Anything but Norm.
Having you arm lenght actually bigger than your skill range is simply terrible >_<
I would like to mention that not every thief hates stealth or plays a non-stealth build alright?
GW2 has one of the most creative stealth systems in the current MMOmarket. I personally want to keep like that.
C’ mon guys
Everyone knows we are getting access to a focus.
After all, ANET would’nt be ANET if we don’t get a nerf somewhere.
Welp, as much as people like to cry about it:
Has backstab been nerfed hard yet?
Mug can’t crit. Ferocity Patch reduced every Critical Damage by around 10~20%.
Mighty was also nerfed so the Full Burst thief got a damage reduction as well.
Overall speaking the damage from Backstab droped from a easy 9k damage to around 5k with the same build. Mug can’t crit anymore and people moved from D/D to D/P so we also lose the damage from C&D
If you never noticed a damage drop on the Thief burst you are simply not trying hard enough.
Has stealth been nerfed hard yet?
- Reveal. 3 seconds for PvE/WvW and 4 seconds on sPvP
Rangers and Engies can “extend” that time for another 4 seconds with Sic’en and Googles.
- I am not sure how it was in the past but the Stealth from leap isn’t affected by the 1 extra-second-stealth Trait. And Infusing of Shadow was modified so you can’t freely regain initiative stacking stealth.
- There is also a limit on stealth stacks that works the same way as swiftness.
- Shadow Refuge instant reveals you if you leave the circle (it wasn’t like that in the past).
- In PvE mobs don’t lose aggro to stealth anymore.
- C&D animation was modified and added an extra delay. Its now harder to hit, more obvious to roll and takes more timing. (almost sure about this change, someone can confirm for me?)
- Could also list all nerfs to initiative regen as well, since indirectly it affects our access to stealth.
I don’t recall either of these happening or will happen.
We can’t trust your memory then.
This server is being full every freaking minute this week.
I am watching all my friends that I finally convince to buy the game scattering trough other servers.
Has anyone ever noticed this server as “Very High” a single moment this week?
Will end up having to transfer again. sigh
hi I am a backstab victim.
I have read this thread and I refute it with a lack of adaptation, logic, or even trying.
Thank you,
-scrubs everywhere.
Lies, scrubs won’t even bother reading this well written wall of text.
I prefer the TL:DR of the TL:DR
“You suck. l2p”
People have being complaining abou Last Refuge since beta.
It never changed.
Think it as a Thief nerf for SA users.
Best way to deal with it is simple stop attacking when you reach around 40% life, wait for it to trigger, heal up and get back to the fight.
Last refuge saved me many times already, but it kills you as many
Thief vs my mesmer:
“You critically hit … for 623 using [Ether Blast]” (best damage in that short fight)
“critically hits you for 8,277 using [Heartseeker]”
8,277 vs 623 WTF
Get to lvl 80.
x-bow can be thematic, if it uses magic attacks.
Alternatively, main-focus can be a bit like the cross from dante’s inferno ( but with guardian ankh projectiles )
Focus as a main hand weapon perhaps?
Would make sense
This question is being in my head for days, so I guess I will just flat ask it.
Does people still uses the movement mods like Battle mode or UCM or have most people simply adapted to GW2 natural control settings?
ANET never actually gave a confirmation if it was bannable or not so I wonder if that changed after 2 years.
I once took at 14k Killshot, and now they are making that skill 40% faster (thanks to some twisted game intentional unbalancing). If a warrior is stealthed there is no way to even see it coming. No skill should do more than 8k at full max berserker. In comparison it take 400% more time to cast a churning earth that does 50% less damage with a class that has 50% less hp.
You can reflect it.
Never actually explored the place to see if there is a way up.
Then again, a Leap skill can take you to some really nice places if used right.
- Sigil of Air and Fire combined is too powerful.
I fess up I’ve being abused this a lot.
No surprises if it get nerfed, It’s simply too good.
Then again, with the torment sigil some new builds are going to open nicely.
Anet should keep/record data on which skills are used and which are not… 3/5 of the changes are interesting, and then the two trap ones are kind like “meh, still not going to use them. Thanks for trying”.
From where do you think that the might stacking meta came from?
Anet has an OBLIGATION of tweaking the less used skills until they become viable.
