Had a lot of fun at the duels tonight. Thanks to everyone who came.
:)
Fight club still going on in the south of Anvil Rock Borderlands.
Fight club still going on by windmill on Darkhaven.
Fight Club about to start on the green map by the windmill for those interested.
Duels and stuff around like 6PM Pacific on green map by windmill? Anybody?
Talked to Titan from [PAXA], he said some of them would most likely be there, and I can say the same for [vT]. Some [TFH] will try to make it as well.

We gonna do fight club tomorrow night since the 4th is Thursday?
Would be nice to get a fight where the person isn’t running away.
I feel your pain.
If you’re organizing a fight club tomorrow night, I’ll be there and I’ll tell my small guild about it.
I was looking forward to seeing some of these “in your face roamers” as it’s been decidedly lacking since AR had eBay. I’ll try not to judge too harsh based on today’s encounters. Single person vs. single person, so you run to the cannons and guards? Wut?
Agriope, you missed our gvg the other day! Ask Thorp about it.
Aw man, sad I missed it :[
Yeah, [TFH] kicking kitten GvG — but I believe it was against SBI. I feel like GvGs or duels are the only action we’re really going to get against these servers. I definitely miss fighting Ehmry also, but it’s not like we’ll be seeing them again anytime soon.
Very tired of everyone I see either waypointing from an even or advantageous fight in their favor, or ALT-F4ing once I have started fighting them.
Any fight clubs anytime soon?
I’ve played both for many months and I would recommend Elementalist. You can fill more roles than you can with a Thief. Just play which is more fun for you though.
It’s not hard to burst on an Elementalist either (meaning you have that option as well):

Fun fights against you few guys from [Lost] at the fight club tonight. Too bad more people didn’t show up.
Totally depends on your traits, how many people (if any) you play with, etc.
Typically for solo or duo roaming, D/P is considered better. Anything other than that, it doesn’t really matter. I use D/D all the time, and -/P on swap for solo roaming.
Every skill on D/P is useful, some skills on D/D are situational, or almost never useful.
Good riddance — take WAR with you please, thanks!

ROFL
SO BORING.

Yeah, [WAR] loves PvD. If there’s a player nearby, they aren’t.
Ohai Thorp <3
Just been watching some of your videos, and there’s some kitten good stuff there
<3
does AR have ANY roaming groups at all? All I ever see is just one big mindless sea of red that only knows how to auto attack gates and use rams
You guys are so boring/easy that we’ve mostly been doing other things. I know that a lot of Anvil Rock misses Ehmry Bay. I’ve been 2v8ing your roaming groups with my guild mate, Agriope, something that wouldn’t be possible against the majority of roaming groups of other servers we’ve played against.
Last thing i’d wanna see outside a heavy zerg is <a red name plate – rank> [vT]. not too many small groups have that kind of coordination.

When you’re getting low, hide behind a corner near the fan or battery areas.
Speaking from a WvW standpoint, D/P having much more utility than D/D, I can still see why people (including myself) prefer dagger offhand. The setup is faster to burst with D/D, and for some people the risk of missing a Cloak and Dagger is worth that small amount of time. With all of the NPCs in WvW, it’s even easier to use. That’s really the only clear reason (besides fun) I can think of why so many still choose X/D, other than being stubborn.

1. Cool
2. Fast-paced
3. High burst
4. Insane active survivability and mobility
5. Unforgiving mechanics
5. Can efficiently run solo if I want
6. Most other classes not interesting/huge flaws
7. Makes people mad
Is that any better?
Also, I have no idea what my secondary setup should be instead of the SB?
Thanks!
Cool, that’s much more detailed. First thing I noticed was that your effective power was rather low for a Thief. I’d suggest something other than Divinity Runes, but those are still pretty solid. Because you can permanently stack stealth with that build, Scholar isn’t a bad choice since it won’t be too difficult to regenerate health back up to above 90%, not to mention a blind field, shot, and teleport with blind. The next highest DPS set would be 5 Scholar + 1 Ruby Orb. 6/6 Ruby Orbs come next and are not a bad choice at all.
It’s also decent to use a precision rune set such as Eagle (or 5 Ranger + something else) , Lyssa, Thief, or others if you’d rather have more consistent critical hits.
You really ought to change that food too. Other than that, and possibly using different runes, for the secondary weapon set, I’d try sword/dagger because it also has some utility. Short bow isn’t bad at all, it’s just that you’ll probably never use it in a tough fight against anyone who isn’t completely terrible.

