Where does the Elementalist Shine?

Sparks The Rescue.5043

For a great deal of time when I pugged every single dungeon and fractal I ran as an elementalist, I found it worth it to run the trait set up 6/4/0/4/0. It sacrifices a 10% damage modifier in either lightning or earth that you can re-trait when running with a coordinated party, but it gives you access to a second heal and another condition cleanse when switching to water. This was critical for my elementalist in PuG groups that lacked synergy and players that have an understanding of the content and how to deal with it.

Also, just make sure you’re starting the encounters by blasting in a fire field for might and fury, use Glyph of Storms in air attunement for the 25 vulnerability, and be sure to drop an ice bow. Just by doing this you have given your party close to +750 power , +25% damage, and +20% critical chance. The ice bow itself is going to give your party a 5 second stun, and strong dps with ice bow #4.

Also, without knowing your trait and gear setup, I will just say that it will be beneficial to run berserker gear either using S/D, D/F, or Staff. Any one of those three builds have a strong place in the current Dungeon / FoTM meta.

Get Rid of Stacking.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sparks The Rescue.5043

Sparks The Rescue.5043

Stacking isn’t really anything to do with the mobs, most of the time. It’s so that party wide buffs (ie, might, fury, prot, aegis, etc) are given to everyone and it’s easy for pulls. It’s also one of the reason why people who camp range aren’t as appreciated in parties.

I mean, what would boss fights look like without stacking? Just fighting on the boss? That’s still stacking, just not in a niche little corner. Melee is clearly stronger than range in this game, so you would at least be within 300 range of the boss. DPS will still be damage per second, and ice bow 5 will still freeze the mob in a corner or out in the open. Stacking as a damage component is quite meaningless now with the FGS nerf. It’s just a centralized spot that people go to for buffs and pulls. If you’re worried about trivializing content, well, my friend, that’s nothing to do with stacking.

Will buying HoT be mandatory? (like in WoW)

I’m sure HoT will not be mandatory to buy, but I imagine it’s going to have the likes of how GW:EN was when it was released for Guild Wars 1. GW:EN was not required, but when it came down to it, I practically had to buy it. I wasn’t able to run any meta builds (because of quite frankly how OP was the EoTN skills were), no parties wanted me because I lacked these skills and could not fill out the standard meta builds, and I had a severe lack of access to improved content (builds, skills, heroes, etc) which had a very detrimental impact to my characters.

300 gold for Mystic Forge Precursor Gambling?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sparks The Rescue.5043

Obviously there is a chance you will profit, and obviously there isn’t. Though, it is well advised that if you have 300 gold, then do not throw all 300 gold into the forge. If you want to gamble a little bit, and that’s fun for you, start out with 100 gold, and see what you get. If nothing, farm a little bit more and keep trying. But, I definitely would not advise you to toss every last silver into the forge on the backs of hopes and dreams to get a precursor. 300 gold itself is a very small amount compared to what others have tossed in, and you could be left with just a couple exotics and rares.

Adding end-game content that is race-based will arbitrarily block content from players based on a non-game play and irreversible decision when they created their characters. Personally, I do not think this is a good idea. It pretty much means for ArenaNet that they have to create 5x the content divided for 1/5 of the players.

I do like the idea of order-specific missions and game play. I would really like to see ArenaNet separate the three orders from the Personal Story, and give more content to each- treating them like Factions in the game. In my own little dream world, I would really like to see Fortunes Vale brought back and instead of it being WvW zone – it could be given a huge raid instance for the Whispers / Vigil / Priory missions and it could rotate bosses in the Vale w/ different and unique rewards for each boss, similiar to Urgoz and the Deep w/the Luxon & Kurzick Factions in Guild Wars 1.

Personally, I think Fortunes Vale was a great idea and I hate to see that it was temporarily trashed. I think a multi-party raid-style map is exactly what a lot of players want, and the opportunities they create are enormous (guild missions, order missions, world raid missions, new additions to WvW, etc).

This map is absolutely amazing. Just from the 3D render there is so much detail and nuance and design to it. It’s absolutely amazing. Whether this is a WvW game type, or a big guild raid, or a multiple group instance, I think it would be absolutely amazing to play. I think this would be a breakthrough for Guild Wars 2.

Whether it’s still in the DAT or not, I sincerely hope ArenaNet is still working on it behind the scenes, or at least have it on back burner while they are gearing up for HoT. I would love to see this in a feature path after HoT for bigger group raids or guild events.

