I would add the ability to turn off the ground animation of sunrise/twilight
To all the posters that say game isnt functioning as intended because he says to run dungeons, I ask you to think about this for a minute.
Max level gear (exotics, not counting backs/rings atm)
Has SEVERAL ways to be obtained
-Trading Post
-Mystic Toilet
-Crafting
-WvW
-Dungeons
His guide is on how to not spend gold, and in that sense, telling people if you want to be CHEAP you have to put in an alternate currency (time), then you should not be disagreeing with him or telling him that the game is broken. This is an example of working as intended.
Also, fotm is not the only dungeon being ran, I can get a group for any dungeon, including arah exp in a reasonable time frame. gw2lfg.com. It may not be an ingame tool (yet) but that doesnt mean you should refuse to use it either just because anet did not create it.
TL:DR
You dont have to run dungeons for max level gear, but it is the cheapest option to do so. Good job OP
I would never run this in any form of pvp, only i a dungeon if i ran it, just for theory to practice sakes
My issue with CM is that everyone wants to exploit geometry and skip to the last boss, i hate that
2000g is cheap for the relative amount of time needed to farm them
The hardest part of getting a legendary is
1) clovers
2) shards
3) the lodestone required
And the only really difficult one is the lodestone
I would probably take sword offhand, 1 for the block (potential free clone also) and 2 the illuision is a short-ish cooldown
It will kill to slowly in open world imo to replace shatters
it looks like it would be ok for dungeons as a sustained condition damage build, if you can manage to not have your clones killed every half dozen seconds or so when bosses do thier thing. However the clone generation is pretty decent so it shouldnt be an issue, scepter auto attacks are fast so u ought to be able to get some fairly high bleed stacks on your own, with a earth sigil and scepter clones.
Probably dont need mirror for generation, so you can bring utility like phantasmal defender or disenchanter (or in some fights like the fractal squid, bring arcane thievery + sig inspiration for teamwide 25 stacks of might)
I would consider sig of illusions
Looks like a ok build, will have to upgrade my condition set to try it out though.
The guy that was putting this onto a wepapp disappeared, if anyone has the skills to make a web based application for spreadsheets please by all means build off what is here
Just for clarification before someone says buy more inventory space.
I have the max amount of space anet allows you to purchase.
As someone who runs dungeons nonstop (all dungeons) I have 1 bank tab devoted solely to dungeon tokens, next week I will have to start on the second, I may just spend all the tokens on exotics to throw in the forge, but I would rather save the tokens for alts or if I make a new build and I need a diffferent gearset.
I am a max chef and artificer(actually I maxed all disciplines), I have two bank tabs full of food I dont want to throw away because I use it sometimes, same with potions.
I have to use 5 invisible bags to carry around all of my gearsets and weapons for various builds, I had this issue in guild wars one and it was somewhat addressed by thier equipement storage bag, but not fully.
It really sucks that one gear piece goes to one rune, it only makes the situation with storage space worse for changing builds that may only require a few piece and rune changes.
Here are a handful of additions to the user interface I feel anet should consider very strongly.
1) Dungeon tokens need to turn into a currency that can be withdrawn/deposited, displayed at the bottom of the inventory next to gems.
2) Two additonal quickslots (disabled in sPvP) for food and potions
3) Two new inventory TABS, one for food, one for potions, anything in these tabs can be used by the appropriate quickslot.
4) Once a character achieves level 80, any exotic level 80 gear is no longer maintained in the inventory tab. Once you get a piece of gear, your character remembers its appearance and stats, and is able to change freely using drop-down menus on the character page.
(for this, you are still required to gather all pieces of gear, for instance, if I was going to have a berserker and carrion Arah Chestpiece, I have to collect the arah chestpiece twice, but I can change between them freely on the character page, without having to waste space in the inventory)
5) Rune salvaging kits, 100% chance to recover a rune from an item without destroying the item. Or if the #4 change above is implemented, an additonal drop down menu for changing the runes you have applied to gear pieces.
Special thanks goes out to Algon Kokoon for updating this to be compatible with excel 2007,

updated the OP to also contain the link
As I get older, I notice that more and more people lack what I dub ‘people skills’, this is not Anets fault, it is the communities fault for not considering the viewpoint of the other players. The following are some examples of what would be nice to see in dungeons.
1) Be respectful, don’t be an kitten I don’t get enjoyment out of trolling the other members in my team, and you shouldn’t either, since they will leave and you wont finish the instance. Troll them after you get the loot.
