Sigil of battle should work without issue whether or not it is in your offhand or main hand. That being said, I have heard of issues where the player has two weapon-change proccing sigils and only one sigil procs every weapon change. Also, having two of the same weapon-change proc sigils doesn’t really work, it only accounts for one.

You can modify numerous things to your preference:
- Change the heal
- Change Armor of Earth to Cleansing Fire
- Change the elite (not recommended)
- Remove 10 points from water or arcana and put into earth to get Earth’s Embrace or Elemental Shielding (not really worth it IMO)
- Change Cantrip Mastery to Cleansing Wave
- Change Renewing Stamina to Final Shielding
For gear, you want to have good toughness and vitality. Aside from that, it’s your preference. I personally run cleric armor w/ PTV everything else. (I’m still working towards getting all the PTV though.) You want one dagger to have superior sigil of battle. (If you don’t have the gold for it, major sigil of battle is decent and a lot cheaper.)
Your rotation is as follows:
Fire #3 -> [Optional] Fire #2 -> Fire #5 -> Fire #4 -> [Optional] Earth #3 -> Earth #4 -> Earth #5 -> [Optional; Good idea, though] Air #3
You shouldn’t need to worry about using your full rotation against small amounts of normal mobs, but large groups of mobs or very strong mobs, i.e. bosses, you’ll want to use it.

I was only recently recruited to TAG, so I only knew Disruptive for a month or two. He really was an awesome guy. I was devastated to hear this news. He was a very nice, helpful and genuine human being. He will be very missed by many.
If new expansion hits in 2-3 months… then there is no point in me working towards making a legendary.
New expansion = new legendaries, new and fresh is always cooler, people want what most people dont have, they want to stand out.
So basically for 99% of players we might as well give up on our legendaries until the next expansion.
Not necessarily. There are numerous ways to deal with legendaries come a level cap increase, and adding new legendaries is just one of them. I imagine that they aren’t even sure how they plan to deal with that as of yet, as the expansion is so far away.
@OP Aside from the X amount of cues that they want the expansion timeline to be much longer than GW1 was, there would not be an expansion right after a couple major monthly patches that were described numerous times by developers as equivalent to an expansion pack.
How does fast ground targeting work with lightning flash? Wouldn’t it just port you where you already are? I assume by “fast ground targeting” you mean the option that drops the ground target spells at your feet?
Ground targeting is an option that makes certain AoE abilities drop on the ground on the first click of your mouse rather than showing a green circle where they will appear and thus requiring you to click twice.
Every single elementalist in WvW should have a focus. I thought that was common knowledge. Mainly for the #4 air ability used to protect your siege.
While reflecting projectiles is all fine and dandy, because you’re doing it for a very short period of time and because player damage, including projectiles, don’t hurt the gate/walls much at all, it’s only use is attempting to kill enemies that are stupid enough to spam ranged attacks on the gate.
The problem here is that if you’re resorting to this, your numbers are more than likely small enough that even if, by some miracle, someone does get downed, they’ll get rez’d real quickly. Thus you’re little more than a minor nuisance when you do this.
It’s possible to get in the lighthouse. You just have to jump on some of the rubble behind it. http://i.imgur.com/KeitZ.jpg
If you’re interested in high-mobility, elementalist does very well at that. Elementalist, especially D/D elementalists, are second only to thieves when it comes to mobility.
ride the lightning is more likely to save you from a zerg than any focus skill
Quoted for truth.
As somebody who wants to love focus and has used both D/D and D/F quite a lot, I third this fact.
Speaking of focus, I came across the most interesting D/F ele I’ve ever seen in WvW recently. He was a burst D/F ele, and did it quite well. I don’t know much about his build other than that he was an auromancer; almost always had fire aura up. He would come in and kill someone squishy in 1-2 seconds or get someone not so squishy down to 10-20% HP.
He would run away after that, and when he didn’t, his DPS was somewhat bleh-ish. Focus’ defensive abilities allowed him to mingle with a small crowd of enemies for a little while after he did his initial burst. Nonetheless, I think he’d find it hard pressed to play a style other than gimping a solo or small group of enemies with his build. It was quite neat to see the build though; quite creative.

I got my reward in the mail – thanks so much! But the back piece was level 10 and I opened it on my level 80. Is there one that’s higher level that I was supposed to get, or that other people got?
I went to LA and Tixx said he had a gift for me. I asked for it and got the achievement for getting it, but I did not get anything at all. There is absolutely nothing new in my inventory.
Edit: Just went to heart of the mists and Tixx said if I wanted one. I did and I got absolutely no items for a second time. What is going on?

