Hi, I might get some hate from fellow Spirit Ranger’s for posting how to counter us. First I’ll start with brief break down of the spirit’s used.
Fully traited Spirit ranger, will have 70% chance to proc it’s passive effective, it will active there active skill on death of the spirit, spirits also have 10 second internal CD on all passive effects. All spirit’s have a 1.1/2 cast time on both the casting of the skill and the active skill once cast.
#Stone Spirit, 4 seconds of protection when proc’ed this will ruffly proc every 10-20 seconds for team mate’s while in combat. It’s active skill is Quicksand with Immobilize for 2 seconds and cripple for 1 second with 45 second CD.
#Sun Spirit, 3 seconds of burning every 10-20 seconds. It’s active skill, blindness for 5 seconds with recharge of 25 seconds.
#Storm Spirit, swiftness for 10 seconds every 10-20 seconds. It’s active skill Call Lighting which does around 2-3k damage depending on your toughness, with a 20 second CD.
#Elite – Spirit of Nature, 1.1/2 cast time with 240 second CD, 320 heal per second and on command it will clear conditions/revive NEARBY allies.
Now I’ll explain what you need to look out for and how to counter spirit’s.
#Minor Spirits. Make sure your team comp has an effective way to remove the spirit’s without getting in range of the spirits active skill. E.g. if your an burst team take SB on your thief and 1-2 shot all his spirit’s at the start of a fight. If your an ELE do not charge in the spirit ranger, he will just hit his Active skills, know they will hit you and knowing you will wipe his spirits taking 2x the effect. Don’t be stupid don’t rush placement is key, once you wipe them spirit’s the ranger has lost all his team support for a good 50-60 seconds.
#Elite Spirit. Once you see the ranger’s elite cast, your hole team MUST focus down this spirit or the target your going to kill will just get ressed back up. Most burst teams can destroy the Elite really fast. It has 240 second CD so there goes the elite.
Ranged AoE is great for taking down Spirit’s also.
There really isn’t much more to say its that simple to beat a spirit ranger, once you have taken down the spirit’s the ranger is left with the lowest DPS in the game and sub-par condition damage.
The single biggest mistake teams are making atm, they leave the Spirit Ranger unchecked almost all fight and wonder why they taking so much damage vs the condition meta. It’s your own fault.

You are a Spirit Ranger on a 2 Spirit Ranger 2 Necro Guardian team dude. Your team is exactly what’s wrong with the meta at the moment.
This is the difference between people who are being carried by a spec and people who actually work for their success. The Das Goon guy gets threatened and calls me clueless. The Team Paradigm guy agrees and adds to the argument.
The constructive suggestions thread and state of the meta thread are full with people asking for less passive play, especially for your class.
Don’t bring that here. You are getting carried by your build
Here is brief history lesson. When Das Goon the team I joined started playing we Yolo Que’ed that lineup. We had it before the update and why should we stop playing our team comp cause of update that made you unhappy.
Why don’t you like everyone else learn how to counter these classes, you and rest that complain are like the rest “REFUSE” to change your team comp to counter the meta.
It’s like you think every single patch that comes out won’t change the meta, I personally can’t believe your having problems vs spirit rangers. Take a SB and kill all there spirits in the first 1-2 shots, that you just helped your team out. You put them on 60 second CD and they don’t help our team. The spirits also take around 1.5 seconds to cast and use there skill.
I have many of players I duel and train to counter spirits, I know thief I trained against he destroys my spirit build 1v1 NO PROBLEM I’ve never come close to beating him 1v1 with spirits, same with Ele friend of mine, and DPS guardian I know wipes all my spirits with his GS#2 skill gone, THERE GOSE ALL MY SUPPORT. What does the ranger have left nothing, the weakest damage in the game + most of spirit builds run rabid so we can’t tank for long.
This here is why the game is way it is atm, half of you just don’t know how to play.
YOUR PRIME E.G. of the problem you come to forums to QQ like no tomorrow demanding change to classes when there isn’t a problem, only problem I can see is maybe the Burning on the necro, but srsly they won’t slow our team down at all.
Please explain how your going to make the Spirit Ranger NOT SO PASSIVE, please tell me do even understand how the hell a ranger works.
I have over 2,000hrs of PvP on my ranger so please explain, I’m clueless and have no idea.

