Guardians of the Vault [GotV] and Guíld of Dívíne Soldíers [GoDS]
Gate of Madness server
Do we know when, exactly, this will be implemented? For example, if a guild is considering moving to another server as a whole (something my guild has discussed but never really decided on), they’ll need to be settled on their new server before fees become a factor.
If my guildies still want this, I’ll need to give ’em a nudge.
Ok stupid question. How do you know it’s a dev?
They have a red Anet logo above their head.
And, if they’re not too busy or shy, they’ll chat a bit.
I do wonder why this thread has been allowed to stay open when the T&Cs state that the words Anet/Devs/Moderators cannot be used in the title for any topic?
This is the case for threads where users use staff/ developer call-outs as a tool to gather attention and try to get their issues solved faster – e.g. “Fix this, ArenaNet!”
So it’s actually not a problem here.Greetings
Greetings. Contrary to popular belief, there are many of us loving and enjoying the game, and looking forward to the content being developed and now teased a bit.
For me, at least, this game has paid for itself many, many times over.
If there is, it’ll probably drop around the time we have the Claw of Jormag down to about 10% health.
Was just watching the video. Unlike many I haven’t managed to get bored by the game yet (there’s tons of content I haven’t even seen!), but still swinging my sword in happy anticipation!
During a fight with the Claw of Jormag just now, I remarked how funny it is that the dragon likes to “Logan Thackery” everybody.
I may have started a trend.
Just report and delete, the more info we give the mods the better they will be able to track down and zap the…kittens.
Logan Thackery is Tyria’s Forest Gump, he keeps on running and will do anything for his Jenny, I mean Jenna.
Oh wow the possibilities grew from this connection!
“You ain’t got no human legs Legionnaire Rytlock!”
“I know that Seraph Thack.”
Indeed.
(Logan holding a box of you-know-what) “Life in Tyria is like a box of chocolates…you never know what you’re going to get…OMG, a coconut one!!!”
(Drops box and runs screaming into the street)
Also, not really a proper joke, but:
Logan T and Rytlock B went into town one day,
A nearby Quaggan broke loud wind and Logan ran away!
I see ups and downs to these forums. On the plus side, they serve nicely a a communication point between Anet and its customers. Also, I like the design and layout very much…easy on the eyes.
Many of you are too young to appreciate that but trust me, when you hit forty, it hits back.
The only thing that irritates me is the automated message you get from “Forum Moderator” in certain circumstances. I know the CM’s are too busy to respond individually to each and every message they get, but I’m sure I recieved an infraction in error and have no way to elevate it apart from the email (which did nothing). I have no idea who I’m supposed to talk to.
But since I can’t actually see the infraction, maybe it doesn’t matter. Still, it’s puzzling.
Also, this way the whole server would be shouting when a dragon attacks. You could even have warning horns sound off in the distance or city bells ringing for an alert.
Excellent suggestion here. Even if you’re at some remote ranch, you could still have an NPC come running in hollering that the Shatterer or whatever is attacking this town or that. Everyone races off to the rescue.
I
I like the idea of moving the Big Three around as someone suggested…though that might take some doing, remember you also have to move the NPC’s that are part of their events as well. Plus, we’d always need a mountain for the Claw to crash into when he’s shot down.
I’m amused by the Charr cooking near the BC, but near the TP NPC’s there are a couple of annoying ones:
“Boss, I’m working as fast as I can (despite the fact that “boss” never says anything and this peon apparently defines “working as fast as he can” as “standing there talking”)!"
“We’re all out of those big ones.”
“That trader left a message for you, boss.”
“I can’t stock more of those until you get more in!” (Ya think?)
However, the most epic NPC dialogue in the game belongs to the one and only Halan Fromanj.
The Big Three are a lot of fun, sort of a social event of their own. Even the Claw, whose fight can be frustrating between the dragonfear, the ice spikes, and the untargetable wall. I especially enjoy the Shatterer since they buffed him up.
