He has a valid point about dodging. Just dodge out of the Caltrops and then kite. That is how you beat a condition thief.
I can’t always dodge out of the caltrops. You can’t leave point sometimes in tourneys where the game is close, and if I dodge out of caltrops that’s one dodge used to just avoid a static Aoe, that’s doesn’t even count trying to dodge the thieves attacks. I have to save my dodges for dodging attacks that are needed, not necessarily dodging just to move, as I don’t get Feline Grace with my class ^^ it doesn’t matter if I get out of the caltrops that’s not even half of the fight, it’s putting enough damage on a constantly evading (spamming DB, then dodges) thief to down him while I’m taking serious bleed damage. If I dodge out of caltrops, then how am I going to continuously dodge cloak and dagger like suggested here, or dodge Treb while fighting if I need to. It’s not just as simple as dodge out of his caltrops otherwise I would not have posted here. Fighting the thief and actually having a chance to down him while constantly evading and stealthing is the problem, that is why I came to the thief forums to ask for help instead of just crying to the SPVP forums stating nerf this. I want to improve my gameplay so I’m seeking information.
Thief is best at neglecting that point.. only eles and guardians speced for condition removals can stand in point and survive. If you dont have ranged weapeon and arent at least 1 of those 2 classes…. you wont win fight on point vs calltrops thief. Get off point and shoot him.(its smart to take ranged weapeon at least in 1 weapeon pair you know…

For some champions and simple mobs why not… for dungeon bosses unless you can tell each and every attack its not possible

If your playstyle of conditions thief conssts only of calltrops im sorry, you arent valid to post here.
Basicly 3 ways to beat them:
1. Dont let them in melee range or to hit CnD This will cut their damage byt roughtly 70%. You still have to have at least decent ranged way to deal damage.
2. Conditions. Those types of thieves dont realy carry condition removal. they remove conditions in stealth. If you can apply him conditions, and get out of danger zone not letting him stealth from you, he will eat all of condition damage withouth way to migtate it.
3.CC this type of thieves ussualy carry 1 stunbreak(roll for innitiative most of time).
But he also uses it to refill innitiative. If he does that, strike him the second you can. He has no stunbreak for next 48seconds(if he traited it along with calltrops). Hard cc counters him well.
As for you who uses 2 melee weapeon sets, i would advise not to get involved fighting calltrops thief on point. Off point he is easier dodged, you dont need to do any objective in calltrops so he wont be able to kite you around it.
Trying to chase such thief away off point withouth letting it be nulified, is basicly suicide.

Its about equal burst but you are forgeting some things. Mesmer has a portal. Time warp for teamfights. His burst is AoE scale. His burst is possible more often then is thiefs.

