40 percent map completion
haven’t finished my story quests in orr
Not rocking full exotics
only 1 crafting profession is capped
/age
185 hours and 22 minutes over the course of 22 days.
Don’t think it’s that much compared to alot of people. I still have alot of things to do.
Shrapnel mine
+
Booby Trap
+ Blunderbuss
= Bleed cap in only a few seconds to anyone who dares hit you with melee
It is a valid argument. If I wanted to give you gold, i would, cause it’s unlimited and I could just get it back
Or I could just buy gold, y’know?
and yeah, it’s not like I can’t just get more. It is an unlimited supply amiright? What I choose to do with it isn’t really wasted when there isn’t much to do with it, It’s hard to get, and supply is low.
So deal with it.
30 sp isn’t nothing. Especially with Eldritch scrolls costing 50 (if you want to make exotic stuff) and Blood stone shards costing 200.
Only 1 racial elite and 1 profession elite cost 30 SP. the rest cost 10. If you’re having problems getting that too bad.
I have every Skill available, both racial and elite with 7 SP left over and I’m not even halfway completed with full map completion and I’m not even halfway through Skill challenges.
Guess I’m well off
(edited by Tigger.8035)
yeah my thief is running the Norn racial elite Snow leopard gimmick. It’s meant to abuse stealth and crit
the content we have isn’t the end of the game. Updates Updates Updates.
you’re crying about a game that’s still new… are you guys really adults?
do they not work?
Starting in the engineer forums I made a thread about this
I don’t think many people have even payed attention to the combo aspect of the game, Or even considered building for it when partying with other players
A Field is an area generated by an AoE skill where combo’s are produced when Finishers are used on top of them.
These combinations create a… combo, and different comboes do differen’t things.
So the point of this thread is for people to discuss:
More so builds, and what combo’s exist in their builds.
For me….
my build consists of:
Rifle
Bomb Kit, Grenades, Elixir U, and Supply crate.
Combos available to me include
Fields:
Fire Field From bomb kit
Poison Field Finisher from Grenade Kit
Smoke Field Smoke Bomb
Finishers
Blast:
Big Ol’ Bomb
Supply Crate
Leap:
Jump Shot
Projectile:
Hip Shot
Whirl

In similar format I’ll be doing the same thing for thieves.
My build consists of
Sword + Pistol and Dual Pistols
Fields available to me include
Ethereal (throw junk from stolen skills)
Poison (Exploding venom sack from stolen skills)
Finishers for me Include
Projectile: Unload, Vital Shot, Head shot, Body Shot
Stolen: Insert Throw item
Whirl: Whirling Axe Stolen
Fat
whereas fat cats in RL aren’t something I’d buy for a child :<

17 minute on average CoF Magg runs.
Good farm, 1 gold a little over half an hour.
I have no complaints
You can waste an unlimited supply of something? News to me.
11k damage from killing blow on rifle
Tried out today and felt fairly disappointed. Given what other classes get for 30 skill points I see this as a bad investment.
I know it provides some benefits, but the current state simpyl doesn’t justify both the 30 SP costs and elite skill slot ocupancy. For free this skill would be great, for the price it just doesn’t pay of.
you say this like theirs an SP cap
Here’s ONE plan
http://www.gamefaqs.com/boards/938738-/63733779
find the weapon you main.
Pick the two crafts required to make the stuff for it
They’re tradeable as well.
(Unless anet decided to change that recently)
Yeah that’s true but the locations for the karma vendors for items in bulk still hold true.
I maxed cooking after they removed items from the shop and… in all honesty the stuff that you really need during key points of the profession are sold at Karma vendors.
Tho for tailoring…. Why is it that starting out the profession is so much more expensive than completing it
I kinda hate myself for NPCing everything at a low level. Now I have all this high rating ingredients sitting in my collectables (because I wised up and started using salvage kits) just WAITING to be used and Im trapped at 160 rating until I muster up the stamina to farm some dungeons for gold….
My main is bordering the slim and I made another bigger and it’s more adorable :<
Could use the elixir gun.
weapon kits are still kits if they benefit from kit passives
@Tigger
What led you to think I wasn’t?
And even if I was a level 1, and you were level 80, with full exotic and legendary weapons, it would never make your assertion that the advantage of the range of grenades is negligible or non existent.
It is negligible in this argument until you’re unkillable in dungeons.
You keep spouting out nonsense that just because something is in melee range it isn’t good and gets you killed. Even if that same thing has the utility to manage, and has done just that for the person who plays it.
Your precise argument doesn’t have a point
If it was impossible to die with 1500 range no one would ever think about running melee at all

Kit refinement
swapping to grenade kit
You have to be in melee range because the grenades fire out of the back back
and lol at you still having the misconception that just because you’re range you don’t get hit.