Well…. there’s one problem with that….. If there are three fractal dailies every day, then how am I going to log in and get credit? Fractals take too much effort. I vote for them to bring back daily dodger that only requires 2 dodges, and create a new one for daily waypoint and I will compromise with WvW big spender. Gotta keep one of them in the game for the hardcore players, I guess.

Well, the good news is that a lot of new content hasn’t been added to the game outside of Living Story (which you probably have locked out at this point) so unless you want to purchase the whole story, I’d say the biggest thing you might want to check out is the new Silverwastes map. It’s a grindfest of loot and gold.

As far as your condi spec, dungeons and fractals always have been and still are dps oriented, meaning running full berserker gear + trinkets for your thief will be the most optimal. s/p and d/d with 2ndary shortbow are usually the recommended weapon sets.

d/p thief problems

in Thief

Posted by: Sparks The Rescue.5043

Sparks The Rescue.5043

Hi all, I recently just started getting into pvp. I’m at about 100 games played and I seem to be having a really hard time. I run the typical 2/6/0/0/6 d/p thief. My win rate is about 50%, and I feel like winning or losing is either if we have a bunker spec or if they have a bunker spec. It’s just completely random, and I feel like the match is decided before we even enter.

I’ve watched video after video, and I just can’t seem to win 1v1’s versus any class except really bad mesmers, and on the flip side, really good mesmers eat me for breakfast at 1200 range with condi’s and CC – along with rangers, as well.. Now, Sometimes, even losing 2v1s’. I know my job in a pvp match as a thief is to get de-caps, but every time I try to cap home or cap far, there is is either a turret engi or a guardian or a good warrior or someone standing on the point and I can’t beat them for anything or I am unable to cap anything because I can’t engage against any class.

The classes I struggle with the most are good mesmers at 1200 range with greatsword and condis, rangers at 1200 range with their burst, guardians, turret engis, a good d/d elementalist, and staff necros, and hammer warriors. (I know, pretty much every other class.)

So, I was wondering if there are any pointers you can give me about the thief class to help me engage points and give me the advantage in 1v1’s or deal with some of the afore mentioned specs. Again, I know my job isn’t 1v1, per say, but its pvp and there is going to come a time when I need to hold my own, and right now it’s just kind of a trainwreck.

Once again Guardian or Warrior?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sparks The Rescue.5043

Sparks The Rescue.5043

Both classes are equally overpowered in the meta right now. They both have their roles, their niches, their strengths (which vastly outnumber their weaknesses) and over all will benefit a party and be welcomed into any party at all times.

Unlike what many others are saying, I personally feel like the difference is not really a matter of survivability for the two classes – no matter what class you play, with enough experience of the content and class either will be able to stay alive, and both Guardians and Warriors are both able to make numerous mistakes and get away with them. Guardian definitely has a higher skill ceiling and takes more experience with the content to be good. If you run with a good guardian, a well-timed aegis is very appreciated. Guardian is definitely a more active class, too; warriors just toss down a banner and weapon swap through their rotations for optimal DPS.

Usually when ANET does something like this they are planning better gathering tools but want players to spend their gems so they can purchase more gems.

Quoted for truth. I will put money on this, come PAX South / LS they will reveal an entire new line of harvesting tools that give something similar to the watchwork tools, and everyone will rush to buy them because they give x items upon gathering.

I remember when the watchwork tools were released, I heard plenty of players who already had three of the infinite harvesting tools rush to buy the watchwork ones at the expense of 3,000 more gems just because they gave sprockets and they were used to create the new ascended back piece.

Normally, I don’t bother with cut scenes in guild wars 2 because they’re usually done in a way that uses game play footage instead of GW2’s aesthetic. However, after watching this cinematic and seeing just how good it was, I, for some reason, had wondered why I hadn’t seen a cut scene like this before in GW2. The point of this thread is just to say how ridiculously stellar the animation and production of this cut scene was. This is next level ArenaNet for me. I mean, did anyone else catch how kittenly smooth the transition was between the margonite (???!!?) clip and Rytlock’s fiery dragon sword and how cleanly the animation flows from clip to clip?? 10/10 would recommend.

Yak’s losing would not help them take red garrison, in fact quite the opposite! But the colors do rotate, they do not depend on whether you won or lost the week before.

False.

1st = green
2nd = blue
3rd = red

Always.

Then how do you explain Yak’s being blue this week since they won last week?

