The issue is in your system at some point, most likely Hardware configuration.
can’t blame the tv timing issue here, my display reports 59.97 as well and the flashing is resolved with the windowed fullscreen trick.
an issue with a PC encompasses its configuration, its physical state, and any application running on it which may intefere with the application running correctly.
So many of us are NOT having the issue that your continued disregard for causality is both illogical and completely negates any argument you attempt to make.
what amd driver are you on currently
with such a big file in use, and no available transparency towards the layout of the file contents, i would only be assuming in saying that its possible that the dat isn’t very efficient in its internal layout.
placement on disk being splintered would not help such a large file however, so maybe running the contig application on the file to defrag it wouldn’t hurt.
Ah, i see atleast part of the problem.
AMD doesn’t directly support laptops with switchable graphics, which yours has both Intel and AMD graphics chips.
Its possible the game is starting on the Intel chip, though im not totally up on how you force the laptop to use the AMD chip
i assume there is a way to create a custom profile for GW2 in CCC, and then an option to force the game to run on the high performance (6490m) chip.
post the model (dv7-####) of your laptop and i’ll download the package myself to unpack and look at
(edited by Squall Leonhart.2075)
If 12.10 is now installed, then you should not have 8.882.2.3000 as the driver version, that number was from mid-late 2011.
can you check Dxdiag or the anet log to see if this has changed?
Minimum support specifies the lowest target that the company is required to provide after sale support for.
are you downloading the mobile version of the driver?
im fairly sure HP versions of the gpu are supported with the mobile cats.
http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx#1
in any case, that lists 12.10, the 13.1 mobile package isn’t up yet.
install the very latest intel hd 2000 drivers, but apart from that, you simply cannot expect Anet to provide support for your unsupported configuration.
Your display driver is not supported, please upgrade to something released within the last 3 months or download 13.1 when it comes out in the next few hours
Sinthoras, have you tested another graphics card in your system?
all that random bugged geometry that occurs after the crash sounds so much like a faulty video card.
If the system indicates that a Time-out detection and Recovery (TDR) has occured, then this indicates that your system is operating in an instable state, whether that be some sort of bad driver installer, driver interoperability issue or a problem with the hardware or its configuration.
What i would get you to start with, is fully removing EVGA Precision and performing a custom+clean install of the nvidia drivers, choosing NOT to keep the precision preferences (this bit is important, as the app caches some of the drivers state). and then proceed to reinstall with the very latest version of precision (3.04) if you have not already got it.
Following that, would be to test other applications, such as Cinebench, Folding@Home, gpuluxmark or a game like Oblivion which tends to demonstrate weak shaders much more obviously than furmark does, being unable to reproduce the TDR in any of these applications does not necessarily mean the problem is fixed, or that the game is the cause if it does occur while playing again.
It means that some other part of the system could be running outside of its intended configuration, or that the graphics card is in a physical state where its just stable enough for most games but not GW2.
FWIW, i find that this game most likely isn’t going to demonstrate a faulty card where others applications have not, as it tends to be restricted by the CPU before the gpu really gets to work at all, so you would be better off checking things like the northbridge(IOH/x58/x79), or ICH/PCH voltages, system memory settings (system memory compatibility with your motherboard!) and test for any weakness in any overclocks.

And the game would run on the system, if there was not something else at play.
The original post defines his issue as a full system freeze.
This isn’t something USER MODE software (THE GAME) will cause by itself. It requires a helping hand from either hardware oriented software (Drivers or windows itself) or a degrading or faulty on arrival piece of hardware.
Where drivers are the direct blame, these are usually reproducible by everyone using the same drivers, with the same hardware (or hardware families).
At this time, there is no evidence supporting any idea that the latest or any recent nvidia drivers have directly caused the game to crash the system.
Now mixing these drivers in with certain pre-overclocked cards on the other hand, particularly when the card can be verified as barely stable at the factory clocks, is another matter.
Of course, there are plenty of supporting evidence showing that not all display driver crashes are the display drivers fault. Plenty of times its another driver that just happens to do something wrong with the system memory, right before the driver attempts to use it.
In any instance of a total system freeze, Most experienced pc-builders will start looking at the system ram or CPU.
But hey, its fine, continue with the wolf cryin, you might not fix the issue -ever-, but im sure someone with the same issue, will look at what i’ve said, start looking at their machine and fix their issue, either by themselves or by starting a thread at a proper PC forum.
And this is why tech support has such a high job turn around….. nobody wants to put up with dealing with customers that just don’t want to be told that they need to do some work on their own end.