Does this have to mean i play 1 class or sth ? I also play guardian/ele/mesmer/necro, and i know- Mesmer brings same burst as thief, more predictable but same burst, and way much more team utlity. Simple as it is, utility/burst or cooldowns(availability of it) have to get longer. And im not flaming like some rage kid, im giving true arguments. While I agree that thieves currently feel OP (at least in comparison to other primary melee classes), the point of this thread is to figure out why/how Warriors are UP in PvP, and how to fix it, rather than getting into a nerf/no-nerf discussion about Thieves.
I’m OK with Thieves having higher burst damage and mobility than warriors, but their numerous stealth options really do make them far more survivable in PvP. Survivability isn’t just about HP bars, it can also be a function of how hard you are to hit consistently, and how often you can even be targeted. As it stands, a reasonably-well-played thief is far more survivable than a reasonably well-played warrior, and because thieves have greater mobility, greater damage, greater breadth of utility, the idea that they ALSO have greater survivability than a warrior makes a warrior feel like they have no role in combat at all that can’t be better served by a thief.
Nerfing thieves won’t fix warrior underpoweredness. What we need is a buff to warrior’s toughness/survivability to allow them to survive for longer not only against thief bursts, but all those high-damage situations that the developers seem to want us to be able to last in, but that we currently cannot.
To me, no.
We’ll end to a Guardian clone, which is another plague into the GW2 PvP.
The point is that there is no real downside to pick a thief instead of a warrior in tPvP. All pros, no cons.
If they really had worse survivability, than a warrior probably had his place like a sturdier and a bit slower roamer, but it isn’t the case.Or probably it is the whole class design combined with a single game mode that makes warriors worthless and there is no real fix for this.
To be honest warrior is a perfect addition to team as a 2nd roamer coupled with thief. Most people are unburstable 100%>0%
Warrior goes in first and then thief jumps weakened target.
Its not a good role though, most classes with builds suited for it can do that.
The problem of most warriors is easily telegraphed moves. All of their moves got seriously diffrent and quite long i would say animations.
Also, warrior is best at nuthing well balanced in all situations class. However meta atm is leaning towards extremes. Unkillable bunkers insanely glass cannons, best conditions, and so on, warrior is in a middle of that, he does not reach either extreme. But its meta’s problem not warriors. And to people who say warriors got no escape try greatsword 5 greatsword whirlwind too, it can give you 2000+ range all 2gether, while you can have basicly permanent swiftness uptime.

Hello, just 10 minutes ago, during paid touraments my game froze. Screen froze, but the music would continue playing. I could not play ofcourse and had to close gw2 via alt+f4. By the time i came back other team was allready 200 points ahead playing 4v5.
It was not my internet or pc problem, as ts kept working perfectly along with other programs. Would like this to be looked upon.
Anyone of you knows if is possible to use this skin on pvp items?

You always hear people say a counter to stealth is aoe
Those people are, and have always been, wrong. AE isn’t a good counter to stealth, and people only say it because they’ve heard others say it, not because they’ve actually implemented the idea and found it effective.
At best, AE is a better counter to stealth than standing around doing nothing, which is what a lot of people do when confronted with it.
Well its best counter, most people have access to, personaly cluster bombing the hell out of whole area around me(lately running heavy innitiative regen build) is pretty easy to make other thieves run the hell away or down them. Or just give them a handicap at starting the encounter not full HP.
My personal opinion for this buff, is that, trait was useless as we had swiftness on dodge, or swiftness from ally making the trait useless. Also other classes signets incrased to 25%. Maybe their reasoning is if we made others faster, lets give thief way to be faster too.

Ricochet is just lol now instead of a face palm, so that’s an improvement I guess.
VERY interesting choice in the stealth escape, perhaps to make up for some of the extra speed buffs tossed out to all the other classes.If you don’t run Signet of Shadows, you’re a clown.
Signet of shadows isnt a mandatory utility. After we wont be able to swap our utilitys i imagine most thieves will run. Shadow refuge, Shadowstep, Assasins signet(thats my bet on this one).
Up till now when i was in premade team, i got my swiftness up from teammates who have access to it not wasting utility slot.
Anyways im happy with thief changes, nuthing major but nuthing bad too.
I tested Fleed shadow myself, btw. It is particulary buged or on intention caped at 33% when out of combat. In combat it adds 50% movespeed yet out of combat its same old 33% that swiftness was giving.

