Game is shallow if skill slots doesn’t fill at least half of screen.

Gw1 had very shallow combat. So shallow anet deepened it.

It wasn’t as shallow as GW2. Unless you had no build building skill whatsoever and relied on PvX for everything, GW had an almost infinite number of possibilities depending on the elite you chose.

GW2 has nothing on GW. Elites aren’t even worth mentioning because of the ridiculous cool down times. And lol at the utilities and signets.

I’m betting that those who reached r50 didn’t do it to reach there per se. They must have had other goals like playing with friends or whatever and got the points as a result of that.

Close. They just did the PvP farm and claim the title of “Pro Button Smasher.”

I am really happy that I am not the only one feeling this way. Paul and Mathias possibly put it even better than I did. I have not really been playing this game for half a year now. I still log in to GW1 when I want to play GW and not feel like playing another hold-your-hand-action-adventure game where everyone are the same.

It would be nice if they could change the skill system, not just the traits system. All the trait system does is to let me know stats and numbers will be different next time I hit someone or get hit.

I want something that forces me to think and act based on my situations, and progress more than just switch weapon.

This is what we want, but in reality, it won’t ever happen.

As stated before, the skill system is dumbed down to the point that anyone can play without having to build a bar.

GW had more than 1300 skills total, GW2 has at most 80.

Do you see the vast difference?

As a Ranger, (mostly melee), I’m often changing my weapons …AND traits… between EVERY big fight, and sometimes even my entire wardrobe … you basically have to when you’re not a just another worthless “Bear+LB backliner”. Thieves in PvE seem to have it even worse, I rarely see them getting “bored” with things being too easy/rote…

I don’t think It’s necessarily the skills, I think it’s just some of the classes ended up being way too linear. Mesmer & Warrior especially (though Guardian also gets boring quick just b/c it’s too easy by being too VIABLE without ever changing up its loadout ever)

Way, way too linear. Especially thief how you are mostly using one button with the occasional 5 and 1 again woopty freakin doo. Most thief builds utilize a rotation of 1 button. Quite sad, and most definitely boring.

I completely disagree with ANets whole ‘spam 1 and only use other skills in certain situations’ philosophy they seem to have now.

I’m not asking for WoW DPS rotations, but kitten it is just way too simple right now. But again, this is because of the casuals. Apparently it was too difficult in GW1 to make your own builds and actually manage skill use. ANet officially touched on that, and I 100% disagree with it. Gamers are just way too lazy these days.

Everything has to be so mind numbingly easy a 3 year old can do it.

I could let my 4 year old niece play my ranger and she’d do decent DPS because all shortbow requires is letting your 1 go off, in WoW on the other hand she couldn’t possibly excel in any way at all because a complex rotation is required to get the ball rolling.

For ‘action combat’ (lol) this is pretty lame, maybe let us have interesting combo systems like the assassin in GW1 but instead they butchered that into a thief.

The game has endless potential but ANet refuses to expand on, or even comment on their incredibly mundane skill system. We don’t even have build templates after over a year. I mean really… so pathetic. Not to mention we have to pay to change builds now, oh I’m sorry I thought you didn’t want to be like other MMOs, ANet? I never had to pay to change builds constantly in GW1.

The issue with not being able to switch out skills on your bar has also not been touched or commented on that I know of, in over a year. Let’s say I play a BS thief, I have literally no use for death blossom so it’s a completely wasted skill on my bar. AMAZING design if I do say so myself.

This has been complained about since beta, there is zero variety in gameplay for a lot of the classes. Sure you can scream Ele and Eng, but what else can experience that type of play? Thief sure can’t.

TL;DR game too braindead easy and boring.

Didn’t you know they’re going to be adding more skills to the game pretty soon? Ones that are probably as dumb and useless as the current set is. But that’s what counts. Fill the patch notes up with stuff about skills so people think it’s getting fixed. Amusing really.

I don’t think that’ll happen because mmo gamers today simply throw their money at anything anymore giving the devs a false sense of players being happy about what they are doing.

And therein lies our problem.

Yes, long, long BEFORE that interview.

Manifesto was also long, long before November 2012.

And how much of that came to reality in the game?

And Vayne, come on man. Are you really going to stay a fanboy for life and never enter the rational thought process?

Why would they work on an expansion when the Living Story is what they’re focused on?

It’s dumbed down for those who suck at making builds. Everything past skill 6 is mostly useless due to horrendous cooldowns. Do like everyone else. Hit 1 and find something to occupy yourself for a minute or so.

when is the first guild wars 2 expansion coming out?

From what we have been told NEVER, there is never, ever going to be a expansion.

Living story updates every 2 weeks thou, instead…

They never said they’d never have an expansion? Why say so?

“ArenaNet’s lead content designer Mike Zadorojny recently went on record puncturing that particular balloon, saying that if the team manages these updates correctly, it will “probably never do an expansion and everything will be going into this Living World strategy.”"

GW2 might never have an expansion – Massively

It’s basically saying at first there will not be an expansion, then they realized “Oh kitten, we kittened up by saying that!” and they went back and said “Nah, we’re working on it.” Everyone knows they aren’t. LS is where they’ll stay.