Have you even played in a dungeon? Like seriously you’re talking much bull right now.
this argument isn’t going anywhere because I’m speaking from personal experience since I use all 3 kits.
You’re just doing that typical theorycrafting nonsense that’s all in your head. Melee enemies will run you down, and you can’t always kite them, or a big mob, and there are ranged enemies in dungeons.
K thx.
My main build involves the bomb kit, grenade kit, elixir H and elixir R.
Honestly, you do have to run into melee range for grenade barrage from kit refinement, but that has a very long ICD, and you have no idea when it comes back, so in most cases, unless you are stupidly staying in melee range for your grenades JUST IN CASE it happens, then it gets wasted.
And of course there are melee enemies that can get to you, but kiting is very easy. With the rifle you can swap easily to net shot, with offhand pistol, glue shot, with your allies and coordination, you can kite very easily too. And chill grenade helps kite very well.
And ranged enemies… well yeah, there are. But a ranged character vs a ranged enemy faces the same opposition a melee character faces from an enemy ranged character.
But the great thing is, a ranged character does not face the same challenges of a melee character against an enemy melee character.
If you think you are equally viable walking up to any enemy in melee with a bomb kit, as you are with hitting them from range with a grenade kit, then I’m afraid it is you who is stuck in theorycraft lala-land.
hah I’m sure.
Theorycrafting and actually playing the game are two different things.
Get to level 80. Farm dungeons, and then come back to me k thx
Snow leopard
Hidden killer trait
Blinding Powder
Hide in Shadows
Prowl
I’m big and I maul you in stealth. WHO MAD.
heart seeker spam? Bro I’m stabbing you from your aorta to your kidney. K?
the tool belt skill gives something no one profession has.
Variety with racial skills
and I agree. Buff the tool belt skills of turrets
Flamethrowers flame wave, tool belt kits needle field, and the healing field of elixir gun all have moderate cool downs before it works again :/
You have to invest 30 points to “out damage” (barely might I add) Bomb kit when I only have to throw 10 points in one and can throw points in other traits for other abilities to “outdamage” you completely.
STOP THE PRESSES
also are you sure about longer burns =/= more damage?
4.1 * Level + 0.25 * Condition Damage per second
explain this equation to me , I didn’t make it, but clarify it
Umm, why is that equation even relevant? At least explain why…
That equation shows you how condition damage is calculated, if burn did 1 damage per 1 second of burn, then adding more time simply means you do 2 seconds instead of 1. It doesn’t mean that 1 second= 2 damage. Plus, its a 20% increase, now, the trait on crits is a 2s, 2s+20%= 2.4s, with fire bomb, it goes from 6s, to 7.2s
Now, is it exactly worth a major trait to got from 6s, to 7.2s? I really doubt it is. And of course, you have to take into account how often bombs tick, it may well make it increase the time it burns by 1.2s, but I’m not sure if that equates to a full tick.
And the bomb kit is, remember, melee range. What happens at melee range? You die, so the grenade kit, even if it does less damage than bombs, still has the advantage of range. Doing a bit more damage with pure bombs, than pure grenades is no good if you are dead due to being hacked to death.
And honestly, your 5% damage when immobilized trait is just misguided. You have a 1s immobilize on a 25s/20s cooldown. That uptime is appalling and its such a short window, that it might as well not exist.
the melee range misconception is so stupid. Get to end game and play it yourself.
Learn to evade, and move, that’s all you need to know to get past most gimmicks
If people actually died all day in melee range, No one would play a certain few professions and the Greatsword wouldn’t be the most popular weapon in the game
No one is telling you to sit in a mob for an hour. You go in, Apply your confusion and Blind, and other status effects and if you have kit refinement (which pretty much gives you a second grenade barrage by switching to grenade kit) You need to be in melee range for your grenades to hit anyway.
The range needs to be upped a bit. In WvWvW I can place the mortar on the walls and I wont be able to anyone due to the range. The only people I can hit are those that are up close to a dooror wall.
The other issue with the mortar is that I can place it down and have a team mate start using before me. I am then unable to use it for the duration. Cant it be like normal siege weapons where the person who bought the weapon has priority over the usage.
when elite supplies gets fixed you’ll have your wish
What else do you think I’m talking about.
the 1 skill breaks the 1k Mark tho
So where does 6k come from?
And remember the horrid fire rate, dead zone and slow flying speed… that 1k is terrible considering all the other factors.
Mortar 5 skill….
What else do you think I’m talking about.

Tools tree trait “kit refinement” makes med kit do a powerful explosion
It’s spammable and benefits from the explosion traits
since when is 6k Damage in dungeons weak…..
