It’s just normal in mmos, the systems are just too complex to fully test before going live. If you like the genre, better get used to it.
I am quite familiar with the genre as I have been playing MMO’s since the days of public dialports and BBS’s. Not all games suffer from the patch day blues as some do more testing before releasing the patch to live.
The old adage holds true and ANET seems to have written it. Over the past year there has only been the September 30/2014 patch that did not introduce new bugs, problems, glitches requiring a subsequent follow-up patch. With the recent troubles patching the game (just look at the Bugs forum) it is getting more and more frustrating to play. Go to log in…patch to download…next day..patch to download.
I am not sure if ANET has a test server for the patches but it is rapidly ruining my enjoyment of the game as every major patch seems to introduce 4 or more follow ups.
In the Silverwastes all they would have to do is make any area outside the main camp a non afk zone. If you have to go afk then running back from the main camp is not that onerous but you would be out of range for any rewards.
Methinks the OP has an axe to grind……..
The AI can be beat by watching the pattern and then working around it. The SP in the Malchor’s Leap cavern with the Eye is a prime example. Once you figure out the pattern getting in and out solo is easy. There are no patterns to follow in WvW, a human player is not going to follow a script so there is no “easy button”. You cannot go to a Dulfy’s to find a walkthrough on how beat an enemy player. Therefore it takes more effort to beat a real player then it does an AI script. People just do not want to put out the effort, it is easier to complain about it until it is changed.
On one of my characters I needed the nw tower Vista for map completion on an enemy map. It was the wee hours and nobody was on from our server so the wife and myself set up a catapult, took the tower and got our Vista. That said I know many people who complain that getting the two southern vistas on an enemy map was far too difficult and would ask if there was a “zerg” nearby to assist but like I stated some people want things handed to them the easy way.
In PvE there is no threat, no risk, to getting PoIs or Vistas. Remove risk and you dumb down the game for the lazy.
As somebody earlier already mentioned, it’s only about 4%. And it’s actually the easiest part, if you’re lucky with your server and rotation. And even if you are unlucky on either or both, it just takes time, a lot of patience and frustration, and not an ounce of skill…
I have finished the wvw maps on multiple characters, by just waiting and waiting and waiting…. Oh and by respawning, being killed while running unarmed, naked (before the armor damage cost removal) and respawning again. I’m back at waiting again (will at least be a month total) for our server to finally turn blue so I can finally finish the wvw maps on two more characters…
What gets me is the pattern is endemic in all games. After a certain point in time the game begins to “dumb down” or be made easier to appease those that cannot be bothered to work at something. Eventually there are flashing neon signs pointing the way, thinking and planning become secondary to following the crowd, dungeons become scripted where everyone does exactly what is needed to be done to get it done in record time, innovation is gone. The game starts to hold your hand and at that point I start searching for new horizons.
I went and got 100% world completion on 9 characters with a lot of perseverance. Now they are going to give it to you on a silver platter.
Sad…..
Going forward this pattern is likely to continue until the expansion is released. Do not expect much in content and do not expect it on a regular basis until that point in time.
It would work better if the Guild bank were first come first served, that is only one member can open the vault at a time and with the Guild Leader given the option to shut down all access if necessary.
In the beginning it was a 2:1 ratio for silk scraps to bolts. As everyone was pushing to get to T6 crafting and needed gossamer silk soon became overly abundant so they made the change to a 3:1 ratio scraps to bolts. Mithril remained at 2:1 ore to ingot as a mithril node is not dependent on an rng drop of an item to salvage to silk.
When ascended came in it took awhile before people hit that 500 cap and started making damask but the ratio remained at 3:1 for a bolt of silk. As well Damask is needed for all armours, light, medium and heavy and silk quickly became the bottleneck in the equation. It will not level off until the bubble of people currently at level 80 and crafting ascended levels off.
What could be done? Create a stock exchange (literal) where you can trade the raw materials up or down as needed. If I have an abundance of gossamer I should be able to trade it 1 gossamer for 2 silk, 2 linen for 1 silk, 1 orichalcum for 2 mithril, and the same for all other raw materials from kitten T6.
It would not take long before things balanced out.
