I came to visit this thread because I wanted to see a dead HoD. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT LACK OF DEAD HOD!!!!!!!!!! Shame on you CD. You are my least favorite server now. NSP now stinks too. I demand a dead HoD.

So if a small group party worked very hard to take a keep/tower, why punish them for not having the manpower to conduct a full sweep for hidden mesmers?

That to me is sad,

I believe no matter what size group and party you are, you deserve to be greatly awarded for your great efforts.

Not to be Punished by a a cheap unfair alternative method.

So as in my post above, we were the small group, the capping force about 15 to 20 strong. They HAD enough people to sweep but were too smug and arrogant to do so. A simple sweep of that tower would have taken one person, one minute to run. Why reward them for incompetence? If you have the manpower to take a tower or keep you have the manpower to sweep.

i do agree with you but what i don’t agree, any circumstances can happen right after a keep is taken. Of course it’s not an excuse to not to conduct a full sweep but how about if that fails, who’s fault is it than?

Is it their fault that a mesmer or mesmers can remain undetected for 15minutes to 4hours+?

Mesmers cannot perma stealth like a thief. It is just not possible even if you spec for it. As well the stealth mechanics for a mesmer have “tells” that are easy to spot, like that line of the ground for veil. Decoy grants 3 seconds of stealth with a 40 second CD, Veil gives 3 seconds with a 90 second CD, mass invis 6 and 90. There is no way they can remain undetected, it is just not possible even if the mesmer is specced for it as long as you know what to look for. Even if the mesmer chains Decoy, Veil and mass invis and times it perfectly it only adds up to 12 seconds of stealth, well below the 40 second CD of Decoy.

If a thief is with the mesmer you still have to look for the “tells”. The puff of smoke or the little house icon.

As I mentioned earlier if a mesmer is dead /emote by the body. Either /sit or/sleep. If your inactivity timer pops up and they have yet to recall screenshot and report that mesmer for using an exploit to extend their timeout timer.

Mesmers are not hard to detect. Know their hiding places and sweep.

Yesterday, at that very same NE tower, we had just capped it and I decided to sweep for mesmers. I found one just on the ledge under the Lord’s room. She knocked me over the edge the first time and the second time I came around she had set a portal up and jumped out of the tower. Well I happened to be on my mesmer and fully understood what she was attempting so I waited there until she ported back up and then knocked her over the edge onto the swords of my waiting teammates.

Scratch one mesmer, tower secured, time taken maybe a couple of minutes.

The wife was on her Mesmer, me on my Guardian one day when the enemy took our NE tower. They did not sweep. Since we were short on manpower she ported me in and we took the tower as a duo. A little while later they again capped that tower and again they did not sweep so the two of us took it back again. The THIRD time after they failed to sweep we were laughing so hard we forgot about the RI on the tower Lord and failed in the attempt.

Dead mesmers can extend their time out timer by using an exploit, actually dead anythings can do it. When babysitting a dead mesmer I will /sit or /sleep as soon as that mesmer dies. When my timer is up and I have to move due to inactivity and the mesmer has yet to recall I screenshot and report as an exploit.

I solo roam quite a bit and never had the OPs problems to the point I have to ALt F4. Depending on what character I am running, and I have 9 level 80s to choose from, I win or I lose. If I lose against someone with a specific build I can usually counter that build with another toon but invariably I win more then I lose. To ALT F4 from a losing battle is just admitting that well, you suck!

Oh and I have put down many a good condition necro with my mesmer but then again, my mesmer is a power build, not a condition build.

In relation to my above post perhaps this could be considered. Take my Weaponsmith, currently level 500 in his trade and has successfully created two Ascended weapons. With each success the requirements in material and time to create the next one are lowered. He understands the material he is working with and is capable of doing more with less. Since those weapons are Account bound crafting them for 9 alts would not be so onerous and you get that feeling of progressing your crafting ability.

So once reaching 500 in crafting the items crafted still provide experience and not grayed out as they currently are. Each time you “level” your craft past 500 the material requirements for the next item crafted are lowered by 25%. A level 500 weaponsmith could then progress through ranks. It could be capped at a given number of ranks but at least outfitting alts would be doable and if you only have one toon you are not missing out.

I am a confessed altaholic having 9 level 80 toons. At the same time I am also closing in on 60 years of age and to date have managed to craft 2 Ascended weapons, one for my Guardian and one for my Mesmer. I was lucky on RNG and found a third weapon which went to my engineer.

