I’m having a blast. I love the wide open mayhem of the invasion battles. And it’s not a bad way to earn coin, either. 
I enjoyed the story, and I even think the timing of its release was right; we wondered who Scarlet was, now we know.
One of my problems with it is the involvement of the Flame Legion. As we know, they don’t even allow female charr any sort of liberty. So it seems odd that they’d be willing to align with a female “twig”.
The invasion events themselves are a blast, I love ’em.
I’ve been “destroying” them for that reason. Also, I had the vague idea that there was some kind of achievement for it, though I don’t see anything on my achievement panel.
…one thing I’d consider is removing the cost of waypoints completely for characters who have 100% map completion. This would provide more motivation for said completion, and also ease things up for those of us who are doing a lot of waypoint-jumping. When we’re chasing battles against Scarlet, for example.
Just throwing that out there.
Whatever this is all about, it’s doing exactly what it should be doing…keeping us interested in the game, and the story behind it.
Now, then: Hands up everyone who’s running off to different parts of the gameworld looking for “clues”!
This is bringing back fond memories of Obey vs. Dismantle in GW1, and as such I love it because that was a fun marketing gimmick IMO.
Yeah, that was a great time. We were looking for clues everywhere. I remember posting jokingly that an Anet employee could type “kumquat” and we’d all go nuts looking for the hidden meaning, and Martin Kerstein immediately posted “KUMQUAT”.

I did that this evening, and was rewarded by the bizarre sight of pinipals falling out of the sky to attack the balloon emissary I was escorting.

I’ll share what was said by not just anybody, but a dev who sometimes visits dynamic events on GoM and chats with players.
He said that most people seem to prefer the Abaddon fractal, and was disappointed by that because “now nobody will know the truth about the reactor explosion…except us!” “Us” being Anet.
Some of us were intrigued by that and started to question him more closely, but then Tequatl exploded out of the nearby water and of course that put an end to any conversation.
Coincidence?
I’m not troubled by it now that I know it’s a bug with the vambraces (I was afraid it was a symptom of an oncoming graphics card death).
It’s not like the mobs my thief stealths to escape can tell the difference.
LOL. I liked “Ledge Potato” best. But to be fair, I’ve sometimes seen the occasional visiting Anet dev occupying that ledge to chat with players. Must be a good place to chat from.
This is a thread I have started on my own guild’s forums, but also wish to share with the entire GW2 community. It’s a variation on a Rich Hall skit from Not Necessarily the News , which ran during the Eighties.
The premise is simple enough; there are many things both in game and in the gaming community which are..well, undefinable. We attempt, with imagination and not a little humor, to define them. Here are what my guildies and I have come up with thus far:
Bookah Breakdown:The dance performed by human characters trying to scale Asuran buildings in an attempt to reach vistas.
Cattlepulter: That random guy you can always find in Diessa Plateau trying to reach Moorwatch Tower using the Cattlepult. Also applies to all of those that waste their money placing bets on how far a cow will make it when Mad Mardine decides to have some fun firing cows using said device.
Corpseturds: The toxic…um, stuff…that drops from Tequatal’s wings.
Crystal Methed: When you are crystallized by Subject Alpha in Crucible of Eternity, and remain in stasis even after the crystal surrounding you has been destroyed.
Ehmargerd! Alpha’s lost his script!: When you manage to glitch the Crucible of Eternity so hard that you get Test Subject Alpha so confused that he just doesn’t know in which way he should fight you each time you face him.
Gimmemanium: The free-for-all that erupts in map chat whenever ArenaNet broadcasts the message that “A new build is available, your game will restart in three minutes.” It happens around world chest events, precipitated by players who fear the game will boot them before they can reap the rewards of the event (OMG HURRY UP!!!).
Glinker: The faint but unmistakable sound of aggro dropping, like a marble in an empty jar.
Jumpin’ Jack Noob: The one player at every major world event (such as the Shadow Behemoth or one of the dragons) who simply cannot be still. They leap about, cast skills randomly, murder innocent ambient wildlife along with any nearby mobs, and fire cannons at nothing.
Ledge Potato: The stereotypical extremely lazy player that is always online yet always standing in front of the bank in Lion’s Arch doing nothing but PvC (player vs chat), randomly dancing, trolling, spamming emotes, looking sexy or actually quietly AFK. They usually think they have a lot of friends.
Luke Ledgewatcher: The NPC at the Claw of Jormag event who is continually admonishing players to “watch the ledges”.
PoO-Ba-DOo-Er: That little lazy son of a guild that you can always find every time you run a bounty for your guild, offering to go track Poobadoo the Quaggan Boss, just because he’s feeling lazy, or to annoy other people, everyone has done it at least once! note: Can only be redeemed by becoming the Trickssy-Trekkser at least twice for the guild!
*Premature Explosion: A rather embarrassing mishap experienced by the Shatterer, when he springs into the air at the end of his fight and explodes rather than flying a short distant away, then exploding.
Quid Pro Fro: An Asura sporting the “afro” hairstyle.
Rawrette’s Syndrome: A speech impediment suffered by the Charr. It causes all of them, even the loveable Tybalt Leftpaw, to snarl when speaking.
Spin ’n Smoke: The rotating smokestacks atop Charr buildings.
Weebird: The bird that flies overhead whenever one levels or recieves mail.
My guildies Beleeth and TheMagicTouch contributed a couple of those.
By all means, however, feel free to jump in with any of your own! I will be watching this post and editing to post new entries and credit their contributors.

