Why nerf this? For some builds, this is basically the only access to stability and condition removal they have.

This . . . i don’t use them but it will destroy several builds.

Just buff or create new powerful runes . . . there are too many bad runes =P.

For the third time, this suggestion doesn’t hurt the condition removal aspect of this runeset, it buffs it.

The goal is to nerf the access to all boons after already having done a full condition cleanse. I don’t think any class should have access to that, just from a runeset, period.

The problem with this rune set is it basically gives you a new skill. Other runes basically just give you stats. I think more runes should be like Lyssa, not the other way around. Lyssa is a fun rune. Others should strive to be more like it. Part of the appeal to some runes are exactly that. Ogre? Vampirism at first glance? Grove if the recharge wasn’t something out of a horror film? Forge? Mercy? They’re interesting runes.

I also think that there is more to why people take this rune than the condi cleanse. I think it comes down to this:

  1. Condi Clear
  2. Stability
  3. Aegis

Those three things make up this rune. If you go with your suggestion, you pretty much nerf 2/3 of it. Pure of voice only gives Stability with Fear, so you won’t be able to get that. To get aegis, you need burning to be applied to you. Thieves, Warriors and maybe necros are the main reason you would want aegis. Most other bursts/heavy CCs are multi hits and aegis would barely do anything. These classes have little to no burning on them.

I honestly see no reason to nerf this. I don’t find this overpowered, especially on the classes that take it. They need defense, and this is a great outlet for them. We should be creating MORE outlets and MORE fun runes, not nerfing them. When I think of what is OP in this game, my mind doesn’t go to Lyssa runes. =/

My bunker doesn’t use grenades or bombs. SD builds don’t use grenades or bombs, but they aren’t tPvP ready generally.

Lyssa isn’t even the problem, why? Its not favorable on Ele at all. On Engi? Who the hell does that?

Lyssa’s only good on two characters, maybe four if you count guardian’s renewed focus and Mesmer mass invis. Other than that, the OP is just frustrated because Warriors destroy him.

Lyssa Warriors are indeed strong but that just means Warriors themselves need to be toned down.

Warrior, thief, mesmer, necromancer and guardian use Lyssa a lot. Engineer has one elite they can use for it (Elixir X), although that’s more rare. The problem people see is that this rune set makes choosing runes way too easy for certain classes. Why on earth would you use anything but lyssa on a thief? It gives you a new stomp. It clears a condi burst. It blocks an attack. It gives a short burst of swiftness. It’s just really really good. The argument I present is that maybe other runes should be pushed up to this level, especially the ones that are on elite. That, or just do a tiny nerf such as removing some of the boons given.

In my mind the question is why would I run lyssa on a Thief. I’d run Ogre or Eagle before lyssa. Basilisk Venom is most productive when you precast it so it’s recharging for another use before you do a spike.

A thief doesn’t have staying power to benefit from using basilisk venom during combat. An initiative regen build with lots of evades might have enough staying power and dps sustain to be worth using Basilisk Venom in combat, but those builds were heavily nerfed on dec 10th.

I honestly don’t need another way to stomp as a thief, as nice as stability would be, I have stealth I can use and blind I can use both with no cooldowns. Lyssa honestly doesn’t make sense to run on a thief for burst builds.

Other than the thief part, I agree there should be more rune choices than the handful that are viable currently.

On a D/P thief, it’s less obvious, but when you are nuking with shortbow during a team fight , you sometimes get focused and that condi clear is extremely useful. The necessity for lyssa runes in a S/D build is much more obvious I think. You’re sticking to the front line so condis ARE going to get on you.

A build that is damaging but not using Nades/Bombs is probably going to end up either being S/D or a joke build. I remember once I tried doing Net Turret + Elixir Gun + Lots of Power + Acid Bomb. Funny as hell when it worked out.

All in all, you might find some decent builds damage builds, but they will never be as good as bombs and grenades.

It really depends on what you are facing. I don’t face a Shatter mesmer the same way I face a hammer warrior. Blinds are almost useless against a nade engi while they shut down a thief pretty heavy.

What it comes down to is you have to understand what counters your enemy’s build and what you have to counter with. For example, if I’m facing a thief, I probably will try to stagger my smoke bomb, glue bomb and pistol shots. It’s all about outlasting their bursts while getting some conditions on them when they fail a burst.