How do you explain the problems folks are having with brand new systems? How do you explain the fact that the only game on these new systems that is Crashing is GW2?
Farcry 3, No problem
Mass Affect 3, No Problem
Because brand new systems are really immune to poor configuration and faulty hardware.
Wake up to yourself for goodness sake.
Your first step would be http://www.maximumpc.com/article/features/blue_screen_survival_guide
Theres a reason why Anet mostly ignores these threads and leaves them up to other -more technically oriented users- Because there isn’t much THEY can do, when YOU aren’t willing to take on the job of maintaining your machine.

So you are saying, that logging into YOUR account onto the very SAME system, your trading post does not work, but hers does?
delete local.dat to reset gfx settings.

Hardware issue is actually reported from the OS itself.
The hard drive may have degraded beyond SMART allowances for example.
Physical defects in the hardware or Degrading hardware(rarely), poor system configuration(Most of the time).
And you can’t say you get no problems, because AMD has that issue with lines on surfaces that still isn’t fixed in 13.1.
Catalyst 13.1 will be out later (if its not already) which includes all the fixes from 12.11 beta.
including some nice performance improvements for GW2

This issue is widespread and a lot of people are having problems with this. Almost everybody with this issue have NVIDIA cards as well…
Please don’t mistake vocal reports with correlative behavior.
If you search for crashing errors on the forum, the vast majority of issues I’ve seen have been with nvidia cards. It’s not like he’s pulling it out of his butt.
I opened a support ticket, and tech support gave me a laundry list of things to do before they could help (I think they want me to download at least three different programs to run tests on my computer).
This is ridiculous.
20% more people own nvidia hardware, so of course the number would appear higher.
in reality, the issue rates are exactly the same.
Lots of people with nvidia are playing the game just dandy, lots of AMD people are playing the game just dandy.
Small vocal groups on both sides with physical hardware faults or poor system configurations are having issues.
THAT’S REALITY.
Its certainly a mac specific problem.
Yup, only because of the removal of snow and tree’s (and that annoying fog)

and what about GPU temps
I tried the Windowed Fullscreen mode and it did not fix the problem.
This problem showed up sometime after the second to last Nvidia driver patch. Although, in that time there were several game patches as well. Probably a lot more then several.
For me usually happens on roots. For example, the large root structures near the Arah dungeon that hold up the Pact defense wall. They’re bleach white or flash to white when I look directly at or pan my camera.
Odd, are you on a 120hz display at all?
Alot of people have this totally misplaced idea that a spinning drive is likely to wear down more
this is not the case. The drives these days are built using fluid bearing, so theres almost no friction, and little potential of a spindle seizing.
Rather, you get more wear from spinning down because the motor has to BRAKE or inverse to stop the spindle.
LOL
it has to be Anets problem is a game file LOCALLY is corrupting at random on only a FEW computers?
logic = 0.
Take your PC’s to a specialist shop to have them tested properly with hdd regenerator and memory tests that actually include EXECUTE tests.
Thank you, thank you for coming into the TECH SUPPORT forum slinging insults. There are a bunch of frustrated people in here who have tried everything the ANET techs have had them try, and they are still having these issues. LOOK at all the threads on the front page about this issue, but you are right I have 0 logic, you have no idea about my buddies comp, set-up, or situation, yet you come in here slinging insults. Please just stay away from people that are trying to receive help.
I know, because im educated. You assume, because of shear ignorance.

no, the masses were just fine blaming anet for the problem.