You do realize that the majority of the PvE community uses Berserker and you’d have to be some kind of moron to believe something as stupid as this. Just compare the price of Powerful Blood to other t6 mats. EVERYONE uses Berserker because it’s good. Simmer down and learn how to play, buddy.
A good player with any armor can outplay a bad player in zerker. All Beserker is is a crutch for lousy players.
I did it slightly different on my Guardian. I went with Celestial armor and Traveler runes so I play with scepter/focus and GS and do not have to have my staff equipped for speed.
All depends. Craft boosters and lots of gold it won’t take long at all depending on which profession you take. I found artificer to be the most difficult one to raise to 500 and tailor would be the most expensive due to the silk shortage. There are some decent crafting guides available so look them up, do the math and good luck. I did not have that much gold when I leveled all my crafters to 500 so it took me longer as I had to grind out the mats.
In a game based on vertical progression decision making on vault content is easy, just delete the inferior stuff as you make new and better stuff. However in a game based on horizontal progression that easy decision becomes a lot more complicated when it comes time to decide what to keep and what to get rid of. For example, if you are creating Mawdrey II you will need at least a dozen bank vault spaces to store the parts until you get it all together and that does not include the materials tab.
Mystic clovers, Gift of Battle, Gifts of Exploration, Pact Tokens, foxfire clusters, clothing tonics, potions such as endless toymaker, warm and cold, 14 different boosters, doubloons, Tomes of Knowledge and so on. All of these could be better stored in a different manner and not in the general vault tab. Each Living Story update adds a few more items to this list so I do understand the OPs point.
As far as the materials tab goes stack size should be increased for the raw materials. For example if a full stack of silk is 250 bolts make it so a full stack of silk scraps turned into bolts would fill the bolt stack. If I use all my mithril ingots I should be able to restock the ingots with raw mithril ore in stock and then go out and refill my ore bins.
If a guild requires instant and 100% rep they had better return instant and 100% assistance. If I need help with a quest, a jump puzzle, a POI in WvW they had better be there instantly to give that help otherwise that 100% rep is not being returned in kind.
Although I have 9 characters all with 100% map completion I posted something quite awhile back that could help. With the upcoming expansion it would be a good time to introduce it and that would be a “Cartographer” profession. Cartographers have to make the vellum or parchment for maps and actually map out each and every area including POIs, Vistas and Waypoints. Hearts cannot be “mapped” so they would remain out of the equation but everything else would be plotted. The maps would be account bound once created and if “used” grant all of your alts everything except the hearts.
Check out the Thermaltake level 10 GTX case. Lots of room, can handle extra fans, or a liquid cooling system, filters on air intakes, and 5 hot swap drive bays. Currently running 2 1.8 terabyte hardrives, one 100 gig SSD and one 170 gig SSD. (one empty bay in just in case )
I have my computers built to order at http://www.ncix.com/
I am guessing that the LS will take us up to the point where Mordremoth is ready to die. At that point the expansion will cover the preparations for that battle in much the same way Orr served as the staging area for Zhatain. It will give us 3-4 maps and will be similar to what we seen in Orr with the exception that the minions will be plant based. The following living story will then pick up on another Elder dragon and start all over again.
I want a statue of each of my 9 characters killing Zhatain and I do not want to see a statue of that leech Trahearne anywhere near my home instance.
Sorry but this is the exact same awesome updates we have had this year! With bosses and loot and fights etc , filled with lore and story. New content in it all.
// Zinniy
Uh, this is the only update we have had this year. Just saying.
For people that have been playing since launch the content may seem to be too easy but face it, the veterans have learned all the ins and out and subtleties of the game. if you introduce too much “difficult” content to satisfy the vets then you will lose the newer players and face it, vets are not going to buy as many gems as the newer players as they already have most of the gem store items.
The Sylvari have two factions currently, the ones from the Grove and the Nightmare court and they are at odds with each other. Will racial preservation force them to settle their differences in order to survive a racial cleansing? Another interesting point is the Pale Tree, mother to the Sylvari. Did the dragon actually attempt to kill her or just to weaken her and if she did birth the firstborn 25 years before current date was Mordremoth her consort?
