Animosity between Necromancers.

Alright, I’ve been following this forum for about ONE MONTH now and I’m starting to see this… some of you think that if you don’t run ONE SPECIFIC BUILD you have no idea how to play a proper necromancer.

WRONG!

These builds, although not as strong as others, are still synergetic builds:

Well-o-mancer (my fave)
Conditionmancer
Fear-o-mancer
Minion Master
Death Shroud focused Mancer
Sigil Mancer
Spectromancer
Powermancer

What else is there? Oh ya, any other build that someone might ENJOY playing.

Seriously, I’ve tried plenty of builds and I go w/ the one I ENJOY playing. So someone is particularly more inclined to head towards pvp or pve. Good for that person! I hope they test out different builds until they can find one they enjoy playing!

But seriously, some of you (not mentioning names) need to cool it. Newbies and pros alike always need help and the minute you think you know it all, you don’t. Those who say they know it all, stay away from them, they’re bad teachers.

And if any of you get angry when someone else criticizes your build, you’re in the wrong. It means you’re full of yourself. STFU and listen to their criticism. (Ya, I said that, get mad.) It’ll only make your stubborn rear-end better in the end.

Here’s to all the newbies joining the site: Hope you learn knew things and find enjoyment from the Necromancer class! Lots of fun!

well bombing necro build?

Tried it. Sux hard, imo. Casting wells don’t build up your DS and the enemies are too few in between (unlike in WvW) that they’re not more than one or two seconds standing in your pool. I did this in a test run of 5 games. Well-o-mancers are BAD in s/t pvp, but they are great in WvW as there are clusters of enemies and too much going on to pay attention to what’s under their feet.

Well-o-mancer on s/t pvp = bad.
Well-o-mancer on wvw = FUN!

Oh, and my main build is Well-o-mancer so you’ll get the best advice from players who play it frequently (don’t trust necro users who sound full of themselves… shhh, not saying any names, but one of them replied to your thread).

Try the FotM Fear build. Pretty much any trait that buffs your Fear. I use it in s/t pvp and it’s a lot of fun! Even in a down state you can kill the enemy.

Try the FotM Fear build. Just do a search on it. Pretty much anything w/ Fear trait, get it.

I run it on my s/t pvp necro build, lots of fun and tons of duration time/dmg on Fear!

I am definitely working on the precursor scavenger hunt, but like others have said, things like this take time and I want to get it right. Not to mention, it’s not the only thing on my plate. Please do not expect to see the precursor scavenger hunt in the next patch. I may be awesome, but I am still only human and this is a fairly large amount of work to get done and done right. My current disagreements w/ this build w/ possible improvements:

Great build! However, there’s a few things I would change about this build.

1. Change (2) Spiteful Talisman to (6) Reaper’s Might

You’re going for most power, right? Your build is built around more might, yes? With Reaper’s Might, every auto-attack you do in DS adds 1 stack of might… meaning the average time in DS can have you well over 7+ stacks of might when you LEAVE DS… meaning your normal skills will boost in damage. Every auto-attack you do in DS, the DS auto-attacks get stronger as well.

2. Change (8) Signet Power to (10) Chill of Death

Why would you use a trait that gives yourself 3 stacks of might for 10s when BiP grants 10 stacks of might for 15s? This makes no sense to me. Lose the Signet of the Locust and switch to BiP.

Chill of Death casts Spinal Shivers on a foe when they hit 25% health. Since your primary off-hand is a focus, wouldn’t that be more synergy for your build? Spinal Shivers chills the target and removes three boons… some mobs/players trait line give a boon when they reach 25% health… meaning it’s removed and they’re chilled as soon as they hit 25% health.

3. Change (5) Staff Mastery to (9) Death Shivers.

Are you trying to kite or are you trying to do face-to-face dps. If you’re trying to kite, then Staff Mastery is great, but this build is more about switching to your dagger to take advantage of the possible Sigil of Bloodlust or dual Dagger/Focus Crest of the Soldier bonus.

Death Shiver applies vulnerability for 10s every 3s to nearby foes while in DS. Not only does this have more synergy w/ RM from your Spite trait line (as you have to go into DS to take advantage of the might gain), but vulnerability has more synergy w/ your Well of Suffering as well… adding 1 stack of vulnerability every 3s that last 4s longer than your Well of Suffering (only 6s). Remember that vulnerability increases the damage the target receives by 1%. More vulnerability stacks = more dps gain from all your might.