In short, know thy enemy. If you understand exactly what it is like to be a Spirit Ranger, you might have what it takes to beat them. I like to think of them as a boss with parts where they are vulnerable. Look for those moments and try to save your strongest skills for those slip ups. Furthermore, you should be trying to set them up as well (putting down snares, auto attacking, baiting them into a bad spot, counting dodges, etc).

You also have to know where you are weak. You stun breaker isn’t that strong (probably the weakest stun breaker for engineers next to Utility Goggles). That means you REALLY need to be avoiding CC at all costs. Facing a hammer warrior? Keep your distance! It seems like you’re a condi build, so you’ll have a ton of trouble against an engineer using Automated Response. Avoid them! Not entering a losing battle is a win to me!

because some classes don’t have elite’s every 50 seconds for a full condi cleanse which does make it seem a bit unfair, wouldn’t you agree?

Nope. Maybe give other classes an outlet for this, but I see no reason to near nearly every class, especially when there are plenty of skillful builds that would suffer from this. Shatter? D/P Thief? HB Warriors? Most Necromancer builds? This nerf would really hurt them.

I FULLY agree with Jumper on this one. It’s too great, fun and overall, I think skillful.

Need condi? Pistol. Need bunker? Toolkit, bomb kit, elixir gun, flamethrower, hell even nades. Need burst? Static Discharge and just plain old grenades + Rifle. Need CC? Too much to name. Need stealth? Smoke fields and Elixir S. Need good resing? Toss Elixir R, Elixir S, Toss Elixir S. Need good mobility? Perma swiftness and rocket boots on a 16-20 second recharge.

On Elixir X

in Engineer

Posted by: The Gates Assassin.9827

The Gates Assassin.9827

In the right hands, Elixir X can be a great skill. The problem with it is that Tornado and Rampager solve different problems that both require CC. Rampager is for when you have a single target that needs to be repeatedly CCed off a point or straight up killed. Tornado is for when you have multiple people on a point that you need to CC, but not necessarily lock down. One is team fight, one is not. The problem is, you never know which you will get so it can totally screw you if it is wrong. It’s the same issue that Toss Elixir S had. The fix was to make it no random. I think we need the same fix here. Yes, that may mean either getting a copy of another class’s elite OR changing the skill entirely.

Key is, it cannot be random. Elites are a bad place for that drastic of a random effect.

Engineers VS Others in Fractals/Dungs

in Engineer

Posted by: The Gates Assassin.9827

The Gates Assassin.9827

I’m thinking of starting Fractals back up in order to earn some Ascended Items for my Engineer, which I main. I’ve given it a run a few times in the past, mainly on my Necromancer.

My question is:
When looking for a Group on either Fractals Of The Mists or Dungeons for fast daily runs, are Boon/Burst/Crit Engineers looked down upon compared to other classes? Obviously I don’t want Smart-kitten to come along and say “HUEHUEHUE, ’Zerker Warriors are obviously better, kittentard!” because that seems to be the answer for most things at the moment; I’m kinda asking for a comparison between Engineer to Necromancer, Thief, Elementalist (not D/D, I know the answer for that ;D) and Ranger, and I’m talking in general-feel free to mention Specific Builds only if you’ve tried/experienced the Build.

(Tried to keep it as simple as possible)

Oh, and btw:
~> MERRY CHRISTMAS <~

I only have experience with Warrior, Engineer, Elementalist, Thief and Mesmer in those areas.

The two things you need to do in dungeons is do lots of damage and not die. Bonus points if you can keep people alive. Engineers are amazing at all three. The best damage you’ll get from engineer are the following:

  1. Grenade Kit
  2. Rocket Turret (That toolbelt hits like a truck)
  3. Elixir Gun (Acid Bomb ticks for like 2k on crit)
  4. Flamethrower (Skill 2 can easily hit for 7k)

What’s great about Elixir Gun, is it allows you to also support your party with heavy condition removal and some regen. Furthermore, Healing Turret is a staple skill for engineers and offers amazing support (Removes 2 conditions every 15-20 seconds AND heals for 2-3k).

So engineers are amzing.