Any 1v1 thief vids for spvp? Against meta builds preferably… Especially dps guards…
Guardians and Enginners are real nemesis classes for thieves on sPvP.
You might just run away from then until help arrivesNot to mention d/d eles… Terrormancers(with full DS), condi rangers n yeah almost all metas. Lol they’re so easy to use compared to thieves.
Thief is a ganking class. We can flat kill someone fast enough assuming he isn’t paying attention on us. But at 1×1 we will have a hard time to anyone who knows how stealth and teleport mechanics work.
Reason why I mention those two is that Engies turrets make ganking impossible (they will react to you regardless of what the engie is doing) and Guardians have way too much defenses to be killed fast enough.
D/D Eles and Terrormancers Necros are a pain at 1×1, but if you see then first and they are not paying attention to you, they die as fast as anyone else.
I do play Thief from Brasil.
Depends entirely on the day.
Its viable.
Then again, I DO rage all the time when I cast SR and it takes like 2 seconds to go down.
If your latency is around 120ms every class is still viable, you just need to think a step further.
This may be the first time I will use IP ever since it was added.
Shadows Rejuvenation, Invigorative Precision and Signet of malice could become the new D/D 0/6/6/2/0 build.
EDIT: I wouldn’t get happy guys.
usually those patch note previews don’t list nerfs.
We will need to wait for the full patch notes.

wow rogue after many change; nerf become challenge class so why after thief many change; nerf is not challenge class, why?
The word “challenge” here is mostly used by players that don’t play the class in question.
For some reason.
wow rogue never was instant kill class but high damage and have too much stealth… so why after 2 year guild wars 2 release, thief change;
Get your facts straight, thieves can’t insta-kill people on Gw2 ever since the Crit Dmg nerf.
PS: I am taking in consideration that you aren’t uplvled, glass cannon and low HP tier class. Because if you are, my Guardian can prolly instant kill you as well.
nerf, is very high damage and have many stealth? Why guild wars 2 stealth have no reveal by condition damage and other damage?
What sense does that make?
Thief player in party server say thief class nerf is no real nerf at all; no much different; still other class die fast and stealth hide all the time even stealth of object.
That phrase makes no sense.
Then again, like I mentioned in the last page, most players worth a salt are already used to fight against stealth.
Blizzard change for rogue class is challenge- no high damage; never instant kill and stealth too much= fun for other player
“fun for the other player”.
Yup, that pretty much defines the whole problem of the class after the nerf.
wvw is fun when i play with party and zerg only; i alone= no fun because instant kill waiting,
Wasn’t expecting anything more from you.
Any 1v1 thief vids for spvp? Against meta builds preferably… Especially dps guards…
Guardians and Enginners are real nemesis classes for thieves on sPvP.

You know its funny in Other MMO’s Rogues/Thieves/Assassins have permanent stealth and still do crazy damage. I’m really shocked that stealth gets so much hate in this game, it’s really a staple mechanic of every major MMO and Gw2 has a very balanced approach to how stealth is actually used.
I play many mmo’s game with rogue class, what mmo’s game? Name mmo’s game? Player would say unfair and company would change.
Here some Blizzard change to Rogue class
Patch 3.2.2.
1. Fan of Knives: The damage done by this ability has been reduced by 30%.
2. Throwing Specialization: This talent no longer causes Fan of Knives to interrupt spellcasting.
6. Honor Among Thieves: A 1-second cooldown is now enforced on how often a rogue can gain combo points from his party via this talent.Patch 4.2.0
1. Cloak of Shadows cooldown is now 2 minutes, up from 90 seconds. In addition, Cloak of Shadows is no longer on the global cooldown.
2. Combat Readiness and Cloak of Shadows now share a cooldown.
3. Stealth now once again begins its cooldown once the rogue leaves Stealth.Patch 2.3.0
1. If you are in Stealth and try to use an ability that may not be used while stealthed, you will leave stealth and use that ability.
Patch 3.1.2 Bug Fix
1. Shadow Dance: Issues with action bars and ability use arising from using Stealth while Shadow Dance is active have been fixed.
2. Tricks of the Trade: To prevent exploits, this ability can no longer be cast on non-player targets. This how wow stealth work- maybe arena net can make same if want or better
1. Stealth is a core rogue ability learned at level five. It prevents other creatures from detecting the stealthed player unless particularly close.