Firstly I would recommend you create/tweak your build with this website: http://gw2buildcraft.com/
It has everything that you can use in WvW, and shows your damage reduction percentage, effective power, health, etc.
Seeing as you’re D/P and want to roam, I’d suggest a typical 0/20/30/20/0 build. I, III, or VI in Critical Strikes; IV, V, XI in Shadow Arts; VI, XI in Acrobatics. Also you may want to consider a different offhand weapon rather than short bow if you’re solo roaming.
Had fun dueling [GF] tonight — learned some stuff from you guys.
Fun duels with you few GH and Rekz players left at the windmill.
Good times last night with Kardiamond and the [vT] guys.
Highlights would definitely be when I was with Kardiamond and slider pulling BP guys by umber and durios when a BP guy adds us and tells us to leave us alone so they can take durios. Obviously we said no way, so they took the whole zerg to chase the three of us to Ogrewatch. That and the fight in BP BL at vale with [vT]. Good ten minutes Ebay kept coming at us. Many bags and badges last night.
Yeah it was weird, and unexpected.
A zerg of BP asking a group of 3 to leave them alone so they could siege a tower. Just after they retreated from trying to double team AR with Ebay all night.
Yes sure.
Sadly their zerging to ogre didn’t turn well for them.
Shout out to [COW], our fight were never even, but you were skilled players! Tho I shouldn’t say that anymore, any mesmer seems to be good player.
vT usually roam too late for me, once I will try to come with you guys, looks fun!
Cool, just send one of us a whisper.
I rarely post in these threads because anything positive is drowned out by e-flexing, e-tears, and trash talk, but I digress. There were some very enjoyable fights won and lost this weekend, particularly yesterday in BP borderlands during the afternoon and in AR borderlands in the evening (eastern time for reference).
Shout out to [TDME], I know you guys have quite a lot of underlevels, but you guys don’t run from a fight, so good luck in gearing and leveling and building a solid team. One thing though… Beware of Safe Fall traits
Also to [vT], very tough group and I was hoping we could catch you with more even odds, unfortunately it didn’t happen. The fighting outside of “briar” earlier in the night where you had a few others not in [vT] (sorry didn’t catch the guild names) was a very interesting tactic that was very effective, so thank you for the thought provoking encounter.
Shout out to BP in general for really upping your large force tactics in the last few weeks! If you ever get to the point where you can use those tactics in conjunction with your smaller tactical strike forces you will really be a tough fight.
The other guild that plays with us sometimes is called [NERF] if that’s who you meant.
Because load screens to original locations were intended, right?
The skill had been that way for too long, about time it was fixed. Going so far that I would get load screens to return to my original location was clearly broken and cheesy. It would have been cool if it were intended, but from what I remember the tooltip had/has a range indicated.
Good fights tonight at the fight club in EB BL – specifically to you vT guys.
-Menorah
Also we need to set up an actual GvG between you BP guys and GH. I wasn’t there for it, but I heard that our impromptu group didn’t fare too well. We’ll give you guys a bigger challenge next time
Missed it.
They said it was fun though.
[GF] and [GH] have been fun to fight — everyone else is boring for different reasons.
I would be quite interested as well what people use to level
I just started my thief as well
Sword/pistol with short bow. The pistol 5 skill will mitigate a lot of damage, and you’ll be able to hit multiple targets with the sword main hand. Stack power as high as you can go. Use Minor/Major Bloodlust Sigils, and power runes (1 Hoelbrak, 1 Balthazaar, etc.) for another 10 power in each armor piece.
If you don’t like sword/pistol for leveling, just use whatever weapon combination you want to be comfortable with when you’re leveled up for practice.
(edited by Thorp.7982)