That said (and I’ve posted about this elsewhere), it would be cool to see another dragon boss or two pop up unexpectedly. That’s something I hope Anet is considering in their coming updates.
I’m just curious. How many of you guys have read Edge of Destiny?
I have, once, and after reading this thread I want to read it again. But every time I find the dang thing on the shelf, it disappears!
Never saw a book behave like that.
Need to find out whether the Toxx/Ellen McLain rumor is true,
I told a guildmate that Toxx sounded like GLaDOS, but he said it was my imagination! Please tell me it’s true, so I can do the “I told you so” dance in his face!
I was just posting about this in a thread of my own. It seems that is the case in LA, where there’s a beautiful string piece playing now. Very much an improvement.
It’s beautiful, whatever it is. I’ll have to play the soundtrack again so I can figure out which piece it is.
Dang.
Haha. They forgot to update mini-map
Yeah, noticed that when I went to investigate this earlier. It’s most unsettling. :O
I’m hearing a very lovely string piece playing as I’m running around LA, one I can’t recall hearing before. Is it new, or something I just missed before?
Well, I guess I should join the “FemCharr” parade. Meet Thyra Wrathbringer. She’s level 35 and with my mesmer and thief both at 80, she’s next on the leveling list.
Bear in mind that your Charr is a young one, nearly fresh from the farhar, she leads a warband but is only just now getting some experience of full-on war. She’s learning and growing, getting to know the world around her and the threats that menace it. She’s on a hero’s journey alongside…a shrubbery (oops, did I type that out loud?)…but for all that she’s still a young Charr who is growing up fast. Even Rytlock Brimstone asks her, “When did you get so wise, cub?”
I’m quite fond of my warrior. She wiggles her nose just like an inquisitive kitten…then swings both axes. Her young-sounding voice tends to be the last thing those pesky undead hear.
Another crap.
There’s a nice Asuran NPC near the LA crafting stations who can give you directions, if that is what’s troubling you.
Thank goodness there’s someone around to tell me what I want from a game, I was beginning to get worried.
For my part, I’ve enjoyed the event and find it to be an improvement on the GW1 version. I’d just as soon not have those silly socks and sweaters clogging up my storage for the next year, though.
WvWvW is something I intend to get deeper into…what’s mostly holding me back is unfamiliarity with it. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it once I learn it properly. I don’t care about loot so that’s never been an issue.
Welcome. As the others have said, don’t let a few Negative Nancys discourage you. The gameworld is beautiful, the music is beautiful…you can even create a beautiful Charr character if you’ve a mind. The sky’s the limit (because it’s full of angry dragons!).
Have fun!
Don’t announce it, don’t promote it…just create another dragon champion to suddenly appear on behalf of the ED’s. Many players, myself included, love the dragon fights simply for the thrill of the battle.
To date Primordus and the “Deep Sea Dragon” don’t have champions to harass the players. How fun would it be if players were doing hearts, gathering resources, and all that good stuff just to have yet another furious dragon champion suddenly descend on them?
After all, both Zhaitan and his general Tequatl have been given a sound drubbing by players at this point, it’s time for another scaly menace to arise…
Merry Christmas to my fellow players and the Anet team. This is just a gentle reminder that the starter areas are apt to be filled with brand-new players today, who unwrapped that pretty white box for the first time this morning. This may be their very first MMO, or they may be a veteran gamer who had a family member say, “Oh, that one with the dragon on the box looks cool!” Or maybe it was on their wish list!
Whatever the case, they’re stepping into Tyria 2.0 for the first time, and they’re going to have lots of questions. How do I get here, what does this do, etc. Be a friendly fellow adventurer and help them out with their questions. Make build suggestions, give ‘em a hand if they’re stuck with a too-tough mob, and if you’re a crafter you can even help them become better equipped. Show them cool stuff like jumping puzzles that they may otherwise miss.