They’ve said long long before that interview…

Thank you Galen Grey for making this list “100+ Guild missions, 2 Dungeons, 50+ new Dynamic Events, 3 PvP maps, 3 news mini dungeons, a new meta event, a new zone and the changes to WvW.” because that sounds close to an expansions worth of content (Maybe add two more zones and a new class) and the kicker is it was free and done in less than a year after release.

All that content is pathetic compared to what GW Factions added.

Except that Factions and Prophecies together had less content than Guild Wars 2 at launch. Nice try though.

Factions nor Prophecies had rehashed content in the guise of new content though. And no, different skins and new areas that events occur in doesn’t make the content new.

And Guild Wars 1 had nothing even remotely resembling WvW.

And we should only thanks our Lord FSM for that.

AB would count. Since all WvW is a zerg anyway.

I’m completely underwhelmed, all you posted was some fluff..

There was a video out today on the future of GW2.
It provided, as expected, nothing in terms of insight. I did like their graphic with the 70+ class skills and 800+ class skills though.
Questions were asked, and ignored.

If you can’t bs a ranger, you need to l2p. I find it easy on my thief. Rangers are pretty easy to kill in WvWvW. Seriously, L2p

I like how you say l2p twice. Do tell us how you play. Is it by lining your face to the left of the keyboard and rolling it to the right?

+1 OP.

I’ve posted something similar to this a number of times, in a more condensed form.
Now we’ll wait for it to get locked by a mod for some stupid reason.

This thread will be ignored by ANet.

Like everything else. Nothing’s new.

… been said in countless threads.

LOL. Do you even read the stuff you post? If what he said has been stated previously in “countless threads”, maybe … just maybe … it goes beyond pure conjecture and maybe … just maybe … a lot of it could indeed have been avoided if ANet had just taken all that ’countless" feedback seriously.

Countless threads? You can’t count them? Are you sure?

More than a thousand threads? I’m sure you can count up to a thousand. It doesn’t even take that long.

Anet has metrics. Threads are very nice, but you know…they’re just that…threads. And people in those negative threads sometimes disagree with the threads.

And MMORPG forums are usually cesspools of complaint no matter how well a game is doing.

How many complaints are troll threads too, because I’ve seen a few of those (though I agree this one is not).

Complaints on forums are nothing to get excited about. They sure as hell don’t guarantee a majority opinion.

Uhh … you’re the one who used the word “countless”. I was simply parroting you. How could that possibly have escaped you??

I lol’d at this pretty hard.

Dulfy the content, finish it in 2 hours, get your rewards, call it a day.

That’s fun, right? Every two weeks you get some new reward that you can show off with the rest of the GW2 players who have the same exact thing.

No. I’d rather some things that are there to stay and require using brainpower instead of reading some prewritten guide.

Absolutely not, I would have to buy new gear for all my characters. Not to mention transmute it all, it would be a nightmare.

And this is exactly why they would do it. More people buying things off the gem shop. In case you guys haven’t already figured it out, the game is just one big cash shop. Nothing else.

inb4 the list comes in showing how it’s actually brand new and not the same as previous content updates.

I’m sure there’s an alarm (with a flashing red light) going off in Vayne’s office about now.

He must be having Internet issues. He’s usually on every thread to lawyer it in case there’s any resistance. I fully expected him to already be here with a boatload of kitten to throw at us.

It’s a clever substitute for real content, with gem store monetization thrown in for bonus effect.

I’d agree, except about the “clever” part. <straightface>

Rehashed content in the guise of being new is pretty clever in a sense. inb4 the list comes in showing how it’s actually brand new and not the same as previous content updates.

The Living Story is ANet’s way of keeping the masses happy. It’s basically open world events for the most part that reward you in someway for doing it. Every 2 weeks something new shows up that gets people riled up. This is the Living Story.

Look at is as a way the make the game fresh and new.

The classes still play the same as they did back when you were playing. No new skills, no new animations. Nothing’s changed except a few minor skill tweaks and of course the content. All in all, it’s still the same game as before class wise.

What those here who aren’t
A) Fanboys or
B) those who saw WoW, hopped on the thread, and started talking it down,
are trying to say is that in it’s current “mash 1 – 5 all match as soon as recharge is over”, GW2 PvP is really boring. Sure I get that purple bar at the bottom of my screen that says 21, but what does it really mean? Answering that question, it means nothing. It means you’re great at running around with 4 other guys, rolling a target, and standing close to one another in a circle for 10 seconds before going to the next circle and doing the same thing again. Face it, most points made in the current sPvP maps are from capturing points. And even if one says “No, man, you’re wrong. I have a build that wipes people’s faces!”, you can’t be taking on 3 or 4 people constantly unless they’re just horrible at said button mashing.

That being said, we need new formats. Even with the new map coming in, it’s still the same thing. We need variation. We have 5 maps, but it’s the same thing with different graphics. Who really wants to play the same thing over and over again? And what’s the point of farming Glory anyway? So you can show off your cool armour and weapons to the 15 people in HotM lobby? At least something we can show off in PvEland. A title doesn’t cut it because most people who have never entered HotM have no idea what that title is. And even then, titles only show if you click on a person.

To me, GW2 sPvP feels a lot like the old AB of GW. Where your group ran around in circles, capturing points, and facing off a handful of times. AB was boring like that, and so is sPvP.