2) Listen to requests from other dungeon members, doesn’t mean do what they want, just acknowledge them at least.
For instance:
A:: Can you not time-warp against subject alpha? It makes me die using my evade skill.
B:: Sorry you died, I’ll ping Time-warp next time i use it so you dont use skill by accident. I’m still going to use time-warp.
Instead of
A:: Can you not time-warp against subject alpha? It makes me die using my evade skill.
B:: Learn to dodge noob.
3) If even just one person in the group doesn’t want to exploit and glitch the dungeon, don’t do it. Things like bugging bosses, glitching through geometry to complete all three paths in one go, etc. A-net has been known to ban for these things, and they aren’t instant ban, they are ban you 2 months later after they collect data (GW1 Mallyx exploit anyone?)
4) Skipping mobs is a fact of life, if someone has an issue with it, kindly tell them to skip anyway.
Ill add more if the community comes up with them
(edited by Taerik.3405)
I did not include tips that require specific abilities to complete, since I least of all want to see groups requiring specific professions
I also did not include the exploit to finish p2, and then bug into p3 and p1 if you have a mesmer, I would rather see anet fix that than encourage its use
I’d like to add that if you have a mesmer in your group for the turret golem, tell them to use either 1h sword (auto attack) or phantasmal disenchanter (or even both) for constant boon stripping. Makes it so you don’t have to kill the turrets at all and everybody can just dps the golem and make the fight very short.
Actually im a mesmer, and i take shatters strip boons
Got nothing, sorry
Path 2:
Subject Alpha:
In path 2 the alpha fight is a dragon tooth, and a roomwide aoe. You have enough time to walk out of the roomwide aoe if you start exactly when it starts, else just use one dodge, probably the easiest of the alpha fights.
Path 2 and 3 share a explode a door encounter, bombs spawn and 2 golems spawn, ignore the golems and kill the bombs. After the door is gone, the only potential downfall is the abomination, he builds frenzy anytime he hits something so dont get hit.
Husk fight:
This is probably my favorite encounter in the game. Have 1 person continously clear blossoms and thorns. The other 4 people grab the guns, and subvert the golems into going and exploding on the husk, this works 10% of the time. So stand on different sides of the husks platform (not on it), when the golems come and stand next to you to explode, use the #2 skill on the gun and push him into the Husk.
Path 3:
Subject alpha: This alpha has both the cone aoe and the room aoe, if you push him into a wall you can stack on top of him and take little to no damage, just have one person be a dodger as insurance in case he moves a little and the people stack on top die.
Destroyer: This fight imo needs some changes from anet, its a stupid fight because its mechanic is NEAT!!! but refreshes to fast. So instead here is a method that tries to bypass the mechanic a little bit
3 people from the group (with the least ranged dps) will activate the turrets at the same time.
2 people with high ranged dps will stand on the destroyers platform JUST outside the shield range, the shield WILL knock you into a fiery death, so be careful. There is enough room to run back and forth out of the dragon tooths he will cast on them. When shield goes down dps (he fire shields himself so bring a heal/condition removal)
This fight takes about 10 minutes because you only have 2 people attacking.
The destroyer also never moves.
What anet SHOULD change about this fight is
1) change the floor from lava, into a floor that is only lava when the shield is up, while shield is down the floor becomes cooled stone you can walk on and only take reduced damage over time, and not super burn, no safe zones for someone to stand while the shield is up
2) Have the shield be down for 1 minute, not 10 seconds, giving everyone time to come down and dps, warning 15 seconds, 10 seconds, and 5 seconds prior to the shield via some flashy animation.
3) Have the destroyer move around while the shield is down, and when it goes back up he goes back to his shield
4) More smaller platforms to jump down to the boss, closer together, or more stairs to get up out of the pit that are all close to a lasergun. As it is now the stairs are the ONLY way up if you are in combat.
Im currently farming for sunrise, and I need lodestones for that, best places are pretty much fractals, the forge, and coe chests. I pretty much run this dungeon every day, and notice a lot of people struggle with it, or flat out refuse to do it because it is too hard, so maybe this will help a little, this is my tactic to conquer the inquest. I play full glass dps mesmer btw
The start
——————
You fight ice elemtals and wolves, the ice elementals will do a short range aoe ice blast that will 1shot most classes, if you melee it, dodge when it starts, its damage lags by about 2 seconds from the animation, its prefered to range.
