Some questions about the state of the game...

Spirigo.2897

Don’t trust these forums. 90% of what’s written here doesn’t reflect the true state of the game.

1. Nothing. People that are burnt out after playing this game for too long prefer to invent various fallacies about it instead of just admitting that they played for too long and need a break.

2. Conditions are strong in sPvP and WvW roaming but you should be weary of using them if there is another condition-focused build on your team or if you’re doing a zerg event. These builds are crucial for Triple Trouble though. To be fair unless you’re into hardcore speedrunning it doesn’t matter what you run; you will find a team for any dungeon. I ran Cleric Guard for as long as I’ve been playing the game, never had a problem finding a group or completing anything.

3. Nah, met lots of nice people doing dungeons. I don’t know about hardcore community but your average pug or guild group will mostly have nice people. In general groups that lfg with “100k AP + only War, Guard, Ele FULL ZERK NO NOOBS” tend to be terrible (speaking from experience) so stay away from them.

4. Kitten – forum filter. Hambow – Generic Hammer/Bow Warrior build used in sPvP.

Also, what unusual ways of reaching lvl80 you know of and have employed?

Farewell GW2

I read your complaint that they havent “added” to professions and stopped reading. One of the chief problems with GW1 was that they continually added skills, it was a balancing nightmare and they were doing MASSIVE balance patches 5 years into the game. They aren’t going wild with additions to professions because their focus is on getting them into a good place where they don’t have huge problems.

Also, bye bye to your thread – there’s no way a mod isn’t going to lock/delete this.

I completely agree with this. GW1 ended up being completely impossible to balance which eventually lead to a massive player backlash. Guilds were making conga lines in GvG tournament matches, HA became continually filled with the very same 11111 spam builds (ok, maybe 12345678 spam builds, same difference) or lame unavoidable spike teams.

All of this was pretty much being balanced by a single person from what I understood, who got trashed every time he made a statement or did anything. Ultimately PvE speedruns became the most challenging and exciting thing you could do in the game that was renowned for its PvP, and even they were quite lame.

People need to take their nostalgia goggles off and realise that even though ultimately GW1 wasn’t as bad as people were saying at the time, it wasn’t the perfect MMO that people here make it out to be.

In a sense the same is happneing to GW2 right now. Every problem gets blown up out of proportions to no longer reflect the reality. Even this talk about 1111111 spam is pretty much nonsense. This tactic only works in EBG or EotM when you outnumber the opponent or the core of the zerg is made out of an organized WvW guild. As much as 10 man disadvantage will turn your fight from 111111 spam to something where movement, positioning and skill rotations matter.

As for PvE I don’t really see a focus in these complaints. Some complain about zergable content, others about the wurm event being impossible. There are even people who whine about Tequatl failing occasionally (fugin’ ell come an hour early for it and afk your character). So really I don’t understand these complaints except for one: Too much time is spent polishing unsuccessful content; you can’t polish a turd!

Inb4 “everything in gw2 is unsuccessful content”.

People run a build you may like in WvW right now (at least on top tier servers). It’s Zealot armor + Celestial trinkets, 0/0/2/6/6 or 0/0/6/6/2, superior sigils of life, renewal and energy. You get fairly high power, crit chance and crit damage with a benefit of extra support provided by powerful dodge roll heals.

Right now the PvE meta is zerker and for a good reason, it will give you fastest dungeon clear times if used right but will offer you zero margin of error so if you’re planning to run it – find a good PvE guild.

Never run full zerk in WvW – you will get melted in 0.00005s by everything (even ambient mobs ;] ).

For PvP it’s all about bunkering down at point, and trying to decap. There are many variations of this build but most commonly I see full cleric mace + shield/hammer with 0/0/2/6/6. Basically you knock the enemy out of the point repeatedly to decap/cap and then sit there for as long as you can. Don’t forget t yell at your team to cap while you’re at it!

Personally I’ve been running full Cleric gear 0/0/2/6/6 in every game mode for months now and have no complaints. In PvE it’s the only build that can make dungeon/fractal pugs work consistently so if you’re a PvE pugger like me try doing what I’m doing. Though seeing as you like more damage the first build I wrote about may be a better option.