2. Stealth is no longer broken due to falling damage, unless of course it kills the stealthed unit. However, fire damage from camp fires will still reveal it.
3. Stealth is not invisibility. You can be detected by others. Monsters that detect you may stop in their tracks and turn to face you, or attack you directly. Players that detect you will hear a sound, and will be able to target you. The chance of detection increases as you get closer, but also depends on the viewing angle (stand right in front of an enemy and you can guarantee they’ll see you), the relative levels, and any perception or subtlety modifiers.
4. Taking any action such as looting or attacking will remove stealth. There are a few exceptions, such as [Distract], or [Pick Pocket]. Also as of patch 2.1.0, sapping an opponent does not remove the rogue’s stealth.
5. Most damage taken (including from AoEs or DoTs) will remove Stealth. However, fall damage will NOT remove Stealth.
6. Fear AoE’s and certain other AoE’s will remove Stealth.
7. Enemies much higher in level will tend to see through Stealth from quite a distance
8. Enemies you are in front of will see through Stealth as you get closer.
9. You cannot enter stealth while in combat. However, Rogues can use [Vanish] to equivalent effect. Note that if you have a DoT the Stealth will break the next time it damages you.
10. It is possible to eat and enter stealth, to reduce your chance of being seen while eating. This is useful, especially during PvP, where a certain crit can be fatal, or when going afk for a few minutes while restoring health.
Funny enough, our patch notes on Thief nerfs are a few times bigger than that.
(edited by SoulSin.5682)
I’m surprised it took so many posts before someone mentioned how broken thief stealth really is. Combine that with backstab? Good times. That end really fast. Not to hijack the post, but imho, thief stealth should be in line with mesmer’s invis.
But as others have said, when in WvW, ask in map chat for people to come with you, and mention you are having problems with a thief. If there’s a condi mez on the map, I’ll wager they’ll come help you just so they can kill the thief.
The difference is mesmers stealth is utility, thiefs stealth is part of the professions mechanic which is why its been broken and abused since creation. Anytime they try to balance it or bring it in line, people complain thief is broken because its part of the profession. And when they continue to do nothing people get angry its to overpowered and abused to hell. And if they put in to many ways to counter it with reveal skills, it will deter people from playing it. So kitten ed if you do, kitten ed if you dont. The entire profession and including stealth at all IMO was a giant mistake.
The problem is that stealth isn’t that much overpowered and any player worth a salt already noticed it a long time ago.
Whats the problem of being called boss?
Everything someone call me boss i feel like that guy
http://s3.amazonaws.com/rapgenius/You-see-im-not-like-a-boss-i-am-the-boss.jpg
Bumping this for necessity.
Yes, my statistics aren’t good, because I get dc often (but instant relogin) plus I do change profession to bunker to win the matches.
You pretty much answered yourself.
That being said, I’d like to see items on the scoreboard such as:
- Time held for blue/neutral/red for each capture point
- Team kills/deaths for blue/red at each capture point
- Individual stats: kills/deaths, healing (excluding self)/damage dealt (direct/condition), distance travelled, assaulted/captured/defended
- Secondary objective statistics
One word. Bunkers.
They will always be blamed for being in the bottom despite being the most important player in every team.
I am in favor of showing absolutely nothing.
I think the only fair thing to do is make disconnections that last less then 20 seconds not count. If I can be “dead” for 20 seconds, and not have it hurt my team, surely being disconnected for less than that can’t hurt my team either?
“Hey mate, we are losing! Take that ethernet cable off so I won’t lose points!”
by: Randon ranker playing PvP with guildies
Pls tell me about how predictable a doom/geomancy weapon swap is
‘Swap whenever possible’ to apply sigil effect, pretty predictable.
Swap whenever possible what?
Those sigils still have a 9 sec cooldown. You can’t escape that.
This is honestly the most demoralizing thing that can happen. Makes me not even want to run out the gate.
That isn’t the worst actually.
The worse is when you get a deadly silence followed by answers like:
“win”
“don’t die”
“kill”
Now then I REALLY want to ragequit.
Start of the ranked arena.
You ask who goes where at the beginning and the answer is a dead silence.
Match is lost.
