Thanks Mate, tbh traps are thief’s bane, message me in-game I’ve got around 500+ duels vs thiefs from SPvP facing some top tier thief’s and they showed me allot, I personally have had an unreal amount of duels vs many classes, but there one thing I always do when I lose to someone I spent around 1 week dueling top tier players of that class in SPvP trying to find ways to beat them.

I used to get owned no matters what vs P/D thief’s, I was lucky to meet a top tier thief who knows P/D inside and out we spent hours and hours trying to find a build for the ranger that works, and what we found was it wasn’t just the build it was tactics I learn’t there chain of attacks. Once I learn’t them I found a build and I’ll say one thing use AXE as your off hand, it is extremely OP once you know the P/D skills.

We should of been given the Hammer over GS, would of made rangers allot more useful in team fights and not so limited to builds.

My goal tonight is to lock down some random small group action as it will be the last time I’m out before fight club and server reset. I’ve been forced to play bigger objectives so far this week with all the action going on in KBL but hopefully that died down a little and there’s some wiggle room for some mischievousness because I feel rusty. The only roamers I’ve run into so far are from OG who apparently had better places to be at the time. Though I did get a fight out of an OG ele who killed me but they did not return to the spot for a rematch (not like I expected them to though it would’ve been nice). Anyway so long as my bois (holla!) are on we’ll be clubbin’. If they’re not doing dungeons.

Also before you skewer me for saying I haven’t seen roaming groups from Magz or DB it’s because I don’t get to play every night and when I do it’s only for maybe 2 or so hours. I’m a useless casual punk any day that isn’t reset or Sunday. :*(

You would have to be only Kain player who doesn’t just zerg everything, seems most Kain only know one thing zerg, how long till people get bored with the same old boring thing day in day out. you can only zerg for so long before you get sick of playing the game I know I was over zerg/siege long long time ago.

I don’t share my build, not because i think it’s some secret sauce of awesomeness, just that i hate the cookie-cutter culture, and don’t want to see loads of other ppl running it w/o even understanding why it works and putting the work in to experiment like i did. But basically it’s just power, signet, toughness. I’d be happy to duel (not saying i can beat anyone lol) and you can judge whether it’s worth it’s salt

Well. SPvP duels have nothing on WvW duels. We are limited to builds that work in duels for SPvP, where as WvW gives us wide range.

I duel every single day in both SPvP and WvW.

Mate, what’s your build how did you get your hawk so OP. Nice ahhahah

Ya’s need to stop factoring your pet into your damage and use them as CC and build your traits around making you stronger and using your pets as more of support skills.

Also something to look at I said QZ was good support skills, but at what cost you already get a QZ for seconds every 15 seconds. So wouldn’t it be better to take something that will improve your combat in terms of cc and defence. I would consider doing maths on say the damage output of QZ vs a different skill also I would take the Life Steal food. It would work great with your build as you have the SB.

One last thing you need ask yourself, what do you plan on doing. Larger team fights or small team fights or are you roaming this will play major impact on your build.

What armor do you plan to use, I would think about at least putting 15 in skirmishing for the swiftness+fury on your weapon swap that will provide you will the extra critical % + critical damage + the swiftness to keep onto of your target.

I would drop the 25% boost speed signet and go with something else that will provide you with more crowd control. QZ is a great idea for the GS and Lightning Reflexes are a must in anyone’s build.

The speed boost won’t really help you much in combat, use the weapon swap combo to give you the extra speed.

I would also take IX trait in Wilderness Survival its is one of our best traits. Its a must no matters what build you run, reason I say this when you cloak it breaks lock on you and auto’s there lock onto your pet meaning when you come out of combat there high chance they wasted some of there skills on your pet without even knowing till its to late.

Unless your boon heavy build which you aren’t as you don’t carry the horn there is no need trait so many points into Nature Magic, the damage bonus won’t beat 5% critical damage. Even know you have more life its only good vs conditions and as long as you dodge and you make sure to take EB which you did they won’t land the condition damage they need to break you unless there condition build and run 1500+ condition damage and are P/D or Engineer they are only 2 classes that will break your build in terms of condition damage. Well the good ones.