post your system information.
the launcher is flash based, so an old driver can cause this.
what sort of crashing/freezing. theres alot of different ways this game can crash/freeze, some of them being a full system crash (and thus being a weakness in the actual hardware at some point) or a soft crash that just freezes the game itself.
Its not the 670 thats holding back the reflections, really, its not.
tell us about your computer, and we’ll tell you.
its mostly Heavy amounts of geometry and fog levels, which totally saturate the cpu with DirectX calls.
I can say for sure, that not only are a great number of XAOC using fly hacks, tp hacks, TIMER HACKS (yes, i saw several of your guys spamming healing skills after getting hp chipped down) but they are also running groups of patrol bots.
utilising the game’s available mechanics to obstruct an enemy is what i would consider legitimate game play.
Nvidia has a higher user base then AMD, so of course its going to seem like nvidia has more issues.
However none of them are actually NVIDIA ISSUES except for that white flashing texture/normal map issue that occurs in some places.
I’ve had this game across 3 different nvidia gpu’s now, 275 – accidentally killed it myself, 550ti – retired to its box, and my current 680, running it like a champ
its not the gpu, it can happen on both nvidia and amd
its just some not very optimised resource loading.
I would like to teamviewer with anyone experiencing this repair failure, so that i can capture file system behaviour and attempt to resolve it.
anyone interested in working with me can pm me, and hopefully we can move towards resolving the issue for all.
For those who have found switching to a different video card ahs helped…. well…… i think that makes the issue pretty much obvious – the video card is unstable, or something is making the driver misbehave (like system settings)

or maybe the slot and fingers on the card need cleaning with isopropyl.
do you have the latest Intel IRSTe drivers installed?
SSD’s do not have any notion of the term fragmentation, all writes to ssd nand is to random banks and not continuous/sequential in order to maintain a consistent amount of wear across the entire drive.
A drive that is failing to Trim on the other hand, might exhibit these behaviors, you need the IRSTe driver and the system set to AHCI for trim to be enabled on SATA6 devices.
(edited by Squall Leonhart.2075)
run the game with windows 7 compatibility
Mortalis, well then that implies nvidia already had the work around needed for it
.
indeed, the individual scores for wei are useless
the actual winsat data on the other hand is pretty useful.
@Haelis, i wouldn’t use an actual SSD as a boot drive, what with having to change a bunch of stuff to protect the ssd’s life span (browser cache n stuff).
I’d definitely configure them as large permanent file caches though, or i’d just start saving for one of Western digital’s Caviar black based hybrids
Well, thats your problem then. turning compositor off disables a bunch of hardware acceleration and vsync features.
And none of what you just said has anything to do with knowing what readyboost is or what it does :p
Don’t take it too personally though, Microsoft support doesn’t have much of an idea either and the clowns at neowin still claim its useless with large amounts of ram. (which is only a valid claim if the data in the ready boost cache is already cached by super fetch and exists in RAM).
Most benchmarks claiming boot improvements are can be completely disregarded, the readyboost cache is not hit at all prior to login, and only to recreate it from scratch – which it does every boot :|.
For a game like GW2, where all the files are loaded from a single binary, it won’t offer any improvement. (Actually, if i remember rightly, its not just that it only caches 4k files, it only caches 4k’s worth of pointers towards the file’s contents)
ReadyBoost provides the most significant performance improvement under the following circumstances:
The computer has a slow hard disk drive. Computers with a primary hard disk Windows Experience Index (WEI) subscore lower than 4.0 will see the most significant improvements.
The flash storage provides fast, random, non-sequential reads. Sequential read speed is less important.
The flash storage is connected by a fast bus. Typically, USB memory card readers are not sufficiently fast. However, connecting flash memory to an internal memory card reader might provide sufficient performance.
My hdd pulls 5.9, which is the max reported for Mechanical drives (but the winsat test itself indicates the score is closer to 6.5)
and even i see improvements when eboostr holds cached data for startup apps, dotnet apps (which are still the slowest to load).

well, AVG is junk after all…..
You know BWE players were advised to clear out the existing data right.
Do NOT install games to the desktop
and do NOT run the gw2.exe from the desktop
copy both the gw2.exe and gw2.dat into their own folder under C:\(Gw2 for instance) and run from there.
