Moment of Clarity?

I don’t see why it has an ICD when mesmers get 5 stacks of might for 12 seconds (minimum) and then a random boon EVERY INTERRUPT with no ICD. That’s a master trait while Moment of Clarity is a grandmaster. Just seems silly to me.

moment of clarity also doubles the duration of ALL stuns you do (oh is a ranger with a lightning hammer and Moment of Clarity kittening OP) , and increases the duration of ALL dazes by 50%, that alone is really strong…

Not when we have only two skills to take advantage of it with…

This trait IS weak by itself. We shouldn’t need the help of another class to make it worthwhile. A-net is a creative bunch, I’m sure they can think up a good replacement.

Class Balance [Killshot OP]

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Soilder.3607

Soilder.3607

How on earth did you manage to get hit by a second? One is understandable, and if you are squishy enough to get one-shotted that’s just a risk of the build you’ve chosen. But getting hit by two seems flat-out impossible, unless you are being double-teamed, in which case you’re doomed anyway.

It can be really hard to notice individual skills in the heat of battle. If you read the log, you would’ve noticed that he was fighting more than one person.

IMO, dodge or die skills are dumb as they are:
A. Easily nullified when paying attention
B. Very op when not paying attention

Killshot will never ever land on a good player, or at least very rarely so. However, as in this such situation here, when a fight is happening between multiple people, focusing on a single skill isn’t so easy. And as such, this player has every right to be infuriated when one skill on a 10 second or less cooldown can deal so much damage.

WVW DUELING

in Ranger

Posted by: Soilder.3607

Soilder.3607

Condition/regen is probably the strongest dueling build in the game.

BM/Regen With apothecary or Dire will not have enough regen nor condi removal to beat either a engi or necro in 1v1.

They also will not have the damage to take down a guardian within a reasonable timeframe.

Thieves are a hit and miss with this spec depending on their crits if they cnd/backstab and the overall skill level of them.

Thats half the classes isnt it? I dont see where this is one of the ‘strongest’.

Em, you may be forgetting the fact that a build does not make you “invincible”. Can a BM lose to every class in the game? Hell yea. Every class has strong builds. It just so happens to be that our power builds really aren’t as good as our condition builds, especially the regen variants.

The fact that Heal As One hasn’t been buffed is ridiculous. It’s one of the most bland heals in the game. It should at least do SOMETHING. Maybe convert two conditions into boons? Maybe cause our next x attacks or for next x seconds you steal health when attacking, similar to the GW1 variant.

It just needs a buff; like a lot of other things.

so is it true… spirit rangers won’t be getting nerfed

From what I can gather from supposed leaked patch notes is they don’t seem to be focusing on nerfing the spirits but rather altering their use.

The thing I am concerned about is, even if they are moved from passive to skill play will I be able to wash out the bad taste they have left.

What lol? According to the patch notes, spirits are getting nerfed. The passive burn from sun spirit is dropping from 3s to 2 and storm spirits active is being reduced in damage by 33%

It does not. The amount it heals on the toolbar isn’t even right either. You’d figure they could fix that by now.

Lol, forgot about the fact that this tooltip has been wrong since launch.

However, in more seriousness, Spirit of Nature is a really strong spirit. 480hp/sec health regeneration while active in addition to on demand cd removal and revives. If it currently scaled with healing power, then they would probably have to drop it’s base heal down to 200 or something and then have it scale back up because it’s already extremely strong as it is.

All I have to say is: Rangers? ANet should have called our class Minion Masters or Spirit Masters, or AI Spammers -.-

I wonder whose idea it was to go “hmmm, there is a significant portion of the community complaining about the ranger spirit build, as well as the necro minion build, and just AI clutter in general, calling them petting zoos. Let’s make more skills that do more of the exact same thing.”

Unless the skill is an amazingly good heal skill, I doubt I’ll even unlock it.

Agreed. Last thing we need is more passive and ai based skills..

Not only that, but we already have one the of best team heals in the game. Give us something else.

