The Shatterer - In my opinion.

Solitaire.3680

First off the Shatterer isn’t an Elder dragon so it’s not supposed to be Kralkatorik (or even close to his size) It’s a champion and I thought it was sufficiently cool looking for that.

But I do agree that people arent getting credit for the kill when they should be.. either getting silver bronze or nothing at all because they play more supportive roles or rezzing more.
I don’t know that I would want super long fights of just spam but maybe more Siege machinery or environmental weapons to use, after all whats shooting a crystal dragon with an arrow going to do really?

I actually enjoyed the shatterer fight, I thought the dragon looked great but yeah maybe some more strategy should have gone into the actual battle

Killing 1c undercutting

honestly on highly traded items it’s not worth it to undercut anyway, you only lose money because even matching the lowest seller will result in a quick sale, and even setting it a bit higher will lead to a sale eventually.
Yeah I think it’s a problem though for more rare items because you can’t exactly take yours off and undercut the guy who undercut you because you would lose another 5% so you just sit on yours hoping it will one day sell or take a loss and remove it a few weeks later

I wouldn’t mind if that 5% was refundable after you sell an item or remove it from sales, but keep the other 10% there when it does sell. Seems a bit much to take a double-hit both for trying to sell something and then for actually selling it, Where buyers pretty much get free reign

I agree it really needs to be communicated, I didn’t know about it for the longest time and was selling more than one thing at once so I didn’t keep track of what was coming in until I read it somewhere that it’s 15% rather than find out in-game.

^ Yeah I really did have a lot of fun during the BWE when there were a lot of events going on and sometimes a matter of deciding which one to do, or wandering halfway through zones when you hadn’t planned to because you were following a storyline. and then thinking where am I how did I get here? Oh well that was awesome!
I think the higher level zones are beautiful and well-done and have the camps and NPC’s and encounters but there needs to be the same level of events as there are in the newbie zones. The game is based around these events.. hearts really don’t cut it, at all. They were only supposed to be put in as a guiding feature to lead you to major event area’s but in reality sometimes that’s all I end up doing and it’s not remotely epic.

I never thought about it before but it would be brilliant if NPC’s made a priority to rez the player, you’re supposed to be allies and leading them into battle they should WANT to get you up.. and right now it really feels you are alone with some eye candy following you around making it feel like an artificial army.
The worst for me was Eir.. I thought she would be a tremendous ally at my side being a hero of destiny’s edge and my mentor. But she is next to useless and when she is downed it really didn’t make a difference.

Death during a cut scene

in Personal Story

Solitaire.3680

This happened to me twice now, the first was part of the vigil story where we had to cross a bridge to attack a weapon they want to use to take down the priory..
As I am crossing the bridge and fighting a cut scene triggers while I am still fighting NPC’s.. Now I could have skipped to the end but I wanted to listen to the dialog because I am very interested in Lore and don’t want to miss anything. When I came back I was just about dead and all my allies were downed and the rest of the mission became extremely difficult to do because it was just me alone and I couldn’t rez anyone so I had to try to pick them off one by one.

The other time was the end of the quest in Orr to destroy the ship that is spawning undead. I have to use some asura technology that sets the ship on fire instead and I have to escape. So there’s a fire condition on you but as I get to the top the cut scene triggers and rescues me but I die anyway and spawn back dead at the base. Not as big of a deal as the first one but still kind of annoying.

I don’t like having these scenes pull me from the world and what I am doing, and especially having my character all relaxed in a conversation while she’s being slaughtered in reality

I don’t get the personal story line either. My choices don’t matter because the end result is the same, and what the heck is your “home instance” for anyway? The only think that has ever compelled me to return to it, is if I didn’t get the POI. It never changes, so why bother? At lease in EotN, I felt like Jora and I had become best friends by the time I had finished the GW1 expansion and I was proud to make a Norn Warrior in this game, in her honor. What happened ANet? If Jora would have died, I would have been sad. The “companions” you kill off in this game? Whatever, cause I really couldn’t tell you anything about them anyway.

I am a norn and lvl 80 and do not know where my home instance is, I was never told to go there and I probably did to get the POI I guess? Or I did go there but thought it was just an instance? but my hubby and I were talking the other day.. he’s also a norn.. and he was like ‘Maybe I am really dumb but I don’t know where my home instance is.." and I was like you know you’re right.. I hadn’t even thought about it.

I didn’t like how it was soo easy to get downed in the first BWE and pretty much had to fight on your back but at least the fights should last longer

The one thing I have said all along was also that I would rather have the conversations actually happen in the world. Anytime Trahearne or whatever NPC has dialog and it happens while I am playing I enjoy that 100% more then my awkward character animations and facial expressions and horrendous Norn female voice. I wouldn’t even mind if my character didn’t talk at all but I could imagine what she would say instead.. I don’t like having any control of it. People have very strong idea’s of what their personalities will be like if they enjoy RP and this just takes all the power away.