This coming from an “elite player” whose team runs two necros, two spirit rangers, and a guardian.
Sure, hit me up I want to put together a team of faceroll specs and call ourselves Team Cheese Squad
I know AoE is what you do to stop Spirit Rangers. The damage simultaneously drops the spirits, then you focus the elite, and then drop the ranger when they have nothing left.
I don’t want to play like that though. AoE is not challenging at all. I want to beat someone with skill, not spamming AoE from Necros, Engis, or spam evades with S/D.
When you have to target an area to beat one guy it’s complete garbage.

Best part of that video was, we got told Zoose team SOAC Red just lost to all ranger team, then we face Zoose right after his lose and beat them rather easy.

Leave Dhuumfire how it is, Reduce the amount of damage applied from Terror.
Reduce the duration’s of bleeding across the board. Reduce the duration of both Poison/Bleeding on Scepter auto-attack.
Reduce Hemophilia to 10%.
By reducing the duration’s and terror damage it won’t force other classes to be pigeon holed into trying to counter necro’s removing many viable builds from the game.
E.g. Necro Scepter #1×3 + Epidemic with Withering Precision vs Ranger SB #1×3 + Traps. Your combo is way more powerful then the Trap ranger, leaving you the option to take 2 more utilities. This is what I call “Red Flag” that there is an unbalance.
Ranger Trapper is very close to the 30/30/10 build if anyone is wondering. The Necro has allot more survival then the ranger in terms of comparing these 2 builds.

Well it was just idea, even if they made it so you could remove conditions when used, that would be allot more effective. It opens up better might stacking builds for both SPvP and WvW, giving power builds that punch they really needed.
Currently our power builds just don’t cut it in terms of direct damage. But if we could might stack allot better would bring us closer to other classes in terms of power builds and it wouldn’t throw the meta out.
Also I wouldn’t have it xfer the conditions to the pet. If it was passive remove.
E.g. you would have the Signet Heal (Remove’s Conditions on Heal) + Signet of Renewal, this would open up more options like. 30/20/0/20/0 builds giving us the option to trait into dodge condition remove + heal condition remove and having the hard signet condition remove.
It would help make melee burst build more viable.

After watching the SOTG and there was talk about condition remove, I figured I would put forward basic idea which would help Power Builds become bit more viable.
I’ll keep it simple and direct.
Currently the skill Heal as One is rarely used, troll’s and healing spring are far more viable, so why not change the skill to help the ranger class.
Change Heal as One to a Signet.
Change the recharge to 30 seconds. (So if traited for 20% faster recharge it will become a viable heal + you can get 3 stacks of might if traited. = 24 seconds when traited)
Change it to have one of the 2 following options.
Passive – 1 condition remove every 10 seconds.
or
Active – Removes 2 conditions when healing skill is used.
Not sure on how much heal you would give the skill maybe 7-8k heal.
But this would open up Power Builds more, atm you can only take signet of renewal as our condition remove and once used we in rather bad spot. Also give’s us more might stacking options which will open up different rune setup’s.
Now the idea isn’t the end game, but I feel it would be good step in the right direction.

This was a very good SOTG, the recent patch has put the ranger in a very good place.
Pet nerf why would they need to speak about that when it was one of best things they done.
SB nerf I could agree with that, SB on thief is 900 why isn’t ours 900.
What I got out of this SOTG was the ranger is only going to get better. Just allot of players here seem to jump on the negative bandwaggon.
If we as rangers spent more time thinking and putting forward good idea’s like most of the other forums we might just get listened to.