It’s not always the case, but there is a slight chance of deviation but it very frequently favors 1st to 2nd, or 2nd to 3rd, and almost never 1st to 3rd (as the problem I am having.)

From my understanding, WvW colors are determined by match up and server rank. Green is assigned to first, blue is assigned to second, and red is assigned to third with a slight chance for deviation, with the % of green (1st) changing to red (3rd) being the lowest and since Yaks Bend controls the silver league, the percent chance that Yaks Bend loses or the algorithm assigns Yaks Bend to Red is both very low. So, this is where you find me… 99.9% world completion lacking a few very easily red defendable areas in EBG, and unable to get them.

is like waiting for rain in a desert. WvW colors need to be on a set rotation… It is very discouraging to play after I have been waiting for the vista and PoI inside of red’s home keep due to the fact that most servers don’t give up their home keep and given the close proximity to the home WP, it is very easy to defend and/or re-cap making the ppt hardly worth it to attempt to flip it in the first place. To put it into perspective, out of the last 24 weeks Yaks Bend has been red twice (and, unfortunately for me, I have either missed it or have been focusing on a different aspect of my legendary unaware of how much a pain in the kitten WvW map comp was going to be, and also not realizing it was going to take 20-something weeks to be red again.)

At least, I suggest making it so Edge of the Mists (a much more flip-friendly WvW area) count for WvW Map completion, or just scrap WvW for map completion as a whole.

I am so close to incinerator and it is very much discouraging me from playing the game because I am tired of waiting for Yaks bend to lose in WvW or for the slight chance that it may turn Red after taking 1st place.

Cele ele can i play something else please?

The OP is a ranger and is complaining everywhere in game about ele’s. He laid into me the other night in sPvP because I was playing an ele and verbally abused me the entire time because I kept killing him. I would just disregard what he is saying to be honest as it holds no value considering the game play involved.

For a little perspective, he got mad that I killed him in cele gear the first match. Then I switched to condi spec the second match, and he got mad that I killed him in ‘cele gear’. The third match I switched to soldiers for giggles and killed him again and he spent the entire time telling me I was bad and all I did was spam buttons and that d/d was easy mode. I then switched to this account to see if he was doing it to ‘any’ ele that killed him and proceeded to get verbally abused after I killed him on a scepter build because I was in cele armor. I then switched to a scepter/focus condi build and killed him again the next match I saw him in…. and you guessed it, got verbally abused.

So umm yeah….

I love it when this stuff gets posted and comes full circle back for the OP.

Elementalists and CoE...

Hi guys, let me start off by saying that I am not new to the elementalist class nor Crucible of Eternity. I have taken my elementalist through every dungeon and done just fine, and have enjoyed it, HOWEVER…. CoE is so much more of a pain than anything else and I don’ know why. I’m running S/D and D/D most of the time and stacking anywhere between 12-18 stacks of might, but it also seems like I take aggro 100% of the time and just constantly get downed. I mean, CONSTANTLY. P1 is especially a kitten, because P2 and P3 atleast have the red circles so I know when to dodge. I’m running full zerk with 5/4/0/4/0. I took 2 points out of earth and put it into water for the condi removal since I seem to have 100% burn on me regardless of how many times I cleanse it. I normally take arcane wave, glyph of storms and lightning hammer as my utilities.

Do you guys have any advice on better utilities to bring or tips to help an elementalist survive in this dungeon? I can run all 3 paths with my thief without dying once, but the second I step foot into CoE with an elemetalist I have aggro 100% of the time and cannot stay up.

GW2's business model and the NPE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sparks The Rescue.5043

the gem store is an entirely different set of problems from the NPE. You could have made the same point without the pointless appeal-to-profit argument by pointing out that Anet said that the early game was scaring new players away.

Without the “appeal-to-profit argument” it doesn’t explain *why the NPE was put into the game. Without it, the argument would sound something like -

The experience was scaring new players away, so ArenaNet changed the NPE so that new players were introduced differently to the game.

Why does ArenaNet care if not for the livelihood of Guild Wars 2? Obviously, the “appeal-to-profit argument” you are saying I could do without is essentially the entire answer for why the NPE changes were made. New players are an investment into Guild Wars 2 and for this game to sustain itself it needs new players. That’s just plain and simple business 101.

No one who has ever played an MMO or CRPG can honestly say they found Queensdale “overwhelming,” and I question the wisdom of trying for new player retention by making the first six to twelve hours of your game, as in, how said new players are introduced to it, stale, boring, and completely lacking in variety.