Thief on the other hand generally has some trouble dealing high AoE damage like the other classes. I haven’t done much testing with Sword/Pistol (Pistol Whip), but it could be a very strong avenue of damage as Pistol Whip is an evade. They do VERY well with support. Certain difficult enemies become a LOT easier when you place Black Powder on them. You can also stick to shortbow and continuously put down choking gas + clustbomb to keep everything weak and damage. They’re also great for skipping content in high end areas. A thief in dredge fractal is practically a must have. Problem with thief is that you, as expected, are one shot away from going down most of the time. Stick to range and only go melee if the fight is easy enough for you.

Elementalist is a tough one. They are EXTREMELY glassy, even more so than thieves as thieves at least have good ways to disengage and blind a lot. That said, Elementalists have access to the highest DPS in the game for some encounters. Just between Fiery Greatsword and Frost Bow, you can bust out AMAZING damage. I personally love going D/D on elementalist because I love it in PvP, but staff can dish out some crazy AoE damage from a safe distance. Certain sections REALLY benefit from having an elementalist. Stationary boss? Feiry Greatsword (FGS) makes short work of it. Lots of balled up enemies? Staff fire skills are great for taking that down.

Their support is amazing too. They have a lot of healing and support skills built into their weapon sets. If you build the right way, you can give your party crazy good support via boons, aura, fields and healing.

Ranger? kitten if I know man. That class is so janky xD.

All in all, I think each can be extremely useful in every way. Thief probably has the lowest damage of all of them (surprisingly) but they have their own little niche. Keep in mind however, engineers can do stealth as well (Via blast finishers) but are much tankier. As an engineer main, I think engineer is the strongest with thief and elementalist being great for their niches.

Healing Skills 25 Skill Points

The Gates Assassin.9827

This is breaking the most important rule in PvP: We are all created equal. If your character isn’t PvE and 80 already, you have to spend a lot of glory and money to get it with tomes of knowledge which cannot be used in PvP areas. This is a terrible precedent to set. I have multiple engineers and thieves because builds cannot be saved, so I have to buy these skills multiple times if each build wants to take them. Maybe that’s not a reality right now, but there’s nothing saying it’s impossible in the future. Please lower the cost to 0-1 skill points in PvP areas!

Best to Worst Fractals.

in Fractured

The Gates Assassin.9827

Aquatic Ruins Fractal – 7/10. It’s a nice change of pace and overall a calm yet active fractal. A good starting one.
Cliffside Fractal – 8/10. It’s definitely well designed. Ramps up really well and ends really epically. First boss is a bit stale.
Snowblind Fractal – 8/10. Great teaching of mechanics, a nice lead up and great atmosphere. The final boss is a bit boring.
Swampland Fractal – 5/10. Either stupidly easy because your team is competent or stupidly hard and frustrating because they just don’t understand the run. The Moss Man is super easy and the other guy is actually a good fight.
Underground Facility Fractal – 2/10. Each part is interesting, but overall made punishing and slow by high health pools, huge mobs and cheesy tactics.
Urban Battlegrounds Fractal – 6/10. Interesting mechanics with the siege, but they can act in really immersion breaking ways (pot of oil anyone?). Overall, I think more could have been done with this fractal’s mechanic of siege and GW1 combat.
Volcanic Fractal – 6/10. First part is mindless. Saving the people is mindless. The boss is mindless. The run to the final boss is pretty cool. The final boss is a nice challenge. I think there could be a lot more done to make the beginning better, because the idea for the mechanics is there. Imagine if instead of veterans going to kill the prisoners, it was regular mobs and there were 4 at a time or more.
Uncategorized Fractal – 8/10. Your love of this one is dependent on how much you love jumping puzzles. I love them. From a design perspective, the pacing in this is great. The only part that is a bit stale is the final boss and the first fighting encounter. The final boss is a waste of a possibly cool mechanic (the positive negative stuff) and the first fight drags on a bit too long.
Thaumanova Reactor Fractal – 7/10. Very interesting mechanics. The first time you go through this, it’s a pain, but that final boss makes up for it. The turret room makes me cry sometimes. I love the ooze as it is a CC style boss, which we don’t see very often.
Molten Furnace Fractal – 5/10. The tunneling part is super slow and really just kinda boring. The mist gates that pop up and can’t be invulned through are just there to slow you down. No challenge to it. The final boss is great, but most players cheese it in the corner, making it less fun.
Aetherblade Fractal – 9/10. Amazing fractal that is being cheesed in a corner. Fix the cheese and this is a 10 in my books.
Captain Mai Trin Boss Fractal 8/10. The overall mechanics are amazing. Very interesting, very challenging and a LOVE the look/feel of Mai herself. That said, there are no ramping up mechanics in this, making it feel a bit repetitive, especially since every cannon phase is a near wipe for most parties.
Molten Boss Fractal – 10/10. Amazing boss fight. You can decide to fight him in different ways, both mechanics are really interesting and there’s actual strategy to fighting them. Killing berzerker first is sooooo worth it for the epicness of the flying guy’s fight.
Solid Ocean Fractal – 2/10. This is the most yawn enducing fight ever. He has a cool mechanic, he just needs to have more to it. Maybe at lower health he starts targeting two at once. Maybe the attack becomes AoE around the player and leaves a death circle there for 10 seconds. Maybe he actually has that skill that can break the floor from the cutscene!