Why does ArenaNet hate farming?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

They don’t hate farming specifically.

They hate everything that gives players gold that wasn’t bought with gems.

Yeah that explains why they don’t nerf dungeon exploits that players use to earn hundreds of gold in a single day lol.

What? Dungeons were nerfed with the Apr 15th patch. People now report making tons less gold in Dungeons from before.

Now re-read my previous post.

Burning builds, especially those that center around the book, are extremely powerful in PvP. When I played PvP with it, it was not uncommon for me to win 4v1 with minimal effort.

Plus this build absolutely melts those annoying zoo necros.

In WvW burning build is… Situational. If you can find loads of small skirmishes, it’s great. In zergs it can work wonders if you time your skills right but AC fire can be trouble. People these days look for more supportive Guardians that spec heavily into Healing Power for their WvW groups.

PvE… To be honest I liked exploring with it but in dungeons and fractals it was underwhelming because it’s neither here nor there in terms of damage and support. I had to swap back to Healing Power in almost every run that I started with Condi Damage.

You need to grind for ascended gear (or play REALLY LONG). It gives 5percent more statts and you need it for high lvl FOTM. There is REQUIRED grind. Just not so much.

Yes you need ascended for high level fractals. But you can still see everything from the fractals at lvl 1, and thus you don’t need Ascended to experience any content. And as you said yourself, you can get it, over time, without grinding, and thus it is not forced grind either way.

Yeah 4 years or something? :P

4 years?!

No, just no. It’s very easy to at least make 30g a day in this game by doing diverse content. That way in about 2-3 weeks you should have enough money to get all the mats for ascended gear. You can even craft the damask as you go along to save time.

That’s pretty fast for a set of (rather useless) best armor in the game.

Not full team but with about 3-4 you will win. In any case you won’t last long without bunkers.

Is there any point in killing players?

in PvP

Posted by: Spirigo.2897

Spirigo.2897

Yes, playing a bunker and just sitting on a point is very effective, but killing players is far from pointless because:

- You send the player to respawn, which prevents you and your teammate from being killed by that enemy
– You force that player to waste a bunch of time waiting for the respawn, then travelling across the map instead of sitting on a point or killing your team
– You prevent that player from knocking you off the point or shutting you down so that another person can knock you off the point
– And of course, you get 5 points too. =P

But it’s much better to tank up and Banish the player off his point. =)

That’s why this PvP creates broken builds and makes players rage so much.

Is there any point in killing players?

in PvP

Posted by: Spirigo.2897

you can’t cap a point if there’s a player opposing player on it. so … yes.

Actually you can with things like Fear, [Banish] etc. That’s what many decap builds revolve around.

Fix matchmaking please

in PvP

Spirigo.2897

yeah.. it is not working very well… I sometimes get teams they they don’t know what to do… I mean they run pass a unguarded enemy capture point and move on without even decaping it… not to mention that by the end of the game I have over 200 points and they are all under 60-80…

I do take he time to make a strategy based on our professions before the game starts and ask ppl to do simple tasks… they don’t even care… some even say that they are only there for the progression bar or to finish a daily achievement… they don’t even care if the team wins or loses as long as they get there “dodge” achievement or the “kills”, or “revives” whatever… and the PvP players are the ones how get penalized for this…

IT IS NOT RIGHT!!

Yes this is true I always see players just run past a point that’s unguarded. I try to tell people to focus on capturing points before the match starts but most don’t listen or don’t understand.

Maps in PvP here are very random and very difficult to navigate for new players and PvP itself isn’t intuitive. It takes time to realise just how little reward is given for activities that don’t involve capturing or bunkering points. Plus some maps like Skyhammer have unique and devastating mechanics that many don’t know about.

Basically you have lots of clueless (rightly so) new people pitted vs experienced people. PvP in this game is actually very simple to learn, but there has to be a tutorial.

Is the toxicness really that new?

in PvP

Posted by: Spirigo.2897

Spirigo.2897

Toxicness is occuring more because match making is bad by mixing new players with older experienced players.