Something to keep in mind for all paths, Subject alpha will always do a pboae burning, in addition to his path specific mechanic. On his second and third fights he will spawn undead tendrils. These are EXCELLENT rally tools for when someone goes down. He also imprisons 1 player from time to time. Teleports will remove you from the prison, power based damage is required to break them. At first oppurtunity break free someone stuck in a crystal. On the last fight essences will spawn, and he eats them to heal a small amount, they have a bit too much HP to kill before they get to him because of how fast they move, so just deal with it and dps him harder. If someone goes down during an alpha fight, its less than 50% chance that you can res them because of how fast the aoe comes. Any blocks or invulnerabilities make this fight that much more easy
Turret Golem:
The golem is common to all fights, he is a spank and spank boss, no special tactic is required. The turrets will give him boons, it is recommended that you kill protection and retaliation (if you have enough dmg, else just protection) when they respawn. Ranged dps can dps without fear of taking dmg (except from retaliation) by standing behind the thing just to the left of the doorway. Reflects own this boss.
Path 1
————-
Subject Alpha:
P1 Alpha fights by dropping a dragon tooth aoe, and then a room aoe in a directional cone.
The dragon tooth is easily avoidable, walk out of it.
The cone is more difficult, I feel its animation is too fast, however it is 100% avoidable, here is the trick, after he casts dragon tooth, he will face his cone target (dragon tooth takes 2 seconds to finish). After dragon tooth finishes, if he is facing you, count to 2, on 2 dodge either sideways, or towards him. It is easiest to accomplish this when everyone spreads out a little or stands on a different side of him.
Hacking the security console:
An endless supply of bombs will appear and explode in your face, they take two or three hits to kill, just kill them while the hacker works.
Have the person with the least power based damage be the hacker.
Everytime a security layer is hacked, 3 golems will appear, kill them before you hack another layer, or you will have to deal with 3 more, and it can quickly get out of hand, this approach is safer than the other approaches ive seen, commonly groups want 4 people to run around like chickens and try to hold agro on the golems and bombs while one person hacks, and it fails quite often resulting in massive gear damage.
Bjarl:
Spank fight, let him charge into a pillar to remove his armor, then dps
Combat stealthing and game balance…. dont work
buff revealed
Im not actually bothered by the burst, my mesmer can burst (oh boy can he burst)
I am bothered by thier stealth uptime, high mobility, and no penalty for it, theres a simple fix too
once you exit stealth, for every 1s you were stealth, you have 10 seconds of revealed
This leaves stealth as a powerful initiator and a powerful escape tool, and even a powerful mid combat force a backstab tool, but kills it as a your perma fighting in stealth tool, which is where the frustration with stealth is.
To be honest, I am against combat stealthing completly, but then the thief and mesmer class wouldnt work anymore the way thier skills are. (age of conan got it right imo, everyone has stealth, but its OOC only, rogues get a bonus for initiating combat from stealth)
either nerf stealth, or buff revealed
Its fine that a thief can initiate a fight from stealth
Its fine that a thief can leave a fight using stealth
That is what stealth should be for
Its not fine that a thief can spend the majority of a fight IN stealth, for every 1 second of stealth there should be 10 seconds of revealed.
Convenience stuff, like quickslots for food/maintenance oil, spec/gear combo saves for easy switching of builds, a sepereate inventory page for food/consumables, seperate inventory page for gear
All those things make my character more powerful IMO, without breaking the stat cap.
Hi, I primarily play mesmer, and I have been having a hard time finding a guild that fits my playstyle.
I enjoy to do wvw and dungeons, all day with the dungeons sometimes. I work rotating shifts so I play when I can.
I am seeking a organized guild, that encourages and almost flat out requires voicechat usage, that can run either as a zerg or field both a zerg and a small cap group of 5 people away from the zerg (I enjoy playing in smaller cap groups)
I primarily play mesmer, in small scale I play a power based shatter spec, in large scale if I know thats what I’ll play all night I’ll switch over to a glamour confusion build. I’m still collecting gear for the second spec.
Let me know if you think your guild is a match for me
I’d just like to point out that the server status display is under Arenanet’s control.
Anyone remembers what happened to AoC server status display?
How do you know that?
How do I know what? If you’re talking about Arenanet controlling it, well duh… it’s their code which shows server status so they can change it whenever and however they want.
If you’re talking about AoC: almost immediately after launch the server display was altered to permanently show “medium load” on all their servers, which is still true to this day. You don’t need to believe me, just check for yourself and/or ask anyone who ever played the game.