My issue is with the time gating and Laurel acquisition. With the addition of Ascended armor, the requirements needed to bring all my crafters to level 500 (I have leveled all crafts to at least 400 currently) and the materials that I will need to outfit everyone with Ascended armour and at least one weapon is out of reach. I just do not think I have enough time left on this earth to even get close to that. The recent changes in the amount of raw materials required to refine raw materials from 2:1 to 3:1 only exacerbated the problems driving up the cost of raw materials on the TP and extending the amount of time required to gather them yourself.

Do I need the Ascended stuff? Perhaps not but if you put it into the game as a form of vertical progression, which it is, it has to be obtainable within a reasonable amount of time AND with a reasonable amount of grind for players with 9 level 80’s like me and not just for those that play one toon.

In every game I have played I have always worked towards crafting myself the best items that could be crafted. Spending most of my time in WvW now I am finding that I am rapidly losing the desire to obtain those “best crafted” items because the time that is required to get those items is being extended with each and every patch/update. This leaves me with nothing other then WvW to do. How long that will keep me interested in this game before I move on remains to be seen. I do not gain the same sense of satisfaction by finding an item RNG versus creating that item myself.

Soulbinding items versus account binding, time gating for Laurels per account versus per character, time gating Ascended components, all add to artificially extending the time needed to reach the top. If you place that pinnacle too far away for people like myself to reach why should we begin that climb?

Although I am spending a bit of time in WvW I am not putting in the 8-14 hour daily stretches that I did during the season. Instead I am focusing on getting my crafters up to 500 to make Ascended stuff and since I have a crafter at 400 in each discipline it is going to take awhile. Boring but meh….have to do it sooner or later.

Here is the problem I face with the SoS change. I usually run as a duo with the wife’s Ranger. While she has her signet equipped she can move across the terrain at a steady pace. (key word steady) With my Guardian I have to stop, wait for the pulses and then move again. Yesterday when we were cruising the countryside in PvE opening Christmas boxes she had to constantly stop and wait for me to catch up. With the old system at least I could slot Retreat which along with SoS would allow me to keep pace.

I hate stop and go driving which is why I do not live in a city!

The way it is currently is a pain…not only do you have to stop but you have to stop just long enough to get the maximum buff. Move too soon and you lose, move too late and you lose. I am hating that change with a passion.

My Guardian was my first level 80, my mesmer my fourth or fifth. I have my Guardian up to rank 132 in WvW while my mesmer just made rank 172. So why am I playing my mesmer more in WvW?

I found a reason just the other day, I suppose one would call it an epiphany. Two warriors had sieged up and were camping our northern camp. When I went out with the Guardian it was wham, bam recall and repair yet when I went out with the mesmer they quickly backed off the steps and went back to use their siege versus a direct fight.

So I started thinking ’Why the difference" and realized a simple fact. With my Guardian, if I hurt one of the warriors, they could quickly and easily escape to the center of that camp to heal forcing me to either follow and draw all the camp aggro or give up the fight allowing one to heal while I focused on the other. Yet with my mesmer my clones could chase one until I shattered them while I switched focus to the other. Now the way they had the camp sieged and upgraded I could not do anything more then tease them until assistance arrived but the mesmer was far more viable then the guardian in those circumstances.

So where am I going with this? It is fair to say that Guardians WERE in a good position, four maybe five months ago. However over time and gradually, the other professions have been buffed to the point where they exceed that good position Guards once held. This “creep” has been gradual enough that a person playing only a Guardian will probably not even notice it but for those with multiple toons (I have 9 level 80’s) the change is quite evident.

My other classes have been starting to excel at tasks that were at one time a specialty for the guardian. In a given situation, I am finding other characters more viable now whereas my Guardian’s performance in those situations has either remained flat or in some cases, declined. So I play my mesmer more now. I would rather have warriors chase me, myself and I plus the guy that looks like me versus having to chase them down with the guardian while in combat.

DETH is really a lame guild. They specialize in spawn camping the northern camp in our BL trying to take out anyone that pops out the blue door with ballis, trebs, ac’s and even a golem in an upgraded camp but as soon as the numbers force them to actually fight they take their ball and go home. One on one they specialize in running way, must be a new build they are all trying! I have never seen them stop to fight unless they have better then 4:1 odds.

My argument is with Laurels. They are time gated AND account bound meaning you can only gain a given amount of laurels over a given period of time YET anything you purchase with those Laurels becomes soulbound on use. For this reason GW2 is extremely alt-unfriendly.

I can get dragonite ore with each of my characters running the same event in the course of a day yet I cannot do that for Laurels.

Being a HoD Mesmer is not quite so exciting. Since the enemy can easily discern that my mesmer is a bronze Legend they tend to want to run away from me unless they number 6 or more.