This plus the fact that there is no tutorial to properly teach newcomers how Conquest works. That’s why you encounter so many people that chase after a Mesmer for 15 minutes while not caring one bit about points.

People need to be taught that PvP in GW2 translates as Player vs Point, not Player vs Player.

Is there any point in killing players?

in PvP

Posted by: Spirigo.2897

Spirigo.2897

I’m not trolling.
PvP is about point capture and sometime it does not require to kill players to achieve this and that’s perfectly fine.

It promotes passive play to much. You are better off tanking at your own points than trying to capture enemy or kill enemy to prevent them from capture. That is wrong.

You feel that tanking your own points and backcapping an opponent’s point when they’re not there is “passive play”? Why?

Because you just sit at a point and do nothing. The builds that pop up as a result of how PvP is are what most would consider lame and boring.

Stalling a point gives you so much, while trying to get it back from you gives almost nothing in comparison.

I’ve fought many good bunkers who are skillfully able to mitigate my damage. That is the very opposite of “doing nothing”. If you could explain what you mean by “doing nothing”, it would be helpful.

This is not about skill. If you killed a bunker chances are you also lost the game. Thats the point.

And if you don’t kill a bunker, you lose the game. Your point being? Two DPS classes can easily take out any bunker all things and skill being equal. Especially true after the engi’s AR nerf.

A skilless bunker will not last. A skillful bunker will last. A poor DPS will not kill a bunker. A good DPS can (depends on the build of course. Not all DPS builds are the same and neither are all bunkers. There’s a bit of rock paper scissors going on, but so what?)

You don’t even really need to kill the bunker. Just push them off point (easy with the right build in any map other than foefire mid).

My point being is that you end up with lose lose situation. Isn’t that obvious?

Bunkers get HUGE benefit from doing what they’re doing while the enemy gains minimal reward for spending a massive amount of time trying to kill them. Since 2-3 people are needed to kill a bunker semi-fast it means that bunker’s team can capture other points more easily.

Basically: If they don’t kill bunker, they lose. If they kill bunker, they also lose.

There is no rock paper scissors going on; it’s just rock.

Another problem is that the PvP here is not intuitive at all. A new player will have no idea how important these points are and what to do to capture them because there is no tutorial to teach them. This makes PvP really frustrating because you will get people who have no idea how to play with or against the meta.

Ye bunkers just give so much benefit it is ridiculous. I would make another suggestion:
1, Make kills worth 15 points each
2, When people cap a point give them an NPC which must be killed before the other team can cap that point. This stops bunkers running to a point and capping it.

It’s more constructive to layout builds and their imbalanced status than just say —- “bunkers specs are ridiculous”. That doesn’t help anybody learn anything or know what to balance. It’s already been known that decap engis, warriors, spirit rangers were an issue because they had a bunker spec that either could do good dps and/or had way too many knockbacks compared to other classes which conquest mode does favor.

Yes this is it. Those builds are a huge problem. They are only fun for the guy who plays them and they were given rise by the mechanics of this PvP where bunkering up is low risk high reward tactic.

Is there any point in killing players?

in PvP

Posted by: Spirigo.2897

Spirigo.2897

killing is important because if you don’t kill anyone then you will eventually be outnumbered and die and lose the point. killing enemies prevents outnumbered situations. outnumbered situations lose points. therefore killing prevents losing points.

Eventually. But in reality you get 2 capped and then they will just bunker a node forever. By the time you kill someone another has respawned and is back. This can continue for 4-5 minutes before you eventually win the fight and by that time it is 300-100. The other team will have 40 points per player because all they have done is delay you all game. Hard to stomp vs bunker teams because they can all res. Hard to focus anyone. If you want to kill them you probably need 5 people. If you do this then you lose the other two points and the bunker team repeats the process.