Overall Average – 6.5/10. That’s not terrible, but I think a few simple fixes could bring this up to at least an 8 or higher. Some simple fixes:

  1. Less health on dredge bosses.
  2. Require only 8 seconds for the switch during the dredge fractal.
  3. Less health on the maw. Attack faster. Make the crystal guys more deadly.
  4. Spawn more grawl to kill the prisoners in volcanic.
  5. Focus more attacks on the corner during the molten facility fractal boss.

Terrible Content

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: The Gates Assassin.9827

The Gates Assassin.9827

Honestly…a guy in chat summed it up pretty well a few minutes ago…..“all alone…….big spider”. I see maybe 3-4 people in the tower on my server, and when was this content released? A few days ago….and people are already sick of it. Being a solo player here means death, and since there are few people to group with you’re basically screwed.

Reason theres so few people? Because theres no point being in the tower, event farm is better elsewhere, champion farm is better elsewhere. Unless that kitten chest has a 10times drop rate for pre-cursors i dont see anyone even setting foot inside the tower within a week. And theres no way in hell the tower is going to be destroyed by then, not on my server at least.

Suggestions: None really….this content is just poorly designed. Reducing difficulty would bring solo players into it, but would also lead to massive zerg-fests. Which already happen anyways but only happen rarely.

And no my server is not low pop or wvw oriented server. Its high population and most of the players are pve. Meaning theres people in the game, they just hate this content.

What server? Because TC is not only swarming with people, but so are the overflows. Even really late into the night (3AM EST sometimes). The only boss that cannot be soloed by most players is the queen spider, and even the queen can be soloed. Just because you don’t like a particular content doesn’t mean it is poorly designed. I hated the Super Adventure Box, but I’d never call it poorly designed. In contrast, this is one of my favorite releases so far, and it’s one of two that I’ve actually returned to multiple times to complete. Why? It’s group content that I can solo. It brings back running into the game that has basically been lost since GW1. It has multiple dungeons that change every time you do them. It has secrets all over the god kitten place.

If the only reason you play this game is to get a reward, you’re just torturing yourself. The point of new living story releases isn’t to give you new ways to farm every two weeks. It’s to continue the story and spice up the content for the sake of fun.

But by all means, go have fun doing the same dungeon over and over again.

There are so many things you could have done about that champion:

  1. Get friends to help you fight it.
  2. Wait for a zerg.
  3. Get a ranged weapon and fight it.

Your lack of skill is not a reason to call this bad content. This has been one of my favorite releases so far, right next to the Queen’s Gauntlet.

I was able to run from the bottom floor to the top floor in about 10 minutes. I soloed a couple of this “impossible omg we need a zerg” events. They scale to the number of players.

The only part of this content I have to call into question is the spider queen. Her cocoon attack is undodgable, and perhaps unblockable. The only way it can be mitigated is through stability, making the spider queen nigh impossible to solo.

I just tried that boss solo. WOW. I think I have a strategy, but it’s a toughy for sure. I think the trick will be using LOS to avoid the cacoon attack.

EDIT: Just got the strategy down. If you keep pulling her around the corner and use AoE, the cacoon attack will never hit you. It’s EXTREMELY difficult to pull off, but it’s possible.

EDIT: Another strategy. If the boss never gets to you, it can’t devour you. So just keep it perma snared and the cacoon thing just becomes a time waster.

My Only Complaint

in The Nightmare Within

Posted by: The Gates Assassin.9827

The Gates Assassin.9827

First off, I love this tower. It’s one of the few pieces of PvE content that I’ve returned to after playing it once. I am, through and through, a hardcore player. If something is challenging, I love it. That said, some people might say some of the stuff I’m suggesting is too difficult, but in reality, a lot of it already exists.