I would try and up my power/critical damage and aim for that 50% critical chance. With GC there some really nice combo’s and you might as well hit like a road train then gimping your damage. You don’t need the extra bonus damage from the sword trait for the recharge faster as you don’t want to stay in melee for that long.

I ran tests using p/v/t armor vs p/p/t armor and the ppt beat the pvt in a massive way. The damage output was hell of allot higher which gave me upper hand and put them on the back foot acting as defensive skill in a way.

There is also really nice combo I was doing, I would go into melee combat and try to time my stun just before weapon swap and I would combo with sword followed with the stun/daze then weapon swap and daze again followed with pet swap to wolf/fear combo they are disable for ages so aslong you make sure you done some buffer damage to them your going to waste them or at least break there tank/bunker if they have one.

Hope it helps mate just few things I’ve been testing myself for WvW. It might help you see things differently or find ways to improve your current build. I know myself I always blind side myself with builds and 2nd point of view always helps.

DB please teach your players what duelling is, when players are so far away from points and well so far away it isn’t funny, makes you wonder are they trying to keep outta WvW to have duels, you guys one worst servers outta everyone for it.

Going to miss FA, hopefully we face each other again sometime. Great duels vs so many players from your server, I’ve got allot respect for heap of players from FA bar one player.

DB well different story doesn’t seem to have the duelling crew or I’ve just missed it no hard feelings hopefully next week we can get some duelling happening.

I keep reading posts from this OG guild but I’ve never met them…until tonight. Here’s a vid of our encounter. (NB: My guild has almost no spvp/tpvp players and certainly makes no claims about being good at roaming fights).

Initially 4 FA vs 5 Maguuma. After we retook our supply camp it was 5 FA vs 6 Maguuma (it’s hard to tell if they had more as they kept spreading out, but you can certainly see at least these tags — 3 OG + MUG + SKIL + PXP).

My main concern during this entire video was retaking our supply camp. TBH, I can’t see any justification to the claims that Maguuma’s roaming gankers are any better than FA or Dragonbrand players.

So what about when 5 OG took out your 11 man group over and over tonight. Did we make a video no cause your not worth it. 5 OG held your bottom half map while your commander from PRO that d/d ended up giving up and running around nude cause we wiped you over and over and over…

I know this might ark some feathers, but its getting old. I have respect for few members from PRO that I’ve met, I spent over 7hr roaming tonight in 5 man OG group and it was blast, for roaming group we put ourselves between the zerg and our zerg. Tonight would be first real night we done much WvW as Chipsu said most of us have been doing TPvP or solo roaming.

I’m currently in trails for my new team builds atm, its 30/20/20 signet build using SB/GS, I tried it with SB/LB but I’m still to attached to shortbow and I like damage more from shortbow.
I would use sword/horn, I’ve found in team fights the GS is a great weapon when you have 70% critical chance with 68% critical damage and 2300+ power without might stacks from your team mate’s.

well i just had the strangest experience when i logged into eb instead of taking me to maguuma start i was on a cliff above speldan for about 1 minute others where logging into same area. we dropped down to take speldan and all npc’s where green so we ran around making friends and spying being completely unattackable and unable to attack. name showed up as unknown to everyone else. probably something with the new guesting feature

I saw something strange the other day myself. I saw an enemy, but it was simply named “Unknown Invader”. They ran away so I was unable to investigate further.

I walked up to the guy trying to work out how he was standing in the zerg not taking any damage. Let’s hope it was random bug, or maybe that Cow was OP.

You guys need to check this out, you all recall the little melee Asura Ranger clips, 6 of’em to be exact, well he just went ranged!

Though the ability has a facing requirement to land, if done at the right moment -try to catch the other guy in the heat of the moment so he misses it and keeps attacking- it is serious burst!

Nice video, it is fun to watch rangers owning people.

