And I’m not speaking for everyone. I was in an alliance with well over 500 people at one point and most of them didn’t run elite content. It was hard to find groups for elite content, because the alliance was more casual.

It’s not that I didn’t care about high end elite instances. It’s that a percentage of the playerbase didn’t care about elite instances. Not one or two people….a significant percentage.
I guess you can back your claim? Or are you speaking for everyone else again?

We’ve been there. ANet doesn’t care. The only thing they care about is catering to new players to get more gemstore money.

Alerno — Taking what you have (and everyone else has) put on the table I do wonder something. I want to ask, and hope nobody will bite my head off here.
You mention wanting to know there will be more to the game. The new and continuing episodes of the Living World count towards that, right? The fact that players know there’s a team working on new content and features, and that there are releases on a regular basis? I fully understand that may not fulfill every desire, but it does show a continuing commitment to “new stuff” for us players, wouldn’t you agree?
Do you play the Living Story updates yourself? How long does it take you to finish the provided content? What do you spend your time on the next 13 days till there’s a little more content? Does it still excite you after 2+ years?
These are honest questions, no trolling. I’m just curious whether or not you enjoy your own game.

This is the kind of players ANet caters to.. Thank you all for ruining the game.

There are two main issues with WvW right now:
1. The scoring
2. The reward for winning
Fix the first one and you can start implementing better rewards for WvW.
I have mentioned several times already how I would fix the scoring/coverage issue. If you care about it, search my posts.
Right now I’d like to comment on the rewards.
Personally I think everyone on the leading server should get a chest at the end of the day. Be generous with the rewards because if the matches are balanced it will give servers an incentive to go the extra mile and make their server win.
They should be somewhat like world boss chests. A couple of rares, some gold, a respectable amount of badges, etc.
But don’t deal with this before fixing the coverage issue.

It’s really sad to see the people in this thread try so hard to improve the game and get their ideas going after all the times ANet has slapped us in the face…
Does anyone here actually believe anything is going to change? There have been “Of course we hear you!” threads all the time every couple of months but nothing ever improved, it only got worse because it’s just damage control.
ANet has worked themselves into a corner and for all I care they can crash and burn for their arrogance.
This is what ignoring key problems for well over 2 years (and a ton of laziness) gets you and we shouldn’t be sitting here and even doing their job for them if they don’t even care. Let them milk china for as long as they can and realize they messed up when it’s too late.

Our next tournament will be an extremely intense, exciting four-week-long tournament battle. The shorter format will ensure that worlds will not be repeatedly matched against one another, which will more closely resemble a true Swiss-style tournament. Each matchup will be unique, and every win—or upset—will make a huge difference!
We’re facing the strongest server in our bracket for the second time now.
Is this working as intended?
Gunnar’s Hold
A population cap punishes higher tier servers because les speople can play and it punishes low tier players who like a slower paced game because more people will migrate to their servers.
This idea has been done to death and suggested like a trillion times but make the tick dependant on the average population.
However, this requires actual work and ANet prefers to go the lazy way so go ahead and lower the cap and make sure everyone is severely annoyed because you can only ever play WvW again after queuing up for hours.

Quoting myself here because I’m pretty sure this is relevant to alot of people.
Gunnar’s Hold
Does it make sense for them to upset the apple cart on this issue if everything is okay? I’m sure it took them by surprise as well; Anet can’t be any happier than we are about stripping out parts of the game that are already developed and paid for, and were intended as permanent content. I can’t say for sure that the changes they made were completely correct—They’re certainly not the ones I’d like to have seen made, for my own experience. But I think it’s safe to say that if the devs are getting a mandate that they need to fix this problem, the problem exists.
Now riddle me this: Is the new player influx on NA/EU so much bigger than the current active playerbase, that you need to spend all your resources on “improving” the leveling experience instead of adding new content for those who finished the game and most likely supported it from the beginning on?

