The game isn’t only about damage numbers. Rangers have massive amounts of CC and massive amounts of evasion. That is worth an awful lot.
Also get yourself a 1 handed sword and stop using barrage in 1 on 1 fights with a warrior.
LOL…. that’s all I have to say is LOL. Do not even bother to answer this kid, its obvious he has never played a ranger and is too worked up that his any threat to toppling his guardian off the top spot means another underwear wash day for his mother.
He’s referring to soft CC aka chill, cripple, immobilize and those we have in every weapon set and in many utilities. Main problem with soft CC is that they are rather weak and very easily nullified whereas only way to counter hard CC is with stability.
You can be useful but prepare to work twice as hard to be that.
Brazil’s ranger guide is pretty much the best ranger dungeon build atm.
I would just add that the current state of barrage is rather against the ranger. Try to put barrage on retaliation buffed enemy. You will end up recieve more dmg from retaliation then you actually do with barrage itself, which is ridiculous. Small dmg but long duration (12 waves) is just horrible mechanic.
I lose, on average, about 9-10k health using barrage on an enemy zerg of 40+ just from the fact that every tick wither hits a guardian or hits his buddy that’s guaranteed to be buffed with retal.
That just shows how broken retaliation itself is. It should deal back a certain % of dmg instead of preset amount. That way it would be useful against heavy hitters and not horribly overpowered against weapons that hit faster.
Not in sPvP = isn’t an issue…
use forage with your pig and you can have healing seed too
but i have only ever seen 1 person in game with a pig for a pet, and that was me.
There might be a reason for that…
IMHO. They need to nerf chest droprates severely and increase the droprates of the more useful things in chests. A couple of days ago on TC the Hairstyle contract was going for 1.8k gold. .-.
That’s because hairstyle kits only dropped from large wintersday gifts, not Black Lion chests.
Another thing where ranger loose DPS vs other classes is the Runes,Sigils,Foods and Nourishments. Before you ask it why? Its easy we not buffed fully with this stuffs. We got Power scale decrase on skills because of pets but if we use this items to boost up the Ranger pet earn 0% boost.
That’s a good one. How about applying our consumables buffs to the pet? (food/oil)
Or for that matter, other buffs like the wvw Guard Defense buff, etc. All these buffs only have slightly above half the effect on ranger than what they give to other classes.
Don’t forget ascended gear in general. We get less benefit from weapons/armors/accessories compared to other classes.
I’m a male. The reason most off my characters are female is that I spent most time looking at the back. And personally I prefer looking at a womans back.
Bottom line is that most female players I know prefer playing female characters. for male players bout 50% prefers playing a female character (and indeed not to impersonate a woman, I seldom do that but cause they prefer the looks). the other 50% prefers a male character.
This means there are more female characters in game then male.
Just because the people around you think that way doesn’t mean the whole community thinks the same.
Norn male body types look like all of them skipped leg day.
I have salvaged a ton of rares, never seen dark matter, never knew it dropped from rares? But like Zac I have received dark matter almost every time w/exotics.
Only exotic salvages can drop dark matter. Rares only drop ectos.
Female characters have much better animations compared to male counterparts. Everything from idle stances to sword swing just look much more refined.
And female armors and other visuals just look much more detailed.
One thing i would really like to see is a numerical pet health bar similar to what the Necros got in the last patch.
1. Bind AoE loot to a key you use constantly.
2. Kill stuff and collect the loot while you are at it.
3. ????
4. Profit.
Aaaaaa so many red posts!
If only one of them would mention our class mechanic that is more of a burden than an asset…
If you don’t even bother making a nice and clean forum post by proofreading it then how do you expect anyone to take it seriously?
What you see is WvW players complaining. Pets didn’t get a health boost there and are still squishy as a tissue paper.
For me the PvE health boost has been a godsend. I can finally run Jaguar/Raven without worrying all the time.
Just use this one.
If the API is working properly the timers will be spot on.
Just go solo it.
Paper bags are dangerous, you could suffocate. Ellen did not want something like that in her city.
Except Evon is the one withholding them from sale in his shop.
That’s what you get for not voting Evon…
Originally Tail wind and Furious Grip didn’t have an internal CD so you could stack them by picking up bundles in combat.
I play content even if I don’t enjoy it if the end reward is worth it.
I am mostly a PvE player and while I do enjoy occasional WvW and sPvP it is not enough to keep me interested because the effort-reward ratio just isn’t as good as doing open world PvE or dungeons.
Thank you Kristen. This is exactly the kind of interaction we have been wanting for a long time.