So this game is a miserable experience where the way to win is to play specs which do no damage but survive (some do both like ranger/warrior/thief). Bunker specs take way less skill and are generally more forgiving than dps specs. Yet bunker specs are inherently rewarded by the game mode and the scoring system. It is boring and it is why (imo) the most talented pvpers stick to WvW and not PvP

Lol, you can keep your opinion to yourself. There’s no point in stating something that cannot be proven. The two game types are uncomparable. Good in wvw pvp <> spvp pvp.

Every time a thread like this pops up there will always be that one guy being all “But in super high end PvP everything is fine and dandy!”

You’ve made some good points I won’t deny that but just because an elite few can enjoy this after over a year of practice doesn’t mean everything is fine. Because there are many problems. Very many.

Spirigo.2897

Hello,

After playing PvP for a bit for rewards I still don’t understand why killing enemies gives so little points while capturing points gives so much.

From what I can see just holding a point for many hours is better than killing off an enemy. So it’s actually better to bunker up to the point where enemy would need at least 2-3 of their team to take you down.

I found myself winning matches, and actually get top score without killing a thing! Crazy right? This shouldn’t happen.

To make things worse, engaging in a fight outside of points in no mans land is autoloss especially if your team comes to your aid. Everything just takes so long to kill because of downed state and by the time you killed, you would lose 2 of your points and gained some kittenty 5 points for the kill (something tiny like that).

Why? I have no reason to kill enemies now. At least in WvW there is a clear incentive to kill each other, and you will rarely see an enemy that would just run past you. In PvP any player with a brain will avoid no mans land fights like fire.

Why that is so?

I think your statement is far too blanket. Fighting clearly doesn’t make you lose otherwise no one would fight.

Fighting someone with no ability to push them off a point or kill them quickly is a waste of time, I would agree. But fighting in general is not a waste of time.

Noone fights already!

Fight = lose.

You must ignore enemy till you get to the point. Then just tank while pushing enemy off the point.

If you fight you lose. In nearly every match I played after one side shows it’s stronger (after 1 fight usually) PvP stops and capfest starts. That’s so frustrating!

Securing objectives is fine but they need to be harder to get and reward players for defending and actually fighting. Now it’s just all about sitting at a point or suicidng into enemy to buy time for your team to cap.

This is like Hero Battle in GW1 all over again but without micro…

I wonder if I’m the only one who really dislikes the way human female heavy armors look?

All of them suffer from pretty big clipping issues, or have lots of plate bits that are completely flat. It really bothers me.

For example in the heritage armor the chest piece is not connected to the leg piece, so you can actually see the inside of the texture from the resulting crack. In cult t3 your arms clip with the side plate bits.

Am I the only one who cares? Are there plate armors that don’t clip like that? Because I’m on a verge of using TMK to change my female human gurdian into a male. :p

I felt that way about some sections of these forums since I first visited them. My opinion hasn’t changed so far.

People make it sound like this game is Bad Rats of MMO world where every class except Warrior is so badly balanced that it can’t get past the starting area. In reality things are nowhere near as bad.

The WvW guild I’m in wants Guardians in every party for “stabilityprotection” and Empower. Dungeon and FotM groups want them for reflects. This shows that Guardians are useful for doing things they were designed to do and as long as it stays like this, I’m happy.

I wish the class could have a larger array of useful support options and more “funbuilds” (the latter might change with the introduction of scaling rita), I dream of the day when our Spirit Weapons become useful because I love em, but at the same time I don’t share the doom and gloom attitude that people in this thread have. Things are not that bad.

If I opened them right now I would get lvl46 gold items; some of them don’t sell for a lot. Maybe I’m wrong though, which is why I’m asking you about it now.

Basically: Should I wait to open CHAMPION LOOT BAGS till lvl80 or should I open them asap starting at my current lvl51?

Hello people,

I’m new to this game and looking for a good server to join.

I’ve made an Asura on Seafearer’s Rest the other day but the server seems completely empty.

I’m looking for a server where I’ll have a good chance of running into other people frequently, and that is stable i.e. it must be doing well in PvP and the guilds on there aren’t planning to leave.

Please post suggestions.

Thanks!

P.S.: I am looking for an English speaking server, preferably EU but actually don’t mind playing on German/French/USA if the above conditions are met.