You’re still addressing the NPE with your stale-mindset that “If I didn’t see it as problem, then it must not be a problem to anyone.” News Flash: That’s not how it works. Also, queensdale isn’t the problem in itself – its the amount of things that are available to the new player at one time, this is why ArenaNet has gated content for new players.

GW2's business model and the NPE

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sparks The Rescue.5043

Sparks The Rescue.5043

Guild Wars 2’s business model demands that the NPE be in place. Guild Wars 2 supports itself through box sales and gem sales. It’s business model is to get players in the game and in the gem store. ArenaNet has said (in response to the player’s feedback about the NPE) that their numbers frequently showed that they were losing a lot of investment because new players were front-loaded with too much content at one time. Personally, when I first started Guild Wars 2 at launch, I remember running around Queensdale skipping nodes, skipping merchants, trying to figure out hearts, not understanding the trading post, trying to find a main city, etc etc. As a level 80 character, do I have these same problems? Of course not… but that does not mean that new players do not still have this confusion upon entering the game for the first time. The NPE addressed this issue in hopes to get the new player gradually into the game and into the gem store. For all you level 80 characters, the NPE was not for you – just accept it. It is not ‘dumbing down’ the game, nor is it assuming that the player base is dumb. It’s a guide for new players to experience content at a gradual pace.

The NPE was put into the game with the vision to sustain GW2’s F2P business model.

In my opinion, I would rather craft a legendary that I really want*. I see a lot of people on these forums in Legendary threads talk about how they are crafting the absolute cheapest legendary just to say they have a legendary weapon – for accomplishment purposes more than anything else. If you’re having second thoughts, then I’d give it a real thought if whatever legendary weapon you have in mind, ask yourself if it’s a skin you really want.

Also, I was in your shoes for a long time. I told myself I didn’t want to go through the grind for a legendary, and I’d just buy some cool weapon skins. Alas, many ethereal skins, and chaos skins, and super skins later, here I am grinding out for a legendary. They got boring, and legendary skins became more enticing – so I took my few hundred gold loss on those skins and started my grind for Incinerator.

WORLD BOSSES

Before:

  • Open an online timer for your server, group with like-minded players and do events that you want when you want. Feel yourself as a hero who willingly saves Tyria from daily threats! Feel how the world is living and changing because of you, coordinate with people and announce the next boss you gonna beat!
  • Beat a world boss with some 3-5 people next to you at low hours, and feel great because it was challenging and fun! Or do not beat it and understand that your efforts were not enough and you should get better.

Now:

  • After the Megaservers improvement, put a list of times for world bosses next to your PC and stop doing whatever you were doing offline to join the boss you want to play. Feel like you’re doing a scheduled task at your job in the office.
  • Always be accompanied by a megazerg, tag and spam “111” to win. No need to know the encounter, you won’t see anything because of particle effects and lags.

Your before and after points aren’t logically connected. You honestly just named 2 subjective (“felt like a hero”, “now I feel like its a chore”) statements about World Boss Events before and after the MegaServer update, regardless of if they are logically and factually(!important) connected to the MegaServer change or not. In one sense, arguing that you feel like the world boss events are a chore after the MegaServer update is not a valid or factual critique of the MegaServer update in itself, it’s just a personal change you have felt over time.

This "Meta" has to end

Sparks The Rescue.5043

Not saying rejection is a problem for me. It is a problem for those getting rejected and I can see how being tossed out of groups constantly makes them bitter and sad. The problem is that they don’t turn inwards to see that maybe they should change and adapt but prefer to fill up the forums with tears.

So if there’s another set that puts out comparable damage as zerker then why is there a problem? Do people not like Assassin’s?

Conditions are broken – I agree – but I doubt anyone can fix them. 2 Years into the game and they haven’t been fixed. I think we all know why – they cant’t.

The problem with people whining about getting kicked out of berserker groups is that they keep joining them. It’s totally and utterly baffling to me how someone can see the efficiency in the berserker groups, and whine because they can’t be apart of them, but also at the same time want to sit comfortably in PTV armor types. I don’t feel sorry for them, and neither should ArenaNet.

Assassin’s armor combination is prec/power/ferocity. It’s the exact same stats as berserker, just the primary stat is precision instead of power. Secondly, conditions can be fixed; this is a virtual game run by code. Anything can be fixed, made, and adjusted.