Ok this is data about thief stomping warrior with stealth:
Warrior hit me 3 times interrupted>hit me 4 more times before i finished him withouth stealth. Average hit was 1400 damage.
Lets count…. 7 hits 1400 dmg + interupt with around 2k damage… thats …basicaly 12k damage i took before i stomped warrior. With thieves 14k hp tell me please how we dont need stealth to stomp… This was test with friend and he let me take him down from 100% to 0% withouth doing damage. If it was actual combat i would be sureless less then 12k hp. I could not possible stomp glass cannon warrior at all. He would always with with vengeance… always. Tell me now how stealth stomp is unfair now? Withouth it thieves have no chance to stomp another glass cannon at all. Only option is shadowstep stomp, which is our only stunbreak and on 50 second cd.
i dont think the meta is healthy yet, but it;s getting there. it’s slightly less frustrating than it was 2 months ago. you can only push control point play so far. what we need is team DM. that should have been out first because the meta would have been a lot more exciting from the start.
boring stuff: guard bunks still top. eles are wrecking with ridiculous mobility, burst and survivability. roamer attrition/BS thieves. mesmers are just ok now.
bad stuff: necros, warriors and rangers are still bottom of the barrel (not necessarily useless, but UP in current meta for sure)
interesting stuff: necros are actually kinda good.
anyway, in the latest interview, Mr. Sharp seemed to have accepted the bunker as a legit role. i dont think bunkers are going away. and they shouldnt necessarily. if both stability and knockbacks were nerfed together, i think there’d be a lot less derping around on single points. but then we’d just be seeing more roamers >.<

Mesmers can also solo lord with invis… as can engineers with certain builds…. as can eles with RTL if they know where to use it. Door needs a fix fast though.

Cast 4s fear while stealthed -> mash buttons in a random order while under quickness -> win.Probably you need some extra heartseeker, but it doesn’t matters.
Just imagine stolen fear being used on another thief. Balanced, uh?
I as thief carry as much stunbreaks survivals as no other class bothers to take tbh, and if he had fear ready, he did his preparations, Making it instant cast would ruin it. Right now it can be used steal from necro. Wait 45 seconds> start casting fear>steal again and fear all tagets around yours. You can do it each 90 seconds but thats guaranteed fear around my target.
Anyways as a thief i got 4 skills ussable while under cc/fear to save my kitten
1.Shadowstep
2.Swords infiltrators strike comeback move
3.Steal(im still cced but i changed my location giving some enemies a headache).
4.Blinding powder(invisibility which can be used when cc’ed)
If he cought me off withouth having at least 2/4 ready ill die accepting i was not prepared for a fight. And yes that fear is realy decent skill.

Dagger storm>gain stability 8 seconds>corrupt boon>8 second stability>fear>elite ruined you run in fear. You know what thieves said when in our forum? Deal with it, we all got some counters like Lich form or others are countered by moa of mesmer.
Going past doors is a bug and it should be addresed though. Soloing lord isnt a big deal if door is opened you should expect it.
Yes utility in weapeons does make us intresting indeed. The innitiative management is most important thing for a good thief, in between damage and utility. Since cuz some of our damage comes from our utility. Stealth, blinds, gives us openings to run or attack anew with element of surprise. We do not need to pack all of it in utilitys.
It has some weakness too though. Since thief is ussualy more reliable on 1 type of attack (physical burst, bleeds and so on) we are ussualy countered harder by specific builds(bunkers, condition necros and so on).

