Guardians of the Vault [GotV] and Guíld of Dívíne Soldíers [GoDS]
Gate of Madness server
Thanks for addressing this so quickly, Anet…but I’m gonna return it, copper and all. I don’t want so much as a centaur’s dirty hoof from those…kittens.
:)
Having my after-breakfast coffee and preparing to go to work…oh, you mean in game, right?
I’m currently having a blast in Hrathi Hinterlands. My thief is level 42 (a mystical level!) and the meta-events there are a hoot. I rather suspect that when the zone was designed the devs were competing to see who could come up with the ugliest mob, but it’s still great fun.
;)
This isn’t meant as criticism, merely an exercise in imagination now that we’ve been playing for a month. If you could have one wish, one thing to take about GW2 and change, what would it be?
For me, it would be the removal of multi-guilding and replacing it with the old alliance system from GW1. I understand the reasoning behind implementing the multi-guilding, because different guilds do different things. However, it seems to me that alliances not only address this but also widen a player’s range of options as well as friends!
What say you?
Folks, let me direct you to a Facebook page I made for our server shortly before launch…

You’re more than welcome to make use of it for this purpose. Our guild is small, but a few of us are now dabbling in PvP and are willing to talk!
:)
I don’t get it who the hell is Martin Kerstein
Community Lead. He also advises:
If you cannot get on – try closing the client and restart it, seemed to have solved the issue for some people it seems. ^MK
For those of you still having trouble. I’d already signed off for the evening so I’m just observing all this.
:)
Be easy, folks. From Martin Kerstein’s Twitter:
I got booted as well, I will escalate. ^MK
Fear not this night.
:)
Has anyone heard if there are plans for this? I also think it’s a great idea!
My thief and mesmer handle dodging okay, but I struggle with it on my warrior. I think I still have this subconscious mindset of “it’s a heavy armor class, it can take abuse” going on and forget which game I’m playing.
;)
And you just keep finding more. My favorite place to “rest” my charr warrior is Smokestead because you can repair, sell stuff, and upgrade to new equipment. The merchants have “assistants” who keep hollering “I’m working as fast as I can!” and “We’re all out of the big ones”. Then there’s a charr roasting a boar on a spit nearby, arguing with others over whether it’s “done” or not: “Shut up! I’ll tell ya when it’s done!”
Then, last night, a brawl broke out among soldiers from the three legions and my girl had to go bust some heads to calm everyone down. That was a DE I hadn’t noticed before.
Love it!
:)
I have an Asura and a Charr, both female, and rather than squabbling like this they sit around exchanging recipes.
Which is quite odd, because it’s my Norn ranger (also female) who’s the chef.
;)
I’m pretty sure some Norn NPC in one of my personal storyline quests swore “by Bear’s bald butt”.
:)
I’ve started using it in my day-to-day life, since I work with the public and lapsing into profanity is frowned upon. Anet may have inadvertently started a language trend.
:)
This morning I was heading for the skill point in Caledon Forest right before the DoW and had “Discovered the Dominion of Winds” pop up on my screen. For one crazy moment I thought my thief had wandered into someplace she shouldn’t be, followed by a moment of panic because I know how LOTRO used to deal with such players. Even when the going astray was accidental.
;)
I believe you’re right, Zenyatoo…that event wasn’t running yesterday when I first found the area, but it was this morning.
Still funny and cute, though.
:)
Odd things make me smile, like some of the NPC lines in the Norn starting area.
For example when you complete a challenge in a cave their the NPC sais: “Bear approves of you, I can feel her little tail wagging in my heart.” I have no idea why I find this so funny, but it makes me smile every single time.
I know the exact character you mean…Bear Shaman Marga. Whoever does her voice is either Paula Poundstone or someone doing an excellent imitation of her. But I haven’t been able to find anything on it online.
:)
Because there are lots of them in this game.
For me, it was yesterday morning. I’m taking my 33-ish human thief through all the other racial starter areas, to get acquainted with them as well as complete some exploration chores. In one of the Caledon Forest outposts (a crafting area to the north, the name escapes me), I overheard two Sylvari NPC’s talking. Here’s their conversation, paraphrased:
“Yesterday I saw little creatures running all over the place, they startled me!”
“Little creatures? Oh, they’re just Asura, they’re strange but friendly.”
“No, these were little versions of normal-sized creatures!”
Apparently someone’s mini-Rytlock was running amok.
:)
Lots of opinions and very few facts. I suppose that the people who didn’t like it generally already play the game. That’s my gut feeling. If it brings in more sales then it will be successful. I get what they were trying to do and no I didn’t hate it, even though it wasn’t directed at me but I can see how it would work for a specific target audience. In any case….people are talking about it.
Just so. That’s why I keep wondering where it’s appeared outside of GW2-related media. Is it on television, theaters, etc? Is it running on TV’s in restaurants, medical clinics, your local Walmart?
That’s what I’m curious to know. My Asura mesmer wants to study reactions to it.
;)
I enjoy it so much I think we should adapt it into our daily lives. Today at work I said, “Who the kitten brought that out here???”