The payoff? You may gain a great new friend/guild member, one who will run back to his/her friends and say, “Hey, the GW2 community is awesome!” Then more new players will arrive, server populations will grow some more, and we all win.
Today is a chance for GW2 to shine, as a game and as a community. Let’s not squander it.
Easy. They’re Thundercats from Hell.
Next question?
Now I know I don’t actually see people suggest that the Carlton dance is horrible… it’s the best dance in the game. Period.
Let me help you with that.
It is horrible, and totally inappropriate for the race. Unfortunately, the suggested “Techno Viking” doesn’t look much better to me…I had to turn that off quickly. No way I’m going to sit here for four minutes watching some dude jiggle his man boobs.
Now, there must be some dance out there in the world, some cultural dance, that would fit the Norn perfectly. Anet managed it with the Charr, and they managed it with the Sylvari.
(This is all my personal opinion, you understand. Some people love the Carlton dance, but I won’t even use the /dance emote on my ranger because of that silly flailing around.)
:)
I must be an idiot. I stick around all three dragon fights until the beast drops. Rather rude to just run in and tag him, then split and leave your fellow adventurers to do the work.
That said, I think the Claw’s a bit of a coward. He pushes you away with those ice spikes as well as his fear blast. At least the Shatterer’s not afraid to have you get all up in his face.
…what were we discussing again?
That is too cute! How’d ya get on the mailing list?
Found an “evacuation kit” near the Moran Memorial just now while running around looking at all the shiny new stuff. Is this a leftover from Lost Shores, or does it indicate…need for a possible evacuation of LA? :-o
Is it best to leave the launcher running while it’s attempting to connect, or close it? I can entertain myself by watching the “phone booth” scene at the end of Airplane! while I wait, stuff like this always reminds me of that.
It’s happened to us all…sometimes when we’re playing the game for the first time, but more hilariously when our friends join us for the first time. They hear the comments uttered by our characters and if they’re unfamiliar with the game, some highly amusing misinterpretations take place.
In my case it’s in my guild’s vent, which covers a number of games…LOTRO, D3 and others in addition to GW2. We’re not that strict on the whole “stay in the channel whose game you’re playing” bit, we just go where the crowd is. Which usually means the LOTRO crowd piles in with me since I’m generally the first person online in the evenings. And they listen as Tyria’s battles unfold. When opening my mike to talk, I’ve been asked the following questions:
“For great dusters? What does that mean?”
“Did that guy just say ‘take it off’?”
“kitten!!! What was that?” (after a roar from the Shatterer)
“Whose face is funny?”
And my favorite, from Tequatl’s spawn dialogue:
“‘Back to the turrets’? Y’all have turrets, like in Portal?”
Post your gems!
If Tixx turn’s all quaggan’s into plushie’s, he may be alright in my book. :P
UberQuaggan finds your lack of respect…disturbing. :P
I’ve never really understood the appeal of halter tops on any female character in any game. We are fighting a war, we don’t have time to sashay around displaying our doodlebobbers, you pervs. Give us some good old Agent Scully trenchcoats!
Sadly, I think sometimes devs (and community managers, ironically) sometimes shy away from interacting with a game’s community due to the influence of…ah, more passionate personalities. Let us consider these folks under the banner of “crazypants”.
By crazypants I don’t mean those who are lobbying for a particular feature to be added to/removed from a game, or who are asking that a troublesome bug be fixed. We all do that, to one extent or another. What I’m talking about are those who go overboard…they become rude, insulting, or even stalky. They find out private information about other fans or studio employees and post that. Or they simply harass someone on forums or in-game. I’ve had that last happen to me personally (in another game), so I can see why it would spook Anet or any other game company, for that matter.
Now, I’m interested by community managers and their work, so I always try to chat with them if an opportunity presents itself. Do you old-time GW1 players remember Gaile Gray’s in-game visits? She (and Froggy) would appear in LA and answer questions, chat, and generally hang out. My warrior, Nikk Hexem, was named for the frontman of 311 and Gaile was very amused by that. It was fun times. But during her visits we’d see an increasing amount of nonsense questions being spammed by the ill-mannered, the uninformed, and bots for all I know. Gaile bore it all with a grace I’ve never seen matched in a game, but I expect she was a little relieved when her change of jobs brought an end to these visits.