The only place I can see the cut scenes having value is in the open world when there are other people around so when you’re the “hero” there isn’t 5 other heroes standing beside you doing the same thing

Solitaire.3680

The problem I have with transmutation stones.. if I had a skin I could only get once like in my personal story and put it on top of a very expensive but ugly exotic that’s fine. But if I ever want to change my look from that and don’t want to lose that one skin, but also still want to wear my exotic I would either have to buy a new exotic or transmute something over the skin I put on it and lose that look forever, as far as I know there would be no way to get it back?
I change my look frequently but honestly find the system very awkward if you’re someone who likes to do that.
I would have prefered a simple appearance tab that would over-write the look of your armor with one that you choose and you can remove it at will or don’t use it at all to keep the look of the armor you are wearing. That way you can keep as many looks as you like and not feel like such a momentous decision when you want to put a new look on.

See, if the entire game was the “end game” and you could travel anywhere you wanted and experience your favorite zones it wouldn’t be such a huge deal if Orr needed fixing… but that everyone funnels there because its the easiest way to get karma and gold it causes big problems. I for one would rather not go there because I haven’t even made it to the 3rd zone and I hate the first 2 already they are dark and depressing and just ruin after ruin. The only place I enjoyed was the beach and fort trinity. Even if it was working as intended I don’t know that I would want to spend a lot of time there but I feel if I am ever to get enough gold for exotics then I don’t have a choice and it doesn’t make me optimistic about my future

Travel cost go up with your level, cool but so should rewards!

in Dynamic Events

Solitaire.3680

if they scaled rewards to your level you’d have a bunch of level 80s running around queensdale killing easy stuff for XP and Money

I don’t think so, unless they made a lvl 3 quest equal to a lvl 80 one which they shouldn’t.. but it should be better then 1/10th especially because when you scale down there’s still risk of death ( and level 80 repair bills) and the way point costs to get around the zone doesn’t scale so even though you are scaled to level 3 you’re still paying as a lvl 80.

How else would you propose they make it worthwhile to populate the vast amount of area’s when the population is at level 80? Alt’s aren’t going to do it.. it has to be the level 80’s wanting to go back and feel its worthwhile.

This was also my problem leveling up, which led me to rush through the hearts to get enough xp to get to 80 so I could be where other people are. And now that I am 80 I really don’t enjoy Orr but the sheer amount of undead and their CC skills and my inability to have fun exploring and learning about the world.
Ideally I would have gone through slowly and enjoyed Dynamic events with people but maybe I was in the wrong zones or behind the curve in leveling (At first everyone was together and it was great! but slowly the hardcore players pulled ahead to the end and the rest of us spread out too much)
I remember running through Mount Maelstrom for over an hour..and seeing 2 dynamic events one was a Champion and no one around to kill it. I asked in zone chat but if there’s no chest people don’t want to come because of the waypoint costs to get there doesn’t justify it?
There is one champion Golem who Does drop a chest and when I said in /map chat later that he has a chest about 5 people showed up. Something is wrong when it’s only worthwhile to repeat the events with chests with a chance at getting something rare.

I like to solo or duo with my husband. Yeah it’s an MMO people will always say find someone to group with but for those who play at odd times or need to AFK frequently, talk to npc’s, take screenshots etc without holding anyone back,
this game was something I was really looking forward to how they worked the mechanics with not having to group but still getting to play with people.

The problem now is if you don’t have a group of people running around to different area’s there’s not enough to spawn events and if they do spawn they are too hard to do solo and not rewarding for the time invested compared to zerg events. I would love to see events spawning even with just one person going by, or just by themselves even..and if there’s not enough players? Well spawn more NPC’s! The world should still be happening no matter what.. it’s supposed to feel alive but it felt dead.

And I can’t blame players either for not coming back to the older events because they are just as hard with the exception of maybe 1-15 .. but after that downscaling pretty much makes you just as killable as anyone else, and you aren’t rewarded for your level but you still need to PAY for your level to travel around and repair yourself. It makes no sense but I have faith they are looking into this.. I don’t see how it won’t be fixed but obviously something that’s very challenging to balance so that it’s not just a matter of finding the easiest event in any given zone and zerging it.

Ugh, this is depressing, I am having a hard enough time finding events to do in any place except the orr zones nowadays (it’s funny I say that like it’s a year or 2 after release and not a few weeks) seems like the population is already too spread out and/or level 80 and getting the quickest loot in Orr.
And thought about going back to the Hinterlands or some of the more fun events that happen often. Oh well Orr here I come,,

Personal Story and lots of deaths...

I can think of one immediately that was un-soloable that was the level 11 norn quest as part of the Lost an Heirloom line. Scores upon scores of imps are thrown at you and anyone who has played knows imps nuke very hard, and these are imps on steroids like in BWE1. To win this me and my partner had to graveyard rush it.. and Eir is basically no help she doesn’t seem to do much damage for a member of Destiny’s edge! I was pretty disappointed in general by her “help” in the story.

Also battle of claw island was a bit ridiculous with so many undead, I find that ignoring everything and just running past them toward your objective was the only way to get it done. Even the “clear a path to the ship” part you can speed past them and there’s no need to clear a path.

The NPC’s that are supposed to be your allies seem to just be filler and can’t kill anything on their own. I don’t feel like they are my allies at all or even a point to rezzing them when they die.

