Given that I had proposed awhile back a taxation system. The more you upgrade your towers/keeps/camps in your BL the more “taxes” the local populace pays for the protection you give them. Those taxes are paid in the form of credits at the Quartermaster for future upgrades and are banked even if the structure you upgrade gets swarmed and flipped. That would give you the credits to begin the upgrade process all over again once the structure is back in your hands. Since this works for the home BL only (enemy peasants are not going to pay you taxes willingly) it gives the home BL defense team an advantage.

I know exactly where Ark is coming. Upgrading a keep to full T3 takes money that you cannot recoup easily in WvW, especially a keep on your own BL. If you have the time to upgrade that means there is no sustained pressure on your BL during that time period, thus you put out the money for upgrades but occasional camp recaps do not give you an equal return on investment. During a period of heavy pressure you do not have time to run upgrades other then drop in some siege.

Many times I have logged out with the BL full T3 only to log back in after sleeping to find it papered. All that coin invested is gone with no hope of return as you have to start spending all over again. The current design of WvW gives full advantage to the attacking force with the design of the Keeps, the ability to take out siege from the base of the wall easier then the defenders can take you out and the easy access to omega golems.

Which brings us to BL defense. Of the 4 maps, the home BL requires the most responsibility to upgrade and defend. On an enemy BL the responsibility is not as great as it is expected for the enemy to recapture their towers and keeps. In Ebg you are essentially responsible for your triangle, the rest is no more then a karma train. Because of these varying levels of responsibility you will see Commanders say to hell with the BL and go to an enemy BL or to EBG. The reward for effort is greater for the attacking force which is why EotM is so popular.

It is all dependent on the type of random number generator they are using and although they were going to have a CDI discussion on it they have never stated the type of rng. If it uses a “fixed” seed then it is highly possible to see results like you detail above. Just look up fixed seed random number generators for an explanation but in essence that type of generator will repeat patterns after a given number of returns. So if your “seed” number returns you one set of numbers before they start repeating and your friends “seed” number returns a different set he could very well get better loot then you and it has nothing to do with luck.

Bagpipes are good in that you can sustain notes on them. To make things sound decent you need something that will do that be it bagpipes or another instrument. The main issue we had with LotRo and its music system was the lack of sustainability on most instruments and that people would just convert midi to abc without making volume adjustments or pitch adjustments for each instrument being played in a song. The better half, being a musician would spend hours on a file to get it to sound right. Almost drove me crazy at times!

As someone who has been next to a bagpipe while it was being played indoors, I have to say “FOR THE LOVE OF GOD, NO”. Seriously. That tone would just be awful. It’d be like the trumpet, only even worse.

In LotRo which uses the ABC music system the bagpipes can be made to sound pretty awesome if the person that transcribes your ABC file from a midi knows music and can make the necessary adjustments. Here is one we did and recorded in our early days in LotRO using the bagpipes.

Edit: That video which shows 5 players is actually the wife with 3 accounts and myself with 2 accounts. Our band was requested to play at Guild functions, RP events and HAD to be at all the Festivals. Sadly due to a move and change in IP our current IP does not have the bandwidth for us to do that anymore. We made alot of coin from tips in that game!

Duelers in WvW and attitudes

Since I spend my time in the home BL, Red is Dead unless the duelers are at the Windmill. I will back off if a teammate tells me it is a duel but I will also tell him or her to take it to the windmill. I will then make a point of monitoring the south camp as too many so called “duelers” will run down to cap the camp in order to gain stacks.

Truthfully however I do not mind runners. Normally just emoting /laugh will shame them enough to return and fight. What I hate are the lame ALT F4’ers that just cannot bear to be stomped, especially those that initiate the fight and then lose it. I was in the process of taking out a sentry point a couple days back with my Ranger when I was jumped by a hammer warrior. After downing him he immediately AlT F4’d out to avoid the stomp. If you have the nerve to attack someone then by all means take it like a man and don’t wimp out when you lose.

I will admit it! I ran just yesterday as I was heading to solo the sw camp on our BL. Just as I was entering the camp a red sea poured over the cliff and came directly at me. There must have been 25 or more of them so I turned and ran screaming for my life! I am so ashamed of myself.

I run dual GeForce GTX 660ti cards in my system with a GT 430 as a physics card. After installing the latest NVIDIA drivers along with GeForce Experience I would crash at least once per day if not more and would have to wait until the graphics drivers recovered. After some investigation I rolled back to the 334.98 drivers and have not had a single graphics related crash since that time and it has been over 3 weeks now. NVidia keeps bugging me to update the drivers but I am not listening!

