Regarding hard-to-get exotic gears

I find it unlikely.

The whole reason they brought Ascended in in the fist place was because of ‘progression’. Automatically upgrading the fancy Exotics defeats the entire purpose of introducing Ascended in the first place.

PvP is already accessible to PvE players:

  • Their new matchmaking system means you’re facing opponents of similar skill
  • Everything is available for you from the get go.

Changing the ability to have your PvE look in PvP won’t affect accessibility.

Different Dungeon Difficulty Levels

False, there is a penalty for not learning the mechanic. It is called Repair bills and running back. Every death will teach you not to do that again. The old system was a great way in learning dungeon. It doesn’t frustrate veteran players because they aren’t affected by terrible player’s skills. It also more fun than not playing the game and lying down on the ground.

That is how I learned 99% of the dungeons when the game came out and I am glad that I learned from the old system before the new system came into place, I would’ve quit.

I disagree.

While you may have learnt that way, not everyone has. Why do you think people are asking for it back?

  • Because they haven’t needed to learn the fights, and now are having difficulty because they haven’t got the crutch of ‘well, if I die, I can always run back’.
  • Because they don’t want the ‘hassle’ of teaching new players, which is just as harmful to the community.

Considering you can make a gold or two on a run, a few silver for repairs is hardly anything. As for running back? That takes, what? Under a minute? Hardly much of a penalty.

Bad players aren’t going to get better if you pat them on the back, say ‘well, you tried’, and allow them to progress even if they play terrible.

Back in GW, if you all died, you’d have to redo the mission completely, even if your were on the final boss. If you died and got revived, you’d get 15% Death Penalty each time to a total of 60%, reducing your stats, and the only way you could get rid of it is either using an item, or killing mobs, which would reduce it by 1% every 72(?) xp you earned, or 2% for bosses.

Restarting at the last boss is pretty tame in comparison.

Like I said, slowing down / extending attack animations, as well as reducing damage (one-shot moves become three-shot moves) allows you to see what you’re looking for, and would be far more ideal for a learning mode.

If you don’t know how you got Downed in the first place, how do you learn from it?

2 Range vs Melee

I seriously think that range profession need a boots, my main is a warrior and to play other profession like engineer until 80, ele until 62 and ranger 74 and a mesmer until 80 (the most enjoyable range profession) is just painful, don’t get me wrong I like challenges but in order to be proficient in those profession especially with engi/ele you need to be perfect. I think a nice improvement just to start with should be to boost the auto attack. Seriously and my warrior with a GS on auto attack I crit and hit harder than some of my engineer skills.

Melee are also at the most risk, which is why they have higher base damage.

3 Dungeons

…no strategies hope for the best…

Well there’s your problem.

If you use the ‘help your team-mates, try to reduce damage as much as possible’ strategy, as opposed to the ‘hope for the best zerg’ strategy, you’ll find the runs go much smoother.

Shadow’s Fang

Weapon Type: Dagger

Lore

This is the dagger wielded by the infamous Shadow, a Luxon assassin of great renown. Shadow went missing after completing his final mission, and neither him, nor this dagger, was seen again.

The dagger was created back in a time when assassins couldn’t freely move in and out of sight, so these were created and enchanted to aid them in this.

Aesthetics:

Drawing the dagger causes an explosion of shadow. When the smoke clears, the wielder has a hood and cloak made of shadow, that has the same physics as a real cloak (i.e. running forward will cause it to billow behind, while jumping will cause it to billow up).

The dagger itself will have a dark aura that grows when in combat, giving the illusion that the blades have extended.

Footprints will be wisps of smoke trailing upwards.

Well it does say that the february patch is the Second of a Four part installment.

Of Living Story? I hope for more content in that stories, the first part was something I can’t understand, too little content for a month.

About Big Updates I hope they come, for now It looks the 2012 Updates was bigger, this can’t be bigger than the fractals one for example. Sure it wont, at least by what it says in the update page.

They said the updates in total would be bigger. Not each individual one.

And this month’s story content was a prelude. Think of it as an author releasing a few lines of his latest book.

In general i’ve to say, the whole dungeon design is crap, sorry to say so, but it is so.
Dungeons absolutely fail in generating any fun at all.
Or do you find it any fun to lie dead on the ground like mostly half of the time, of not even more, because of most of the enemies in the dungeons being massively overpowered.

I find dungeons fun.

Then again, I’m not spending most of my time on the floor.

Massively overpowered? Hardly, as long as you work as a team, which is the entire point of dungeons. The only way you’re going to get dungeons done with 5 glass cannons where everyone does their own thing is if everyone in the team is incredibly skilled.

A compromise that makes this suggestion feel more like GW1:
Have one free WP in every zone.

I still think that teleporting to the various capital cities should be completely free wherever you are in the world mind you.

That’s an idea.