No. I will not put in extra effort to complete the achievements if the rewards are the same as they were for season one. Going around in circles taking the ruins? Trying to get “x” number of sentry caps? Doing the JPS? I did what I had to do to complete the season 1 achievement and then focused on the real WvW. As it was I got the key at the start of the second week and never once stepped foot in EB during the whole 7 weeks of the season.

Face it taking ruins and sentries gives you the chance at nothing whereas killing the enemy at least gives you the chance at a loot bag. Sad thing is when the season was over the wife and I took the time to go and do the “Nightmares Within” Living story set of achievements as we had not touched them during the 7 weeks of the season. We finished that in 2 days and got more from that then we did from those 7 weeks.

The people complaining need to engage their critical thinking skills a bit more. .

Well let us use a bit of critical thinking. You love your job and you do not really care about your pay cheque, you do the work for the sheer enjoyment of it so you put in your 40 hour weeks and are happy. Now management comes along and tells you that if your company finishes on top for the next quarter that you will be rewarded handsomely. So rather then your 40 hour weeks you put in 80 hour weeks over that time period and when you get that reward it is less then your regular pay cheque.

Would you still love your job as much?

I am not holding out much hope for WvW or for season 2.

As I posted in the other thread investing 7 weeks of time in WvW was just not worth the reward. Think about how much you would gain if you did Jormag once per day for those 7 weeks and look at the League first place rewards. Now compare the two! I would confidently state that the average WvW player put in more time daily in WvW to try and win the season, then it takes to defeat Jormag each day.

Were you guys really expecting a permanent finisher? Pah, it didn’t cost you gems to get it.

No I think expectations were that the rewards would be scaled to the time involved. Take a look at the rewards for 7 weeks of working to get your server to first place. Now how long do you think it would take to get those same rewards (minus the mini) if you had used that 7 weeks to run dungeons/temples/fractals.

Edit: Think about it in this way. A PvE player could have gotten the meta in a week easily and then gone back to PvE and run temples for the remaining 6 weeks. That PvE player would have gained way more then someone who devoted the full 7 weeks to WvW to insure their server finished as high as possible.

Forget the temples. If you just did Jormag daily for 1 week you would be better off then what was gained for 7 weeks.

It took you 8-14 hours a day for 7 weeks to finish the meta?

I finished the meta at the end of the first week. The time spent was to insure my server finished first in our league in the hope of gaining a decent reward. If I had used that first week and ran temple runs I would have been way further ahead.

100 dragonite ore = 1 ingot which can be acquired from 4 to 5 temple runs taking a lot less time then 7 weeks.

100 Empyreal fragments —- to add to the 3,800 in my vault

10 tomes of knowledge which equates to 15 skill points since I have 9 level 80 toons. How much time does it take to earn 15 skill points?

2 exotics, 4 rares and a pile of greens? Those 4 temple runs would give me the same thing if not more!

If that is what the rewards are then this cowboy is not going to be spending 8-14 hours a day in WvW next season.

After reading the majority of this thread I believe the simplest way to go would be as follows.

Keep the current blue dorito and the method of getting it as is. This would function in both PvE and WvW as an entry level Commander and it is all that is really required in the PvE environment of the game.

Add a new gated system to WvW which would give

A Star shaped Icon for Guild Commanders. Gate this to the level of of Guild upgrades that the guild has achieved. As each new level is reached the icon color progresses bronze-silver-gold for example.

A Moon shaped icon for field Commanders, multi guild. Gate this to the level of WvW achievements that the blue icon Commander has reached in WvW. Again the same color progression.

With each gated milestone the number of people under the Commander increments as does the functionality. Better supply info, sub Commanders and squads, etc.

If done this way each increment can be built and added to the game in stages both with the Guild and the Field Commander systems. It would not have to be added all at once and each module would be flexible enough to make any future changes required to balance things. It also keeps the 3 systems, the current blue icon, the Guild system and the WvW field Commander systems separate and easier to manipulate.

Losing Hope from Lack of Action

From in game comments the biggest beef seems to come from the lack of a proper reporting system for hackers and cheats. It is almost like ANET wants it difficult to deter as many as possible from making a report.

The second is my personal beef but it comes from the lack of any form of feedback to the players. I try to be very careful with my hack/cheat accusations. I tend to want to give the benefit of doubt before accusations but when I do file a report it would be nice to get some sort of feedback on whether what I reported was an actual cheat or just an erroneous observation.

If anyone has ideas on how ANET could improve this part of their game besides what I suggested above feel free to share. With enough constructive feedback we may be able to get them to notice?