Fast forward to last week. I had my mesmer out for one of the Shatterer’s visits and noticed people in map chat were saying an ArenaNet employee was in the vicinity. Sure enough, after “Shatty” was downed a player with the Anet logo was observed. I don’t know how other players’ interactions with him went, but I can say that my brief, polite greeting and encouraging note was replied to just as politely, then we all went on our merry ways.
Was he a dev? A community manager? The receptionist? No idea, but they’re out there. If you’re fortunate enough to encounter one, remember Kipling’s advice about a courteous tongue. It’ll get you far.
I agree, Shatterer 2.0 is a blast. I run him regularly on my mesmer for the pure fun of it. And on my server, at least, the dragons still attract many, many players. It’s a social event of its own.
And Shatterer is still my top pick for best death animation in the game.
I want to believe that the Toymaker’s intentions are benign (my mesmer is Asuran, after all)…but that smile of his.
It worries me. Inquest smile like that.
When will the BLTC start selling tinfoil hats?
Just chiming in to say I’m affected by this as well…cannot log onto my mesmer who I parked in LA, got onto my Charr warrior who’s in the BC just fine.
How odd.
I don’t think there is anything to get from OP. Just a bad star wars reference for now reason. To be fair moons aren’t darker than the sky.
When I saw that, the first thing that popped into my head was “eclipse”. The second was the, ah, “bad Star Wars reference for no reason”.
You gotta have a reason for those? Just thought I’d share, I thought it was funny.
I don’t imagine it’s easy to blow the mind of an Asuran mesmer, but Anet managed the trick quite nicely just now.
Well, played, devs. Well, played.
I am a player who doesn’t have a whole lot of time to play, but when I do so I’m enjoying it. I love the beautiful gameworld, love the challenges presented by the skill system, and especially love the lore. Gear and wealth are secondary concerns for me.
As I don’t see that covered in your chart, I’ll call this “Group Z”. And for all I know, I may be the only player in it.
That’s okay, too.
OP, if you would just get right with the quaggans and prepare for the advent of UberQuaggan, these things would not frighten you so badly.
(thumps her Quagganomicon for emphasis)
;)
UberQuaggan is coming (what do you think those “karka” critters were running from?). There is still time for you to get right with the quaggans.
I enjoyed what I was able to…but this was on account of my work schedule this past weekend, and not Anet’s fault.
I believe it was a test of sorts, and my hope is that they were able to learn quite a bit about how to arrange events like this in the future. I know a great deal of it involves coding and stuff that’s wayyyyy above my graying head, so here is hoping they’ll take ideas from LS and apply it to the next event.
Was about to make a post about this.
Haven’t gotten around to him myself, tough I’d really like to hear what they’ve changed. Can someone tell me, and add a spoiler tag for those who don’t want the experience spoiled?
He now has a ranged attack of crystal waves that knock you down and one-shot lower level players. There are many more minions that attack the mortars and the players operating them.
He gave us quite a fight this evening on GoM, we had to keep yelling at our guilds to come help because his hitpoints have likely been increased as well. He’s almost tougher than the Claw now.
Billy Mays has been resurrected…as an Asuran NPC.
Now that’s unique.
Few blues, couple greens, one yellow…nothing spectacular, but I do the dragon encounters for the thrill of the fight, not loot. Loot’s a secondary concern for me in gaming.
Because I was curious to see how the Shatterer fight was “updated”, I made a point of sticking around for the spawn last night.
WOW! No matter what else, “Barney” has certainly been beefed up. I won’t spoil it for those who have not yet tried it out, but be prepared for a much tougher Shatterer. I love it, myself…he’s always been my favorite of the three to fight.
Good on ya, Anet!
