This issue is widespread and a lot of people are having problems with this. Almost everybody with this issue have NVIDIA cards as well…
Please don’t mistake vocal reports with correlative behavior.
LOL
it has to be Anets problem is a game file LOCALLY is corrupting at random on only a FEW computers?
logic = 0.
Take your PC’s to a specialist shop to have them tested properly with hdd regenerator and memory tests that actually include EXECUTE tests.
what are you running in the background.
nvidia needs to have a work around for this, i don’t believe it does for gw2 atm though
Under system settings, click advanced settings
click the hardware tab
click the device installation settings button
set “Never install software from windows update” and then run the uninstaller from programs and settings again.
downgrade to catalyst 12.4
as usual, people who have no idea what readyboost does are posting.
Readyboost is a session built FILE CACHE, it hasn’t got much to do with ram at all, but rather reducing the delays that mechanical hdd’s have with reading tiny files sequentially.
It doesn’t help bootup’s much at all, because it is rebuilt every startup and only caches files up to 4k in size.
Software like eboostr is better because the cache can be made permanent and improves boot and login times , eboostr works well with super fetch as well, as files hit often by superfetch are most likely to exist in the eboostr cache, and eboostr (and stuff like Corsairs SSD filter) can be used to precache stuff with an SSD, unlike ReadyBoost.
Readyboost can’t improve load times. Only the harddrive the OS is on and the physical RAM. Since Readyboost is still limited by the main HDD speed.
^only person in the thread who knows whats what!.
And indeed, readyboost is useless for startups and boot improvements because as i said, it is invalidated at every start, unlike eboostr which is permanent (choosing instead to encrypt the cached data)

it shouldn’t be 17GB.
sounds like a faulty power supply to me.
you didn’t tell us about your specs.
its part of the games optimisation.

you apply it to your local adapter, not the router.
are you sure its crashing the whole system, or it it just a black screen crash that you can only exit by forcing the task manager up by using ctrl+alt+del and pressing task manager?

set and use google dns, there are currently known cable breaks between Western Australia and Taiwan/china causing connection errors of extreme latency with isp’s that have not rerouted the issue correctly.

have you installed the East Asian and Right to left language packs? these are required for the IME to dispaly such characters correctly (under XP atleast)

Windows XP requires your non-unicode locale set to the language you want to use else this sort of thing occurs iirc.
I had a 550ti under 306.97, that did not experience the issue, and i went straight to 310.33 (skipping the .6x driver), so i assumed a gfx card or setting issue.
To be honest, not very many places actually have the issue for me to have noticed it being the driver at fault. Has nvidia been made aware?
You need to note though, a window can’t be vsync’d. No matter if it’s pretending to be full-screen or not.
Not correct, most console emulators support windowed vsync, and so do alot of games. Flash also, is typically run in a full screen window and also supports vsync.
There are a few cases where fullscreen windows will not permit vsync easily (Mixing GDI elements with Accelerated back buffers being one of them) but it can be done; its just a pain in the kitten to do it.
NT6’s compositor makes it a bit easier by utilising dwm to generate a full screen window, and vertical sync is usually not required there.
GW2 does support Vsync in windowed fullscreen, though the simple screenshots i have taken will not prove this, since they cannot demonstrate in action frame changes that well.

you can lower down the shader slide to mediuml or low. Flashing textures will be 80% gone
Nope, not in my tests
only 2 things removed the flashing, Fullscreen Window, and 30fps frame cap.
And I don’t see any confirmation its specifically a driver 310 issue, many forums assume as such, but fail to note that a major gw2 patch landed around the same time.
things to try
downgrade to catalyst 12.4
uninstall and display link driver (if you have one)
there has been crashes linked to those G35 headset drivers.