As I suggested in another thread the system already keeps track of each and every piece of siege, hence the timers. If they placed a siege “mechanic” in each tower/keep with a map of the siege placement under his control (trebs are currently shown on mini-map which would suggest that the game knows where all pieces of siege are placed) a person refreshing siege could open the interface, select which siege they would like to refresh and tell the guy to get to work. All refreshed siege in that keep would be under one timer, siege would not get missed by the next shift coming on, and it would save people time. If it is a piece of troll siege then that piece is not selected for refresh on the mechanics interface.

Edit: Forgot…for extra badges or silver depending on the amount of siege under the mechanic’s control the timer could be extended to a max of 3 hours.

During the tourney I was fighting a FA thief with my engie. After dropping my supply crate and turrets I made a tactical error and left the radius of the supply crate. I was bleeding away my last few hit points after he hit me with shadowstep, heal on CD and too far away from the crate to take advantage of the heals. He had shadow-stepped to the opposite side of my crate radius and in his eagerness to finish me off he ran directly at me, unstealthed, right through the center. End result netted, with half a dozen turrets on him he melted faster then I did.

Blame it on the F2P business model of the game. By going this route companies are not held to the same standards that a subscription game is. Customers can no longer withhold the money. If this issue were new I would grant them the benefit of doubt but it is the same issue with the season 1 rewards.

Years ago I had taken my car in for a complete tune-up before leaving on vacation and just after picking it up, two blocks away from the dealership it flooded and died. I got it going and 2 more blocks same thing, gasoline all over the engine, flooded. I called the dealership and told them I wanted it picked up and fixed immediately and was told that everyone had left for the weekend and it would not be done until Monday. Since I had paid via cheque I threatened to stop-payment if it was not done in two hours and 2 hours later I picked up my car at the dealership with no further issues.

There is no way a customer can do that with the current business model and is one of the reasons more companies are moving towards such a model. Since the revenue stream is based off of indirect sales through the gem store the onus is not on them to answer directly the customer’s concerns.

Sick of condi builds when roaming

I run a condi build on my engie and with full stacks can do over 2000 points in condition damage. 1v1 he can hold his own and usually come out ahead against most other classes but 2 hammer warriors can keep him locked down and destroy him before he even has the opportunity to use any of his skills. Necros can be a pain if they transfer the conditions back. So in effect I would argue that some power builds such as a hammer warrior are op and should be nerfed and necros as well!

The design of castle/keep/tower walls is terrible and has been mentioned a number of times. Enemies on the ground can easily hit you but if you are on the wall you get the “obstructed” message. With the AOE cap a well organized blob can go around the outside of the wall and destroy most siege with relative impunity. With the design the way it is now, Troy would have fallen in 9 minutes versus holding out for 9 years.

If it is meant to be siege warfare then it has failed miserably and is more akin to a corrupted Blitzkreig warfare where the number of attackers take the place of the tanks.

It would not make any difference if the person is out to grief you with swiftness. For example, a Guardian has 3 ways to grant swiftness if they have a staff equipped. Symbol of Swiftness that increases the timer as long as you are in the symbol radius, Retreat and Save Yourselves. You would have to right click and remove 3 times.

I had sieged up our Bay including a balli and sup ac in bay Lord’s room. Another person parked 5 golems there as well. As I was doing the refreshing I am absolutely 100% certain that I had refreshed all of the siege including golems. The stuff on inner walls and outer had 29 minutes left before I made the next round. Those golems and ac and balli had all despawned. As I was the only one doing the refreshing I had timers set to tell me when the next round was coming up.

Over the course of the past few weeks I have noticed that some siege when refreshed does not reset the timer and it slowly over time disappears. You might have two pieces of siege in one area and one will have 20 minutes left the other 15 seconds.

So question is has anyone else found siege timers erratic?

It is a pain in WvW especially when you get the call “SW camp under attack”. So port to the SW Keep and swim across the moat to get there and lo and behold your stacks are gone. As soon as you hit the water as it is extremely difficult to keep your head above water when in a hurry and even going off the docks drops you under.

What is so difficult to tie the stacks to the equipped weapon? If the weapon is unequipped the stack is gone. Technically your land weapons are still equipped on your “paper doll” when you swap to water weapons. Tie the stacks to that weapon and that weapon slot. The way it is currently they have tied the weapon and stacks to the weapons skills bar and not the equip slots.

Siege Timers

So we had a good discussion tonight on this and here is a proposal for siege decay in regards to a “Metered Solution”.