This "Meta" has to end

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sparks The Rescue.5043

Sparks The Rescue.5043

The core issue is that the “Berzerker Meta” is all about rejecting other gear combinations and styles, that’s why it generates so much annoyance.

It’s more about rejecting people who aren’t part of “the meta”.

Now – the real issue is – how do you get people to stop rejecting other people? You can’t.

It’s every player’s right to play the way they want and with whom they want. If that means rejecting people based on whatever criteria – be it gear, class, AP or even character race there’s nothing people can do about it except complain.

Which isn’t going to help.

Potato potahto, as you say itself, it’s about rejection.

The rejection is why people complain.

They only have a point insofar as the rejection is kind of pointless.

~~~
The weird thing is that you read this as if people are going to force you to run with them. You can always reject people if that’s what gives you jollies, even the most extreme requests in the thread (nerfing zerker and changing gear balance) still won’t force you to play in what you think is a suboptimal way.
Yes but you are missing the point.
It’s not rejecting certain types of gear but certain types of people. The core issue is rejection.
If zerker was changed the people being rejected right now because they’re not meta would still be rejected for being non-meta and not wanted .
You want to fix “the meta issue” and I’m trying to explain why you can’t. People will reject people they don’t like or don’t want to play with. You are not fixing the problem by changing the zerker meta.
I think both of you might be a bit logically confused. Rejection is merely the ;reaction to the problem, not the problem, in itself. By arguing that rejection is somehow the problem, it would logically follow that the natural course players should to take to fix the problem is adopt the mindset that we should all just play together regardless of armor type – which, I think that we can all agree, doesn’t fix the problem. It’s a facade over the problem, it gives us the illusion that we can all play together in a world without vote-kicks, but that doesn’t mean groups that have formed that have players in full berserker gear will not still be more efficient at clearing content than those that do not.
Obviously, the core issue is at how effective berserker is in clearing content over other offensive armor combinations. If conditions could deal relatively close damage per second to a full power, berserker build, then it would be allowed in meta groups – but it can’t. For content that is geared towards speed-clearing, the only thing that can generate the same damage per second close to berserker is assassins, and that’s what’s wrong with the current state of the game.
[sugg] dailies
Sparks The Rescue.5043
Great suggestion, I’d love to see something of this sort implemented alongside the normal dailies. As of currently, I enjoy the WvW dailies the most because they have purpose and accomplish a specific task (eg, capture a tower, keep, etc) and are more interactive than just recycler or daily gatherer. They implemented a quest rotation system in pre-searing Ascalon in GW1 and it was a well received, positive change by the player base. I’d really like to see something like this implemented for the daily system in Guild Wars 2, as well.
I’d say at the least, however, keep the current dailies for the players that want them and enjoy them, and group them up for 2 or 3 per 1 AP and offer the quests for 1 daily AP or scaling the difficulty for higher AP / daily rewards. I think this would really get players involved in the maps and in the events and give a purpose-driven daily system.
Let us salvage ascended rings
Sparks The Rescue.5043
I think most people in this thread have forgotten that ascended quality was created as a horizontal progression style-grind to separate the casuals with exotics from the dedicated players with ascended. Being able to buy/sell ascended gear on the TP will completely crash the market and bring the game back to where it was pre-ascended quality with players complaining about not having end-game gear sets and/or anything to separate themselves from other players. Ascended quality was introduced into the game because players peaked too quickly into full exotic quality gear, hence the time-gated materials needed for ascended quality items.
Also, being able to salvage an ascended ring for 10 globs of ectoplasm is absolutely ludicrous, given the drop% of rings from fractals alongside pristine relics and fractal relics that are already given in combination with the fact that one is already able to run different fractal tiers a day that give these rewards.
During this fractal, Rox and Braham appeared to have not fully entered the area where this final event takes place. After a party whipe to try to reset the NPCs, Rox and Braham then entered, however they would aggro to someone and just follow them around the area without triggering anything.
If you create an ice cream store where people have to buy a vanilla ice before they can buy a chocolate ice, and someone has to buy 20 ice creams before they can have a Strawberry ice, how many customers will you keep? Will they buy all those other ice creams just to get what they actually want unlocked?
I was talking about 1. Allowing people to be able to buy and play the game. You’re talking about 2. People already playing the game and current game play mechanics.