One free waypoint in each zone at the entrance.
Waypoints at dungeon entrances are free.
Waypoints at cities are free.

All other waypoints cost, because they’re merely convenience then.

I don’t have time to bother explaining to new players.

This is part of the problem. Everyone expects newbs to perform well, but hardly no-one takes the time to help them. Instead it’s ‘get it right or we’ll kick you’. It takes 5 mins to explain a fight, whether just before the fight, or while you’re waiting for group members, and could save you a whole lot more time in the long-run.

A mode where attack animations are extended, and damage is reduced would help teach fights better than the ability to zerg-rush.

After all, if you can win a fight just by waypoint ressing the boss to death, what’s the point in learning the fight?

Why bother learning the fight if you don’t need to?

Tell me, how does run > die > res, rinse and repeat make any sense at all?

Not only that, you don’t die straight away.

There is nothing wrong with failing, as long as you learn something from it. If you’re down, watch the fight.

And you mention that it’s bad psychology. Tell me what other MMO allows you to get up an infinite amount of times in a fight?

You don’t have a good grasp on playstyle in this context. We are not talking about catering to every last detail of play. Players usually self-select around PvE open world/PvE dungeons/PvP. There are people that hate dungeons and hate PvP. There is no reason to mandate that people play major game systems that they detest. But, given that I wouldn’t put salvage in as a required activity either. The key is for there to be options available that allow players to both play the game enjoyably and get the daily and monthly achievements.

I’m all for choice. Maybe have selectable Monthly criteria in Hard / Medium / Easy categories so people don’t just choose the easiest ones in a given list.

I.E:

Hard: Complete 12 Different Dungeon Explorable Paths / Retake The Orr Temples
Medium: Complete All Story Mode Dungeons / Do 100 Events
Easy: Vanquish A Dungeon Path / Kill 20 Champions

(These are just examples to illustrate a point. Don’t shout that one is easier than the other)

WvW should also have their own Monthly achievements. Hardcore WvW players don’t want to PvE, and visa versa.

But even if you gave choice, people would still complain because not every choice would fit into their playstyle. When it comes to things like this, you need to have some sort of challenging aspect to it otherwise the rewards are just handed.

Where is the WvW progression system and new rewards???? Wasn’t it scheduled for February or am I completely mistaken?

As for Guild Missions:
Yay more content for players using full MF and just spam fireball/any ranged weapon1 skill. Find a huge guild group going to do some hard Guild Mission content, follow them, press 1 a few times and get the same RNG chances (maybe better with more MF) yay. Way to promote leeches even more!

I hope those “Guild Merits” are only rewarded to full guild teams finishing those missions and not random leeches and of course the rewards from them are worth something…

It was clearly his “subjective opinion”

Rather than critique him, why not give us your idea of a fun dungeon, and tell us IF GW2’s dungeons fulfill the criteria, how do they do so and what could they possibly improve. That’s a discussion, not a kitten for tat back n forth argument.

I personally find the dungeons fun. If I didn’t, I wouldn’t run them. In keeping with the original topic as well, I wouldn’t complain about getting no rewards for it either. It’s a game. I play for fun, not rewards.

As for improvements, more fight and dungeon mechanics mostly.

I’m personally waiting to see what they do with the overhauls to mechanics.

Maybe additional systems like Vanquishing (killing all mobs in the Dungeon), and Bonus Missions (I.E. Priory in AC has asked you to collect fragments and artifacts all around the dungeon. Bringing them back would yield additional reward).

Guilds are kind of like Clans in FPS games; groups of organised people. Usually, Guilds are either casual (meaning their more for social purposes) or aim in progressing in a specific area (PvE, WvW, PvP). Given that the next update will be introducing Guild Missions, you may want to consider joining one.

As for mini-pets, some people are collectors, and just like collecting them.

I would give some tips, but a big part of this game is exploring, and that also means finding things out for yourself Although if you find yourself doing a checklist mentality when it comes to map completion, turn off all of the icons using the eye in the bottom left of the world map.

It’s the same issue. People don’t want to feel forced into modes of play they don’t enjoy. I dropped the personal story around lvl 30, when I found out it was all leading to a blasted dungeon! I don’t like the format, I don’t like the lack of team-size scaling, I don’t like the archaic method of finding a group – you think, based on that, I’d tolerate one every four days for a few laurels? Not a chance. “Hassle” isn’t a big enough word to cover how I feel about dungeons in GW2.

GW2 sold me on open world dynamic events and WvW, not lfg’ing with the leet crowd to get into poxy five-man instances. The continuing pressure to participate in that nonsense is galling.

Fair enough. Can’t really think of much more to say to that, especially if you consider the Laurels not worth the hassle.

You’ve got 28 days to do 5 dungeons.

Is that really difficult to achieve?