The animation-thing … it is like the people saying Moa can easily be countered/dodged, which is imho not true; it is highly situational. And thieves DO steal fear (at least I do meet thieves a lot that do it, not to mention I do it myself). And necro’s are (rightfully) being focused (which is ok).And Reapers Protection … seriously; it is a trait, why bring that up?
Stolen fear strikes me as incredibly annoying if you are pugging and being chain-feared, but that is about it imho.
That reapers protection was just to show that necros have longer fears then only said 1 second fear.+50% trait which makes it 3 seconds too.
Anyways as a thief myself i can tell that animation from other ones, allready unless its an asura.(small nasty things with barely notiable animations).
As i mentioned above culprit is not the stolen 3 second fear. Its that our power line has + condition duration in it. A lot of thieves take 10-30 points in it, boosting that fear up to 4 seconds.
3 seconds fear is reasonable in my opinion, and it has some conditions to be available too to suceed.
It was my answer to Nerva’s saying they should get 1 second fear. yes 1 second fear with 1 second cast time, how much of a win … rly.
You know you epidemic works well with corrupt boon, after its on him just spread it. Now whole his team needs to use a condition removal or be kittened. Isnt that awsome ?
That is very gimmicky tactic, and well maybe classes i play the most dont have this problem as much as others. My thief, full bunker guardian with staff, trap ranger, and condition necro just does not have this problem.
However this tactic ruins warriors badly, also mesmers get pretty kittened by it, as they cant land shatters and even if they do 3300 armor ussualy survives the burst no probem.
However that is only good non stealth based build, calltrops is our only viable way to force you of point. If we put all our utilitys to survive forcing you out of point, it is expected it would require a certain build to counter it.
Gw2 is like rock paper scisors Bunkers>Burst>conditions>bunkers>…
Since thief cannot build a reliable bunker our only way is to anti bunker your point.
Camera angle is now adjusted to person using treb… if you use asura ofcourse you will see less from top of your head, then lets say Norn. Why should a small class have all advantages withouth any disadvantages while norn or charr is disandvantegous thanks to his size.
Reaper’s Protection 2 second passive fear, can be made into 3 seconds with + cond duration and so on, as your passive trait. Maybe thats what we steal ?
With master of terror + necromancers runes + condition duration you can have 4 second fear too, oh wait you didnt know that.
Main weakness of this build…. crap out of point… he has no fighting capabiliy of point at all as he cannot force you to stay in his calltrops. Just let him nulify that point and shoot the kitten out of him outside of point. He has 12-13k hp pool and almost no healing if he does not hit someone.
try staff+ scepter dagger + wells… in utility…. you can cast some AoE non stop all of the time.
Its not 4 seconds kitten lol … its 3 seconds. but thieves got + condition duration on our trait lines too you know. Its also on power line so a lot of thieves got a lot of points in it. Thats what makes it OP.
The only thing that should be done, is that it should not scale with condition duration maybe, thats it.
Pretty much true, i myself dont get cought that often in some insta gib combo as a thief, however, it does not mean other classes dont. As i take some points in shadow arts i still have stealth with blind on 25% hp helping me to survive instagibs or such things as mesmers shatters, passivly, just like warriors endure pain and such.
Anyways its not about that. Its just that mesmers just as thiefs got access to instagib combo on other glass cannons.
You can hit flanking strike with some help, like using steal before second hit, or using signet of infiltration, movement helps to land it too a lil, if innitiatial strike didnt sent you flying to the side.
Thief does not have everything… but the necro fear issue isnt anything to whine about…. it has quite some conditions to work you know:
1. Steal is not on cooldown(45 seconds coooldown)
2.You must steal from necro(in most battles necros keep far side or in forest of nifhel sit on ledges making that imposible(unless im on ledge or im going to bother shadowsteping just for fear))
3.1 second cast time
4. Obvious animation(thief raises hand in air for 1 second)(its the only unique animation for thief, can be instantly told what it is)
Basically what FuVirus wants, is for everyone to sit still , not being able to do anything, while he one shots them with the most OP combo in the game so that he can think that he is a god at this game.

You should see glass shatter mesmers …. if i get cought in combo im pretty much 1 shot on my thief.

And yes, no class should be able to solo the lords in such a short time.
…. Thieves are much slower at killing lord then are warriors and some other classes, just that we can skip lords guards.
It’s actually almost 4 seconds if i remember right. 3.75 or something.
Add it to the list of things that need to be nerfed, along with 4 second guardian stolen daze, and steal’s mug damage, kthnx.

