. Keep up the amazing work.

It was a general ‘we.’ A lot of people on these forums did cry for those things, though not necessarily you or me . I wish the stupid search function worked. There have been numerous threads about gear progression (“Gear grind or people leave” is one I commented on a long while back. There have been plenty more), about raiding (Was just one asking if Tequatl was anets answer to raid like content in the LS forums), etc. (Starting to think I’m on here too much… but darn it, work is boring when you’re waiting for code to compile!)

I don’t know how much was asked for in game. I mean I saw requests for some of it, which started some heated debates in LA, but it wasn’t as ‘loud’ as on here.

Yes, the forum is a vocal minority, but we don’t know where else they are taking feedback from. Only they have the actual numbers and metrics.

My theory now is also that we next get instanced raiding because so much people now asked for it because of Tequatl, even since before very much people were strictly against that. But now ANet could say : hey .. you asked for that.

People where against it? I have seen people asking for it even before beta when Anet announced that they only worked with dungeons for 5 people. We can only hope to finally get some good raid stuff.

Yes. Mostly from people who are stuck on WoW because it’s a game they’ll never get to play because it’s a P2P game. Or from those who were bads on the same game and always failed at raids.

I just threw WoW in there, there’s many other MMOs that have raids, but again, it’s the same thing. “GW2 is different.”

At this point in time, I fail to see what is so vastly different from those games and GW2 that people still say this.

This model might help with keeping players that play the game in game. But it will not attract new players to the game.

May I ask how would expansions help to increase the population? Instead of buying one game a new player would be forced to buy years of expansions, therefore chances are more people would be scared away from it.

Expansions bring more areas, races, skills, content that isn’t temporary along with it. If people saw a race they like they’ll hop on board and buy it pretty quick. And for a while they’ll be sedated with the content and areas that are released along with it.

Well, some players. I know I was happier with the game before.

Correction: the large majority of players.

If you were here back then you’d know 90% of this forum was asking for treadmills and whatnot.

No.

I’ve been here from the beginning. There were some threads complaining about “no endgame” from the content locusts. It wasn’t nearly as huge as you’re making out. And only a fraction of those were specifically asking for new tiers of loot. Most of them were just asking for something new to do.

Crazy how people expressing dislike of ascended weapons and armor are a vocal minority, because people who enjoy the game play it instead of posting on forums, but forum complaints about the need for new gear levels to chase somehow represented a vast portion of the players.

This is true. People were asking for new gear styles, not what Ascended brought along with it, i.e., cosmetics.

And they were also asking for more endgame which wasn’t Malchor’s, Orr, or Frostgorge. Truth be told, GW2 has almost no endgame. Players wanted something to do that didn’t involve only doing dailies and dungeons or WvW after 80.

Instead we got what we have now, and it’s pretty kittenty.

Edit: Draco pretty much beat me to it.

How to get a free new hairstyle:

Delete main (or one of your other characters) after backing up any non-soulbound items.
Create a new character of the race in which you would like the new hairstyle.
Explore the game again and on a brand new level 2 character (20 with booster).

Disclamer: The poster holds no responsibility to lost time, levels, and/or items; please enjoy your new look.

Doubt rolling a new character will net you these styles. Though you are right. You will get a change. Just probably not the one you were hoping from if it’s in this new palette.

ESO has dodging, TERA does, TSW does as well.

Raiding might be something, but you’re basically zerging champs to grab mats to get the current highest gear for hours at a time.
Running Fractals a while back to get all the Ascended items.

How long do you presume PUGs will be until they start asking you to ping all your Ascended gear before getting into the newest dungeon group?
They already did it with Beserkers, and to a certain extent, still do.

Why? Because you personally do not like the game? One of my professors already told us that he hopes that we will create something unique, instead of repeating the same mainstream stagnant games. Why? Because variety is a good thing, all people in the world can not share the same opinion and the same taste. You don’t like it. Fair enough. Some of us do. Therefore we play it and you’re free to choose from a variety of other games.

Actually yes, you can ignore every mechanic in dungeons.

There are hardly any mechanics to ignore to begin with. Go in an hit 1. Tap WASD a couple of times and you’re basically a pro at the game.

Expansion dodging

The LS nets them more profits for a little bit of work. That’s why an expansion isn’t their priority right now. All that temporary content compels people to come back to finish them because they miss out on rewards, namely some kittenty kittening wings and achievements. In coming back, something catches their eye on the TP, an everlasting weapon or skin and they get it.