Yes, it is if you don’t do dungeons. Pretty straightforward. Since dailies and monthlies are a currency reward rather than just an achievement, and since they are the mechanism in place for the gear grind treadmill, they should really be available to people with all playstyles, which includes people who don’t do WvW or dungeons. This doesn’t require a great deal of thought or reality-testing. Anyone should be able to understand this.

I personally don’t salvage anything but Rare’s. ANet need to change it because it doesn’t fit in with my playstyle, and 500 is too much.

If it’s going to be a case of you get rewarded for playing the game the way you play it anyway, they may as well go ’here’s your monthly allowance of Laurels’. If they made the amount of what you usually do a lot, people will complain it’s a grind.

Doing 1 dungeon every 4 days (meaning you’ll be done in 20 days) isn’t as much of a hassle as people are making it out to be.

Since WvW is another game-mode (PvPVE), it should have a separate monthly achievement anyway for the people who want to just play WvW.

This is what dungeon run looks like in other mmorpg:

A bunch of noob get together trying to conquer the dungeon by wiping over and over again, and when they finally beat the last boss and get the equipment they want, they never have to do the same dungeon again.

Heh. Yeah. Sure thing.

Care to name this MMO?

First of all, talking about other MMO is very rude in a mmorpg’s general forum. That is sort of like advertisement.

Ok. But in most other MMO’s, you’re running the same dungeons over and over to:

  • Get a specific drop
  • Get tokens for gear

I haven’t seen an MMO where you run a dungeon ‘a few times’ and then you move on. They tend to keep running the same dungeons to gear up, over and over.

I’m still interested though, so fancy pm’ing the name?

But what I meant is people dont’ get “as upset” in other mmorpg because they only need to successfully conquer the dungeon a few times. People rage quit in other games too of course, it’s just GW2 is much worse.

But in this game dungeon is the only end game content and people are forced to do it over and over again “and get paired up with newcomers” they become very irritated.

I run enough pug and see enough people havior. It is pretty bad in this game. All those elitist only want to play with each other. And when anyone did anything wrong, people start yelling and making sarcastic comment.

How is this any different from Raids?

You got the people who are new to raids and run with more experienced players, and it’s exactly the same. Someone messes up, everyone rages, unless you’re a close-nit guild.

I wouldn’t consider GW2 to be any worse or better in this regard.

Flame and Frost: The Gathering Storm

TheDaiBish.9735

If ArenaNet took PVE in this game serious the January update would have included the ENTIRE Flame and Frost story line, maybe stretch it over to February but no longer.

I’d have to disagree with this, unless you’re suggesting that they progress the story over the month, rather than have the entire thing all at once.

They would have also added in at least one new dungeon preferably in relation to the Flame and Frost story line, if not that then at the very least a new fractal.

How do you know they won’t be adding a new fractal?

They promised to revamp all the original dungeons but that could be months away, and with there current obsession in focusing ALL there development time to PVP it looks like PVE will remain almost non existent in this game.

Even when the revamp dungeons finally come who will really care? Unless they are 100% redone with new bosses, story, loot, different paths to follow and new mechanics NO one will run them and it would be a waste of developers time.

PvE has had way more added to it than WvW and SPvP in terms of content.

SPvP has had 2 new maps, and WvW has had breakout events. PvE has had seasonal events, one-time events, fractals, this storyline, dynamic events, Orr has been revamped ect. PvE has had way more attention than PvP.

It makes me so sad to say this but currently Guild Wars 2 has the worst PVE in the history of MMO’s.

But that’s just like, your opinion.

TL;DR – Before moaning, wait and see.

Protection is the only way to reduce Condition Damage.

By nerfing Protection, and buffing Toughness (which does nothing against condition damage), you’re actually reducing the only protection against condition damage, while making players more susceptible to it.

its not the ONLY protection against it, you know this thing called condition removal?

Sounds familiar…

Joking aside, touche.

Wait until they’ve actually made the changes before criticizing.

Nothing game-changing to say the least…

- Grind and vertical progression
- Seasonal Event for Cash Shop marketing
- More skinner box techniques and systems to disguise how the gameplay is inherently shallow
- Uncomplete story arch that, currently, has you searching two maps to light fires, collect trinkets, and fix sign posts 100+ times for a dopey title and 5000 karma.

You know, it’s entirely possible to tell what has been added without injecting opinion into it…

They should go back and look at the Black Moa Chick hunt:

While the process wouldn’t be that short (so to speak), it had some interesting parts in it that took you across all campaigns.

Having waypoints available during combat isn’t a good way to get used to the dungeons.

Why? Because there is no penalty to not learning the mechanics. Someone is more likely to learn the mechanics if they know they / their team will be going down if they don’t pay attention.

Things like increased charge-up animation time and reduced damage help teach the encounter, because you’ll then know what to look for.

There isn’t anything wrong with failing as long as you learn something from it.

Also, 10 less tokens? I’d say drop it down to 30, at least, otherwise people will just farm easymode for the tokens.