It is going to depend highly on the timing. If it is going to be an expansion as the video in the last LS update hinted when will it be released? If the release date is late this year or next what is going to fill the time period in between? Are there any more chapters in the current LS or is this the end of the line until the expansion is released?
So many questions…..

Although it still drops to 0 and will start and stop I have had better results over the past few patches by going into safe mode with network support and then stating the downloader. The wife and I run the same machines and although I am finished the download she is still trying. The only difference is I did mine in safe mode.
It does not fix the issue but it helps a bit.
ANET announces the development of GW3 where they use a new random number generator to randomize everything. Players will not have the onerous chore of picking class, race or profession as the game will do it for you. Every day you log in will be a new gaming experience with the generator deciding whether you go into PvE, PvP, or replacing the failed experiment that was WvWvW the new 8 bit jump puzzles.
As added features everyone will get a mount, which of course will be randomly generated if they reach all the achievements which include things such as killing 10 million boss enemies or petting 50 million different animals during regular game play. No need for race changes, class changes, sex changes, makeover kits, as the random number generator gives you all of that and more.
There will be no leveling required as everyone will start at maximum level (incidentally the max is currently capped at level 1).
Do not hold your breath waiting for Jeweler to go to level 500. They sort of boxed themselves in when they put the Ascended rings and trinkets on a vendor for laurels and removing them from the vendor or making them obsolete would remove a sink for those laurels. That is my guess on why jewelry has not yet been pushed to 500. For chef there is the problem of foods becoming too powerful and a total revamp/scaling of the current foods would have to be done first which would upset too many people.
I do not delete my characters once creating them, never have and never will.
Auto sort will stack items of the same kind to their maximum sized stack and order inventory on type, description or other parameters. LotRO, which allows 3rd party addons had some extremely good inventory sorters the last time I played that game. It is especially nice if you can set bank tabs or inventory bags to specific types of items. The closest GW2 has is the different bags such as invisible or crafting and it will compact inventory but it is a bare bones sorter at best.
I have 9 level 80’s with no intention of creating a new character unless a new class/race is introduced so for me they are a total waste. It is not only the Tomes of Knowledge but the Tomes of mentorship do the same thing and since I have taken all my toons through to the end of their personal story they are once again a waste.
27 Tomes of Knowledge + 40 Tomes of Mentorship + 25 experience scrolls = 0
For a Guardian I would rather see a Crossbow versus a longbow. Warrior and Ranger already use longbows.
800 gems for an extra character slot versus 2,000 for a race change? Considering the sheer number of experience boosters and level boosters out there right now it is just not worth it. I could, if I wanted to, create a new character and have him to 80 in just a few seconds as I have the experience scrolls to boost him to level 20 and 23 tomes of knowledge plus 40 tomes of mentorship to take him the other 40 levels.
Currently I have 2 Humans, 2 Sylvari, 3 Asura, 1 Charr and 1 Norn so I guess my next character, if a new class was added would be a norn or a Charr.
The best class is the one you like playing.
Luck can be upgraded so consuming a stack of luck is not an issue.
Food is only consumed in large quantities when working on an achievement which is only done once.
That leaves bags. If you open those bags on a regular basis and not wait until you stockpile hundreds of them (as some posting screenies have shown) then any repetitive strain is not that difficult to handle.
The main issue then boils down to not how many bags one has to open but how you manage the opening of all those bags. At 60 and having spent many years as a heavy duty mechanic there are days when my arthritis makes computing difficult but you have to learn how to keep your actions varied enough so as not to introduce a repetitive action. Stockpiling bags and then opening a hundred or so is not going to do anyone any good.
Hide all of Yak’s Bend’s siege engines, steal all their blueprints and they will be at a loss.
No matter how many warnings you put in an E-mail, no matter how many red flags there would still be people caught. Face it, there is just no cure for stupid. I know it is a harsh way to put it but if people fall for things such as “5000 free gems” in-game how many of those people have fallen for “I am a Prince and must smuggle money out of my country. I will split with you….etc.”. Then again it may not be stupidity but greed that ensnares them.
12 degrees? In January? And it is too cold for you? Hell, here I was complaining about shoveling snow yesterday in -20C weather. If anyone wants some snow send a self addressed cooler to my address along with $50.00 for shipping and handling and I will fill the cooler and send it back. I refuse to be responsible for any yellow snow included.