Look, I didn’t find it frustrating one bit. In fact I found it really engaging and exciting. The excitement got better when I got new weapons to try out and was able to whack monsters and learn those skills quite naturally. Instead now a player has to wait till they are level 10 just to fully use a weapon set, but wouldn’t you know it, when he equips another set he gets 5 whole new abilities without actually ever working to grind out those abilities as per the old, organic way. You can’t even use an offhand right away. I mean really? Taking the sword and board away from a guardian or warrior right at the beginning of a game? Taking a ranger’s PET COMMANDS away right at the beginning of the game? These Fkey abilities are the core mechanics behind the class and it’s now behind an artificial wall. ANet is forcing players to wear oven mitts and safety helmets for crying out loud.
So, great, I’m glad you are enjoying the game. The concept here to grasp (which you really are not) is that while you personally may not have been frustrated, the system CAN / POTENTIALLY / MAY lead new players to be, which is why ArenaNet changed some aspects of it. Again, by level 15, you have everything unlocked! And not only that, but they made leveling to 15 even faster than it was before! All in all, at the end of the day the player is going to 1. Have everything unlocked by level 15 and 2. Has had a much smoother introduction to the game and has learned valuable core concepts and merchanics.
Again, from a perspective of a mesmer, teaching someone their core skills such as mind wrack (f1) when the player doesn’t even have a firm grasp on their weapon #3 ability to summon a clone is a slippery slope. Or, again, from a perspective of a warrior, teaching someone to use their adrenaline based f1 ability when they do not even grasp yet the idea of gaining adrenaline is a slippery slope.
Lastly, as for your elementalist needed cantrips – this is why ArenaNet is changing the difficulty and dodge mechanics of lower leveled enemies – so the player does not become reliant on utilities to stay alive as much as his ability and skill and knowledge of the game play mechanics.
If you create an ice cream store where you only serve people who know how to recite the alphabet backwards…. on a scale of 1 to dumb that would be literally the dumbest thing you could do for your business. You’re locking out potential customers who will help your business grow and succeed.
Short answer, it doesn’t.
There is not a single educational study anywhere that shows that drawn out pacing helps with education. In fact if anything the majority of studies show that students learn and retain the best when a subject is newest, and that once it is drawn out repetition is best.
New system blocks all basic information at the start when you are most likely to retain it, and never repeats the advanced information more than once later on. From an educations perspective, this has been set up in the absolute worst way possible.
I will be the first to very quickly say you have it backwards. The few minutes that it takes for you to review and think about what you are trying to learn is the minimum length of time that neuroscientists believe is necessary to allow thought to go into a lasting, more easily retrievable memory.
Repeated exposure to information in specifically timed intervals provides the most powerful way to fix memory into the brain. Deliberately re-expose yourself to the information more elaborately if you want the retrieval to be of higher quality. Deliberately re-expose yourself to the information more elaborately, and in fixed, spaced intervals, if you want the retrieval to be the most vivid it can be. Learning occurs best when new information is incorporated gradually into the memory store rather than when it is jammed in all at once. … Memory is enhanced by creating associations between concepts. This experiment has been done hundreds of times, always achieving the same result: Concepts presented in a logically organized, hierarchical structure are much better remembered than when placed randomly — typically 40 percent better.
Kamui, your first post on this forum was 9 months ago. Assuming that you started playing Guild Wars 2 prior to or at the same time of your first post, with 9 months experience, I’m sure it wasn’t very difficult. However, imagine doing what you are doing, with say, 9 minutes experience. Can you atleast see how this could be challenging to a new player?
I had 9 minutes of experience when the game was released 2 years ago. Your argument is invalid.
We aren’t vapid sponges.
I don’t understand your point… Okay, so everyone was new to the game when it was released. Obviously. But that doesn’t mean ArenaNet can not make improvements and changes to a system that increases confusion and overall leveling frustration for new players (in this case, learning 4 attunements in a matter of 20 minutes.)
But, as I said before, those types of changes were directed at exactly those types of players – the one’s who had never played before. Excluding GW2 to only players who have extended MMO experience is a business plan that is destined to fail. Make the game so anyone can buy it and anyone can play it.
There’s a difference between those who’ve never played an MMO before and those with severe brain damage. Adding tooltips and hints is great. Introducing events or combat mechanics that teach new players is great. Adding roadblocks to things like skill progression, gathering, traits, dodging, underwater, and downed is just a hand-holding a 3 yr old. It doesn’t teach. It hampers play by making it boring and it really dissuades veteran players or even people who have played MMOs before from rolling alts. Honestly, many MMO players are drawn to this game type specifically because it forces some deeper thinking and in-game experimentation.
