Guardians of the Vault [GotV] and Guíld of Dívíne Soldíers [GoDS]
Gate of Madness server
That particular vista IS maddening, but if you’re stuck on something like that there are usually other players around to figure it out with, or to advise you in map chat.
And yeah…I was going to bring up the silly and fun “bunny heart” in the Norn starter zone but someone beat me to it.
“The Shatterer encounter in Blazeridge Steppes has been updated.”
I hope they made him harder!
I’m curious about this as well, but he hasn’t popped yet on my server though many inquisitive players are gathered.
EDIT: You got your wish, Zoid, he’s tougher, with a new attack, and a much longer reach.

Aren’t they gladium? Charr with no warbands?
I’ll wait until I experience it first-hand myself, before I judge. I remember (with some uneasiness, I admit) LOTRO and its disastrous “radiance” gear which they eventually shelved.
I trust ArenaNet to approach this more intelligently, however, given their track record thus far with this game.
DSD is UberQuaggan.
I’m sure of it.
Introducing Tanni Mindbender, four feet of Asuran mesmerizing fury!
I did my best to make her little and adorable, and not liking hair on an Asura in the beta I went with the bald look, with the ears as small as possible. I think it makes her look like a cute little blue-eyed space alien.
I like the kid and the Charr. He could swallow her in one bite, but instead he plays along.
The one that gets on my nerves is the Sylvari warrior who’s bragging to another Sylvari about how he’s mastered the art of war, he’s “unbreakable”, “no gentle gardener”, and “a leaf on the wind”. I say he’s a wooden box of hot air.
The gear doesn’t interest me so much as these “karka” (similar name to “kraken”, I note) creatures. My not-working-so-well-attempt-at-starting-an-UberQuaggan-cult posts aside, what are they supposed to be? Harbingers of “Bubbles”? They look genuinely scary.
Karka, huh? UberQuaggan has chosen some strange minions.
I somehow missed this when I first mapped Brisban Wildlands on my thief, but when finishing one of the heart tasks on the mesmer this evening I found this interesting tidbit in my thank-you letter.
Thoughts?
I’ve also found a lot of references to the Arenanet team.
A kid in Queensdale was talking about Destiny Edge and the book written by “Joffan Grubbe”.
There’s also Foreman Flannum.
And there’s also a norn called Kolijn Johansson, walking in Hoelbrak. He says that he’s very busy and he talks about his job.Probably more, but that’s all I remember. Those details are pretty awesome when you know Arenanet devs
There is a Charr NPC in Blazeridge Steppes named “Brinstar Keenmind”, a reference to Regina Buenaobra. I also found a cute Asuran kid named “Rubi Bayer” in Metrica Province.
I imagine Martin Kerstein, Gaile Gray and others are similarly nestled into the game, I just haven’t found ’em yet.
Has no one looked closely at the icon for the mesmer “portal” skill?
In a word…UberQuaggan.
In a few more words, perhaps something about the DSD. The content they’re teasing seems to imply that and anything that enhances the world’s lore is what’s most attractive to me.
Prepare for UberQuaggan!
That is all.
“Overwhelming majority”, my Charr’s hairy fanny! :P
As a female player, all but one of my characters are female and the lone male is a Charr, I chose his gender because it suits the name I picked out for him. Many of my male guildmates choose female humans because they (by their own admission) like to ogle the pretty girls, but my attention is focused on the environment around me, not my character.
Just logged on with my Asuran mesmer…the whales are indeed gone. Also, although I had read that one of the Asura gates in Corolis (sp?) Plaza had become active, none of them were.
In any event, it’s further evidence of the approach of UberQuaggan.
Are YOU ready?
I hope to see the story of the Mursaat resolved, but as this update seems to revolve around the sea (hence my fondness for my half-serious “UberQuaggan” theory), I wouldn’t look for it here.
Also, didn’t the ancestors of our human characters all but wipe the race out in EotN? Between that and the battles that were waged against them in the “War in Kryta” mini-campaign, they must by now be an endangered species. I hope I’m wrong on that count, though.
Maybe they don’t WANT to go back… i mean, whatever’s in the water must be pretty scarey for the whales to take their chances on land with the rest of us
Methinks that, before all this is said and done, we’re going to see “Bubbles”, Tequatl, and the entire krait nation also scrambling for dry land along with the whales. A hard rain’s gonna fall on you Quaggan haters.