4. Change (1) Dagger Mastery to (8) Ritual Mastery

Although I run a well-o-mancer and this is one of the best major traits to have for well-o-mancers, it also helps any build out doing wells and here’s why:

While Dagger Mastery’s 15% boost in recharge looks promising, it only decreases Life Siphon’s 12s recharge to 10 1/4s and Dark Pact’s 25s recharge to 21 1/4s. At best you’re only getting 3 3/4s off of cooldown for the longest of fights.

However, w/ Ritual Mastery’s 20% boost in recharge, your wells go from 45s down to 36s. That’s a 9s drop compared to a little under a 4s drop in your main skills. Plus your Dark Pact has a 25s recharge rate by default so it doesn’t put you too far behind a 36s well compared to a 45s well in a long fight.

5. Switch from 25/0/25/20/0 to 20/0/25/25/0.

I don’t understand why you would want a pessimistic trait over an optimistic trait. By that I mean the descriptions:

Siphoned Power – Gain might when hit and under 25% health.
Blood to Power – Deal 5% more damage while your health is above 90%.

Isn’t the object of being a juggermancer survivability? Most burst damage is held within the first 5s of a fight. Your skills/traits should help boost as much initial burst damage done to the enemy… meaning you’re over 90% health. As the fight goes on, you shouldn’t ever reach 25% health if you’re kiting properly… so SP is a waste of a trait. If you’re ever going under 25% health as a juggermancer you’re doing it wrong!

I did a quick test (not w/ full AC gear) and my data came out to the following:

Prior to BtP bonus:
2028 Overall Power

After BtP bonus:
2118 Overall Power

I then re-traited to see the overall power I would get if I switched back to 25/0/25/20/0 and it came out to 2078 Overall Power.

Remember that the most damage done in a fight is the INITIAL BURST DAMAGE. Congratz to me for doing almost 40 more damage outside of stacks of might/vulnerability. BtP is still the better choice!

Not only that, but the increase in Blood Magic will increase your overall EHP… increasing your overall survivability rate.


Hope this all helped. As for me I’m sticking w/ my Well-o-Mancer build as I have more fun w/ it… I hardly ever take damage as I’m constantly kiting while my Flesh Golem takes the majority of my aggro for me.

I have learned something from this guide though, so I thank you for it. It’s helped me truly understand what EHP is (thank God for mathematics) and appreciate the necromancer profession that much more than I already do.

One thing I will be changing is switching to a Condition Damage/Toughness/Vitality stat change; as they have not created any full gear w/ these traits just yet.

Hi again! I’ve finally collected all the pieces and tried the build out and it works astonishingly well in pve. However, in WvW, it lacks a bit because I can easily get someone to dying level and I’m still 3/4 health but they just run away and I can’t catch up usually bceause they dodge my dark path and spectral grasp. Any idea how to catch up?

You can always opt for a Warhorn if you’re having trouble w/ catching up. That or just time your attacks so you get the chill/immobilize.

I noticed that many of the posts say “experienced only”. I dont blame people for wanting experienced people so they can finish a run.

Yep! Decided to make my own group instead since the ones I usually make are better. I definitely put up “experienced players only plz” and I finally got a good group after two runs… the first went up to Lupi and someone quit; posted on lfg and someone showed up, we won.

Now 5 more runs… -_-

I’m doing one run a day to avoid getting too fatigued. Whether it’s a good run or not is up for random. Lupi’s only hard if you don’t know how to time your dodges and if you go in w/ a group of glass cannons.

So far I’ve done like 20 path 3 runs w/ less than half of those being able to finish to the end due to lack of experience in pug groups. Seriously, I need just 6 more GOOD runs and I just (today) got out of 3 bad pug groups in a row… always dying at Lupi.

The best group I’ve ever had was myself (Necro), one banner warrior, one ele, one thief, and one guardian… the most well-rounded group and the fastest run ever.

I’m not trying to do the group right now because I’m exhausted, but if some of you could meet me up at a specific time today to make the run… experienced players only plz, I could die happy. X_X

My idea:

I’m a necro, I need one banner warrior, one ele… the stuff above. ^ That worked so I’m sure it’ll work again.

veteran giant in orr? you do know the minions aren’t even important, right? they disappear when you kill the vet. The build was showcased to display the siphoning, regen, AoE abilities, and sustainability. You can drop a crapload of spectral juggs with that build without even moving if you go bip/epi/wos and sit in plagueform2.

