You’re probably suffering from the same high latency issues everyone else is, caused by significant external link issues that are currently being investigated.
This belongs in mac beta tech support
:| you need to step away from the computer and take a breather.
so many issues with 8 where drivers are concerned,
im surprised you don’t get the black screen at startup.
prebuilts are built from cheap components, the usual higher cost of a home build is usually from picking higher quality parts. often its the build quality of the power supply that makes a significant difference before adding anything like gpu’s.
try opendns, it seems to provide the least routing issues at this time.
it seems the intel chipset/inf software causes issues on windows 8 with the nvidia drivers.
don’t install them.
deleting local.dat will fix this.
generate and upload a dmp file.
its your computer.
with that out of the way…..
large patches do tend to have a few quirks that only deleting local.dat seems to cure.
would be nice to see a dmp file from the crash though, so i can see and rule out any applications that could be causing that c0000005 access violation error.
cute response.. the point is it is the downloader that does it.
The only time the computer freezes is when the downloader goes up after it download runs a bit
I have burn tested the memory for 8 hours – tested good
Turned off windows firewall and all services and programs that are not windows
All drivers are up to date, BIOS is up to date
All software is up to date cept GW2 of course
GW2 is in its own folder not in Program Files
I have uninstalled and tried to re-install but same downloader problems
I have ran the repair
Core temperatures are never over 35 degrees
Vid card temps never over 55 degrees
burned the memory?
so, basically just copied and read a bunch of random crap that wouldn’t really display errors in the first place.
run OCCT, Prime95 and FAH at the same time, then get back to me.
system freezes generally occur when memory is executed, which none of the tests actually do…..
you might need to update your Intel or AMD sata drivers, to fix a ODD corruption issue.
Occlusion Culling means that anything not visible from the players point of view is not rendered.
unfortunately in its current form, all geometry on screen is determined to be culled by the cpu which adds a kitten load of processing that could be better used elsewhere.
This is why in some cases having environment set to high can destroy your framerate.
i don’t even know where to start…… that and anything i could come up with would be insulting to a high degree =_=
get your computer serviced and then get back to us.
that specific error indicates a dependency configuration issue…. such as dropping missing MSVC files into the game folder instead of properly installing the entire package.

Having the same issues, sitting on an i5 3670k @ 3.40 GHz, and a GTX 670 with a butt ton of RAM.
Managing a clean 20 FPS in Lion’s Arch, turning absolutely cripples the FPS to 1.
Have tried tweaking every setting in both Nvidia control panel and GW2. Task Manager has nothing consuming any CPU power besides GW2 at about 40% or so.
Lions Arche is typical 40-60fps
Lions arch with a bunch of extra stupid looking tree’s and snow particles + fog density… well, there’s your 20fps.
turn environment down to low and reflections to off or medium. that should get you to a somewhat smooth 30-35fps.
This game needs more control over particle density and geometry lod
I’m not to sure how i got it but i just clicked update on the driver itself. I posted up a picture of how it looks. that rock is not supposed to be there.
ugh…. windows update drivers
big no no.
install root security updates
Same old here.
Works perfect during the day. Now in the evening, it’s back to lag-mayhem, with 10-30 seconds of lag.
Anet, do you have any tools to check what’s causing this for us that experience this?
This all started with the introduction of “The lost shores”.
Sounds like you are on an ADSL RIM, that happens to be congested.
I think you need to read the thread more Chase.
Bots won’t cause your client to disconnect.
heavy packet loss on the other hand…..
great job at posting an already suggested (and confirmed in some cases) fix, just so you can claim to be the saviour.
turn environment down to low and reflections off or environment only while in lions arch.
this event added a bunch of tree’s and snow that completely kitten the cpu.
Core Parking Fix - Can someone confirm

its not really necessary, when you hit restore power profile defaults it resets the parking changes as well.
the admin fix is a symptom of running windows 8
upgrade to windows 7
K.
while you’re having issues with high quality, i’ll be running SP1 without any audio issues on high quality.
its because you changed the ui size. For some god known reason, the ui scaling completely ruins the character set.
chkdsk the affected drive to clear up any corrupt pte’s and indices then delete the affected folder and start the client again to recreate the local profile data.
Crash Fix for Windows XP and Vista Players!

Running out of Virtual Address space will crash the application, not the operating system.
On the other hand, Where Windows XP is concerned, a bug exists where the OS does not determine the required page pool sizes at startup correctly which would cause BSODS when the system runs out of these pools. 8E pool header corrupt or otherwise are a good indication of this being the case.
use open or google dns

This game uses UDP to reduce latency, you should get your internet connection checked or disable game mode in your isp settings so that a interweaved profile is used.
report them, stalking is covered in the TOS.
run the -repair command again.
Well yes, that would be because you are locking the display device with the game and then attempt to use another hardware accelerated application (Skype) at the same time.
updated video drivers?
lock next to the icon means the file has custom access permissions
actually i looked into that
the lock means the file is not shared but exists within a shared folder.
APU’s are inferior to similarly specced cpu’s in most tests.
amd needs to stop this stupid experiment
figure out why its freezing would be a start.
run the client with the -repair command, your game dat contains invalid data.
I’m gunna say it where Anet won’t.
This game will never operate properly on a 32bit operating system. There is just too many resources on screen at some points of the game for a 2GB address limit to cope with.
Blaming Nvidia is a copout, its got nothing to do with nvidia. Nvidia actually tends to use less virtual address space than ati’s drivers (differences in texture handling).
turn your settings right down
delete local.dat
upgrade to a 64bit operating system based on Vista or 7.

OpenGL would make things slower, its even worse at multithreading.
Eleia, your cpu is bottlenecking you.
it means you have operating system file corruption and would probably be better off doing a full reinstall of windows.
Its looking to me like there is a DNS issue in the USA atm, as im getting higher latency via google dns than i am via local and opendns
Let me make it clearer to you then,
If the problem was at Anets end, you would be seeing major lag even with Battleping, because you would still end up being connected to their network in the end.
As for your question, External Links are often high bandwidth fiber (or less often, copper) provided as whole sale for any ISP wishing to use them.
Maintenance by one provider can at times cause significant detours to the WAN route between your computer and the content host you are connecting to.
A major problem is the use of DNS Injection to maliciously pollute the dns pool and cause excessive rerouting.