It’s not just about being overwhelmed. It’s about pacing. It’s about being rewarded. People like to be rewarded. To older players it’s like something’s been taken away. To newer players, they don’t know what it was like before.
Anet’s tested it and they say the tests show this keeps people playing longer. I’m willing to see if it’s true.
I’m not. ANet has shown in the past that they like to take the laziest route possible. And I’m pretty sure, all they did was listen to their flawed metrics and decided to dumb everything down. Which comes handy by the way because it drags out the levelling experience and new players take a little longer to reach the state of #NoEndgame.
Also, where’s the reward for veteran players? Spoon collection?
Look, I know you’re not stupid and I see where you are coming from with your arguments but you cannot seriously look someone straight in the face and say you’re happy with the direction it is taking.
I mean, seriously, do you even play the game? I assume you do, so what do you do when you log in? Play the same dungeons you’ve been playing for almost 2 years? Or the same PvP Mode&Maps or the same WvW mode&maps? Or do you take your time to carefully examine the 20 minutes long Living Story content?
Listen to your heart buddy, this game is way past it’s former glory and it’s not getting better.
Gunnar’s Hold
Way to miss the point.
Anet isn’t talking about long time players leaving the game. That’s not what they’re talking about. They’re talking about people playing the game at start and getting bored and not continuing.
If you like the initial experience you might think everyone does or most people do. Anet’s testing shows them that’s not the case. Leaving the game long term has nothing to do with this update, but Colin said until they fix this, they can’t move forward with other things they want to do.
Not everyone who buys your game likes your game. That’s true for every single video game out there. And honestly, maybe people who are overwhelmed by one of the easiest MMOs out there aren’t exactly the target audience. The devs have to draw the line somewhere and right now they are catering to the worst players big time, which ultimately hurts veterans and enthusiasts. If this is the direction you want to be heading, fine but don’t expect no backlash when the people who actually bought the game firsthand and made it big get the short end of the stick.
Gunnar’s Hold
It’s all about getting new blood into the game. Almost all games have natural attrition. People stop playing for all sorts of reasons. Those people need to be replaced by other people. This is of prime importance for the business.
Now, if you added a guild hall, which I’d like personally, that won’t stop normal attrition, it would affect people who aren’t in guilds and even in Guild Wars 1, if you didn’t GvG it didn’t really mean much to a lot of people.
But all the time the attrition would take it’s toll and eventually we’d all be standing alone in our guild halls.
All games need new blood if they’re to survive long term. Anet has said the old system didn’t cut it. I believe them.
Well maybe, if there was actually something to do, people wouldn’t leave the game left and right.

That’s what you get, when you cater to the masses instead of enthusiasts.
GW2 has never been a game “for gamers by gamers”, it’s a game for the Farmville/Angry Birds audience.
It’s really no surprise if your test players fail at simple mechanics, when these are the people you are marketing the game to.

Agreed. And why don’t people try to offer viable solutions instead of just beotching?
There have been TONS of suggestions. Really really good suggestions.
ANet answered by removing the suggestions sub-forum.
Gunnar’s Hold
It wasn’t improved because it was broken. It was improved because it could work better.
Like Matchmaking, 4v5 issues, map balance and class balance in PvP?
Like coverage, siege balance and reward disparities regarding EotM in WvW?
Like having no new dungeons, no hardcore content and miniscule amounts of “story” in biweekly updates in PvE?
I could keep this list going on for a long while. Do you really believe streamlining the trading post is more important than the issues I’ve named?
Gunnar’s Hold
The thing is, it’s already too late now. ANet should have had content prepared by now but they wasted time and resources on low priority crap. Even if they start working on something new now, they will never have it ready bevor the major playerbase loses interest in this game.
ANet wanted the casual crowd, the “Call of Duty audience” so bad, they made it hard for enthusiasts and hardcore players to find this game interesting in the long run. The latter are leaving the sinking ship and ANet is stuck with the casuals and bound to dumb down the game even more.
It’s over, nothing to see here.
Gunnar’s Hold
I’m extremely disappointed by GW2. As a GW1 vet, I was looking forward to see the complexity of GW1 in an open world like we have in most MMOs. Instead we got a dumbed down grindfest in order to “appeal to a broader audience” i.e. casuals.
Every other thread in the PvE forum is how jumping is too hard and fighting is inconvenient and how this and that is offensive.. and I am sick and tired of it.
On the other hand, we have the least inclusive dev team I’ve ever seen. Good suggestions to improve core features have been ignored for years, promises have been broken, the PvP and WvW community get neglected… And the latest feature patch is hands down a slap in the face. Months of no communication and what we get are coloured tags and some quality of life updates. Wow, a huge bag of nothing. Not even squad features, simply.. nothing. Personally I would love to know, what the devs are working on so hard which is so important they cannot talk about because this feature patch certainly can’t be it, can it?
The longer we wait, the higher rise the expectations but I guess in the end the GW2 community is supposed to suffer. To me, GW died with the first game, the second has nothing in common with its predecessor, neither content- nor qualitywise.
tl;dr: I’m not happy.
Gunnar’s Hold
The content you are getting every 6 months is equal to a full expansion in other MMOs.
No it’s not. And I was legitimately disappointed by your lacking usage of buzzwords like “entitled” or “toxic”.
Gunnar’s Hold

