Maguuma is the only tier 3 server to have never openly recruited. That should say something about our culture versus other servers’ cultures.

Ya, it’s a pretty lame tier. My only hope for the future of wvw here is that eventually FA and DB get tired of being zerg servers and start actually doing roaming pvp and maybe eventually learn how to compete.

Last night maguuma tried to portal bomb us x3 from Mendon’s when the wall was about to go down. It was terrible.
1) The portal bomb went down IN FRONT of all our guys, not on our siege. Hence I was able to put a circle of warding right in front of the first portal bomb and knock every single of of you on your butts. You systemically got destroyed by aoe.
2) You used all of your guys for the portal bomb, so when we got into Mendon’s there was no one but NPCs there, and two guys who stayed back.
I don’t get why you didn’t just build ballistas and hold the choke and then flank us from behind, but you know who really cares lol. It’s a lot of bags of loot for me anyhow.
If DB wasn’t playing for 2nd I think they could actually challenge FA. That would make the match interesting.

Not particularly. DB can barely hold its own during the daytime. They get really strong in about 5AM-early afternoon (eastern time) when their asian guilds like NNK log on, but otherwise they’re on mag’s level for most of the rest of the day, and only because we are focusing you guys more than them (it’s not like they actually try to take SMC during the daytime like you guys, LOL)

if he hits you in the front and doesent get the high damage backstab it still says backstab in the combat log
I know. She got a frontal backstab (that most likely didn’t even crit).
This screenshot was taken about 40 seconds after the battle. You can see my f2 still on cooldown from when I used it.
I made a lot of mistakes in this battle. My passive aegis blocked her steal but then I got hit with a couple of autoattacks and C&D AND a backstab (although she landed a frontal backstab). As you can see I didn’t pop f3 (aegis) like I should have to block the C&D, in fact I was so slow she got those autoattacks on me at first.
Hammer 5 hammer 4 hammer 2 greastword 3 greatsword 2. You know I actually miss two of these hits, namely hammer 4 and greatsword 3. Hammer 4 takes a long time to channel as well so that was a big mistake on my part. A few seconds later, she gets ANOTHER C&D off me (it hits for 3k) but I hit her with hammer 2 for 4k and she goes down.
I’m definitely not glass but I’m definitely not bunker either. I’m pretty balanced all things considered for a guardian, and moreover you can see two consecrations on my utility bar. (Neither was used. SYG was used tho, for the retal on her autoattacks). Oh and I never even dodged.
In other words AOE rules, keep turning to avoid backstabs in the back, and CC the thief. They’re definitely beatable 1v1 (in fact I’ve never lost 1v1’s vs glass d/d thieves, although i’ve never killed a bunker and condition thieves have ruined my day before). They’re not in need of a major nerf, but I do agree with minor adjustments (nerfs) on the D/D build.
Here’s another protip for those fighting thieves:
Keep moving. It’s kinda difficult for a thief to land a backstab on a guy who keeps moving and keeps rotating and looking around. Heartseeker on high health targets will waste initiative and not really do much for said thief.
Also basilisk venom is an ELITE and can be stunbroken. Bring a stunbreaker. If you don’t, you’re just asking for death against people who can CC.
I play a guardian who runs at 16.5k Hp with 3000 armor (screenshot shows 17.6k cause of our wvw buffs), which in terms of durability is pretty bad. 15k HP, if you know, is the base HP of mesmers/engis/rangers.
These are general tips, and I think heartseeker shouldn’t be spammed as much (damage reduction for high health targets, maybe increase for lower health, switch places with death blossom maybe) and culling needs to be fixed, but otherwise they’re not THAT OP. 1 thief taking out multiple people is very much an anomaly and not the norm.
Oh, and this I found hilarious. C&D doing over 3x times the damage of backstab.

1) It’s culling dude. Again, roll a thief in sPVP where there is no culling. I promise you it’s nowhere near as easy for them to kill you (also there’s the issue of 50% less maximum crit damage in sPVP but still)
2) You didn’t lose, you just didn’t win. The only way you would lose is if you died, but you didn’t. Again, roll a thief and learn how the mechanics of the thief work.
those who think thieves are overpowered should roll one in sPVP and get back to us on it. (Lv 80 guard and ranger, lv 2 thief)
The problem is culling, not thief mechanics. Altho bunker thieves are very difficult to kill.

After you wiped 4 times, cleared all our siege with mortars, failed two portals, and over half of us went to do something else? Yeah, I guess you can brag about mindlessly throwing hordes of badges and bags at us until we had to drop a merchant.
We had 20 people portalling into 50. Oh, and when we finally wiped you, there were well over 30 bodies lying on the ground. So what you’re saying when you mention that “over half the people left” was that you were winning esentially 4v1’s beforehand. Yeah, great tactics there.
Also I made 2g+ and made a completed another stack of badges that night. Visited the merchant 3 times to clear out my inventory, so let’s be fair when you talk about farming badges.

Theres a big red circle to help point it out for you. If you can’t see it and your only argument is “the place is too big!”