I watched your video. Unless you have another one that shows a different playstyle, you’re taking WAAAY too much damage to even consider worth playing, imo. The fact that you have to use Plagueform is bad enough, imo. Plagueform is weak compared to Flesh Golem in long term use as the c/d is longer, Flesh Golem heals himself, and takes the aggro off you. Plagueform just doesn’t do as much dmg as you can w/ a staff. Imo, it’s only good in team fights as it allows your allies to not take any dmg w/ blind while they burst down the enemies. Lich Form is even better due to it’s many more skills, imo.

Any Necro not throwing Wells is only half a Necro. This is undeniable fact. You will kill slower and die more frequently without Wells in any build and in pretty much all content.

In PvE and to some degree in WvW, I can pull every single mob within range and kill them all at the same time no matter what they are. Champion, Veteran, scores of minions, does not matter. Wells destroy them all and keep me alive at the same time. My HP will rarely dip below 90% in any PvE content. It just doesn’t happen.

Ya, I have the exact same thing. Lay traps, pull mob, lay freezing well, lay whatever else, mobs down to 25% health before they can even touch you.

Instead of salvaging rares you craft, ask which ones will give you money selling. This way, when you sell it, you get enough money to buy ectos.

OP, the Master gather items are always worse than Ori items. When you meet the lvl req to buy Ori items, stick to Ori items. Master then goes garbage.

It’s funny to see people posting terms like Pay 2 Win, when the Legendaries in question are the same max stats of other fully available Exotics (and soon to be Ascended).

Mostly they are just too jealous that they’ll never be able to afford to make one, let alone buy one. Jealously tends to make people rage at Anet.

^ See? At least some ppl are smart around here. For a while I thought I was the only one who knew this.

Jealousy is bad guys. Just have patience and you’ll get your legendary… just in a year timeframe, not in a week timeframe.

If someone wants to sell a BOE item, let them have the ability to do so freely. They’re the ones that worked their butt off for the item, what gives anyone the right to tell them what they can or cannot do w/ a BOE item?

That sounds like our govt. telling us how to live our lives under a free state… oh wait… ya.

No, we don’t need any more holding of our hands. Let the Twilight stay up until either the user brings it down or it gets sold.

Every rare and up you get, check the selling price for if it costs more than an ecto. If it does, sell it. If it doesn’t, salvage it.

Also, don’t speed this through. It’s not the end of the world if it takes you one year to get a legendary. Hey, you got yours, why does it matter you get it in a week?

go 20/30/0/10/0 with full rampager gear, go D/D and work with power/condition/siphoning. You’ll feel a little more together.

very PvE oriented. With the stealth buff to parasitic bond, you’ll get even better healing and AoE than what is shown in the vid.

^ This build actually seemed rather weak compared to the wellomancer build I posted. It’s taking you WAAAAY too long to kill all those minions and you’re taking WAAAAY too much damage and kiting WAAAAY too much.

Go wellomancer, has better burst damage when everything gets off c/d. Those mobs he’s fighting I have down in half the time and I never have to run around too much.

Oh, and in party dungeon runs I always see every other Necro have a hard time keeping up their life compared to wellomancers.

I used a wellomancer for 80% of my leveling process w/ my Necro and felt very strong.

Well of Darkness will cause trait Chilling Darkness to slow them down, then throw the other two wells on top of them. Your staff will add to the AoE and make sure you keep your Flesh Golem out in front of you to take all the aggro. He also naturally heals himself so you won’t have to worry as much about any pet deaths from MM builds. Once all your AoE’s are out, switch to Dark Shroud and use 4 for even more AoE. Enjoy ez kills!

Off-hand is up to you, but I recommend the Warhorn for escape in tough situations.

The MAJORITY of patches, from what I’ve noticed, affect the gameplay that PvP has on the necro.

Because I play Wellomancer in PvE and Wells are horrible in PvP compared to other skills, imo, I wasn’t affected.

I am happy that Terror was buffed. I didn’t have it on before. Now I do.

@TheCakeIsALie- I started with a ranger in pve- switched to guardian and got to level 40- i found both ranger and guardian lacking but i had an idea that guardian/necro would work perfect together. guardian can do decent damage but they can also buff/heal a necro minion army – so you would end up with an awesome guardian leading an army of undead into battle with a necro throwing down conditions… I never found an awesome guardian to play with, but this MM build can do way more than a guardian/ranger can by himself so i stuck with it.. and I am sick of seeing so many complaints about minions on the forums. I know they don’t attack a lot of times, but if you learn what they do do and you keep an eye on them during battle you can still make them useful enough to win most 1v1s.

You didn’t answer my question. I asked if you were or weren’t trying to make a pure minion master build?