I miss age of conan’s glory month, that game had potential, I kept comming back to it for its combat and raids/dungeons, but kept leaving due to lack of people. If only a game company would make a game to be fun and not to squeeze every penny out of players, they might make a long term cash cow instead of a few month paycheck.
Idk about a cape, but I would like a way to strap my 1h sword to my back instead of my hip tbh, let pistols, focus, scepter be hip items.
This is a neat build, I wasnt aware dodge exploding clones counts as clone death, because shattering doesnt, nice to know
Are you kiding me? Do you guys seriously think we are the WEAKEST CLASS? There are tons of ways we outperform the other classes. Heck, we get almost as much rage as thiefs when it comes to pvp.
Damage? We have plenty. Look at that new shattercat build on these forums, our burst is high AND its aoe. We are also very range flexible and highly survivable even when full burst spec. Between clones and distortion its hard to hit a mesmer no matter what spec they are.
Support? Some of the best. You know all that drama about mesmer being neccassary to WvW? You just can’t beat portal, null field, feedback, and time warp.
Control? In the interupt department we don’t have much (though magic bullet is super strong) but we can manipulate enemies in a way no other class can, with our clones. Before you say a good player will find you remember “You can fool all the people some of the time, you can even fool some of the people all of the time, but you cannot fool all the people all the time.” ~ Abraham Lincoln (I can’t believe I got to use this)
While I agree with you for the most part…
Shattercat isnt exactly a ‘new’ build, people have been running it for a long time, osicat just put some awesome videos and instruction together at a time when most mesmers were giving up due to phantasm nerfs. The community needs more people like him, I tried once to put a excel pve gear calculator together but the people to lazy to get excel 2010 either shunned me or told me I was trying to put a virus on thier computer, the link is “http://filebin.ca/N4Gl0RUy1Tp” if your interested, you will have to enable editing, I got a friend trying to put it into a web based app.
Now, back to agreeing with you more
Mesmers can run a great variety of builds, for roaming in a small group you can play shatters and easily and quickly cap camps and if you got 5-8 people can also quickly take towers if you have rams, I solo camps usually since I dont have a wvw guild.
Upscaling to larger scale, you can swap your build (idk why most people dont do this, carry two sets of gear, greens work just fine, and respeccing costs 3 silvers) to a glamor confusion build. 20/0/0/20/30. This build absolutly wrecks zergs, it also wrecks portal bombers, it wrecks just about any group of people that you toss your glamours on. Can also solo with it but its not as fun kittenters solo. If you feel you dont need the glamours last longer trait you can also swap it for focus skills reflect projectiles and wreck zergs some more.
There was always more than just LoSing and casting phantasms in wvw, just people are not aware of the builds just yet.
sword/x shatters, lots of fun, lots of dmg (decent aoe), fairly survivable, save blurred frenzy and distortion for when you need it
Any group that doesnt complain when you dont res them in a subject alpha fight while your trying to dodge aoe is a good group in my book
I usually play a sword/x shatter build
Between blurred frenzy, distortion, and dodges i can usually stay in a bossses face, and in places like CoE against subject alpha the invul is nice against all the aoe.
If I am testing new builds, i wont buy exotics for them, ill wear greens to see how it works, if i like it ill pay for the stats and upgrade to exotics
I hate having all my stats be on gear, in gw1 stats were easily resetable
I spent about 17 hours putting this little gem together, it doesnt have the new gear on it yet, and I have a friend who is inserting this into a webbased app so you dont even need excel for it.
edit:
Thanks to Algon Kokoon for updating the spreadsheet to be compatible with excel 2007, and its cleaner, through clever use of SUMPRODUCT there are no more nested if statements.
(edited by Taerik.3405)
Warriors shouldnt have a cooldown on weapon swap, but sigils that are ‘on weapon swap’ need an ICD of 5s
Im still tanky, but Ive noticed that agony still kills even with 15 agony resistance, so we try to bring 2 guys that can survive a bit better than the other guys, and revive. A lot of fights are revive dps revive dps (I took the trait to give the shield bubble when reviving, its awesome btw)
I play guardian, tanky spec, and Ill use hammer or greatsword depending on my mood, usually hammer because its pro
for fractals, I farm them daily, only up to level 13 due to having to repeat lower levels just to be able to group, and there is one fight you need ranged for, and that is the iceman/dredgemachine fight. That entire fight is a mobile fight, sure u can smack him in melee but if he stops to hit you YOUR wasting the fire debuff on the boss.