Friends, I had a flash of insight while eating a ham and cheese sammich today. The creature depicted on the LA warning posters can only be UberQuaggan, the Quaggan of Quaggans. All you Quaggan haters out there had better get your moa chicks in a row while there is still time, for the hour of judgement draweth near!
When I told my newly minted Charr necromancer about all this, he responded by muttering Ph’nglui mglw’nafh Cthulhu R’lyeh wgah’nagl fhtagn then scrambling up the nearest tree.
Are we so sure we want to know?
I doubt it, Sprawl. I’ve started building up my mesmer now that my thief is 80, and Queensdale is almost as lively as it was during launch. Not quite at the point where overflow servers come into play, but nearly.
And no, those weren’t bots hanging out with my little Asura. Not unless they’re now being programmed to shout “FML” in /say when downed.
Well, people always get their bloomers in a bunch about “spoilers”. I just noted the pumpkin icons all over the map after arriving in Lion’s Arch and decided to check out the one near…um…that place I like to craft in Queensdale.
(pauses to get more coffee)
Claypool, that’s it. Next thing I was in a zerg killing Halloween critters and picked up nearly an entire level’s worth of experience, but then was too sleepy to continue. Fun stuff.
:)
I haven’t completed Act 1, but can get into the Mad King’s realm with no trouble. Are we sure it’s a requirement?

Since launch, GW2 has run smooth as silk on my machine, even during WvWvW zergs and very graphics-intensive moments.
However, tonight I joined up with a bunch of folks in Frostgorge Sound to down the Claw of Jormag and experienced three disconnects (the first of these was before the dragon even spawned) and well as LOTRO-like lag. Several other players reported similar issues, and a few were even blaming the bots that run through the area…though I only noticed one pack of these.
For comparison, I also fought Barney (the Shatterer) and Taco (Tequatl) with no trouble whatsoever. This was on the Gate of Madness server, btw.
Any of you on other servers experiencing such issues, and do we know what’s causing them?
In the meantime, a Norn strolled in, snickered at the need for ladders, and changed the lightbulb.
Then proceeded to drink to her own legend growing, and went serenely on her way. At least, that’s how my ranger would handle it.
;)
Hmm, I work in retail.
I don’t know who would laugh harder…the customers seeing a salesperson dodge rolling to avoid an awkward situation, or my chiropractor when I explain to him how I sprained my back.
:)
Hmm, so many, so many…
Diving underwater in Godslost Swamp and realizing those ancient stones are all that remains of the Temple of the Ages.
There’s a few Charr NPC’s just east of the Black Citadel roasting a pig on a spit, and arguing about whether it’s done or not. Nearby there are some BL traders with assistants chattering at them.
Several people have mentioned Divinity’s Reach. In one district with distinctly Elonian architecture, there’s this poor sap saddled with the name “Halan Fromanj” who’s trying to strike up a conversation with a nearby woman. I don’t know whether he’s hitting on her or simply the most socially awkward NPC ever, but the results are hilarious.
People are very nice about rezzing one if the unthinkable happens, even when one is underleveled for an encounter as my thief is for the Claw’s fight.
Pushing 45 here, and I have guildmates who are older.
Where’s my Geritol?
:)
For me it’s the thrill of the fight rather than loot that attracts me. The Shatterer is particularly fun, with the way he flies around rawwwring between fights and the earthquakes that erupt in the area.
And these critters are impressive. I’ve even had a family member watch over my shoulder during a battle with Tequatl (“Taco”, as he’s known on my server) and say, “Wow!”
Also, I believe many mobs have the ability to call others within a certain range…you’ll even hear them. The skritt yell “many skritts help!” the risen cry “more, come here!” and so on. And more often than not, if there are other mobs nearby they will come running.
It was quite an adjustment for me coming from LOTRO with its “blind mob” aggro range, where you can swat a warg on its hairy fanny before it notices you.
:)
On my end it showed an hour warning (I was in a personal story instance), and didn’t boot me until I exited the instance.
Bravo, Anet!
:)
I’ve always wondered if the Charr don’t have their roots in Larry Niven’s Kzinti race from the “Known Space” series. The Kzinti are basically Charr in space…or, as I like to call them, Thundercats from Hell.
:)
I’ve had one in the last week, which is a vast improvement!
I’ve rezzed many an NPC I’ve come across, so it’s only fair.