I found it funny yesterday. FC is at our gates with an Omega golem with only 2 valiant defenders trying to take that golem out before the gate went down. Our hopes dropped when we seen another wave of red rolling towards our tower but we broke out laughing when Kain rolled over FCs golem and attackers. The battle then shifted away towards FC’s HoD spawn allowing us to repair the gates and put up some siege.

Ascended are difficult to get for a reason and they should stay bound.
However the crafting components for them should NOT be bound.

All depends if you are talking about Ascended weapons or Ascended trinkets. The trinkets are dependent on Laurels which are time gated AND per account. That is you cannot earn any more Laurels per day whether you have 1 character or 10. Making the trinkets soulbound on use rather then leaving them account bound makes little sense when you consider how they are earned.

It is not just ascended weapons, the Ascended Trinkets should be account bound. I have 9 level 80 characters and outfitting them all with time gated Ascended accessories is going to take me decades. Currently however if I have a condition build on one toon and want to change the build to a power build any Ascended Trinkets he has for the condition build become useless. I could, if they were account bound, give the condition build trinkets to my necro or engie but I cannot.

If Laurels are time gated AND account bound why are the items you buy with those Laurels NOT account bound?

Since you are running an Nvidia card you may be able to use the monitoring functions found in EVGA Precison X. It is an overclocking software but the I use it for the monitoring functions and the ability to set temperature thresholds which will automatically increase my gpu fan speeds.

For cpu temps I am not sure as it depends on your system build. Mine is built into the system motherboard.

I believe what was stated is that the ratings will fall back to the Glicko system. There will be a period of time between seasons allowing the Glicko to level out after all the transfers and the next season rankings will be determined that way.

I stated my preference for Commander tags in WvW long ago but will do so again here in a shortened version.

I would like to see WvWvW Commander tags tied into their experience in WvWvW. Different colors or shapes would denote more experienced Commanders which would be based off of how many Objectives they have captured, how many enemy kills, camp captures, etc. You know all that stuff that is already tracked as achievements.

This gets away from the Commander who purchases his badge and immediately starts barking orders on the field when many do not even have a clue what they are doing at that point. As a Commander earns his “bars” so to speak he can command a larger group size, has more options to view supply, mark objectives, etc. The current “blue dorito” is sufficient for PvE where for the most part it acts as a rally point on the map but within WvW you tend to want to follow the more successful Commanders and ignore some of the other doritos until they get a bit of seasoning under their belts.

If a Commander can garner the support of the troops and lead them without demeaning them then they will gain the support over time to move up in rank. Believe me there are some people out there that should never have bought a tag to the point where I cringe when they “tag up” and start calling for everyone to “stack on me” to take a camp while a tower or keep is being attacked.

Well FC has one Commander that would do anything to capture an objective. Last matchup he “glitched” through the NW tower gate and proceeded to destroy siege and attack the defenders inside so for him at least using zoom hack would not be a stretch.

Although I have respect for most Fergs that Commander never did answer to his actions so I have none for him.

Prior to getting into the topic I will give just a bit of history of my gaming experience. I am 57 years old and began online gaming back in the days of script based games, public dialports and BBS’s. I have played many,many different MMORPGs since that point in time and will probably continue to do so but GW2 is starting to leave a sour taste that I just cannot shake.

So the purpose of this thread is to point out, as constructively as possible, ANET’s flaws and mishandling of bugs/exploits/hacking although with their policies I suspect it will garner me an infraction or possibly my first ever ban from a gaming forum.

In most if not all of the other games I have played there was a direct option to report someone for using an exploit or hacking from within the game. In GW2 you have to jump through hoops to make a report. This needs to be fixed and sooner rather then later. ANET wants us to provide screenshots/video of possible infractions yet they do not support us in the effort to do so and that lack of support is glaring.

If I witness a possible case of someone using a hack in-game it happens over the course of a few minutes before that person is gone. At that point in time I have to have video capture software at my fingertips and be able to turn it on quickly and record what is happening on my screen. Other games made it possible to contact a GM who would “ride on your shoulder” or be there invisible in order to observe for themselves and to make a decision if what you were seeing was a verifiable hack.

Other games published the fact that they suspended “X” amount of people for hacking even to the point of what type of hack was used but here it is all hush hush. If I reported what I believe to be someone using a hack I do not even get the courtesy of a reply to let me know if I was correct in my assumption or not. Any forum posts are immediately infracted and locked/deleted. I want to know if what I just witnessed was an actual hack or just a misconception on my part.

I posted on the NW tower bug that allows people to bypass closed gates/walls. At that time I caught on a screenshot an ANET employee who told us that it would be made a top priority issue but 4 months later nothing has been done as it happened again 4 days ago.