One simple red post which explains why something was done and what is planned for the future makes a lot of people happy.
I have several questions…
First, if a Ranger wants to focus on traps, they pretty much are forced into placing 30 of their trait points into the Skirmishing tree in order to pick up the two major traits that affect them. This leads to granting the Ranger 300 Precision and 30% Crit damage, two attributes that do not contribute to a trap build in any way. Wouldn’t these two traits lean more towards the Survival tree, not only because traps are not really something one would imagine being used in a Skirmish, but because that tree at least benefits the actual play style by incorporating condition damage.
Actually i love the fact that precision is in the trap trait tree. Running full rabid gear with 30 in skirmishing gives a very high crit chance when I have fury up. Combine that with bleed on crit trait and sigil you’ll end up getting bleeds from your vipers nest and flame trap. Not to mention that you can get 3 stacks of bleed for every shortbow attack.
But i do agree that critical dmg is bit weird on that line and should be swapped to cond dmg or duration.
They exist in the data files, but apparently Anet decided to nix both along with swimsuits. For some reason Anet is extremely conservative and refuse to release anything that could be seen as somewhat sexual (probably for fear of appearing like Tera).
Bags I’m sure were nixed because it would be immersion breaking having people running around in battle with paper bags as helms. Although why they don’t just release them as town clothes is beyond me.
Immersion breaking while there are people running around with rainbow staffs, shooting rainbow unicorns or having a disco fever coupled with cute and cuddly pink quaggan backpacks.
Yeah I guess it would break the whole immersion thing they got going on here.
3,000 hours in, been playing since betas, shoved hundreds of exos down Zomorros’s throat yet not a single precursor or anything even remotely worthwhile. All the while a friend of mine that has quit months ago got 4 precursors from the mystic forge within a week.
For the love of all humanity, if you show a dungeon run on the stream, please DO NOT run a bearbow set up and chill at 1200 range with a longbow…
Don’t worry. They’ll be chilling at 1500 range to maximize the effectiveness of the longbow.
If you’re in Orr…yea, this always frustrates me. If you’re not in Orr…where are you? I haven’t seen a zone with that many contested WPs in quite some time.
Harathi Hinterlands is my guess. During off hours every WP above the mid section off the map is contested.
Don’t forget the fact that in GW2 most of the endgame grinding is purely focused on reaching exclusive high-end skins. Stats grind isn’t that big of an issue since you can just use transmutation to keep the same look from start to finish.
I’m sure the artists and developers used huge amounts of time to work on these changes and i truly appreciate it. But you need to open up on your player base. This whole ordeal could have been averted if you had communicated with your customers and asked if option A is any better than option B.
Also you seriously need a proofreader for your patchnotes. Huge stuff like this should never slip from them not to talk about the dozens of other changes that aren’t listed in the patchnotes.
Oct 15th patch notes: Fixed a bug where some zero-damage spells (Tainted Shackles, among others) did not place their casters in combat.
So it is intended. For example thiefs infiltrator arrow will put you in combat because it blinds targets in a small AoE radius.
This is excellent work. Ive read posts on this upcoming change in the sylvari section where they explained exactly how hard it is to make this kind of update and the flat-out truth is that you ought to be grateful. They put in a lot of work to make the sylvari glow work and it should be appreciated. I know we’re all very sorry that YOUR special combination of dyes that was just PERFECT before no longer looks the same. But I’m afraid youre just gonna have to find something else that works….
And another thing: this kind of update took several months to get released since its inception, if you try and make them rework it again: not only will you not see it for quite a while, but you might like it less. Not to mention the fact that many of us like myself really like the changes.
Bottom line: Bite the bullet and get used to the change. There are new combinations to explore and ONE of them will meet your needs. Thank anet for responding to our cries for this change and make it work.
Do you also take your car to a dealership for routine oil change only to find out that they also changed the engine to an electric motor and painted the car puke green to show off it’s eco-friendliness and then just say: “Oh well I guess this is better for my tastes.”
The thing is that they never should change stuff that has been untouched for 14 months without any communication. I bought my t3 armor knowing that it’d look exactly like that, I bought the dyes knowing they would work like that with the armor hell I even bought multiple makeover kits to make my character just perfect for my tastes. And now all that gold and gems are worthless to me since I can’t get the same look that I’ve been perfecting for the past year.
Stuff like this happens because there is virtually no communication between developers/artists and their customers. Give us polls, previews, public test servers so we could see what you are planning to do and then give you constructive feedback instead of just suddenly putting something in the game which turns out to be worse than it was before.