:)
I actually suspected it was aimed at those who do not game, but are considering getting into it but feel a little shy, perhaps because of the stereotypes that build up around those with our particular obsession.
But I may be wrong. Has this trailer appeared anywhere other than on the official GW2 site since it was released? Things got rather quiet after all that hubbub.
When I do it, I almost always get a “TY” from the player in question, and I do the same. If things are simply too busy I’ll make sure to at least /bow or /salute.
:)
Well, kiss mykitten and go to heaven!
:)
Mine not only does that, she tends to yell about adrenaline at random times…like when there’s not even a battle going on.
Seriously, she runs past a rabbit and “ADRENALINE RISING!!!”
Excitable critters, aren’t they?
:)

I see people using that word in our forums, but have no clue how it’s being used here.
It sounds like I’m in an episode of the Smurfs sometimes, “I’m so mad, I’m gonna smurf your smurfity, smurf-face!”
It’s our rather unique forum profanity filter, it replaces offensive words with “kitten”.
Which is prettykittensmart, actually…you see the word, visualize cute little kittens, and if you were angry enough to curse you calm down.
;)
I love the kitten filter. Just thinking of kittens makes me smile.
:)
Here is a list I’m making of words and phrases that have entered my everyday vocabulary since beginning to play GW2. Many of you no doubt have your own!
*Excelsior
*Pukilicious
*Slag iron!
*My legend grows!
*Skritt!
*It is good you have met me!
I’m particularly fond of that last one, gets the funniest looks from people at work.
:)
The Norn running animation is also slow…I think it’s designed that way simply because they’re bigger characters. Of course, we could have a foot race between all five races to confirm!
:D
Great Northern Wall? I assume that’s the one you mean, you have to race them to the wall. I never noticed that.
I don’t mind it, but has Anet ever explained why they chose such an animation for the Charr when they didn’t have it in GW1? Because that must have taken a hell of a lot of extra work to pull off.
:)
I’d like to hear what you liked about it.
ArenaNet has some great videos out there showcasing GW2. I’ve seen lots of them and I can see how much thought and love they put into this beautiful game.
I’m having an awesome time exploring their brilliant creation.
This commercial just got me confused, because it looked to be their first TV-like commercial, and it didn’t seem to know what it was trying to say.
Oh, I won’t argue that point. The Gamescom 2011 trailer is far and away the best trailer for GW2 overall…but bear in mind that one was designed with hooking gamers for GW2, whereas this one seems to be directed at non-gamers.
And that’s why I say I find it cool, if not mind-blowingly spectacular. If Joe Schmo is sitting in front of a Big Bang Theory episode during the Christmas season, how will he react when he sees the running girl with her spray paint (assuming he doesn’t note the disparity between the color she paints and the color on the can), the firewalking kids, the swimming broad in a kittentail dress who suddenly morphs into a Norn warrior? Will he note the GW2 logo and head for his computer to find out what it’s all about?
I bet some of you work in advertising and can shed some light.
;)
I may be in the minority of people who liked it. I thought it was pretty dang cool.
However, I am curious: is this meant to be a television commercial or what? I wonder who the target audience is meant to be.
When the mysterious tweets began turning up Sunday evening (the quotes from the original teaser trailer and the race trailer), I thought that’s what Anet was building up to. An announcement about this.
But that turned out to be the new trailer, so I was mistaken. Don’t tell my Asura mesmer, okay?
;)
At least we now know why humans are killing all those centaurs.
Mmmmm. Delicious buttery centaurs.
Well, I don’t know about you, but I killed that last one because he spawned on top of me while I was gathering copper ore and yelled, “I promise a painful end!”
Then I took his butter. Silly centaur.
;)
Dang, Futabot beat me to it.
OT: Is it a very common crafting mat for chefs (I have one, haven’t really gotten started with her yet)? If so, it might be best to save up all that butter.
Maybe there’s a rare recipe for Elvis Presley’s peanut butter and banana sandwiches out there, I think they were fried in butter.
:D
I sold my store’s last copy of GW2 the other evening…and I don’t even work the electronics area! But she’d called asking if we had any left, and there was just one….I held it for her until she got there.
“Worth every penny” I told her. And it is. Thank you.
:)
It’s best to unlock all the weapon skills, then experiment with them to see which works best for you. I’ve found that to be the case on all my characters, not just the thief.
And dodge, dodge, dodge. I know you mentioned that, OP, but I have to scold myself (spoiled with years of games that did that for me) fairly often. I die a lot, too, but the learning experience is worth it.
;)
My LOTRO kin leader and another friend who is not a fan of MMO’s are two people I’ve managed to coax into GW2. And they’re both loving it!
:)
Here as well, and also a guildmate. Though I was on earlier with no trouble.
Hi, I’ve a question about the email you receive after clicking the “send” button in the launcher.
After doing this I got an email from “ArenaNet” telling me to “Activate my Guild Wars account”, followed by a link. The return address is noreply@guildwars2.com, so it appears to be legitimate. I just want to confirm that it is before proceeding.
Forgive the paranoia but in light of the stories I’ve been reading, it’s difficult not to be a little wary.
Thanks!