I wonder this as well. I see people shouting “Mesmer is now useless” (which I don’t think is the case) since the last big patch, but I’ve been so busy reworking my thief I haven’t had much time for my mesmer.
Until last night, when I tried her out in a dungeon and…well, things have clearly changed. Googled “Mr Prometheus” to see if he’s still active and found this thread.
Is it time for an APB? Do we need to send our clones out looking for him?

My thief spent a frustrating hour last night trying to get at the thing, to no avail. Is there any truth to the rumors that the “warp” is actually a dev watching players approach, then shoving them back while cackling madly?
Oh, I don’t mean whoever crashed the effigy ceremony last night. I’m talking about whoever is developing the Living Story content. It’s something that’s been in the back of my mind since the introduction of the LS, but now I really am curious. I’ve come to the following conclusions:
My only criticism is the voice acting for the aforementioned Canthan character. Having her talk like Philip Marlowe was a little jarring.
Looking forward to seeing what else Dragon Bash brings!
They don’t just carry mail, ya know. They carry levels. Next time you level a character watch one sail happily over your head as he drops your new level on you.

The wiki describes the Aetherblades as “sky pirates”.
So either they worship the dragons and are offended by the effigy ceremony, or the waterways of Tyria are so overcrowded by pirates some of them had to take to the air.
Our engineers have identified what was causing the issue and they made changes to address it. This problem should be resolved for now, but they will keep an eye on it.
If the “Connection errors detected. Retrying” problem persists, please post again in this thread.
If you are reporting about some other problem (such as lag, etc.) please use a different thread.

Same problem occurring for me as well, and unlike last time flushing my dns doesn’t seem to help.

And don’t forget your trusty shortbow. I keep my sword, pistol, and dagger all handy, but that bow can be a lifesaver.
That said, if there’s anyone out there who can direct us returning thieves to some decent PvE builds, I’d be grateful.

Fields of Ruin: Wasps near tkittenonhawke delegation are now the same level as other wildlife in the area.
I can see where some of the Charr might consider “Ebonhawke” a swear word, but rather odd to see it getting censored here.

Anybody besides me finding it amusing that we’re celebrating the defeat of the “Molten Alliance” with, um…a huge fire?
Well, those characters are (apparently) facing down Zhaitan in Orr, as you can see from the nearby structures. So I doubt they have anything to do with the Living Story in its current phase. Given the overall response to that trailer I think everyone’s trying to forget it.
That said, there are large chunks of the gameworld (such as Divinity’s Reach) that I hope will be brought into play, further up the road.

As others have said before me, I just want to take a moment to thank ArenaNet for the best April Fools’ update ever. I have a few guildmates who had wandered back to other games who were sitting with me in vent last night when I started babbling happily away about a “super adventure box”. Now they’re updating and very curious.
A lot of work and talent went into this content. And though I’ve seen nothing about it yet, I rather suspect some of the inspiration came from Ernest Cline’s Ready Player One. But in any event, you’ve outdone yourselves, ArenaNet.
Things like this make GW2 worth every penny I paid for it.
I suppose I’ll join the “I can’t log in” dance. Also showing error code 42:6:3:2158, if that helps.

Welcome to thievery!
At the top of this subforum you’ll see a thread stickied where people have posted the builds that work best for them. This changes all the time with updates but that’s what makes a game like this fun.
Also, this site is quite useful, you can actually “build” your thief and get a rough idea of DPS, suvivability, and other things you’ll want to take into account. My advice is to experiment with all the weapon combos; that’s something I’m still doing myself.