The Downed State

I love the integration of the downed state in PvE, but I don’t think it was done as well as it could have been:

  1. The enemies while downed have no player like CC to keep players from killing them. If you have more than 2k health, you can stomp anything.
  2. The enemies healing ability cannot be interrupted by damage. This means that in a downed fight, the player will lose.
  3. Other enemies, besides the snake looking one, don’t try to resurrect their allies. An argument against this might be that it isn’t there fighting style, but Toxic Bulwarks seem more likely to do this than the snake looking thing.
  4. Enemies don’t try to stomp you. I don’t understand why this isn’t implemented for enemies that aren’t covered by 100 stacks of defiant.

The reason I want all this extra downed state stuff is because, in reality, this is the leading mechanic of the game. Every single skill created is designed with the down state in mind. Lupi can hit for 15k with a very hard to read attack. If there was no down state, that boss would almost never be beaten by most parties. How on earth could we have a thief that murders some players in 1 second without a downed state? Stealth? Hundred Blades hitting for upwards of 14k? None of this could exist if we didn’t have this second chance mechanic in the game. So why doesn’t PvE take FULL advantage of this?

It also gives players a reason to bring so many skills that are usually not taken:

  1. Resurrection Skills
  2. CC
  3. Blinds
  4. Invulnerabilities

It also introduces something that PvPers have been mastering for a long time. There are so many different and interesting ways to stomp someone. Portal Stomp, Distortion Stomp, Gear Block Stomp, Elixir S Stomp, Dodge Stomp, Plague Stomp etc etc. I could go on for hours. It adds so much diversity to the gameplay rather than simple blasting everything down and moving on.

Of course, not everything needs to be stomped. For example, S Golems (Suicide Golems) in CoE probably don’t need this mechanic, but it would add a whole new dimension to the fight if you have to stomp out the champion golems.

You could apply this to bosses and make downing them another part of the challenge! Maybe bosses require a slightly longer cast time to stomp them!

You could even have it so that champions (with defiant) can res their minions from the downed state (not dead). Now instead of simply CCing everything off, players have to be smart about getting enemies down. Cleaving, Poisoning the downed body, using invulns, etc etc. Some of the simple encounters get a whole new dimension to them simply by adding this mechanic.

Of course, this requires a crazy amount of development time. It’s something that probably should have been put into the game from the beginning. Shame =/

As far as I know it has yet to be done using only ingame resources. Every successful attempt I’ve heard of needed TS to win.

SO… technically still impossible without 3rd party programs.

Also the majority of the attempts have been performed by either BG or TC. They just keep guesting around and beating it on different servers to help people out. Which is great, and very nice of them, but not representative of the majority.

Not saying I don’t like the challenge, beating it is fun, i’ve done it once, hoping to do it again tonight. But to be fair it has yet to be beaten by normal players, which is what the people claiming it was impossible had in mind I think.

Under that logic, doing tPvP with voice chat is cheating. It’s ELITE content. If voice wasn’t required/extremely helpful, it wouldn’t be hard.

Why Open World is Good

in Tequatl Rising

Posted by: The Gates Assassin.9827

The Gates Assassin.9827

So Tarnished Coast just beat Tequatl and I totally understand why this is open world now. It’s not about proving that your small group is good. It’s not about proving your guild can do it. It’s about your entire server. It’s about building up the community by teaching each other and planning out a strategy. It’s about hopping in a voice chat, meeting people and discussion. I feel so close to my server after this fight. We spent hours with over a hundred TCers and felt that “Boss Rush” feeling. Getting a little bit closer to killing him with each attempt. 95% -> 80% -> 51% -> 20% -> 0%.

The more of these you make, the better. I absolutely love this content type. I had the honor of leading the group last night and it was so much fun (we got himto 20%!). Today at around 3, we killed him (Different commander). Thing is though, it wasn’t just about one good commander, or even 3! It was about all of us.

If this was instanced, it no long becomes about the server, it becomes about the select few that some exclusive group allows in. Anyone can join us in killing him, and that’s the best part. GW2 is about everyone working together, and that is what Tequatl has brought us.

Shatner, I hope we see you buffed next.

If RPers can do this, so can you.