Ok, so I’m fairly confident a veteran MMO player will have no problem leveling to 15 in a few hours and then everything will be fine.
In this second feature patch, ArenaNet has done nothing but listen to the community….
Except for the NPE changes, which were based on feedback from a surveyed group who had never played the game before. Based on Anet’s handling of their feedback, they had probably never played any game before.
You do understand how the general learning process goes, don’t you? It starts with the basics, first. You have to learn algebra 1 before you learn algebra 2. Teaching a level 1 character how to say, use a trap in WvW, before teaching them how to dodge is a very slippery slope.
Level-gating an Elementalist’s earth attunement until level 24 is akin to teaching simple addition to the character in this metaphor, I assume.
Elementalists are the most, if not in the top 2, complex professions in Guild Wars 2. This is to help a new player learn the class. Giving them 20 skills in a matter of 5 levels is just too much, not to mention help them learn the skill to attunement swap when needed. This, also, I feel like is a great change to a learning elementalist.
If you are rolling an alt, this feature patch wasn’t designed for you. This feature patch was designed for players who have never loaded the game before. If you’re upset because you feel like ArenaNet is gating and locking mechanics for reasons that don’t apply to you, then I’m sorry. That’s just the nature of leveling a character – having to start from the beginning.
In this second feature patch, ArenaNet has done nothing but listen to the community, and give new players better avenues to do content while at the same time feeling more powerful and learning the core mechanics and concepts of the game which are needed at level 80.
That’s actually not true. I dunno which community you’re talking about but at no time did I ever see any post in these forums about how confusing or disorienting the leveling process was. Seriously. Where are the posts?
All I’ve seen from a casuals standpoint is the repeats of the same old suggestions requests. Why doesn’t the game reward you, where is the loot, why can’t I get gear without gold, why is it so difficult to afford sigils and runes as a new player. Why is there a limit on condition stacking? Why is there almost no diversity in the PVE builds for open world? Why are these people kicking me from dungeons because I’m not zerker built? Why are traits so costly. Most of which can be found in the suggestions archives.
.
Some of the systems that were implemented in the second feature patch were a direct result of the player base outcry over the changes from the first feature patch. These forums were swamped with posts about how slow the leveling process became, and due to the initial trait nerf, how weak one’s character felt. This second feature patch addressed those issues by giving players reward chests and bonus stats to help the player feel more powerful as he/she goes through content [quicker]. As far the general leveling process goes and the player’s understanding of it, that was an addition ArenaNet felt they needed to add based on their knowledge and understanding of a player’s initial reaction to the game.
Second, as far as the loot scaling goes, ArenaNet has addressed that as well in this patch by making slight changes to the code to help players loot items that directly related to the class he/she is playing. Also, as far as the whole “why can’t I get stuff without gold” standpoint goes – in any game, there is always going to be a currency. Some items are going to be expensive, and some items are not. However, in Guild Wars 2 gold is not the only currency in the game. If one is having trouble with gold as a new player, use karma, instead. Lastly, ArenaNet has already addressed the issue with the berserker meta, and has showed that they are implementing changes to help this case (i,e ferocity).
P.S Getting kicked in a party that advertises “80s zerk, speed, exp only” and you join in full givers gear is not ArenaNets problem, imo.
You want to teach players about this game anet? how bout actually telling players stuff that you would have to look up on the internet? think like how combo fields and finishers work? how traps in WvW are used? How conditions and boons affect gameplay.
I feel as though the second feature patch as a whole was a great addition to a new player’s experience (ie, someone who has never loaded the game before.) Now, as far as someone creating an alt, sure, one might be upset because he/she feels like ArenaNet is time gating and restricting mechanics due to reasons that might not apply to him because he already has an 80 character, but to be completely and brutally honest, this portion of the feature wasn’t direction towards these kinds of players.
I can understand players disliking the new leveling re-work, starting with the first feature pack. There were some systems implemented, that I feel though, do make the game more challenging and antithetical of ArenaNet’s core idea about the leveling process. However, as far as this second feature pack goes, I strongly believe this was a step in the right direction. Most of the systems implemented as far as personal leveling goes, were to help patch some things players were upset about with the initial first feature patch – which is a great thing.