My only question is how will it effect your build in terms of PI getting a nerf.

Rangers won’t get hit with a nerf, I would say they will focus there time on fixing the current problems before they start rebalancing a class.

I’m looking forward to active Oceanic time zone, been bit dead past few weeks. Looking forward to some epic fight’s.

The ranger would be me, message me in game some time. Your good ele most buckle under my burst and make mistakes under the pressure and good fights.

thats crazy. how does that work? my bunker ranger i run in wvw has close to 500HPS when regen is up, which is almost always, and about 1k HPS when SoN is up, if it’s not killed (that’s all in addition to near-perma vigor and 2 energy sigils).

glad to hear your build is effective in duels. i imagined it getting shredded by good thieves and shatter mesmers.

As for gear I use, Knight’s armor set, I use Knights accessories with Berserker jewels and Assassins backpack. I use Berserker Weapons with Sigil of Air I’m yet to buy my Bloodlust sigil for my horn.

I use 2 different foods one that ups my power and other one does precision and gains life on critical, I have around 2100 Power 50% critical chance without fury up.

Runes of Citadel are best suited for my build, the Power/Bombs/Fury for 30 seconds.

Thief’s and Mesmers aren’t much of a problem 1v1, I do run different armor setup and change our lightning reflexes vs P/D thief’s and I use offhand Axe over the horn, same trait line same pets I change one major trait for more regen as P/D thief won’t proc the effect.

Vs Mesmers my traps keep there clones at range and if they get on top of me they take allot of damage and I always save my wolf on pet swap so I can fear them.

Now lets talk about my Shortbow, I use Sigil of Air its more effective for single target damage, it also based off your power/precision now in my video its hard to see the damage at times but for e.g say I hit a target for 800 critical damage I have 30% chance of my Air to proc, most of the time its every 5-10 seconds due to how offen I critical. It normally hits for same as my bow sometimes more.

So I just hit my target for 800+800, now lets say they both critical I have 66% chance to gain 325 life off this one attack so if both gain life that’s a nice heal.

Now add in chance of adding bleeding to that as well and add on factor that I’m most likely flanking my target, so I’ve just hit them with 3 stacks of bleed + sigil of air and my normal bow attack.

The shortbow attacks so fast you can stack up great deal of damage in very short amount of time. Make the shortbow the most viable weapon we have it will out damage. People seem to forget the down time in sword combat and the LB is only really good for zerg fighting.

Now I run runes where I have 5% chance to drop a bomb and well it seems to drop allot. It also is based off my power/precision so it always seems to hit over 1k damage and if it critical I have chance adding a bleed and gaining life.

This is why I don’t run bunker skills (signets) or any real defencive skills, lightning reflex is just extra damage skill with stun breaker and dodge and vigor regen can’t ask for much more.

So I will give you guys little run down, the current build I run is 0/20/30/5/15.

Reason I use traps, spike trap does cripples/immobilize/bleed, flame trap does burning and works as combo field.

Now to explain the madness behind the traps.

Flame Trap: I use flame trap for its combo field giving me 3 seconds of burning every 12 seconds with a tick of 403, with a pulse damage of 163. Now your pulse damage is based off your power/precision so with 70% critical chance (based off my stat’s) it can hit around 300-400 damage per pulse and on avg, you will almost critical all 3 pulses. Now I use food which has 66% chance to gain 325 health so each pulse also gives me chance gaining health.

Now I trait where each critical has chance to bleed for 1 second with 56 damage each time. So you can see why with only 300 in condition damage my flame trap does massive amounts of damage while giving me survivability.

Spike Trap, I use spike to give me map control and hold my target in my flame trap it works the same as flame trap, the pulses are based off my power/precision. Now allot of players are not aware when you throw spike trap at someone it will immobilize this helps me interrupt there movement and any skills they might be trying to use on me.

So now lets talk about the survivability these 2 traps offer, so I throw my trap at my target he gets immobilize in my flame trap, so I’m getting all the damage from both traps hitting my target.