If anything, i expect more nerfs. Not because they are warranted, but because the profession is still very strong. Not over the top OP, but very strong. This means that it will most likely recieve nerfs.

The only strong builds we have are spirits and BM (which is only a good dueling spec). We still have lots of lackluster builds that need some buffing.

Hardcounters in pvp - please adjust

Soilder.3607

The dudes completely right. Certain builds absolutely hard counter others. I like to play all melee ranger from time to time and if I see a d/p thief coming, I will 100% lose. My skill level does not matter, his skill level does not matter. I will always lose because of all the blinds and that fact that 4s is too little a time to allow me to get shots off before stealths + more blinds.

But then, as I swap to sb/lb, I will literally win 100% of the time as my attacks are rapid, do not require melee range, track through stealth, and can interrupt his leaps.

Empathic Bond

I’m curious does the pet recieve the full duration conditions it cleanses? I never really thought of this before, I assume they do cause they can sometimes get totally kitten d by it, I think they should only recieve a fraction of the length of the condis they cleanse in a similar way they don’t get full boons from fortifying bond, if it’s to be kept elsewise like it is, otherwise I want warriors greatswords to splinter and bows to break in half when they cleanse via their burstskill for 1min

Guild Wars 1 had plenty of skills which transferred conditions to you from allies and a lot of them also reduced the duration of those conditions received as well. This should be in place with Empathetic Bond. Our most important condition cleanse doesn’t even cleanse conditions: it just transfers them to our pets which can have a huge impact on our dps and survivability. Once again, we’re the only class with this problem.

Ranger WvW builds

I’d use PvP builds as a starting point, as that’s quite close to what roaming is. You need to be mobile and have several survival tricks up your sleeve.

not nearly enough to be useful in zerg fights, and spirits will get pummeled by zerg AoE.

I just want to point that, Fluffball is talking about roaming and you about zerg.
For roaming Fluff is right, it is very similar to PvP, zerg/group fights is another story.

Ah, well yea those specs are much better for roaming than for zerging, but in the end I definitely think you should atleast take traveler runes for some mobility.

Soilder.3607

I’d use PvP builds as a starting point, as that’s quite close to what roaming is. You need to be mobile and have several survival tricks up your sleeve.

Unlike PvP, WvW does offer a viable berserker option due to the significantly better equipment and consumables. You hit so hard that you can kill almost anything before it kills you, surviving mostly via CC and evades. You should be very comfortable with ranger if you want to go that route, though, as you live or die in a matter of seconds. It’s the most fun I have in GW2 though.

Eh, PvP is a good place to make and test builds but only if you know what you’re doing. For example, Trap and Spirit Ranger builds work extremely well in sPvP but they’re not nearly as good in WvW. Both lack mobility, traps have a deploy range of 600, not nearly enough to be useful in zerg fights, and spirits will get pummeled by zerg AoE.

Daze on torch 4

in PvP

Posted by: Soilder.3607

Soilder.3607

The Ranger torch is a rather boring weapon even if effective at what it does . It offers no counterplay what so ever . It is just inflict burning then inflict burning in an AOE . B O R I N G

So i wanted to suggest something that will offer some flavor to the ranger torch :
- speed up the throw torch projectile a bit
- throw torch inflicts a 1-1.5 second daze on hit

Why this ? Well , Rangers have few dazes or stuns . There are no stuns in the utility line . But there is one interesting trait that is about to get buffed even , Moment of Clarity . Perhaps this would add some interaction between ranger traits and make some specs not a snoozefest and increase active play by allowing more opportunities to interrupt a key opponent spell .

ty

Torch #5 is already a very long lasting firefield. If #4 was redesigned as a melee skill then I could totally see it having a daze/blind. Smacking a foe over the head with a torch has gotta leave some kind of an impact.

Mm, sPvP pets aren’t as good as you think. If you aren’t playing bm, they’ll die fairly easily as sPvP is all about bombarding points with AoE.

How can they not be as good as I think if what you say hasn’t been what I know? PvP pets almost never die if you’re paying attention to swapping.