So.. Nah.
Gunnar’s Hold
Will we be split in half (meaning top 12 and bottom 12) or will there be the usual 6/9/9 split?
The announcement suggests that there will be places 1-12, implying that there will be 12 servers per “league,” which is more consistent with the Swiss-style tournament model.
I know I am not the only one looking for an official answer to this question.
The league structure from the past 2 tournaments will remain for EU and NA.
• EU has 3 leagues, 9 teams each.
• NA has 3 leagues; gold contains 6 teams, silver and bronze each have 9.The Fall Tournament announcement references places 1-12 to account for the introduction of WvW tournaments in China, which will have a slightly different league structure.
While you’re at it, can you tell us if there’s any new way of ranking servers pre-tournament? Otherwise nothing is going to stop high tier servers from intentionally tanking again to stomp low tier servers.

Mike, what boggles our minds is, how you say you want to work with the community but you don’t do it. I didn’t read every CDI in its full entirety but did any of the features you “liked” ever see the light of day?
When you ask us for suggestions, we expect you to try and work on these.People like this are the problem. The fact that you are so self centered that you feel you speak for the whole community says a lot about your misconceptions.
As well, they get tons of extremely varying suggestions at times. Which ones are they supposed to implement, and which ones should they not. What gives one persons suggestion more value?
Prove me wrong.
Also, you’re clearly missing the point. It’s not about favoring a suggestion, it’s about not stagnating and chosing to do nothing instead.
If you really want to argue they didn’t fix the scoring system because they couldn’t decide for about 2 years which fix was the best, you are as naive as ignorant.

Mike, what boggles our minds is, how you say you want to work with the community but you don’t do it. I didn’t read every CDI in its full entirety but did any of the features you “liked” ever see the light of day?
When you ask us for suggestions, we expect you to try and work on these. When you’re done with the outlines, how about you come back and say “look, this is the way we would like to implement it, what’s your feedback on it?”. Instead you pretend to want our feedback but when it comes down to delivering, you slither your way out by saying “the forum is just a vocal minority”. Why bother at all then?
Let me pick up an example: The case of imbalance in WvW. Including mine, there have been easily hundreds of threads with well thought out suggestions on how to improve the scoring system, yet there is no feedback, no roadmap, not even recognition. How can you claim that you listen when one of the core flaws is still ignored to this very day?
Yes, you give us colored tags, yes you reacted to our outrage (some might claim this was intended..) but what the community actually said was something along the lines of “hey, we’d totally love to have a working and more fleshed out squad system. And coloured tags would be nice too”.
Please work with the community, not in your segregated bubble alongside it because that’s only going to lead to frustration on our side, because we feel ignored and on your side because your work is wasted on the wrong build sites.
Gunnar’s Hold
Someone already put up a good argument point for this statement, that WvW isn’t always accessible. Sometimes there is a queue which for players in a hurry will cause them to spend some silver to get to a place with a bank instead of going to WvW for free.
Is everyone here forgetting that you can access LA via EotM for no fee at all and with no queues?
Gunnar’s Hold
Why would you make different colour tags unlockable by gold (and lots of it) instead of a WvW ability? One new colour per rank in “Rainbow Commanding” or whatever the hell you want to call it would make so much more sense.
WXP and Badges are the currencies of WvW not Gold.

I am going to jump in here answer these as honestly as I am able.
- We can’t talk about that right now. Once the in-development features reach a state where we, as a company, are comfortable talking about them, we will.
- Some player requests are under development. What those are and when they will be completed, I can’t say at this time for reasons mentioned above.
- Devon is very busy with his job duties and only has limited time to devote to reading the forums. If he spent the time demanded of him responding to threads on the forums, his work would suffer. My job duties have me reading and reporting on the forums regularly to ensure that Devon and the rest of the team are aware of active concerns within the WvW community. I do this for other parts of the forum as well. As has been mentioned a multitude of times previously, our developers read the forums as much as they are able, but time prevents them from responding to everything they read.
This answer actually makes things worse than better. Still hearing this after two years, even though history has proven you wrong makes this unbelievable and almost comical. Almost…