So now my pet can hit my target chances are he will knock-down my target in my traps disabling there movement ability to counter, now add in the damage from my bow. A short bow will hit around 3 times a second and I run high Power/Precision so I always have 70% chance to critical. In the time frame of 3-5 seconds I have put the target on the complete back foot they rushing to save themselves.

Now you pet-swap and they get knocked down again or AoE Fear/Immobilize so I’ve disabled fear amount of targets that might be attacking me. Now sure you won’t always get the perfect combo. So do the maths you have just railed your targets with insane amount of damage. Your getting stupid amounts of heals from your food thanks to all the different skills criting at the same time.

So this is just one part of my build, the healing off that combo is more then any ranger bunker build can even come close to.

This build murders d/d eles, it stops mesmers from being able to get on top of you, it stops burst thief’s (vs burst thief’s they land in your traps and disable themselves while you lightning reflex away) they the easiest class for me to beat. Also lightning reflex is based off your power/precision as well so if a thief lands on you just lightning reflex away good chance it will hit 1000-1200 damage + the bleed stack, and thanks to runes I rune seems to proc the bomb allot which also is based off my power/precision giving me extra 1000+ damage which can stack bleeds and offer me 325 heal from my food.

This just one part to my build. I’ve yet to get some footage of some hardcore fights keep forgetting to turn fraps on.

Also I attend Fight Night, in WvW this build is extremely effective. I have countless player’s I’ve faced and they all agree with how effective it is in 1v1. I’ve lost once to to friend who plays guardian, battle went for 20 mins and it was matter who made the first mistake would lose.

nice vid. you make the build seem quite effective, but to be honest, i wouldnt be so sure it works against decent opponents.

you have next to no survivability, and zero mobility. and you never get trained by a good opponent in your video. i guess im saying three things: 1) you make the build look good when it’s actually quite average, 2) you dont fight good opponents, and 3) i guess traps just arent my preference so i wouldnt roll with this build.

Hi, Glad everyone enjoyed the video, and yes I do understand the players I faced aren’t highly skilled but the point was to show what I’m doing.

I play differently to most rangers I like using aggressive skills as my survivability. But each to there own. I might go into detail at some point about how I’m meant to run my build, but that will have to wait till I’m less busy.

Its not about defedning anything, it’s about that you guys are tno the gods of gaming. You have a zerg nothing more. You melted the same as every other zerg on every server. To claim otherwise is just foolish, but yet you continue to act like “your zerg” is somehow special. I understand that winning for Mag players is special, but its not special to anyone else. if like 20 of us held off like 200 of you for 4 hours. I wonder what 200 yaks on the map would have done.. we will never know though because it has never been worth our time to consider it.

Yep, that was before I went into hardcore training mode with heap of mates to work my ranger out better.

Thing we found is sure the ranger can’t do a “Kill Shot” but over say 10-20 seconds ranger throw allot of damage. Was matter finding combo’s and using right sigils.

Sword is a great weapon, but recently I found a way to make the SB do 2x the amount of damage and less risk as your sword does.

I’ve gone back to using my sword as more defensive weapon and using horn or torch as my damage or combo fields while I use the SB to destroy targets.

What happened to Yak’s, I understand why IoJ is having problems. But Yak’s can’t of lost that many, one of problems I’ve seen with Yak’s groups you guys run 80% low levels where Mag runs 80% geared lvl 80’s….

Yak’s Bend, you guys have some epic bad P/D thief’s cloak all day long.

It’s really hard to be bad at P/D Thief. It’s easier to be really good at P/D than it is to be really bad at P/D if that makes sense.

I really hate them atm, there are 2 Yak’s Bend guys running around P/D and all they bloody do is cloak cloak cloak…. It’s driven me nuts.

And? They’re on any server, dunno why you want to single out YB.

Maybe cause I’m currently fighting P/D thief’s from Yak’s and it driving me nuts that they spend most of the time cloak cloak cloak. Where is the skill in that if it was IoJ I would of said IoJ.