The reason why you didn’t see any feedback on the looks of the old armors was because people didn’t see anything to complain about and were happily playing the game. Only the very small minority come to the forums asking for changes.
Creatures with silver ring are now called Elites. REMEMBER THAT!
They always were called like that.Nothing new
Nope. Before they were named exactly the same as normal mobs.
The last patches sylvari cultural armor change got me thinking. What’s the point of grinding for skins and aesthetics when all that time and effort might get nullified every 2 weeks?
The reason why I picked Sylvari as my first race was the fact that I could mix and match different shades and colors, the way their cultural clothing looks like and how simple dyes can give completely different results on my armors. Now all of a sudden all that effort is gone. Completely out of the blue they changed how my armors react to different dyes, different shades and now even the most expensive dyes in the game look like they came out of the starter set.
I’ve been playing this game for 3,000 hours of which 2,500 hours I’ve spent on my main perfecting her looks. I’ve spent ludicrous amounts of gold and gems to get her to look like the way I like it. I’ve bought every single dye available in the game to be soulbound on one single character because of how differently every single dye reacted.
The thing that I’m worried about is that what’s the point of grinding for looks when it might look completely different the next day? Why get a legendary weapon when it might be a teddybear that shoots cottoncandy the next day.
If I’m buying something it is because I like the way it looks like now, not because it might look good in the future.
As a tier 3 medium user this change is the worst thing to happen.
+1 to this.
I’ve spent over 2,5k hours and probably over 3k gold to get the looks on my main and with this all of that goes down the drain.
The T3 medium armor color channels got a complete overhaul.
Now instead of giving different shades and combinations when using one dye it’s completely plain color.
See pictures for reference. (Both are using the same dye scheme.)

After: http://i.imgur.com/JgjchH3.jpg
This chance was completely unnecessary and needs to be reverted. The old dye system was infinitely better.
On EU side Desolation spends 4 weeks as blue and 3 weeks as green… :/
I’ve got 2 ascended weapon chests from l26 dailies. As long as something drops ascended materials there is a chance of getting ascended weapons.
I currently have my AoE loot binded on shift and utility skills from 7-0 binded to shift+2-5. That way I automatically pick up any loot out there. I also keep spamming shift just incase. :P
2500 gems is roughly 160 gold, that is enough to fully level and gear a character from scratch with crafting.
Progress: 0%
After playing for a solid year, I’ve still yet to get a single precursor drop. Since I dont farm or play 12 hours a day, I’ve got about 250g, far too little to buy one.
Blah.
RNG is RNG. I play several hours per day, farm, use the mystic forge yet not a single precursor drop in 3k hours. Yet I still have 2 legendaries, emperor title, every dye in the game and lots of other expensive stuff. That is because I focus on achieving something instead of praying for RNG gods to give me a good roll.
Crafts that go from 0-400 now give roughly 7 levels and crafts that go up to 500 give the full 10 levels. And it is still a viable leveling method. I recently crafted my mesmer from 45 to roughly 74 by doing the 4 cheapest crafts, cost me maybe around 30g.
The term skill ceiling amuses me, it used to be said rangers were easy to play casually but had a high skill ceiling to master them, now apperantly the skill ceiling is low again xD
Mostly because the only viable PvP build for rangers is as passive as it gets. Pop 4 spirits and spam shortbow skills off CD and maybe once in a while swap to sword and dagger for some evasions. Even the condition removal is completely passive. It just requires zero input and though to be able to perform well as a spirit bunker.
I’m not having any issues running full berserker on my warrior. The sheer amount of self sustain and damage is just way too much for pretty much any class to take on. Axe/shield and GS wreaks things faster than any ranger could ever dream of.
Guardians should be higher on that list. If they have a target they can use 2 teleports that cover a lot of ground and also they can maintain a perma swiftness.
Leave the train alone. The last thing I want is farming to go back to dungeons.
This…
I don’t want to rely on others to be able to make money. Champtrains are fine as they are, even with the occasional idiots they are mostly a friendly bunch on my server.
I got 2 exos and 1 rare from 2 rank boxes couple of days ago while playing my ele in Borderlands. Ranks were 9&10. Don’t know if they improved rank chests that much or was it just random streak of luck.
One question. Are you making legendaries because of their looks and added benefits or just to fill up one achievement?
I mean you already get the most flashy weapons in the game that everyone can and will witness so I can’t see any real reason to get yet another title amongst the dozens so far.
Get some alts. I now have 4 lvl 80s and can get about 90 ingots per day.