1) All siege begins with a 1 hour timer as it does now.
2) A “Siege Maintenance Engineer” is installed in Citadel with siege placement numbers for each tower and keep. Camps will be excluded. So for example NE Tower 4 pieces, NW Tower 6 pieces.
3) Paying the Engineer coin or badges will increase the timer to a max of 3 hours per location
4) Amount paid is determined by the amount of siege in the objective multiplied by (x) amount of silver per piece = Y amount of increased time. So as an example 4 pieces of siege times 5 silver per piece = 30 extra minutes. (very rough example)
5) Ticker at the top of screen or on minimap will tell everyone when the next update is due.
6) There would be 3 Siege Engineers per map, one at each spawn point for each team. As a tower or keep flips the specific tower/keep counter for that objective is reset and grayed out if your team does not own it.

What does it accomplish?
A) Lowers the tedium/necessity of having to run a refresh route every 45 minutes.
B) Takes away the issue of some siege being “missed” as the person doing the refreshing is not always the one that placed the siege.
C) Adds a gold and badge sink that should compensate for less blueprints being used.
D) By limiting it to a 3 hour max period still allows someone to let the siege in one tower/keep lapse by not paying for the upkeep in case of griefers.
E) Easily seen when siege upkeep is due as all siege in each towers/keep will be on one timer which should also lower server processing requirements.
D) Everyone can put in what they can afford to increase the timer to the max allowed just by visiting the Maintenance Engineer.

There is a possible solution. One person mentioned in map chat tonight that refreshing siege was like popping coins into a parking meter. So why would that not work? If you want the siege to expire it will function as it does now, but during those peak times when refreshing takes away from defending allow us to pop some silver in the meter to extend the timer to a max of three hours.

Looting in WvW is perfect the way it is.
I am soooo happy I don’t have to run to a corpse to loot it, especially when that corpse in the middle of an enemy zerg.
If you die and miss the precious loot just get over it, it was probably a spike anyway

Sadly it is not all spikes. At a tower defense about a week back I was not only surrounded by bags but a wooden chest as well. However I was the second last to go down, the last was an enemy warrior. They got the tower, I lost the chest! ;(

Longbow rangers will beat my necro easily, the build I roll relies on two line-of-sight skills to set up a combo and the pet has a hitbox the size of Europe. I plug an important skill into the pet, gg cripple vulnerability forever. Dead necro.

My engineer has the same problem, but my guardian could chop down a dozen rangers without blinking.

kitten I have to work on my Guardian. A good Ranger with longbow will take him down easily whereas with my engie or mesmer the Ranger is toast.

Collisions would be problematic as most have stated. What the current issue is is that AOE’s trump siege. Make it so that only siege can take out siege and so a 40 man blob cannot run alongside a keep wall destroying it with impunity and watch the dynamics of the game change!

I am curious if others are having issues with the skills and skill bars since the patch.

On numerous occasions already my main skill bar has gone blank after entering and exiting water.

With my mesmer although I would hit Decoy, Veil or Mass Invisibility the skills would fire and be placed on cool down but my mesmer would not enter stealth and would be visible even if I spammed those 3 skills one after another leading to a quick demise.

In most cases it takes a complete re-log to rectify the problem.

Anyone else?

I do not believe if ANET has ever confirmed what form of random number generator they are using. Some are sad to say less random than others especially if they used a fixed “seed” number. Over time a fixed seed will return a repeating set of numbers as explained here part way down the page under the heading “Setting Seeds”.

Stealth Thieves Still OP

I run a straight up power mesmer and there are very few thieves I will lose to. A well planned “moa” and they cannot stealth and melt easily under fire. When the wife roams with me with her condition mesmer we do not lose to thieves. As soon as one moa expires another is ready! Once we kill them a couple of times they run as soon as our two tags are spotted on the horizon!

Seems there is quite a bit of this happening over the past few days. The wife received e-mail from ANET Friday that someone was attempting to access her account from Korea, Taiwan and China and asked if she wanted to authorize that access. We had been on hiatus and had not played nor logged in for over 2 months. She did not grant access at that time. She immediately tried to log into her account but was unable to until she went to her account and reset her password. After gaining access she found all of her characters had been stripped. Seems the person from Taiwan won out over the other two. The time spread between her receiving the e-mails from ANET to her checking and getting back her account was 8 hours.

If they tried to gain access from a different IP which triggered ANET"S security system to send the authorization e-mails who then granted that authorization? Her e-mail was not compromised and they would have had to have access to that e-mail address to grant the authorization.

Way back at the dawn of online gaming (yes I was there) there was very little of that type of abuse going around. It was a new genre for everyone and people treated people with respect, after all they had lives outside of the game.