1. Currently the meta is heavy you can go with Rabid but I recommend the Carrion setup your going to need that large HP pool.
2. Mainly for the magnetic aura, + Forge doesn’t really give you best bonuses which you will require the % to fire duration is only 1/4 which is worthless, the % to protection + your 10% already will give you extra 1.25 on traited protection skill + your going to have good amount of protection between the your traited/dodge/rune. Other builds I use Forge but that due to fact I can full use from my runes.
3. Well I like having a large health pool, helps you control them condition bombs and you have protection to help counter them sudden burst spikes + hard dodge. The power is fairly good your still going to be critting allot, your fury upkeep is rather large also there is good chance your team will have staff guardian and he can might stack you which is extremely handy for the carrion build. Not only do you have almost 1900 condition damage but you also have well over 2200 power. There won’t be 100% uptime on your crit’s but it will balance itself over time.
4. Canines do synergize better, but problem is they will die to easy in team fights the meta is just hitting to hard atm. Also drakes bring allot to the table with there AoE F2, Blast Finisher and AoE weakness, with the recent weakness buff its a very viable skill to combo with your traps. Also I find having that extra burst from the F2 can be really handy in team fights.

Hi, I’ve decided to do up my list of viable builds which I run in TPvP and SPvP.
Each build has its Pro’s and Con’s, its up to you as a player to understand the Traits, Sigils, Runes, Weapon Sets and Combo Chains.
Most of my builds use drake’s or birds, I’ll explain why.
Drakes: The reason I use drakes with most of my builds they offer AoE Weakness, Blast Finisher, AoE F2 and they have a large vita pool which in team fights will help, your pet won’t die and you won’t lose your condition removal. Drakes seem to be the only pet that won’t die in team fights with the current state of meta.
Birds: Most builds where I’ve invested into the Beastmastery trait line, I will aim to use Bird’s, I will trait to get the bonuses which they offer, Vigor Regen, Blind F2, AoE Swiftness and there damage is rather high when you correctly spike.
Correctly Spike: With some of the builds I highly recommend using your Signet of the Hunt to spike with your birds F2 and your hardest hitting skill. This is also why I use birds for the Swiftness buff while my Signet of the Hunt is on CD. You won’t need Signet of the Hunt while your in combat between weapon swap if traited and your pets swiftness buff your going to be moving rather fast.

Well Torment isn’t the problem its the damage you take while your getting feared + all the conditions.
Also how are you going to field with your build vs HGH Engineer’s seen as they will just remove your boons rather easy.
I know there isn’t a build that counters them all, but I personally felt the new trait was more of PvE skill rather then PvP skill. Think about it almost every class already apply’s swiftness/regen.
Like I don’t want you to think I’m trying to dis your build, I’m trying to point out all the holes I can see from my point of view.

That wasn’t my build. I said it was Xsorus I figured I link it, I liked his build I personally don’t run bunker in WvW. Just not my thing.
On side note how do you feel your going to handle the new necro meta. With using dog/wolf I can bet they are dead before you can pet swap them, and this comes from duelling them in SPvP 1v1. And there damage is allot higher in WvW.
You might be running HS as well but that won’t save you. If anything anet needs to give us better solid condition remove.
Or you might need to start looking at pets with 4k vita.

The major problem I found with this build was we had no control or any real damage output skills bar the axe #3, which is easy to dodge. Now we can’t just use Cat’s/Birds to break our target getting us the upper hand, to much tank and no gank.
Also new elite trait is rather stupid, your willing to waste of much to invest in swiftness/regen which you can get rather easy.

F2 has way to much of a delay if they fixed the delay pets would be so much better.
Other pets would get used. This should be something that is asked.
When are they going to get one of us rangers on there to speak to Anet, cause I for one would love to be put on there. All the recent SOTG none of the players who spoke about the ranger had any real idea of what the core problems of the ranger class is they just TPvP, where as rangers are widely used in WvW and we are rather crap there.

Condition Remove & Stability, are great ways to counter the current necro meta. Just mod your build learn the necro chains, ask a friend who is good at necro to duel you learn what there doing. Once you understand how they work your going to find things allot easier.
Necro’s got the buff they needed, it feels good to face a necro knowing its going to be hard fight.