Also, on locking skills by level and not experience /kill anymore, ArenaNet has designed the system so that all of the big major unlocks (pre patch) are unlocked by level 15. Not only that, but ArenaNet has also made it faster to level to 15.
I’m all for finding a class that fits your play style. Except, in the original post, I didn’t seem to get the vibe that was the issue because the OP had said he was having a great experience prior to the patch.
Not only that, but while they have gated some content, they’ve also sped the leveling process up to level 15. This is a list of everything you have unlocked at level 15:
Weapon skill 2 (Unlocked at level 2)
Weapon skill 3 (Unlocked at level 3)
Profession skill F1 (Unlocked at level 4)
Rally(downstate) (Unlocked at level 5)
Off-hand weapon slot (Unlocked at level 7)
Weapon skill 4 (Unlocked at level 7)
Underwater Combat (Unlocked at level 8 with underwater weapon skills 1 and 2)
Personal story (Unlocked at level 10 in chapters every 10 levels)
Weapon skill 5 (Unlocked at level 10)
Utility Skill 1 (Unlocked at level 13)
Underwater skill 3 (Unlocked at level 14)
Weapon Swap (Unlocked at level 15)
As you can see, by the time one is level 15 (which is pretty fast after patch), your character isn’t really lacking much that it was pre-patch, or anything that is vital to game play or combat. Moreover, moving forward, the only big foreseeable unlocks would be utilities / elites, which have always been unlocked later on in the game.
By no means am I trying to “argue” with you or the original poster about yours or his experience (that would be stupid), I just hope to point out that the current hype about leveling really is not as bad as these forums make it out to be, but also that this second feature patch was to help systems that were implemented with the first. Granted, some systems that were introduced, I believe do lead to confusion and general disarray among new players (PoI update, for example); however, I cannot how this would effect the new player’s leveling experience, in so far as create a little confusion.
As a player with mostly 80s, it astonishes me time after time again that I am playing with other players of the same level that have a sheer disconnect from core mechanics and concepts of the game. I, for one, am glad ArenaNet is implementing steps and tutorials (because, let’s be honest, every game has one) to help these players understand the foundation of this game.
I think the important thing to understand is that you started the game, with no previous knowledge of how the game was prior to the initial rework of the trait system and leveling process, yet you said how much you were enjoying the game! This is important, because you are an example of how the first leveling rework has been fun and exciting for new players. In my opinion, the second rework was only improving on the first (ie, giving new characters items and bonus chests / stats that make them feel more powerful and give them better ways to go through content to help ease the trait nerf from the first feature patch, which is coincidentally EXACTLY what players were asking for.)
If you’re level 20 on most of your characters, then you already have most of your unlocks already. Do you mind going into detail what you don’t like about it? You said most of the stuff is blocked off, but level 24 is the final unlock and that’s your f4 skill (and not all classes even have an f4.)
Current, best way to farm linen cloth?
in Crafting
Posted by: Sparks The Rescue.5043
Sparks The Rescue.5043
Honestly, the current best way to “farm” linen is to do daily dungeon tours and just buy it. It is incredibly hard to be able to farm ~6g worth of linen in an hour, the time it takes to do ac p1/2/3 and profit 6g.
Buying it increases the overall price of it.
That’s fine for a short term solution, but if you need lots of linen you should be farming it too otherwise you are going to be hurting yourself.
I’m unsure of how much linen the OP farms /hr, but I’d go so far as to say that the price of linen could double and even triple(!)and farming dungeons would still be a better route. I just checked the TP, and it costs ~1.2g for a stack of linen. Just from doing 1 path of AC (in ~15 minutes), you’ve already netted yourself around 275 linen. Even if the price doubles (which realistically it won’t), 135 linen in 15 minutes is still a very efficient way of gathering linen.
Some Q's about patch download time
in Account & Technical Support
Sparks The Rescue.5043
Hi everyone, I have some questions about the download time of this current feature patch. For some reason, it took me an unusually long time to download this (in terms of speed, not content.) I recorded the time it took me to download from 50% to 100%. For 156MB, I downloaded at an average speed of ~0.60 kb/s to 0.65 kb/s. During this time, however, I was peaking as high as 2 MB/s and as low as ~10kb/s.
After the download was complete, I conducted a speed test and it recorded my download speed at 1.9MB/s. However, what causes such drastic speed times? It seems I was downloading at a much slower rate than what my internet speed actually is. Is there something I should look into to fix this issue or is this normal?
Thank you for your help!
Whether you support the tactic or not does not justify it to be exploitative… And as far as selling a path goes, Anet does not care in so far as you do not complain about getting ripped off by a seller that does not pay.