With an expansion, the expense is more than you’d expect, and they aren’t willing to spend that type of money until profits are maxed and a vast majority of the masses will say LS is getting boring. Which should’ve been about 6 months ago.

Lol’d at free DLC. That’s a good one.

Amusing to say the least.

you must be active and not sit there and hit the same buttons in a set way over and over

Nice point. You just hit 1 once and then you find something to occupy about a minute’s worth of time and occasionally come back to hit 6. Not like you have to worry about any sort of mechanic or anything either.

Basically it means that if Anet doesn’t do something about this (and the skill lagg and the blobbing), they’ll loose a maior part of the PvP community to other games that have a better competitive system.

PvP isn’t their focus. PvE and the LS makes them the most revenue and that’s where most of their resources go to.

Face it. sPvP is an afterthought, generally ignored, and WvW is just there to satisfy the need of modern MMOs to have a large scale PvP mode.

You’ll get mixed reponses. I, for one, think the game is pretty boring and others will say it’s the best MMO they’ve ever played.

In a situation like this, play it yourself and see if you like it or not. You’ve already tried again and found that it’s not as fun.

End game is still the same as when you first started. You explore, do the dailies, farm some champs, and whatever else. There’s no 10/25 N/H raids, and there never will be.

Just give it a shot for a couple of days. You’ll know soon enough without having the die hard defenders and the people who don’t like it filling your thread swaying you.

Yeah. Take a break. Come back and realize the game is still boring because 85% of the content updates have been recycled content that you’ve done before, only now you get a different reward and you’re in a different zone. By the time you’re back, they’ll have a new grind method for you to enjoy for a bit. Maybe instead of champs, you’ll be farming the critters that inhabit the areas.

Uh..what real efforts have they made to fix things?
The small scale skill balances? Or the massive grindfest they recently introduced?

Enlighten us on what you believe they’ve fixed because I would really like to know. You’ve got the stage.

Or prepping for the Koreans and Chinese that love kitten like that. Normal people term it “gold farming”.

I’ve only noticed overflows in LA on Saturdays. I play on JQ btw.

And server cap raised = more overflows. Makes sense. Do go on.

Did we play the same GW1? Groups pretty much demanded cookie cutter setups for dungeons there, though at least there were a few different cookie cutters that might need to be used depending on the mobs you faced (IE, no Searing Flames against destroyers — thank god, most boring ele build ever).

I feel much more flexible here tbh.

If you SC’d, then yea, there were pretty much cookie cutter builds used to make the run as fast as possible. Hence the name Speed Clear.

If you went in with heroes or friends, you had way more options just by taking a different profession.

More flexible how? 5 skills are chosen for you. The 6th which is a heal. That leaves 4 slots that provide maybe 5 skills that are useful in situations outside of PvP and maybe 3 elites that are considerable.

They’ve basically said they were going to add more utility skills…

Imagine a 4th tier that requires you have all of the 1, 3 and 6 point class skills and they cost about 80 skill points each. That could take a while to fill in even with a pile of skill point scrolls from champ farming. How about a 3rd tier of Elite skill choices at 100 skill points each?

Or having to cough up 200 skill points to enable the use of a new weapon type. That would DEFINITEY create some horizontal progression that’s far from quick.

Or 50 point a whack to unlock new traits beyond the I to XII we have now.

There’s still quite a bit of horizontal progression that can be added inside the current cap.

Which would only cause more kittening to ensue.

I almost agree. I’d certainly agree if people would stop using the word promise. Statements are not promises…

Pretty sure the Manifesto and all these blog posts were all promises.

At the very least, if my friend tried this sort of logic to weasel out of something without a sarcastic smirk on his face, I’d start to seriously question my judgment in people.

ANet have dealt a serious blow to my trust in game developers in general.

I agree with what Vayne said, for once. They shouldn’t be taken as a promise. But at the same time, they shouldn’t go back on almost everything that they’ve said. Even if they aren’t promises, people absorb them word for word, and then, understandably, get bitter when it proves to be false.

Again, I point to the Manifesto. They said a lot of things and people really liked it. I was one of them. The first couple of months after release, I even played the game faithfully. Now it’s a different story because I am bitter about how the game turned out.

They should change the name of the game to build wars because that’s what it is. 9/10 fights, the results are determined by builds and not by skill. I don’t understand at all why the game has taken this direction given how much Sharp supposedly likes counter play when he talks about all this on SoTG.

No the original GW was Build Wars. There were so many different builds that were viable that Anet took to changing the skills every month to keep things “fresh”.

The flux was amazing for PvP until because there were some that introduced so many different builds that no one used before.