Hey everyone, Birds still work well they didn’t take much of a hit in terms of damage. So I can see people using the 0/0/30/10/30 build allot still or even 0/0/30/20/20.
SB ranger nerf, lets face fact’s who here really is ever past 900 range fighting someone with short bow we are always rather close tbh.
Guy’s there are some new build being able to come out now, E.g LB/Spirits would be viable is setup right, I can’t say 100%.
Also We can perma regen/swiftness now, the Axe #4 is a mass pull so throw that into zerg and pull yourself 5 people.
Protect Me is now a very good skill to take.
The 5 seconds of might on crit to pet has no internal CD, I can avg around 7 might stacks at all times on my pet while in combat. So add that with pet swap trait that’s a good 9-10 might stacks on your pet.
Also use drakes if your doing group PvP, they do AoE weakness and there F2 is Aoe and they have blast finishers, which in makes your stupid birds/cats before patch rather dumb in terms of team support.
Axe chill skill has a 8 second weakness, so add that with duel drakes which might stack off fire fields, I don’t know do the maths its some power stuff.

Pet’s do need a nerf in damage. But that doesn’t bother me I hated using the beastmaster build it really dumb’s your skills down after a while, not saying the players are bad just so easy as a beastmaster you really can tank for days doing stupid amounts of damage.

Two classes stand out to me in this regard: Rangers and Thieves. Evades and dodges … and teleports to some degree is imho for these two ott.
Ranger has 2 evades, one with a slight delay time, and both on a 10+ sec cd.
Rangers have no burst. No, really, a 6k hit from a pet that can be kited 24/7 with swiftness is not burst.
Rangers outlast, and if you don’t give them the tools to outlast, they are useless. Because they don’t do any damage besides conditions — which take time to kill vs. thief.
First: I play a ranger (along with other classes) … even if my main is now a guardian.
I consider S/D viable, and hence I can count 3: Hornet sting on 8s CD, Serpent’s strike on 15s CD and Stalker’s Strike on 10s CD (8s with Off-hand Training, which I consider a viable trait for BM when playing condi’s).
Not to mention how good HS+ML is at escaping for a skill on such short CD.I think you hint at S/D-thieves … and I consider them more silly than rangers atm, so using them as measure for the viability of us, is not exactly the best imho.
Pets can idd be kited, but we can equally apply quite a bit of cripple. I don’t usually have that issue with pets hitting my target with the build I use atm, though. But apart from that: It is a whole different discussion. The fact, that we are tied to a rather stupid AI, doesn’t justify, that we have access to an excessive amount of evades … imho.
Hornet Sting has a delay that makes it inherently inferior for evading. It’s a disengaging skill.
And we haven’t got quite a bit of cripples. You have a chill on axe, and a cripple on offhand dagger. A very short cripple on melee auto.
The axe projectiles are really slow and easy to dodge, so that chill barely lands on someone competent, and crippling talon is similarly slow, and for snares that have easily 10+ sec cd’s, opponents have a fair amount of condition removal in case they do not dodge them.
The pet is easily half a BM ranger’s damage, and effectively more if we’re talking about classes with massive condition removal like eles, so when a pet gets so easily kited, you pretty much do nothing..
You’re also looking at the effectiveness of these evades on a regen bunker, when these evades don’t come close to helping the mediocre state of glass cannon or offensive rangers (which don’t exist outside longbow noobs in wvw sitting behind a zerg).
BM bunker rangers exist because it’s the only viable spec outside trapper, which is also a defensive condition build.
Power build rangers are extinct because they don’t have a way of dealing with boons — they can’t steal them and they don’t have sick raw damage like warrior to mow through boons. Power builds are completely dead for a ranger since their direct damage coefficients are halved because of the pet existing, while condition damage is not halved.
Players won’t understand. Most people want it to be easy, its the reason why so many plays are still rolling there face across the keyboard.
E.g. how to play a d/d ele first get your face place it on your keyboard start rolling look back up after 5 mins count the bodies…..
That used to work when people were still fresh at classes but everyone has gotten smarter, so the face roll tactic doesn’t work.

Beating spec’s it shouldn’t means you got out played.
Getting rooted and dying to the condition/pet burst means you wasted your condition remove stupidly.
We will see how the pet damage nerf goes, wont change the fact people don’t kite or remove the right conditions. “Stop Sitting On The Point” rangers excel at close combat……..