Sadly today is not the case. More people spend more time in the game then they spend outside of it “socializing”. They do not know any other way as they no longer experience that type of socialization in real life. In the game they can be bigger,badder and better then they could ever hope to be in the real world and they will take great pains to let everyone know that they are bigger, badder and better. Their way is the only way to play the game and everyone else is just a stupid “noob”.

Over the years the anonymity of online gaming has strangely given these people an identity that they do not have outside of the game, any game and they are afraid of losing that identity.

I am not sure on how this can be fixed but here is an idea. Make it so that siege in a tower/keep/castle can only be placed by the Guild that claims that structure. Anyone can build and maintain it but the claiming guild is the only one able to drop siege. If the structure is unclaimed then only a set amount of siege can be built, that is the siege cap for that structure is lower. Make it also possible then for a guild to claim more then one structure, for example on a BL there are 4 towers and 3 keeps. Allow a specific guild the ability to claim one of each per map and once claimed the de-spawn timer for that siege is increased. For example the current system will de-spawn an ac in one hour if not refreshed. Increase that to two or 3 hours if it is within the control of a guild claimed structure.

The only ones that can complain about the warrior meta as far as speed both in and out of combat are Guardians. Ever try and catch a fleeing warrior when to get your speed buff you now have to stop and stand in the circle?

Did not try to cap sentries or camps…just bounced…and bounced…and bounced…..when she was not running away. If there was only 1 HoD she would try to backstab but when it failed she would immediately run away and refuse to fight that one person again. If there were two of us it was just run away. Now I had my mesmer in, a clothie, so I should have been an easy mark for a thief but all she did was run away, as a moa mind you. I figured she may as well look like a chicken if she wanted to role play one so badly.

FC it does not really hurt when you die. You can do better then that! Come on!

My apologies to the rest of FC. I have it narrowed down to one guild … NINE. 3v3 situation tonight, on their side 2 thieves and a warrior versus on our side 2 mesmers and a necro. They would not get close enough to fight, a thief would shadowstep in, take a hit at us and run for the hills. It was only when they got a fourth that they decided to attack and that was after there were only two of us. The rest of FC puts up some great fights but that guild is just how shall I put it…..bleh!

Good fights this week but HoD managed to turn our BL a pretty shade of blue before reset. Have to give an NSP uplevel credit. I caught him in a golem trying to solo the sw tower, he had the gate down and was moving in. So nice try!

It was in the wee hours of the morning, or late late at night depending on your perspective when about a dozen NSP decided to attack our Bay with an omega golem. We rallied our defenders, all 7 of them, to fight a battle we expected to lose as our Bay was paper. It was in the wee hours of the morning, or late late at night depending on your perspective when about a dozen SF decided to attack our Bay with an omega golem. We rallied our defenders, all 7 of them, to fight a battle we expected to lose as our Bay was paper. Imagine our surprise when we stopped the attack at the outer gate with mere fractions of life left in the gate, the golem destroyed and the attacking force annihilated! Better luck next time SF but it was a good fight!

Arghh I meant NSP…..not SF. My apologies, I will correct the error immediately but it was a short nights sleep.

Mesmer illusions have much the same issue and I do not know how it can be fixed. Many times I have an enemy targeted but if they stealth or dodge my illusions target the closest viable target be it a firefly, a raptor or even a chicken. I just thank my lucky stars that the chickens in WvW are not OP.

Con’s
- Time gates hurt players with more time (by this I mean players with more time run up against time gates more and their time becomes less rewarded over time.)
- Repeatable time gates add “pressure” to complete the content before the gate resets, this can add fatigue to players play experience (If I have 15 things I need to do every time I log in, I never feel like I get to do what I want to do.)
- Time gates are very calculable (You know how many dailies you need to get x reward.) It’s hard to say how many days it takes to hit level 80 as it’s very dependent on too many factors. Knowing the time can sometimes make it feel more daunting or tedious.

Chris you missed one important “Con” in regards to time gates. Yes it would balance nicely between players with lots of time versus those with little time, IF everyone only played one character but the way the gates are currently set up it hurts those with multiple toons. (9 level 80’s in my case) The more characters you have the more detrimental time gates are to keep those with multiple characters interested in the game.

If for example (and this is only an example) I wanted to equip all my characters in Ascended it would take an inordinate amount of time to do so. Now I am retired and have time but I do not think I have that much time left! Not only do I have to level each one of my crafters to 500 and pass through time gates on the way but Laurels are time gated, refinements are time gated, and so on. With multiple characters it is an exponential increase in time required and that is assuming I want only one set (power,condition, mixed) of Ascended gear for each toon.

That is why I suggested earlier that once a payer crafts an Ascended piece of equipment in a given discipline the requirements in time/materials/effort to craft the next piece in that same discipline should be lowered.