I love it when thief players defend their profession with most ridiculous comparisons and use the term “learn 2 play”.
Stealth is utterly broken, especially in WvWvW. Stealth = unfun for all those who are not using it. WvWvW would be better with the stealth and teleportation mechanisms completely removed or reworked.
GW2 has game mechanisms similar to FPS game. Now imagine a FPS game, where there are several professions. One profession, let’s call it infiltrator, can become invisible when he wants and no enemy action can reveal him from invisibility. Even if infiltrator walks into a cloud of smoke or enters water or enemy makes him bleed like hell, infiltrator is still invisible. And enemy with a rifle cannot even target him. While he is invisible the rifle bullets just don’t hit him even if you guess his exact location. He also does huge damage, his attacks are blindingly fast and he can teleport as well, move 50% faster while being invisible. Then we have another profession, let’s call it soldier, who has better armor, higher health, but his high damage attacks are slowly telegraphed and very easily dodged. Would this game be balanced? Hell NO.
Let’s give the soldier class grenades, rockets, and the ability to call in airstrikes (infiltrator obviously will not have this ability).
Oh and limit the infiltrator to melee, and give him a ranged option that offers far lower burst but better sustained damage.
I think that comparison works out better. But seriously, l2p. Backstab thief is a very gimmicky build, kind of like hundred blades warrior. Just AOE or Area CC the thief to death. Ground target abilities are also awesome.
And also all channeled skills follow thief in stealth. Just for example, volley from warriors. Certain other things follow thief into stealth as well, like binding blade. Also, you can burst down a glass cannon thief as quickly as he can burst you down.
Pretty fun day in Eternal today. A lot of great fights with FA.

Yes actually i did because i don’t need to read the same thing the thief community repeats over and over again because they are just so good at the game and every one else needs to learn to play.
I’m a GUARDIAN. And yes you DO need to l2p. Dodging is something you do against all classes. Trapping them in melee is something you do against ALL classes. It’s not exclusive to fighting thieves.
your advice is impractical. with perma stealth, it’s nearly impossible to target thieves. also thieves have much higher run speed.
Thieves dont have a higher default run speed. You have no idea what you’re talking about. They can equip signet of shadows to increase it but it costs a utility slot.
Thieves also cannot perma stealth if they intend to attack. Those who spec into it are mostly useless outside of scouting. Yes, they’re useless for killing anything but other glass cannons as well. And even then as soon as they attack they get revealed, which prevents them from restealthing.

I play a guardian and basically if i don’t go for a full bunker build thieves will take off 10K hp instantly stealth, regen, do it again and kill me. The problem isn’t the gear it’s the people working on class balance. They flat out suck at it. There are a few classes that do just way to much DPS and and have way to many ways to escape or defend themselves and a few that do next to no damage unless they give up all defense and go total glass cannon. The class balance in this game is horrifically bad and if you listen to the state of the game video and Jon Sharp and Jon Peters it’s no surprise.
You need to improve your gameplay. I dont get killed by Zerkerthiefs and also play a Guardian.

I’m only singling out thieves because they are the most grossly over powered class in the game. Other classes like rangers and eng’s are severely under powered. Again it goes back to my original point, the class balance in this game flat out sucks !
My advice to you is to play a thief before complaining.
Also you should be able to kill a GC DD thief as fast as he kills you. Teh reason being? GC thieves are really REALLY glassy. greatsword 5 follows the thief even if he’s in stealth. Save gap closers for when he unstealths, and hammer 2 OR hammer 5 then hammer 2 for right after he stealths. That thief’s main skill rotation is “use up burst, escape, return to finish job after initiative recharges”. If you mitigate his burst (not that hard to do, just dodge, and aegis will block the first attack anyways; which usually is backstab— he can’t exactly put up a sustained attack so if you AVOID his damage he’s completely useless for the next 10 seconds he needs for his initiative to recharge). And if you pressure him with those simple area CC skills that I swear every single class has, well unless he’s a very GOOD thief (in which case you would deserve to lose) you actually shouldn’t take much damage cause he’s be trying to escape.
TL;DR backstab thief goes burst escape wait burst, Interrupt that rotation by staying on him and gg.

Easiest solution is to abandon this idiotic Glicko system and just let 1st place advance, 2nd stay, and 3rd move down every week. I don’t understand how they can’t see their Glicko system is terrible and leads to stale matchups.

There are a whole host of problems to this. The first being that the second place server would always punish the third place server instead of the bottom two double teaming the first like it’s supposed to be.

You definitely have more than 12 active members. I saw a 20 man AoN group wipe half our EB population near WC run a few days ago.
I have run with AoN in the past while they were on Maguuma and I sometimes still run with them now on an alt account. I am still a member of their guild and though I remain on Maguuma I can guarantee you they have NEVER run a 20 man. At most they may have run 12 or 13 at once but that is extremely rare.
In fact, Convenant is very particular about running too many people because it starts to feel too zergy and most of the AoN members don’t enjoy doing that. A few days ago in Eternal (if it was when I was running with them) there may have been 8 or 9 people total and nowhere close to a 20 man.
Well there were definitely 20+ people there but a lot of them may have been PuGs…I suppose so.

You see if zerg vs zerg was actually a big problem most people would avoid zerg vs zerging, but they don’t, ergo it’s not really a problem that will kill gw2.
I disagree with all of you. There is a difference between making things challenging and making things impossible.
It’s not impossible to
1) organize 50 PvE players who need that point and make a push
2) help your own server out during their peak hours
3) pony up the cash to transfer.
Furthermore, why are there jumping puzzles in WvW? I spent two and a half hours of my life trying to do the jumping puzzle at Eternal Battlegrounds.
This gets complained about a lot, but basically I don’t want you getting free siege to kill me with later on, so I tolerate people who kill enemies in the JP.
Me personally? I’m rarely in the jumping puzzle and I don’t attack unless attacked, but I am perfectly fine with people who gank in jumping puzzles. (Just as long as there aren’t like 30+ sitting in there using up our queue spots)
I seem to be one of the only people in this game that just got their 100% world completion without transferring >:
Dragonbrand typically does extremely extremely well during their peak hours, where they tend to take the vast majority of the map (I’ve seen 500+ ppt many mornings I wake up, eastern time btw)
At this point I have to ask you Teamkiller… You understand that in addition to everything else, many of the folks from OG are notorious at saying things that they don’t necessarily mean, just to keep a debate going… right?