Remember that the quality of a mob’s drops will increase based on how long the mob has lived for.
Most mobs die within a few hours.
If a mob manages to hang around a full day or two, there’s a good possibility it will drop something awesome.
I know that the EXP you get increases, but I’ve never heard the drop rate does. Source?
They send them out to a randomly selected group [in the 4 digits] of people that are on their mailing list [I think it’s an opt-in-by-default list] every year, from what I’ve heard. Pretty awesome.
And here I thought staff was for support…
Sounds like this thread is the equivalent of hey I want to play gs war and be a bunker.
Your staff build has a role, and playing the build out of context will make it seem weak of course.
Much of the elementalist weapons are able to be used in a wide array of build types. This is different from many other professions where the weapon often defines their build type.
I came up with this D/F build a couple days ago: http://tinyurl.com/btpu55q (Or copy paste: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-k3c;0J0B2-U035-N-Z0;9;599JT;10;02;024-45ASJ;1o0-nBnBnB2D6NZ)
I tested it a bit and it had some nice burst and good survivability, but the burst was not hard to screw up and, if you did screw up, your DPS tanked fast. It revolves around might stacking while simultaneously disabling your enemy. If done perfectly, you can get off a lot of damage while taking very minimal damage in a 1v1 scenario.
The fact of the matter is D/D has more mobility, more AoE, and more damage. I like D/F but it just can not rationally beat D/D. I hope they address the focus in next month’s update. I really want to play it, but the weapon, especially in fire attunement, needs to be rebalanced.
Not moving doesn’t fix it. It happens a lot more often when the vertical elevation is different (even slightly) than you and your enemy, or when your enemy is huge, or when your enemy is a stationary object(one of those things that can’t get conditions on them).
I constantly find myself missing on stationary objects… I have to position myself just right to not miss.
It has not always worked like that. Swapping from staff to D/D would replace mainhand with dagger 1, and then dagger 1 with dagger 2. I’ve never had dagger go straight to an empty offhand.
I’ve never dragged and dropped or right clicked my daggers to equip them, I always double click them. I have never had any issue with a 1H weapon replacing another 1H weapon in your main hand. Played since BWE1.
Whether or not you get a loot bag rides on how much damage you do to the mob. When in a party, it rides on how much damage the entire party does to the mob. I don’t think that the percentage of damage goes up much, if at all, when in a party. Thus when you are in a zerg, you want to be in a party to up the chances you all deal sufficient damage to mobs and get the loot.
A few major things I’ve noticed:
- The commander himself should get nerfed a bit, at least in regards to damage dealt.
- The event shouldn’t start for at least 30-60 minutes after they lost their last tower, i.e. filled the criteria to start a breakout event.
- The event shouldn’t restart for at least 30-60 minutes after it is defeated by the enemy borderlands.
The rate for sweaters appears to be pretty high. 12 giant gifts = 7 sweaters, 3 hats, 2 socks.
This is still a bug as of the latest patch.
I noticed some platforms look more like broken snowflakes while others look more like solid snowflakes. I didn’t test it, but I imagine the broken ones have a timer until they vanish and the solid ones don’t. That being said, after 5-6 attempts or so, I finished the jumping puzzle. A lot of fun! The environment and entire puzzle were all really pretty and set up nicely. IMO it could have been a tad harder, but at the same time, I think the difficulty level is quite suitable for most people.
Yup, melting is annoying because I have to can’t wait behind a couple seconds so I can jump by myself rather than clobbered on top of half a dozen other people. The delay time between doing the jumping puzzle is a bit frustrating as well. I can only assume it’ll be more and more tedious the more times someone fails.
Its not entirely colour coded.
I’m not colour blind but I go by the numbers rather than colours.
I still have to know which number, i.e. which color, to tap. If I don’t know the exact color color of what I have to attack, how do numbered keybindings help me?

I enjoy music and what-not, and I was hoping to enjoy this event. But my heart sank into my stomach when I noticed the notes were differentiated only by 8 different colors. I’m color blind and I feel really disrespected and left out by this event that I can not participate in without losing very quickly. The complete disregard for color blind people is almost mind blowing.
This event could have been designed in oh so many ways, but it had to be color coded with numerous colors that, from my perspective, look very similar to each other. I can only assume that none of the designers have ever interacted with a color blind person before. I am quite distraught over this.
On a more positive note, the rest of the Wintersday content and the patch as an entirety seem pretty awesome, and I am looking forward to participating in everything else. I can’t wait until the event starts tomorrow. I apologize if I come off as hostile in this post, that’s not my intention. I just hope that the designers are more considerate to a very common disease wherein many problems can be avoided simply by not using colors that are remotely similar, or by using some other method other than color coding.
Thank you for your time, and I hope this gets in front of the right person. Happy holidays everyone.