Here’s one for the thieves though:
Rank your favourite stolen abilities.Don’t worry about x being better than y in z situation, just rank the ones that have the most effect most of the time.
Nr1. Tuft from thief(extra invis on demand, for extra backstab or unexpected runaway)
Nr2.Necro fear(awsome to do some damage while they run, or fear bunker of point)
Nr3. Guardian mace crack… 4 second daze is amazing counter to anything, dps the kitten out of target while hes dazed)
Nr4. Elemenalists chill (long chill messes up a lot of classes if applied at right time)
Nr5. Mesmers ectoplasm(all boons for 10 seconds(1 stack of them))
Nr6. Rangers plant tree skill( AoE condition removal + regeneration)
Nr7. Engineers trow gunk (1 random condition each second + chaos armor or confusions depending on finisher we do while inside it)
Nr8. Warriors axe spin (… kind of useless since any smart person will dps the kitten out of me while im using it. Stealing this item versus melee heavy team will ruin your own day. The recent fix beeing able to cancel it made it a lil better though)
That would be my personal list
3 sec fear is still longer than any Necro fear, even with traits, runes, and + cond duration.
it makes no sense for them to steal something that wasn’t there to begin with.
Thief steals daze from guardian too, or ethereal field from engineer. Maybe he is smart enough to use items, in the way the previous owner wasnt capable of doing ? Like adding spice of thief skills to it ?
Look the thing is deadly arts line of thief has +condition duration in it. most thiefs pick at least 15 points in it. meaning that fear as condition gets a considerate buff. If it wasnt for many thiefs picking that trait line it would be quite weaker.
And necros got fear from traits for 2 seconds boosted to 3 seconds with extra traits if im right. Thats exactly what thief steals.

I agree with you Stin but I was mostly talking about WvW.. sPvP is a total difrent matter.. I run a bleed build there, rather than crit build like in WvW. Cuz I got more awerness where everyone is..
But my point stands, any good Ele/Mesmer can kill a good Thief in WvW.. unless thief just runs away.
Pretty much true that good ele kills thiefs pretty much always, also most mesmers, but with mesmers we do have a greater chance as we can stealth from illiusions and such allowing greater survival.
improvisation works in pve…
stealing recharges all skills of ONE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! type. venoms, signets, traps, tricks, decceptions.this means that if you have a full signet build… lets say:
signet of malice,
signet of shadows,
signet of agillity,
infiltrator’s signet
and they are all on cooldown, you have a 20% chance to reset them all if you steal.you could also use a different utillity settup lets say:
signet of malice(signet),
scorpion wire(trick),
ambush(trap),
shadow refuge(deception).
now there is a 80% chance that one of these skills will reset if you steal.if you use the last example and add basilisk venom as your elite there is a 100% chance one of those 5 skills is going to reset if you steal.
hope this made it more clear. this is the behavour in pve i dont know if its any different in pvp.
And it has a chance to do absolutely nothing.
20% Chance to reset Venoms? (Nope, next one!)
20% Chance to reset Deceptions? (Nope, didn’t proc, next one!)
20% Chance to reset Traps? (LOL Nope, didn’t proc, try again!)
20% Chance to reset Signets… (AND ITS OUT OF THE PARK, NONE OF EM PROCCED, TRY AGAIN NEXT TIME SUCKA!)
You forgot tricks, haste,roll for innitiative and such. If you play realy mixed build you will have 100% chance to recharge something…. but there is chance that lets say 2/5 your abilites arent even on CD as you mostly start battles with steal. or use it early battle most of time.
Yes that build may be powerfull in WvW but it does not work in Spvp at that level at all.
Snare/chill/criple forces us to use heal/utility stealth, as we cant stealth of weapeon.
That weapeon set has weak gap closer HS which is also ruined by snare/chill/criple.
That build is very strong against classes with pets/illiusions/adds, as he can additionaly stealth of them, also NPC’s in WvW giving it additional strenght. It does not have such strenght in Spvp.
Conditions…. well they are basicaly useless against that type of thief. He is weak however to cc and another burst, expecialy ranged one that he cant near to go invis.
The whole builds damage output too is on stealth attack. If you dont allow him to stealth he will not have his damage output even at 50% strenght.
Do any of the thief traits function according to their description? Here is a list of traits I have found do not work at all. I am unsure how many are not completely broken and are are simply functioning improperly.
Potent poison – does not increase poison duration at all
Improvisation – does not reset any skill
Master of deception – does not decrease stealth recharge
Meld with shadows – does not increase stealth by 1 second
The last trait I’m going to list works but is worthless.
Hard to catch – sure you warp away but you stay stunned and they can just run or jump right back on to you, because you stay stunned