Another thing is that I find there is too much grinding mobs in the personal story (this also relates to the player killing everything alone without any real NPC help) In the later quests there’s just wayy too many undead to kill back and forth even into area’s I have already cleared like the cave in Defending fort ranik (sp?)
I would rather the stories were actually more about story rather then just most of the quest being about mass killing.

I think there should be an “accept” revive when people are dead. So people won’t unknowingly rez afk people or botters. Or people that had to take an emergency afk – not realizing the outpost was a war zone and then come back completely naked with a huge repair bill! That happened to my husband when he had to leave quick when he was ill..

Oh and more on topic I have noticed that escort quests if you’re even in the area and happen to kill a mob near it you will run off and get a gold later for doing really nothing that you were aware of.

Event Participation Problems In Large Groups

in Dynamic Events

Posted by: Solitaire.3680

Solitaire.3680

I think if there are very few players participating in an event, it should give us better rewards like higher chance to obtain rare gear or more silvers.
There are some serious problems in the current system that:
(1) The less people participating, more time consuming and harder to complete.
(2) People tends to focus on easy and crowded events
(3) Almost no one in a specific zone but a lot in other area.

There is absolutely no point moving on in an area where there are few players, thus the vicious circle. Less player -> harder -> less player -> impossible -> now where is everyone?

Very much this! I am one of those people who like to stray off and do my own thing, I single handedly defended a quaggan village under water from a zillion swarms of 5 krait at once.. now I did feel proud of myself, and it took forever, but I could have gone to a busier zone and done 5 times as many events in less time. Been rewarded more for just casting one or 2 AOEs maybe? Zero chance of dying as someone is always there rezzing. I probably won’t be going back to defend that poor village (sorry Quaggans!) because you guys just didn’t pay me enough for all my hard work..
I would love if you’re on your own and the event takes you longer to complete you are awarded nicely for it. Other wise who is going to travel to the remote parts of the world other than for map completion?

I like that Karma should be account bound also. A lot of other things are also which don’t necessarily make sense in the universe. But they have made a big deal about things being account wide like guilds.. if I joined a guild on one character all of a sudden all of them are in it? How does that make sense lore wise? You could go on.. like you can craft an item for your legendary weapon on another character supposedly but legendaries are supposed to be some big thing that your character has accomplished him/herself. Karma would definitely be worthwhile to do that with or even just have a “pool” of karma that all characters can contribute too on your account.

Solitaire.3680

There’s an NPC named researcher Raekk who gives a heart quest to collect dwarven artifacts in Timberline falls.. Well I think it might not be working as intended because for one the weapons on the ground sometimes disappear when you run up to them, also they can disappear from your hand as your running back to a chest to put them in even without hitting any combat keys.
Another gripe is that they don’t spawn enough and other players can grab them first so this reminds me a bit of grindy old-school mmo quests where you are competing for spawns. Took me a heck of a long time to finish this one..
The dynamic event near this one is also bugged as nothing attacks the Krewe leader Dobbs but the event just stays there. Maybe thats how to get the heart done quicker I don’t know?

experience scaled better when you go to lower end zones (not equal to higher levels because they are easier, but worth doing if you don’t want to just do level 80 content to progress) and related to that waypoint costs for those zones equal across players.
also More dynamic events (even when you’re solo) at higher levels. Because the game isn’t going to be heavy populated everywhere and I don’t want to have to follow a zerg around in order to progress sometimes I like to run off the beaten track but still like action happening in the world.

I think it would be great if they added different dynamic events, and more, so if you’re running around solo you can experience them. I ran around Mount of Maelstrom for about an hour and half and saw only 2 and one I couldn’t do by myself.
Even people who get 100% map (keep in mind even with that there’s a lot you may not have seen yet) would be able to go back and experience new content in the zones.
I don’t know if they would be ready to release a new zone yet? Probably just adding features..

I’d actually be okay with paying the current price, IF the item had exotic stats. There are always very expensive armor sets, and there need to be some rewards that take a lot of work to get them – but after farming up more than 100 gold, you should at least have max stats.

Yeah I mean it would give me something to work for then I could actually use the armor and not transmute it onto something else. We don’t really know how much gold is going to come into the economy later in the games life and 100 gold may not be nearly as much as it is now. But it does seem unbalanced with the 30 and 60 stuff which is reasonably priced.. I just assumed because of those being reasonable at the level you can get them, that the max stuff would be also

There are probably too many things to mention in one post.. but yesterday I zoned into the 70-75 orr zone I forget the name. I ran around exporing and found a hospital with Vigil in it. So I usually like to talk to NPC’s to find out what’s going on but the hospital was immediately blown up by some unseen siege weapons (along with myself inside it) And invaded by Risen so I got back as quick as I could and drove them out and saved the place.
What I love is that no matter where you are you aren’t safe at an outpost. You always have to be on guard and the NPC’s can die along with you and help defend it. The merchants can’t sell when they are being attacked and in order to interact again you gotta save the place. It feels like a real living dangerous place when there is no safe spot unless you head back into the city or a massively fortified town.

Anyway I am curious what other people have experienced that just make them so excited to talk about?