1. Not all on TC are RPere considering its a top 5 NA wvwvw server.
2. Possibly half the people on the map were guests, like every time I try to go to FGS or any other event where guests force players off their own kitten homes.

Nice job on bein a condescending priq to RPers though.

Can he be hit with criticals? Ive heard both yes and no, and I want to know if there is any advantage to using full zerker gear compared to more survivable pvt gear.

The only useful stats when attacking tequatl are power toughness and vitality. He is immune to critical hits (So no crit damage or precision) and conditions get overridden constantly (So no condition duration or condition damage).

I was just told that after he is hit with the laser, he can bit crit. Does that mean that it would be better to wear zerker gear for the fight or is the amount of time open for crits just not worth it?

Assuming I will on him the whole fight(other than phase2)

That’s not true. He is never crittable. If he was critable, they’d make the whole event critable.

The forums possibly have about 3k players at the very very very very most that actively post here. This thread will get at most 500 responses. There are literally 400,000 players playing at one time in this game. The nigh impossible 500 responses this thread would get is .1% of all players that are playing right now and since about 5 million games were sold of GW2, that’s about 0.01% of all players that might play this content.

The forums house a very vocal and negative minority of the playerbase.

This poll is useless and misleading.

Just because they boast the fact they hit 400k concurrent players AT ONE TIME last year or whatever doesn’t mean that happens every hour, every day, or even ever since. Talk about skewing numbers.

I think you’re missing the point here.

The animation is about 3 seconds long. The wave takes about a second or two to get to you. If you can’t dodge that because of lag, get a new comp.

The Gates Assassin.9827

This guide has one purpose: To teach people how to damage a world boss. This is nothing new, but there are some Tequatl specific stuff I noticed at the bottom:

Damaging Tequatl Guide

The best skills for this fight are ones that fit some of these criteria:

  • Skills that pulse in a field (He can’t move, so he has to take the full damage)
  • Skills that can hit multiple parts of him (He has multiple places you can hit him, if you can hit more than one, your skill becomes twice as powerful).
    • AoE
    • Piercing
  • Skills the rely on power damage
  • Skills that deal more damage when the target is suffering from a condition (He always has all conditions on him)

Engineer

  • Freeze Grenade
  • Grenade Barrage

Grenades are the way to go for engineer. What else is new?

Elementalist

  • Meteor Shower
  • Fiery Rush (Fiery Greatsword)
  • Flame Wave (Fiery Greatsword)
  • Ice Bow

All of these can and should be brought on an ele. Don’t target Tequatl and use Fiery Rush through him to deal crazy amounts of damage to him. When the elite is on recharge, hit him with ice bow and then switch to staff. This is the best damage against a world boss in the game.

Necromancer

  • Life Transfer
  • Well of Corruption
  • Well of Suffering
  • Deathly Claws (Lich Form)

Very possible to bring all of these. Good placement could have the wells tick double.

Guardian

  • Whirling Wrath (Careful with this one)
  • Symbol of Wrath
  • Smite

Smite is the safest and best way to deal damage.

Warrior

  • Hundred Blades
  • Whirlwind Attack
  • Arcing Arrow
  • Hammer Shock
  • Rifle Skills with Crack Shot trait (This makes all rifle skills pierce. Kill shot gogo!)
  • Whirling Axe
  • Tremor

Rifle with piercing and a longbow seem like the way to go here.

Mesmer

  • Mind Wrack
  • Phantasmal Berserker
  • Chaos Storm
  • Illusionary Duelist

Make sure you have Signet of Illusions if you are going for Tequatl. That shockwave hits like a truck! The faster you can put out Illusionary Duelists, the better, so all recharge traits help.

Ranger

  • Barrage (Careful!)
  • Longbow and Shortbow with Piercing Arrows trait
  • Split Blade
  • Any Drake Pet

Drake + longbow + shortbow and stick to the side of him so the piercing works.

Thief

  • Cluster Bomb
  • Trick Shot
  • Pistols With Bouncing Trait

Spam it!

Charr

  • Artillery Barrage
  • Fire Rocket Barrage

In case you don’t have a good AoE on your class coughmesmerscough. I assume we’ll be seeing a lot of the ever so common…charr mesmer.