If Lord Faren can run around half naked doing God knows what, why can’t these people?
Lord Faren is a computer construct and has his reasons for running around half naked. If you role play a character in the game running around half naked then the reason should be valid as to why that character is doing such a thing. The character’s life story, background, personality, good and bad quirks all have to validate his actions. If they do not or cannot validate such an action then I maintain that you are not role playing a character but rather giving yourself a venue to display your own life story, background, personality and good and bad quirks. At that point it is no longer role playing is it?
There is one major flaw I am finding with the new dailies and that involves the “events in such and such area”. When those events are in a low level area such as Metrica, Caledon Forest, etc. finding an event becomes problematic with a massive zerg running around trying to accomplish the same thing. Last night in Snowden Drifts, was a prime example. The Champion at the Blasted Haven popped up and I was close enough to get the message however he literally melted before I could get close enough to take a hit on him.
Take the “participate in events in such and such a province” dailies and make them more level oriented so if you are level 80 you would have to go to a level 60-80 map to complete it. Putting 100 level 80’s on a low level map is an exercise in frustration.
I have always been puzzled by some role players and believe me I have done a lot of roleplaying in my lifetime in many, many games. To me the essence of good role play is to leave the person behind the keyboard there and let the character live and breathe on their own. Once you allow the person behind the keyboard the ability to project his or her feelings into the character and thus into the game then it is no longer true role play and where it involves explicit sexuality it ends up being more voyeurism then role play. If you (the person behind the keys) are getting “heated” role playing a character in a computer game then you are not really role playing.
In one game, on a dedicated RP server I had multiple characters, each with his own personality. I was so adept at keeping my characters separate from each other and from myself that I was getting whispers asking why I allowed one of my other characters ( that kitten as he was called) to be in our guild as he was an arrogant, self centered kitten whereas the majority of the rest of our guild were really nice people. The thing is he was meant to be that.
Good screen actors can make you believe that they are the character they are portraying from film to film to film because they let the characters have their own lives and feelings and do not project theirs onto them.

If it drops a chest it will be killed.
If you beat these people every time you met them in combat would your build be considered a cheese build? Is it only a cheese build when you lose the fight? So you lose and it has to be one of those nasty cheese builds because there is no way you should lose is there? I had someone accusing me of running a cheese build in WvW on my mesmer after I killed him for the forth or fifth time. He truly believed I was running a PU mesmer and would not believe me when I told him I had no points at all in Chaos and was running a straight up power/precision build.
Think about this very carefully. ANET would have no need for you to log into a website in order to deliver you a prize. They can just do so in the game.
The sad part is most of the stuff you get out of the Christmas gift boxes
A) cannot be sold to a vendor
B) price is set so low on the TP you can only list them and not sell them outright
C) have to be deleted/destroyed from inventory
if they would at least make it so all the Christmas gift box stuff can be vendor sold, even for 1 copper, it would make me happy.
Wintersday was alright for the first few days now the gifts are just a pain in the backside. The odds of getting one of the recipes, which is about the only things of value from the Wintersday packages are just not worth filling up your inventory over and over again. Many of the items can no longer be sold to the TP as the price is at rock bottom, most cannot be sold to a vendor and end up being destroyed.
I have enough boxes of harvesting tools stored in my vault to last me 10 years. The potions just get in the way (and to use them in the toilet requires a mystic coin only to get another gift and, the insignia can only be learned once. The mini Ho-ho-tron is at least worth selling if you are lucky enough to find more then one but overall I would rather have had less trash even with the rng odds for the good stuff being so low.
Believe it or not after opening close to 2,000 giant gifts I got 2 Ho-ho-trons and 1 of the potion recipes. The rest was all vendor trash.
New race/profession…….I have 9 level 80’s already.
Just can’t think of a reason at all, I play all classes and all races about equally. I have noticed over the years and in many, many games since the internet consisted of dial ports and bbs’s that certain people just cannot play certain races so it is not something new. I have come to the conclusion that those who are more apt to roleplay their characters have an easier time in playing all races and classes. If you let the toon develop his or her own personality versus interjecting yours you will find it easier.