There is the ongoing argument over mesmers dying at gates and being rezzed through them. Not once has ANET appeared in any of those threads to tell us it is or is not an exploit. There have been discussions on how those dead people can extend their “time out for inactivity” timer yet to this date you can still manipulate that timer.

Arrow carts with their ability to hit anywhere in a tower if one manipulates his windowed screen size is another issue ANET chooses to ignore rather then address again one way or the other.

So my suggestions:
1) Make it easier to report hacking suspects so it is quick and efficient
2) Post on whether or not something is an exploit or is working as intended
3) Provide feedback to people reporting hacks verifying that it was or was not a hack
4) Post the number of people banned for cheating/hacking on a regular bases
5) Provide in-game GMs that go go into the field to verify reports immediately on receiving them.
6) Provide even a quarterly report on game bugs that have been reported and a tentative “fix” date. (such as that bugged tower)

And above all quit infracting/banning people for posting about hacks/cheats/exploits as this only leads us to believe you value the possible revenue loss versus the satisfaction of the customer when it comes to the integrity of your game.

If we had a few tanks that would of been a completely diff fight, I should have known you were gonna bring a bunch of ham warriors and a guard. Like I said we didn’t have anyone on. Brought the only 5 I had, Seems you had to pull your best crew out to fight. Most we had are still new to pvp. Like I said ill Chalk it up as a loss. Don’t let your heads get too big. N I got lots of bite, I like 1v1s and 2v2s myself..

Changing Guardian Renewed Focus?

As my Guardian specializes in solo capping camps in WvWvW I use the Hounds of Balthazar rather then renewed focus as I find them way more useful. The Virtues are just too weak to bother with more then once during a camp cap and if I do things right I can be waiting for the camp to change color before the swords appear. Using Renewed focus versus the Hounds I have been unable to get to that point.

With a total of 398 world ranks scattered across 9 characters I appreciate this move. My highest toon has 158 world ranks, my second 123. Now I can at least play my other toons more without feeling that I am lacking something that the 2 advanced characters have. I have not done the math and since WXP scales in the amount required to level even if I get 200 ranks across all toons I will be happily rewarded for all my hard work.

From what ANET stated the next season will not begin until sometime in the New Year, they did not give any definitive dates. Things will revert back to what they were pre-season allowing them to rest the scores.

A few of you HoD’ers are gloating and calling people crybabies for pointing out the league flaws. Yea, you are on the lucky end of a system none of us created, congrats.

I felt it would be appropriate to share some HOD quotes from matches prior to leagues when they were losing (Most of these are from the same people calling us crybabies in this thread)

Here is one more you can add for the next time.

“Show us where the bad HoD touched you!”

And think about this carefully. Season 2 will not start until well into the new year. There will be a pile of changes between now and that point in time and HoD could very well end up in Bronze again. Scared yet?

The QQ ing is getting a bit much. I have been on HoD since the beginning, I missed the downward fall as I did not start in WvW until we were close to rock bottom, a couple months after the game released, but I have been here scratching and clawing to help HoD move back upwards since. When Kaineng made their rapid move to the top it was all we could do to hold on to our northern camp but boy did we fight for control of that camp.

Prior to the season start when we were supposedly “tanking” I was still in there fighting and so were the rest of the old guard. So pardon me if I resent the insinuation that the whole server tanked as much as GoM and FC would resent the fact if I blanket labelled everyone on their servers crybabies and not just the ones crying here.

So suck it up Princesses and deal with it.

Now FC, when you find yourself inside a closed gate, even if it is due to a game bug the honorable thing to do would be to leave the tower until the gate was down. Now this FC COMMANDER no less was busy trying to kill siege and defenders rather then leaving the tower. A pathetic show of sportsmanship.

Let me recollect some here. The first time I met you in that SE camp you already had the camp cleared and you were waiting for the cap. In fact I barely made it into the circle. Now at that point I was alone, all by myself, yet you decided to run for the hills when your health dropped below 50%. Now the strange thing is that you decided to run out of the range of the camp circle which allowed me to rez the Super and the Quartermaster and send me a party invite versus fighting for that camp. You expected me to hand it over to you on a silver platter.

Now I cannot help it if you decided to keep running and you ran straight into more HoD. What would you expect in the HoD BL? Perhaps rather then begging me to let you have the camp flip you should have recalled to your own BL and cleared your camps? You see, I did not call in the other HoD, he responded to a threat that turned out to be just a mosquito.

Oh by the way, I said he above as there were not four others. When you ran out of the gate in abject fear you ran into a minion master.