To me, these are the damage kings:

  1. Elementalist
  2. Warrior
  3. Ranger
  4. Thief
  5. Engineer
  6. Necromancer
  7. Guardian
  8. Mesmer

Doing Melee Damage

Despite what people say about melee, you can definitely melee this guy. You need to pick your moments, but there’s a few that I noticed:

  • When Tequatl pulls his hands back to summon the fingers, he’s not going to shockwave for a bit. Totally open.
  • When Tequatl is fearing everyone, pop stability and wreck his dirty kitten .
  • Just after Tequatl finishes shockwave, he doesn’t attack as much.

If you pay attention to when he goes for the slam on shockwave, you can EASILY dodge or jump it. I suggest dodging as it’s much more consistent.

The best place to do melee damage to him was his front left foot I found. There’s a little island that it is on and you can even clearly see the red circles there.

Tarnished Coast got him to 10% today. LETS KILL THIS TACO TONIGHT!

You’re kidding right?

This franchise, thanks to the input of Jeremy Soule, has some of the best music of the MMO crop.

The problem is that you’ve heard it all before, as no boss has unique music.

Furthermore, the music you’ve listed is decent, but still nothing special in that it sounds like formulaic JRPG battle music.

I loves those games too, but you’re having a nostalgia attack. You want to FEEL like you did when you heard this music, which is why the music is meaningful to you, not because it’s great music.

Are you kidding? Jeremy Soule can’t do anything different, I swear I can’t listen to guild wars 2 music as it’s the same thing as the elder scrolls and I’ve gotten sick of that games music. I’d gladly take old jrpg music at this point.

I would have to greatly disagree, but you would have to listen to Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall, Eye of the North, and GW2 in order to see that there is a very wide range of things this composer can do. You are very limited in what you are judging.

The problem with Jeremy Soule’s music is that he can write amazing main themes, but his open world and battle stuff are extremely generic. Not to mention the games he tends to write for do NOT use his music well. He also seems to avoid using the main theme throughout his pieces, so it’s hard to get that nostalgic feeling from them.

For example, Terra’s Theme from FFVI has that main theme used everywhere and even thrown into other songs minorly. It really helps with building nostalgia.

Flamethrower is still not worth the slot

Holy necro’d thread Batman!

Incendiary’s 100% proc is nice but it was easy to keep burns rolling with FT alone even beforehand. Between the long duration fire field and even minimal +boon duration with autoattack, burns were ever-present.

The biggest boon to FT is Juggernaut’s move from Grandmaster to Master trait. It basically gives you a free 10 trait points to put elsewhere. Survivability, utility, movement, you decide. You can try hybrids. Can might stack even easier with 30 in Alch for HGH if you want, or supplement a rifle/SD build with FT for variety (something I’ve been messsing with lately).

I still wouldn’t use skill anything but the toolbelt ability in flamethrower for damage even if you paid me. Okay maybe if you paid me.

Why do people find c necro so op in pvp?

in Necromancer

Posted by: The Gates Assassin.9827

The Gates Assassin.9827

Why do people complain about necro?

1) False. If you get stomped in a 1v1, you’re doing it very wrong. Throwing up Spectral Armor and going into DS can really easily keep you alive. Add in the fact that Doom can be casted while CCed and how damaging you are, it’s easy to stay alive. Your defense is counterpressure.
2) ??? It’s because Necromancer is dipping heavily into two parts of the trinity. It has high CC and high Damage. Anything that dips too much into two or is EXTREME in 1 is pretty OP. For example, Spirit Ranger is high Support and Damage. Air Spike Ele is extreme in the damage area.
3) Heartseeker doesn’t CC you. It’s also an incredibly easy to pick out animation. If you look at a LOT of the necro skills, the animations are very similar and hard to pick out. Not to mention the chain can be done from 1,200 range away. Furthermore, if you HS spam, you run out of initiative, which basically puts everything on cooldown. This doesn’t happen with necromancers.
4) Even if you spec condiclears, you need a TON of them to face a necro. Signet of spite? Two marks? All of these put up crazy amounts of conditions. As for berserkers, yeah, they deserve to die quick, but also remember that conditions ignore armor.

I recommend actually going and taking a look at the definition of a cooldown and what the actual cooldowns are for necro skills, and what the typical builds / utility skill combinations are. Then, look up what CC skills are available for other classes and do a comparison. If you still feel like complaining, you can go back a few patches and see what actually changed as far as necro condition application / damage to make condi necros supposedly so OP. I think what you find will be surprising and possibly informative for you.

Or just keep on moaning about how unfair things are. Whatever floats your boat I guess.