There are a few places where you need to carry a ranged option in your backpack, im thinking TA spider path, also.
There is no one build fits all, its why anet lets us change utility skills and major traits on the fly
Income is easy in this game
1) get to level 80, it takes a week, from level 1, your already 65
2) Do dynamic events
3) dungeons give you loot, generally 20silver (usually more than repair costs)
4) get t6 mats, I get all mine by salvaging whites from DE and dungeons
5) salvage rares for ecto, sell exotics for money
Hey, your now making money everyday, even if you die 20x, and just by playing normally
I sometimes play a bomber eng, but I also use elixer gun with kit refinement in the same build. Dont foget you also should try to do some amount of damage or debuff (bomb confuse/blind) as well.
I played mine like, bomb in melee range, if conditions got tough or if I needed extra heals, id switch to EG (which with kit refine drops a super elixer, a healing field and cures a condition), cast another super elixer (more heals, more condition remove), and then fumigate if more conditions needed removed, finaly use the #2 skill as it hits fairly hard, and go back to bombs. I didnt worry about dying much because I was in the front with a guardian playing a permanent symbol of protection build, sometimes I wouldnt even heal Id just spam the EG weakness.

That should help you out, someone is trying to make a webbased version of it
Pure stat wise divinity runes are king, because they flesh out everything, you can get more than enough healing power from dungeon armor heal, prec, vitality gear.
You have 916 healing power just standing there naked with no traits.
adding 300 hp increases most heals about 5%
adding 300 toughness decreases direct-damage about 15% (assuming medium full exotic) as your defense goes from 1980 to 2280.
/shrug
You have 0 healing power naked with no traits.
You start wtih
916 Power
916 Precision
916 Toughness
916 Vitality
4% Crit chance (further precision will improve this)
And some amount of base health based upon what your class is
Healing Power does scale terribly with many things, your #6 skill gets the most benifit
Water eles in thier water attunement with the passive aoe regeneration is actually fairly awesome, it ticks every 1 second like a normal regeneration does (compare to 3seconds with a guardians virtue of resolve)
Healing Power is a personal stat, so if you get the regeneration boon, it uses your personal HP, not the person who applied it, however direct incomming heals, such as a water ele or a guardians spirit bow, is dependant upon the casters HP
While the trinity is ‘broken’, you are required to bring some things to get through the more difficult content
Tanky characters, everyone being glass cannon leads to insta wipes
Defensive support, protection, weakness, blind, cripple, immobilize, HEALS, CC
Offensive support, might, vulnerability, damage, CC
(edited by Taerik.3405)
I’m enjoying the new dungeon, speak for yourself
I’ll only take a non 80 on the first few levels of the fractals, upscaling doesnt help against the later stuff
If you take off your gear in a group I will kick you, if you decide to only wear MF gear in the group and are not skilled enough to contribute with kittened stats I will ask you to change your gear, or you will get kicked.
Im having a blast in the new dungeon, having a system where a dungeon is a puzzle and bosses have a neat mechanic to win instead of just zerg the boss to death is win in my book, good job anet.
I enjoy that the dungeon isnt just a mindless keyboard faceroll to loot, you have to think and overcome some mechanic at times.
AND THAT the trash doesnt have umpteenmillion hit points
Ive just found some diminishing returns on power, around the 1700 mark, if anyone knows mathematically how this works reply in thread or PM me and I will add it to the spreadsheet, and also cause anything that hits a softcap to turn yellow. (IE I ought to have 1739 power but only have 1710)
Its vertical progression for the people that want it
40-50% is the sweet spot for crit based builds, at least imo, im sure others think differently
static discharge builds destroy low level pve
go pistol/pistol for the aoe
condi/power/precision ish focus
grab 3 utility skills with low toolbelt cds (rifle turret ought to be 1 of them, because u can shoot, drop turrent, overload turrent, and then explode turret (getting 2 static discharges quick and massive dmg)
New filesharing
Hmm, I had one guy say the same thing, it works for 2 in 4 people so far? Maybe its google converting it to something, then you trying to convert it back, because google isnt a true xlxs.
Ill look for a filesharing site
You have to download the file, google is just a file sharing tool for me
Updated bad link, sorry about that
It was announced that the higher tier gear will be available in more than just the pve dungeon, to include WvW