What the hell you are talking about.
There is no overflow outside EoTM.
Though I am not against the round system fro Courtyard. Its not necessary.
The reason why teams get farmed is the “Conquest” mentality that you need to rush to the fight.
Smart teams will wait on base, regroup and rally from the side exits. Which rarelly happens on Pug fights
Elites are lvl 30 skills if I am not mistaken.
MistFire wolf is more of a flavor elite. Isn’t that usefull and doesn’t fit any build.
They should make 2 more TDM maps and remove then from the Conquest List.
This way we can enjoy this game mode meanwhile the haters play their point game.
Based on your Dota2 example we should start banning traits and/or rune/sigils from tournaments?
No offense, but 6 months is fine.
You NEED to have a period of adaptation and to gather enough data to rebalance again.
is there just not enough people doing it for the matchmaking to actually be able to work.
^This. IMO.
The concept of balance trough MMR works really fine on paper. Problem that in a small community its working as follow:
- or you have low MMR and is launched up by a good team
- or you have high MMR and is dragged down by a bad team.
I believe that any kind of public mention of MMR may be a problem.
Like Prysin mentioned, elitism is more than enough reason to not make that information public.
all in all, you can always make a premade team yourself.
what the..?
I though warping to the roof of Kyho wasn’t possible anymore.
I mean, you can’t even warp to the second floor normally.
Though I agree that leaderbords only work as fuel to the fire most of the time, it’s that very same fire that keeps PvP alive in most games.
If you remove leaderboards, PvP loses objective and competition. 2 traits that make PvP survive in any game.
Lastly, I agree that the whole team vs Pug is a problem. But GW2 isn’t the first nor the last game to do that.
Time to search for some PvP friends?
Why not attack the source of the problem?
We could nerf the might stacks.
Like for example, reducing the amount of power-per-stack on SPvP or reducing the max amount of stacks to 15 or so.
/raises Shield
None of the venons except the elite “Basilisk Venom” are useful in the current meta.
Save it for the day you have spare points. (you will, believe me)
I still play D/D on SPvP with two sword-sized-daggers simply because it looks cool.
(despite knowing that D/P is a hundred times more effective)
Those are usually the same people that goes AFK after getting those 10 points.
Can’t be helped if they are useless.
Times like that I keep spamming shift clicks on the map, usually they pay more attention to anonymous dots on the mini-map than someone complaining on chat.
There are tons of games with better PvP than here.
But if you take the Korean Free to pay games, no matter how great the gameplay is, all the balance and pay to win problems will probably bring you back here.
PS: I wouldn’t expect a good gameplay from games like EverQuest Next and Black Desert.
Sand box games are too focused on building houses to care about PvP.
Got fixed:
Fixed a bug that prevented interact UI from showing while moving the camera.
Was happening meanwhile holding right button.
Superior Sigil of Cruelty:
Gain a charge of +10 ferocity each time you kill a foe—five if you kill an enemy player.
oh F**K YEAH
I am back
Well, can’t say for sure if that’s your problem but yes, High 70º C is pretty high.
You may want to check if your CPU ventilation is working properly.
Now explaining everything quick:
MMos in a general way loads more your CPU than your GPU.
This usually happens because, different from your common sandboxed game, you can’t control how many “polygons” are on screen.
You may be alone in the middle of the map with a few NPCs, or you may be at the middle of a WvW with 100 players each side.
All that calculation is done trough the CPU, meanwhile the GPU just add some textures here and there. Witch is why, one any open world PvP MMo, CPU usually loads more than the GPU.
(most PC games limits the number of players in a single room for that very same reason. Like 32×32 on a FPS game)
You may want to run CCleaner to check temp files and fix the Registers.
There are many programs to tune up the PC as well. Just to make sure you aren’t having and problem with software compatibility
In all, I had a problem pretty close to that some years ago. And it was the CPU overheating. I can’t asure that you are having thesame problems.
Still 70ºC is pretty high. Though you won’t beat the 92ºC I used to reach those days. =P
Check your Core temperature.
That problens often hapens when the core is overheating
Does anything similiar happens in any other game?
Is there any way to?
Was nice like a year ago. Now its just annoying.
1,5 Gb for 10 minutes is great actually.
I am already used to fraps 1~2gb per minute.