From what I’ve gathered/read, and sometimes experienced, for runes:
6/6 Scholar – highest damage above 90% HP
5 Scholar + 1 Ruby – Highest damage under 90%
6/6 Ruby Orbs – Next highest damage
6/6 Thief – Similar damage to Rubies when hitting from behind and higher precision
6/6 Eagle – Slightly lower damage than Rubies, very high precision
6/6 Beryl Orbs – Good alternative for Hidden Killer builds
6/6 Divinity – Slightly higher survivability than Beryl Orbs
Interesting choices:
6/6 Melandru – -25% condition/stun duration and high toughness
6/6 Lyssa – Boons when using Elite and high precision
6/6 Hoelbrak – -20% condition duration, high power and uses for might
Oh, I totally forgot…
Shout out to vT and some other randoms that caught our 5 man golem rush at bay last night. We almost made it… It was really exhausting permastealthing those golems across the map.
I didn’t understand the random tapping of everything before that. Anyway, you’re a good Mesmer assuming you’re the one with the legendary staff.
Obviously Charr have an advantage because they’re intimidating to players, making them choke up on their keyboard.
:p
I’ve been using Corrupted Shards for many months now and I’m looking forward to the Super skins. Hopefully they’re not keys or something found in the Super Adventure Box as skins.
In my opinion, condition damage for an Elementalist is better suited for supporting your regular damage rather than something to be focused on. It’s true that a lot of people use negative condition duration food or carry at least one condition removal, but I believe the role of an Elementalist (specifically a dagger/dagger Elementalist) is to pressure opponents, and extra condition damage is nice for that.
Depending on your traits (because it’s a cantrip), Lightning Flash may also give special benefits such as might, regeneration, vigor, etc. As others have stated, it’s a low cooldown stun-breaker that also gives distance.
From a WvW perspective, play a Thief if you like to solo roam or play in small groups. Otherwise there isn’t much reason to be one compared to other classes. They’re fun though, and if that’s enough reason for you to play one, go for it.
You use a sword and a dagger.
The reason your damage is so low is because P/D is for condition damage. If you want to do high damage, stack power until the gear has power/precision, then finally at 60+, power/precision/critical damage. Personally I love and play S/D with a short bow. If you want easy leveling, use S/P for the blind field on the pistol offhand and just cleave everything down without taking damage from melee targets.

The pen is mightier than the sword and actions speak louder than words.
Yes. I’ve seen the same thing before on other classes as well (Necromancer and an Elementalist).
Had some really fun fights with those Baltimore dudes.
I’d suggest Thief because the play style is quite different at least in my experience but you’re still very useful. I have to respec sometimes for dungeons on my Thief, and I’m plenty useful in WvW. I’ve played one for most of my time, but after playing an Elementalist in the right way, I can’t go back to any other classes. Stick with your Elementalist in my opinion, you can literally do anything haha.

I love playing my thief but I will just say that warriors have such a nice feeling of “flow” between their weapon sets and utilities. Everything just seems to work so nicely together for them, unlike the thief where your main weapon set and your secondary set have little to no synergy. Then again, warriors have such a huge selection of weapons to use while thieves are on the other end of the spectrum.
I have noticed a lot of good necromancer players all of a sudden — they’re learning how to counter thieves and are very successful at it with this particular class. Every class can do well against thieves besides probably the ranger, but I have seen a few that knew what they were doing and it’s nice to see them sticking with their class and not hopping onto the next bandwagon.
I wish the rendering issues were addressed ASAP.
Human male. Wishing I made a human-looking norn. I can also see using a charr.