Maybe you’ve yet to play a really competitive team? Pets will still die easily to lots of AoE. I run birds/cats so maybe there’s where our disagreement stems from.

Also missed the LB’s barrage nerf by 50% or so. If I’m not mistaken, that happened the same time the shortbow was nerfed.

As for buffs.. there have been next to none. The only one I can possibly think of is the slight increase in the LB’s firing speed. Which of course doesn’t matter when people still side step your arrows.

I guess Anet just felt the Ranger and their pets were just to OP compared to things like the thief’s stealth.

I had to look at all the patch notes to get these nerfs but I can tell you, we’ve had a fair amount of buffs.

The LB change, however, is not in any of the patch notes and I hear talk of it as being a silent nerf. I’m not going to list silent nerfs because I can’t be sure that they’re true.

BM Roaming Build?

in Ranger

Posted by: Soilder.3607

Soilder.3607

Idk what these people are talking about. 0 0 30 10 30 bm with s/t and a/d is still a very strong spec. Massive regen, tons of evades, good cd damage, and good mobility all followed by a pet that can deal strong damage and is extra tanky due to regen and increased stats. Only drawback really is weakness to condition bursts and a low hp pool.

Which is kinda the issue with a BM build -condition bursts and a low hp pool are the meta, if not its competing with very high damage. None of which the ranger has in anyway to create a good counter to the blows they get and recover from. Rangers lack stability except for one elite on a really long cooldown. A stank from a guardian hammer offers you immobilization plus mighty aoe damage, that no amount of regen can give you a comeback. Regen can be good in certain areas, PVE and places such as the toxic tower were ok, but it suffered from a lack of dealing any damage. And in the tower you really need it.
Pets are also not 100% accurate – take spider poison cloud for one. The attack is far too slow to hit or affect anything, as soon as it lands the target has moved out of that small field so it is of little use. A bunker ranger has no defense in WvW(lol?), it is easy meat for many classes. It would offer little defense from a perm stealth thief with massive crit , however a trap build might save your bacon in many scenarios. Even then though , traps are no where GTFO as say engineer grenades – its a fact that most Ranger damage = poor compared to the rest sadly.

If you’re playing BM without a bird or feline, you are doing it completely wrong. I know other pets offer superior control, but since you give the dps pets the survivability they need, you should always take them.

BM may be weak to condition builds, but don’t forget about how strong bm is in itself. You have massive amounts of regen and evades. Simply tank attack if you must and focus on pinning your opponent to ensure your pet mauls them apart. I think it’s even safe to make the claim that bm is our strongest dueling spec.

Stability is really only important for stun wars and fear spam necros, and having limited access to it is a downside shared by all ranger builds apart from signets.

3 out of 4 players is either war or gaurd

in WvW

Posted by: Soilder.3607

Soilder.3607

This is totally skewed. Of course heavies are more suited to zerg combat and that’s the way it should be, thus you see more of them in WvW. But tell me, how many guardians can beat a Mesmer 1v1? 1 out of every 10, maybe, if we’re generous? How many Guardians do you see doing really successful roaming like thieves/memsers? Warrior is, at best, decent in roaming/duels, not OP like Mesmer for example. Guardian is very, very bad at 1v1 and pretty bad at small scale roaming. It balances itself out.

For the record, my sig was too long so I had to cut it, but I have an 80 Necro and an 80 Mesmer as well, so I’m not just in it for the guardians.

Are you joking? Warrior is one of the best roaming and dueling classes in the game right now. Why do you think they’re getting nerfed come Dec 10th?

9/10 wars lose in duels against Mesmers, for example. Mesmer is the best dueling class in the game. Notice I never said wars are not good at duels/roaming, but they’re not OP. Thieves/Mesmers are still the top roaming classes, and Mesmers/Necros are still better in 1v1s in general. Wars are viable in duels, and viable in roaming (Guard only if very good and specced properly for the role) but they’re not OP in that aspect.

You said they were just decent, and they are way more than just decent. They’re very op in duels. Have you even played a good stun war? They are impossible to kill no matter how much stun break or stability you can bring. Same goes for mesmers, except the difference is mesmer takes twice as much skill to master than warrior.