Some users have reported the driver crashing and reporting the crash to occur in the Nvidia or AMD display drivers.
These crashes have actually been traced back to being instigated in the Display Link driver, and removal of this driver (at the expense of usb graphics no longer working) to resolve the problem.
Ensure you are using the very latest version of the display link drivers at all times, as changes and fixes are made to ensure ongoing compatibility.
Its not a flaw in the driver.
Start off with deleting local.dat, this clears any bad cached data, or data that interferes the recently updated client.
set nvcp global settings to defaults.
well i’ll be kitten nice “fix” Melanis, windowed full screen definitely fixes it.
Until you choose to expand your mind and learn and understand WHY it doesn’t matter that no other games crash, and have it still being completely an issue with your systems configuration
Enjoy your crashes.
never mind, the file you need to be using is already updated if you have the latest windows updates, so it should include the necessary fixes
op, try installing the first of the 2 bulldozer patches

In some high load cases, (Cinebench for instance) it has provided an improvement equivalent to atleast an extra 600mhz overclock on Intel cpu’s.

Fruban, difference with WD’s hybrids, is they are based on the Caviar/Black drives xD
sometimes you need to fully uninstall precision, including its settings, particularly if you happened to upgrade drivers without shutting down precision first.

Well apparently i just learned you can use certain software to force APM off which resolves the stutter for that windows session
unfortunately the drive discards the APM settings every power cycle, so if you rebooted after toggling APM, that would be why it didn’t help.
WD have just announced their own Hybrid Drives, starting with a 1TB drive with 24GB of cache…… im tempted already
please, don’t post that completely false nonsense about the eye only seeing 24fps.
eyes don’t have a shutter or a frame rate, and below 40fps is simply not visibly smooth in most games.
you don’t need to overclock that far at all…..
;) 266 is actually the io rate, your ram is running at PC2-4200(533Mhz) when the double data rate is applied
i won’t disagree with your view of the mainboard though. I have long thought of VIA as barely a step up from SiS.
there already is one if you look closely.
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit (I know I am supposed to use 32-bit with less than 4GB of RAM)
There is no such rule, more ram would be better, but you won’t get the 2GB virtual address crash atleast.
Your cpu indeed is part of the problem, though you could probably get a decent overclock on that Q6600
install service pack 1.

delete local.dat
That would be far more likely, a dll hijack might have been involved from a previous malware infection.

you don’t have transparency multisampling set in your video card settings?

Kacman, what the heck >.<
you have an ATI chip, that download is specifically for Intel chips.
you need to go to the AMD downloads site and check download from there.

This issue needs to be addressed. A patch…something.
Someone suggested on another thread to do a clean install of the guy’s operating system. give me a break. It’s not a OS issue.
No, its probably not a OS issue, could be a driver issue though. Could also be a hardware issue.
It’s a GW2 issue that needs a remedy from the company who developed the game. They did a great job with this game. I am impressed . But, they also need to see to it that the buyers have a product that works.
A game will not crash a computer without help from either badly made system drivers, or a fault in the configuration of the machine.
what is the update failure message?
erm, no, the 680 was definitely released before the 690, since the 690 is 2 underclocked 670 gpu’s….
So… if it’s two underclocked 670s, wouldn’t it have come before the 680 then? Didn’t the 670 come before the 680?

a crash in d3d9.dll is either
faulty system memory
corrupt install of windows
incompatible display driver or display hardware.
since you didn’t post any information about your system, and my crystal ball is in the shop. we can’t help you further at this point.
the flash version used in guild wars 2 is embedded.
Passing memtest doesn’t put Memory in the clear though, since it doesn’t test page execution, just read, write and copy.
operating system is important to note as well.
Its either a driver bug, or a game bug.
either way, its already been reported in the game bugs section
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Flashing-Textures/first#post1149057
Then you have either a physical defect with the hard disk, or your file system is malformed.
those are previous local.dat files that have likely corrupted due to a random crash.

create a new folder on the root of the hard drive, and copy the guild wars files right into it and run them from the new location.