There are more thieves as it scores more points easy as that. You travel faster and score more points, since people dont bother with defencive or counter play to bursts in Spvp, you end up killing more then other classes with less burst. That is it. Ability to score more points leads to it beeing played more.
Its balance is pretty close to perfect in Tpvp and paid toureys now, some things could be nerfed, some need a buff and some fixes, but that actualy will not change thief to beeing low burst no runaway class.
and the big amount of leaps,ranged classes are a little….well i think u already know
There should not be just ranged classes or just melee ones…. you do have weapeon swap dont you, ,maybe back a melee weapeon in 2nd slot.
You are some paranoid idiot rly, i have 1000+ hours of pve/pvp WvW gameplay and i have not seen a hacker yet. Yet you by such proclamations and giving directions where to go and so on which might spread such hacks.
You should proly think that, you have some problems posting month + old videos and claiming hacking works. If you realy want to help go send a tickt with way to hack and so on for them to fix it. Yet you come to forums and whine here like some rage kid, not helping the situation a tiny bit.
Which is (roughly) the same amount that protection mitigates. A defensive boon that (roughly) mimics having an additional 1k toughness. There is no offensive boon in the game that does anything comparable.
Toughness should be changed to offer more mitigation, and protection should be reduced – not extreme changes, maybe 8-10% more mitigation for toughness, and cut protection roughly in half. It’s silly that the ability to truly Bunker is limited to classes who have constant access to a defensive boons.

Since Armor does not mitigate condition damage,and Might is allowed to be stacked in intensity,Protection is essential.
Might can give at best 875 attack + condition damage. Stacking 25 mights beeing alone if you arent a warrior is next to imposible.
Protection is a single skill, stackable few times easier. I actualy think they should reduce protection to 25% and incrase toughness effects by some 5%
without thoughness amulet/jewel/runes, you would get hit with backstab for +-11k, you got hit for 7k, thats 36% dmg reduction, its more then protection buff, also it stacks together, so you can get almost 70% dmg reduction if im right… what more you want? problem is obviously in thief, not in thoughness…

X ammount of toughness reduce damage by 50%
Xpower increases damage by 100%
Once 100%+100% damage is reduced by 50% its again just same old 100%
However thief invest also into critical damage and precision
lets say 50% crit dmg and 50% crit rate adds 100% attack 50% average damage on hit.
Meaning Toughness alone does not counter burst you also need 50% more health to counter that burst tottaly.
Healing and regeneration does not help against burst at all, its a long term defence not a short term.
In conclusion toughness is counter to power.
Berserkers amulet gives also crit dmg + precision. Your healing does not lower or help against burst, nor it does add any migtation. You will not survive a full out burst accordingly, unless you get some migtation or more defencive stats.
The Spvp has its own gear with best ammunt of stats available from start. You do not need to be level 80 and your professions do not matter at all. Vendors sells all available types of gear. Only diffrence is the way your armor/weapon looks
Arenas are of lowest priority as was said in talk with John.
You can allready do duels asking for player to go empty room and 1on1 him there, you cannot spectate/matchmake at any way now, so it is main priority.
1on1 dueling is not main nor it should be.
And yes builds countering builds is allright.
Just make build that counters most of other buids possible.
TTK is very ok i think, the only fast TTK is glass cannon VS glass cannon or 2v1 when 1 of attackers is burst. The average fight for me as a thief is very wide ranged, some backstabs or othr types of burst gives oponents 2-3 seconds sometimes bow fights takes to half a minute, or thief vs thief to first mistake one of us makes.