Lol, what? Impossible to kill a good stun war? Are you joking?

There’s more to PvP than just being unkillable, any class can do that. We’re talking about classes that overpower one another. A stun war that can’t be killed, cannot overpower a Mesmer that is good, at all. The Mesmer can easily kite, flee from, or tank him even (f4 shatter, skill 2 sword, etc…). Remember, ether feast is a very strong heal for 20 second CD, and we have many built in stun breakers (e.g. sword 3), blocks (scepter 2, sword 4), insane amounts of dodges and either high condi damage or for power high sustained damage from sword.

Remember, stun wars hit slowly and so blocks/aegis/dodges/blinds effect them negatively far more than your average class.

When I said impossible to kill I was being expressive. Yes stun wars can die, and I agree that mesmers are a better 1v1 class, but you made them sound less powerful than they are. Mesmers need a nerf just as much as the Warrior except the difference is that to reach OP levels on a mesmer you need much more skill.

All spirits can now be launched, knocked down, and knocked back.

Storm Spirit, Frost Spirit, Sun Spirit, Stone Spirit, and Spirit of Nature will now begin their recharge when the spirit dies instead of when the spirit is summoned. (Buff/Nerf)

Storm Spirit, Frost Spirit, Sun Spirit, and Stone Spirit: Recharge has been reduced from 60 seconds to 25 seconds. (This is a buff but I’m including to show why the previous change is a buff/nerf.)

*10/15/2013*

Healing Spring: Reduced the field duration to 10 seconds. It now pulses every 2 seconds instead of 3, so it will still provide the same amount of regeneration and condition removal, just in a more condensed time frame. (Nerf/Buff as it grants faster CD removal yet a decrease in the water field duration.)

Vigorous Renewal: This trait now grants vigor to the ranger and nearby allies when the Healing Spring skill is cast and not on every pulse.

*12/10/13*

Wilderness Survival 5—Natural Vigor: Reduced the increased endurance regeneration from 50% to 25%.

Sun Spirit: Reduced the passive burning from 3 seconds to 2 seconds.

Storm Spirit: Reduced the damage from the Call Lightning skill by 33%.

I saw a thread like this in another profession’s forum and decided that we totally needed our own. I’m going to list them in order according to date and I will list changes that are simultaneously a buff/nerf. There are things listed that seem like bug fixes but since A-net has not specified them as being so I am going to keep them.

9/9/2012

Beastmastery Trait: Instinctual Bond – Now grants 5 seconds of quickness to the player’s pet and can only occur once every 50 seconds. (Did not have an ICD prior)

10/7/2012

Crossfire: Increased casting time by 40 milliseconds. This was done to fix some glitches in the animation that caused problems with this skill.

12/14/12

Shouts will now apply a buff to the ranger’s pet, to make the skills more visible. (Allows enemy players to know what skills you’ve used.)

Sick ’Em: Decreased the duration to 10 seconds. Increased the damage and move speed from 25% to 40%.

Splinter Shot: This skill is no longer able to fire at enemies behind the player.

2/26/2013

Guard: Pets will no longer guard areas that should be inaccessible to them. (Pets can longer run up and down the walls of enemy keeps to destroy siege equipment.)

Empathic Bond: Fixed a bug that wouldn’t apply transferred conditions to pets. This trait now transfers three conditions to the ranger’s pet every 10 seconds rather than all of them.

3/26/2013

General Nerf: Reduced quickness from 100% attack speed to 50%. (This nerf hit Rangers especially hard.)

Man I would love to see downed state completely removed. Or if anet refuses to remove it completely atleast get rid of all the interrupts, mists and teleports basically every #2 skill.

Downed state is fine, how else are you going to get stomps? It’s the combat and instarez that hurts more imo.

Because if a 5 man teams hit the back of a 30 man zerg and manages to down a few players, the zerg can just turn around and AoE everyone downed to prevent them from being stomped. The downed state completely throws small scale groups out the window.