I don’t think it outdamage grenade kit, well, with grenadier it certainly doesn’t. And its melee range.
Sitting duck and napalm specialist
It out damages grenade kit and is the only kit with both a confusion and blind. The aoe is decent range, and combine it with minefield and the damage output is around 3k on Dungeon mobs, not counting the damage done while they kill themselves from the confusion.
Dunno what you guys are smoking. None of bomb kits skills are ground target, they’re cast and go unlike grenade kit. And it’s really not hard to run in melee range and face tank a mob through both confusion and blind, as long as you don’t stay in there for more than 4 seconds
Should probably stop lying and playing theorywars .
its not necessary to run a build with racial tool belt skills at all, It’s just different and adds more variety to the class
I meant pistol.kitten wasn’t thinking straight
One of the differences is we get access to reliable amounts of daze, burning and poison. Warrior doesn’t really get it easily, so most of their condition damage will naturally come from bleeds.
Ultimately, Apples and Spaceships.
Daze?
Uh, IIRC the only daze we have is the Shield Throw. and thats on a rather high cooldown.
And the burning + poison Dual Pistol engineers get is pretty iffy considering the Burning + Darts is not at max effectiveness (Not entirely true for darts) unless you are in melee range or close to it.
You literally need to sacrifice range for damage on two of your abilities with ranged weapons on a ranged build.
I can really think of no other class that actually needs to do that. And quite frankly i find it a tad ridiculous.
doesn’t rifle 4 have a daze?
Charr engineer is good for abusing pistols for AoE with Hidden pistol’s tool belt skill and poison dart volley
Asura engineer can abuse confusion with bomb kit
And trust me when I say this, Bomb kits confusion outdamages my grenades, Now add that with technobabbles confusion.
Sylvari have immobilizes to bring to the table and theirs a trait to get extra damage off that
The other races? It’s up to you really
So what is a class that’s powerful?
I came to engineer because Guardian was a tank class (hold points, too defensive oriented, good support and control, but poor damage), and now I’m finding out engineer is another tanky class. Wasted my time leveling a class-type I was trying to avoid at all costs.
I play mostly PvE, could you suggest a powerful class there?
I love Mesmer in PvP but I don’t want to deal with clones and random effects in PvE.
What’s the most damage oriented, and least buggy, class for PvE?Or tips to make engineer more powerful when solo in PvE (Lv 65+ areas).
I’ve tweaked so much with my skills, my traits, … everything… but it’s still very difficult. No problem staying alive, but a problem killing stuff.Guess I could use grenades/grenadier but they’re so loud and flashy they make me tired after playing 5 minutes.
Make a race oriented build
I’ve even seen an Elixir engineer do fairly well with Elixir H. I haven’t tried it myself, but I doubt its completely useless.
Elixer H is only good if you are running 409, but when you run it, its great. If you arnt running 409, take medkit or heal turret based on your build.
Forgive my ignorance, but what is 409 ?
Cleansing formula 409 is a trait that gives elixirs the ability to remove conditions upon consumption
flamethrower is the only thing that gets its full range through the gate.
You can hit pretty much anything within range of your flamethrower through the gate. Even air blast them off the gate
Play a Charr engineer
get the trait that inflicts bleed and gives you piercing bullets
stack crit and use hidden pistols tool belt skill and shrapnel mine
Spam Poison dart and Hidden pistols tool belt skill and throw shrapnel mine
Massive AoE bleed
have you tried saving the butler in CM?
The game had no ending… just sayin…
There was no walking away in a group with the main character NPC’s as a narrator gives a speech and the credits begin rolling
For all you know, Zhaitan isn’t even dead, and we might just get to fight the other elder dragons with Jormag’s claw being an event at frostgorge sound
http://gaiscioch.com/tavern/guildwars_guides/post_38103.html
a list of locations for all cooking ingredients
Bomb kit has a smoke screen and a confusion.
Tell me how I face tank mobs harder than guardians
I changed from a support spec to an offensive spec cause I wanted dungeons to go by quicker
I run Triple kit
Med, Grenade, and Bomb with elixir U
My hands may hurt but I crap on everything without even having exotics.
(edited by Tigger.8035)
Do keep in mind RACE as a factor when you make an engineer
race adds alot of variety to the profession with their profession mechanic. You can turn any racial heal and utility skill into a second set of skills.
Elixir U doesn’t stop Elixir infused bombs from healing you btw. Dunno if that’s intended or a bug
3!
Med, Grenade and Bomb.
Permanent swiftness boost in pve
Elixir-Infused Bombs are the point.
Still not as fun as grenades though.
I wish I could have Elixir-Infused Grenades :P
that would be game breaking. No lie
Anet Pls