;)
Really. Wow (pun intended)…I would have thought a public figure would show a little more restraint, knowing behavior like that is going to be scrutinized. Interesting.
As to the trailer…good points. Personally I’d settle on the Gamescom 2011 trailer as a means of showing the game off to the uninitiated. I’m just curious to what happened to this trailer which was heavily hyped then shot down by the fanbase.
I imagine the worst part about making games is that you have to make them for gamers.
Funny, and likely true!
First of all, welcome to the forums. Excellent first post.
And I agree. A guildmate and I were discussing this very thing last night. He moonlights in another guild whose whole world seems to rotate around WvWvW, and as far as they’re concerned the game is “dead”. We can’t figure out how anyone could possibly get bored in GW2 when there is so much to do and enjoy. Sure, some things are glitched, but they’ll eventually be fixed…there’s plenty to do in the meantime. It boggles the mind.
But you’re always gonna have people like that. Just disregard them and get on with having a blast.
:)
Otherwise known as Our Time is Now ? You remember—firewalking, lady in a long dress morphs into a Norn warrior, Zhaitan has a cameo at the end?
I can’t even find it on the official website anymore. But has anyone noticed it on TV (I’m not a TV viewer, myself) or elsewhere? I know the community’s reaction was nonplussed, but Anet sunk some money, time, and work into producing that trailer and it seems strange that they’d drop it so quickly.
The reason I brought it up was when I heard of the Maine congresswoman who was panned by her opponents for having online gaming as a hobby, I thought of the trailer. I always rather suspected the trailer’s message was that it’s okay to let the world know you’re a gamer, but that’s just my take on it.
As Alyssa said, your login screen will display the banner for whichever order you joined. But even without that, your order figures prominently in your personal storyline. At least that’s the case with Whispers; I imagine it’s the same with the other two.
(I fully plan on joining and playing through the storylines for all three.)
:)
My thief definitely doesn’t think too much of him…she had to rez him about three times during “The Ringmaster”.
;)
Absolutely. I can’t remember the last time I got so much enjoyment out of a game. Well worth the wait, well worth the money.
:)
Another vote for Tybalt here (or “Tybs”, as my guildmate calls him). First smiling charr I’ve met.
:)
What the frack is Hodor?
Hodor is a character is George R. R. Martin’s “Song of Ice and Fire” books, he also appears in the Game of Thrones miniseries. He’s a large, simple-minded stableboy whose only word is his name…“Hodor”.
The OP’s amusing point is that Logan is a bit on the dim side, which I’m inclined to agree with. And I can tell I need to brush up on several topics, including Edge of Destiny. I’ve read it, but clearly I need to read it again.
:)
I may just be spoiled by XenForo, but it would really be nice to at least track threads you were active in and be able to jump to the first new post since you were last on.
You can. Just click on your name and hit the “find all posts by” option that pops up.
I like the design very much, somehow it’s much easier on the eyes than other forum designs. Not all of us are young gamers, dontcha know!
The one thing I miss is a “new posts” button. In gaming, if I happen to get inexplicably booted or experience some other sudden technical issue, I’ll think “I wonder if anyone else is experiencing this” and go to the game’s official forum to see. At times like that a “new posts” button is helpful.
:)
The only thing that troubles me is the way the characters’ eyes seem to shift to the middle of the screen during their conversations. It’s most noticeable with my human thief.
Have the Asura invented teleprompters yet?
:)
Good post, and good points.
This is why it occurred to me that it might behoove Anet to post a general “How to recognize a bot” guide here someplace. I know the more respectable fansites already have these up. Nonsensical names, repetitive behavior, the absence of guild affiliation, and so on. Between what they already know and the information we’ve been providing in our reports, I’m sure they could compile a good guide to educate us all and protect innocent players.
Just a thought.
:)
Fixed a bug that caused charr characters to enter a state where any fall resulted in a long falling yell.
My warrior thanks you. She found that quite undignified.
:)
Apart from being an exceedingly ugly mob in a region full of the same. To me they sort of resemble an unfinished griffin, but it’s hard to get a look because one is always fighting them.
I love Hrathi Hinterlands, btw. The constant mayhem of the centaur battles is a hoot.
:)
The cities in GW2 are immense, beautiful, and like nothing I’ve ever seen in a game before. The Black Citadel is confusing at first, but slip on a pair of headphones and take in all that’s happening while you’re picking up all those POI’s. It really is very well done.