I have 2 condition removals every 15 secs. I was not outplayed. I outplayed the opponent. At most they can only take away 1/5 of my health which is less than my heal.
The pet is the thing that killed me. No, I am fighting an OP spec. Of course, I will be killed. I draw guardians. I do not draw Ranger.
In fact, I have a better chance of killing a bunker guard than drawing a bunker bm ranger
I don’t mean to impose on your skill or anything like that I meant what I as a general comment, what I’m trying to get at is not all builds will counter all builds. You might have a solid spec and be good player, but there is no such thing as 1 build beats them all. There are fair few builds out there for classes that beat the BM/Bunker, none of this draw stuff.
So why not run them builds or them classes as they are the counter. If you can’t do it with your current build don’t try.
Also, if your drawing with someone on point fight your not being every effective to your team at all…. If anything your wasting your time fighting that point when you could be supporting your team and taking a different point.

Only bad players die to our pet. Here is a tip, almost every single BM/Bunker ranger only has 3 seconds of chill and 6 seconds of cripple and that’s on the same weapon set. That’s about all the CC we have on a BM build, now we don’t have perma swiftness we only have 25% speed boost so if you have swiftness our pet should never hit you unless your shocking with condition remove and don’t understand how to kite someone.
when a good portion of your skilld root you in place and area is small. People get hit by pets more often than you think. Rangers have enough condition removal to make my weakness ineffective.
Note: I beat shatter mesmer by stacking weaknessAnd unless your setup to take a BM/Bunker on don’t try wait for your team mate and murder him cause they won’t win 2v1.
Most Phant mesmers will beat a BM/Bunker 1v1, a good engineer will beat the BM/Bunker 1v1 or kick him off the point and cap it which is what you want right.
Everyone want’s rangers to be a easy kill again and be uttly useless again in TPvP.
Fact is most of you need to learn the ranger class better find it’s weak points and abuse them….
No, i just want pet damage nerfed.
Bunker BM ranger is beating builds when it should draw instead.
Beating spec’s it shouldn’t means you got out played.
Getting rooted and dying to the condition/pet burst means you wasted your condition remove stupidly.
We will see how the pet damage nerf goes, wont change the fact people don’t kite or remove the right conditions. “Stop Sitting On The Point” rangers excel at close combat……..

E.g. boon stealing thief, most rangers only have limited amount of boons Vigor/Regen steal them and you take away fairly large amount of our regen, most will run SoR or RoA you can steal our RoA and you can kill SoR really fast.

Only classes I know that have problems are Necro’s and thats not all necro’s I’ve seen some really good ones take down bm/bunker 1v1, well warriors and they getting buff next patch so what hell you complaining about.

I live in Australia, so that might be half the reason my QZ stomp always bug’s out on me.
Wish Anet would give us some information on how it works between the 2, cause you might be right about the 2 seconds from QZ vs the time it takes to stomp someone.

This post is rather stupid you can’t remove the hard dodge, you say rangers have to little of a CD on there skills, well take look at engineer’s they can lay a smoke bomb that lasts 5 seconds that’s more then all our dodge chains. Go take look at it’s cool down.
Take look at mesmers they can jump around like no tomorrow.

Evasion skills don’t need to be removed. The CD’s need to be increased and the skills themselves made more impactful. A good example of a well degisned evasive skill is ele’s updraft. Its a kockback, swiftness, and evade, but on a long CD. Eles dont spam this skill to evade when endurance is low, they use it for setting up combos and for coutnering burst ect.
It shouldn’t be the case that rangers have 50% endurance regen, High Vigor upkeep, sigilis of energy, and low cd evasive skills. As it is right now evasive skills are used in the small window that you’re not dodge roll spamming. Rather than evasion skills being used in reaction to a read you get off your oppenent they are just used to fill the gaps that you cant dodge.
If you want them to change the CD and nerf everything to do with our tank, give us more damage to make up for the lose of tank.
Reason we need the heavy tanking skills is we DO NO DAMAGE…..

That 1 seconds is all you need. But I’m sure there is a bug it’s happened almost every single time I’ve tried to QZ stomp. I’ve stopped using it all together for stomping now its a good way to res downed people.