That is the best non-response I’ve ever seen. Congrats.

What changed was that necros gained the ability to kill people effectively with the same poorly telegraphed skills. If a build doesn’t kill, it’s not as big of a deal that it’s poorly telegraphed. Now that it can wreck people, the fact that staff, doom and signet of spite are so powerful matter.

The Gates Assassin.9827

Why do people complain about necro?

1) It is because they are clueless and haven’t actually played a necro, so they don’t actually know how non-faceroll the class is / how many ways there are to get stomped into the ground.
2) It is because of bullkitten e-sport class nerf politics youtube videos.
3) It is because they can’t do math, so they don’t realize that the “fear CC burst chain” does less damage than a couple of heartseekers.
4) It is because they are wearing berserker gear and don’t want to have to actually spec any condition clears / regen / vitality / l2p.

I think that pretty much sums it up.

1) False. If you get stomped in a 1v1, you’re doing it very wrong. Throwing up Spectral Armor and going into DS can really easily keep you alive. Add in the fact that Doom can be casted while CCed and how damaging you are, it’s easy to stay alive. Your defense is counterpressure.

Difficulty is subjective to each and every individual. A Game Designers Goal should be to create a balance or varience to cover a vast range of difficulty.

With that said, difficulty can certainly be an issue to some players with the current update. Implying that anyone who states such is wrong for stating their griefs (constructively) is also incorrect.

Have a wonderful day.

And how did they not? The gauntlet has multiple tiers. There’s casual content right below it. There’s explorer style content out in the world.

You must have misread what I wrote kind sir. I never implied ArenaNet did not make this current update viable for a vast amount of players. I was speaking in regards to your opinion on the matter that difficulty is not an issue. Some players feel differently which is perfectly okay.

The order and placement of difficulty matters. The degree of difficulty does not. When players hear that Fractals 40+ was suppose to be impossible, some hardcore players jumped all over that. Some players would hate going after something said to be impossible. Some loved it.

The gauntlet is optional content. It can be as hard as they want. The difficulty of the bosses is pretty close to in order. If Liadri was first, difficulty would matter, but she’s not. She’s last.

The Gates Assassin.9827

Seriously. Stop saying X isn’t fun because it shows you don’t know a thing about game design. Content is fun for certain types of players. Others will absolutely hate it. All you can really talk about are how well it’s produced. Things like conveyance (how easy it is to tell why something is happening), retryability (How quickly you can retry after failure), replayability (how long until the content becomes boring), variance (how different challenges are from each other), bugginess (BUGS!) and usability (how easy controls are to use) are things you can really talk about. If you are saying that Liadri isn’t fun because I died, you are not a hardcore player and won’t enjoy the content. I personally loved fighting Liadri and all of those deaths just made my victory even better.

There’s a ton of things to complain about, but difficulty isn’t one of them. Color blind issue in the arena? That’s fair. Camera problems in the dome? Fair. Red circle culling for the Kuraii Fight? Fair. Saying “cheap” mechanics and “too much to focus on” isn’t fun? Not fair.

It’s like saying “WHY IS THERE SHRIMP AT THIS DINNER? SHRIMP TASTES BAD!” Yeah it does, to YOU!

This is how I’d rate everything in the arena:

  • Conveyance : 5. Some boss mechanics aren’t obvious and the solution isn’t exactly logical. Why would I eat dog food off the ground? Why would I stand in a vortex to protect myself from a giant light attack? Red circles on orange floor? How much time is left? Why is Liadri way harder than everything else in tier 3? Why is meat on a stick bad for you? Why is the range on the first bosses attack slightly longer than the animation?
  • Retryability : 4. You have to buy tickets. Gambits cost tickets. If you die and no one is around, you have to waypoint and run back up. It breaks your armor. If you time out, no one can save you.
  • Replayability : 10. I love gambits. 6 gambit Liadri! You shall be mine!
  • Variance : 10. Pretty much every battle was unique.
  • Bugginess: 3. Players ending up in the same arena, bosses teleporting to other arenas, Crowd Favorite quaggan disappearing, lag because of players below.
  • Usability : 3. The dome + camera. Picking up pieces of meat is really slow. The arena defaults to the highest enemy you’ve unlocked, instead of locking in the thing you chose with the fight coordinator.

What do you guys think? How would you rate the arena with those criteria?