Oh, and this build is for sPvP? Then plz do us a favor and make the title say it that way. PvE and PvP are two different ball fields and I don’t run minions in either, but I do run different builds depending on if it’s PvP or PvE.

Same here everything always attacks necro! Its a bug 100% perhaps certain skills trigger it or something, tell me are you a minionmacer? For example in about 20 times I was killing Lupi he always and I mean ALWAYS, each and every time targeted me without switching to anyone trough phases 2 and 3.

No, I run a wellomancer build, but it’s like a glass cannon. My three main stats are: power, condition damage, magic find.

I had the same prob w/ Lupi. Today he kept chasing after me and killing me asap so I would have to kite him while my allies attacked. It was good that he wasn’t attacking anyone else, but it can be annoying sometime… especially when you’re low on health and DS is on cooldown.

Orichalcum jewelry is currently up to 3.5g for most of them, with the exception of opal. Considering you need 5 ectos (~1.6g,), 5 orbs (no more than 20s), and minimum 14 orichalcum ingots(dunno, ~1g?), you can make a decent profit, 70s if you buy all mats. Salvaging ectos cuts this down severely, as does ori node farming.

So yea, Jewelers right now are viable for profit.

You forgot the 15% tax. -.-
You won’t make that much profit off Oric Jewelery.

No, but after all the deductions I get a 8 – 15% return on my investment… which pretty much adds to a free gold a day if you sell properly.

Oh, and once I finish the amulet I go back into the TP to see the bottom sale price. I then go up to 10 copper less than the bottom price depending on how many are selling at that price (if 10 EA are selling at 3g24s15c, I will go down to 3g24s5c; if 1 EA are selling at 3g24s15c, I match it).

This GUARANTEES me a sale w/in one hour… EVERY time.

(tried selling higher than the bottom price once by 10c… never sold)

Are you selling the items back in “demands” or just putting them for sale at the price you want and wait for someone to pick it up?

First you have to realize that Jewelcrafting is the only skill that everyone buys and fits on everyone, non-race/profession specific. It’s how I knew it would bring me profit before I even started.

Second, amulets both cost more to make and also give a larger investment return, but the return rate % may still be the same as selling earrings or rings. Regardless, I ONLY sell amulets because I don’t want to spend too much money early on and I want a larger pool return… regardless of the % value return rate.

I then go into TP, type in ‘amulet’ in the search, and sort them by price: highest to lowest.

The Orichalcum amulets are the simplest amulets to make outside of any special amulet (i.e. Triforce Pendant, etc) and are always in high demand. I look at the most expensive Ori-amulet and create it… usually it’s the Exquisite Ruby, but I’ve seen Emerald get up there too.

Due to the fluctuation of the market prices may vary, but I always get a positive % return investment. Last time I did the math I came out to a 13% out of nothing (just buying all the crafting material straight from the TP for a test run, minus the deduction it would take to post it back into the TP).

Again, a LOT of math, but well worth it since it makes me a free gold a day. Basically what I do is I craft an amulet when I start the game, sell it, and w/in an hour I’ve earned anywhere from 30 – 50 silver. Before I leave the game I create another amulet, sell it, and earn the same… 100% profit, 1 free gold a day.

Like I said, I’ll be making an exhaustive guide on it. Usually the amulet prices stay the same w/ the fluctuation of Ectos so you pretty much still get a 8 – 15% return rate. For anyone who knows money, that’s a lot in the long run.

I’m now putting 1 gold a day in my bank account for later use. This is on top of my normal dungeon/map completion runs so I’ve made about 10+ gold in the last week from this strategy alone playing casual (I work for a living).

I doubt it. Think it’s a glitch. Everyone knows the picks are account bound and yet they’re on the TP as well.

There’s 50000 crafters available for each recipe. If someone posted an order where you could actually make a profit, it’d already be filled up by someone else. Which is why when you look at the TP, the odds are very very high you’ll only see the demands for prices lower than the craft cost.

It’s because it’s the only demands that stay long enough for you to see them.

You must not be @ 400 Jewelcrafting then… hmm… guess my 1 gold profit a day from simply buying the materials off the Trading Post and selling it back as a crafted item isn’t paying off… guess I should stop getting about a 13% return rate of my investment every single day because I know how to buy & sell??

Ya, I think I’ll stick to a free gold a day. Jewelery sells w/in an hour at bottom market value. The average rate of return is 8 – 15% depending on what you sell… and that’s buying every crafting material straight out of TP. I did the math, I know.

That’s why I never sell at the buyer’s price. I only sell below the market value a few copper. That way I’m the very first person that gets the sale and I still make a profit.