Bit is so much fun to watch! He’s a great ele, a good guy, and really interacts with his viewers. Very entertaining, to the point where I often find myself watching his stream for a few hours rather than actually playing GW2. He even does occasional gold giveaways, hehe. (Plus his roommate sucks at LoL and it’s funny hearing him spew wrong information and QQ a lot.)
That’s a glorious bug. (Insert pun here.)
ANet’s very reluctant to release even vague ETA’s for minor changes. I don’t think you’ll get a straight answer, if any at all, from ANet.

Number 4 and 5 appear to be fixed – this is excellent! I think the missing route bug for #3 was fixed, though, as far as I’m aware, there has still been no improvement to further clarify that a thread is locked. #1 and #2 are still in the system.
Psychology > Inflation > Numbers.
Cause Churning earth is already very powerful and using it with LF makes it almost impossible to dodge.
Unless you actually dodge it rather than try to run away from it.
Lightning Flash is A.O.K. in my opinion… except it shouldn’t go on full CD if it doesn’t teleport us anywhere. Ideally it would turn red if we can’t get to that location, but I’d settle with it going on a few second CD (akin to when you get interrupted while using a casted ability before it goes off) if you didn’t move.
I used D/F for a while. It was quite a bit of fun. While the build was initially for sPvP, it worked well for PvE (though, due to lack of AoE, not so much for dungeons). I stopped using it because I was getting bored from the lack of challenge, as it was oh so difficult for me to die. I still like focus, and am hoping this upcoming patch buffs it up, but, outside of some specific scenarios, D/F is often blatantly more gimp than D/D, which is unfortunate.
The Trading Post was implemented primarily to offer an efficient, broad, and safe means of trading. One of the primary benefits of using the provided system is the protection of players from scams, cheats, and abuse.
Players may elect to use other means to trade, but doing so is risky, and we are not able to offer to resolve disagreements related to private arrangements.
Since I know player to player trading is excluded for some reason that has not ever been told to us, I’ll resist from asking questions about it.
That being said, what’s the point of reporting for scamming, then?
I do feel like the load times have gotten a bit longer since release. It’s also really annoying that the loading screens load slower or sometimes don’t finish loading if you are alt tabbed out of the game. I wish this wasn’t the case. I’d rather be browsing the GW2 forums during the load time, but I often have to stay on the load screen or else it never finishes.
Wait, so this isn’t a bug?! It’s exploit prevention? Seriously? That’s disappointing. Anyways, it’s really easy to do just by spending an hour or so in Orr, following the zerg doing DEs. This achievement should be renamed to “Map Survivor”, or at least be noted that you have to stay on the same map.
I had tons of friends complaining about this when it was part of the monthly achievement. Everyone thought it was a bug, which was a logical conclusion to make IMO. The fact that it’s not… honestly, I think the achievement should be removed. If that much exploit protection needs to be put in place for a single achievement… it’s really disappointing.

“There’s only 5 or 10 people tops, we can take them.” <— Culling in WvW much?
“What red circles?” <— Being color blind sucks.
(edited by TimeBomb.3427)
So you’re asking for a new chat channel that you and all your friends can talk? Wouldn’t that get very messy very easily?
Example:
I have 5 friends.
Friend 1 knows Friend 2.
Friend 2 knows Friend 1 and 3.
Friend 3 knows Friend 2 and 4.
Friend 4 knows Friend 3.
Friend 5 doesn’t know any of my friends.
I send a message in the friends channel, and thus to all 5 of my friends. I get responses back from all of them, and start talking to all of them as a group, but Friend 5 sees me having a conversation with seemingly nobody. Friend 4 gets confused because he doesn’t see Friend 1 or 2 or 5’s messages. And so on and so forth.
Question:
If someone’s account gets compromised on January 10th and the latest restore point is January 5th, but they legitimately purchased gems, i.e. sent money to ArenaNet, on January 8th, then will those gems be restored, or at least the money spent on those gems be refunded?
No. I don’t see how this is very highly requested. It’s been mentioned before, sure, but I’m going to go with one of my favorite reasons not to do this:
It drastically lowers the amount of replayability and even moreso, it completely breaks lore and any sort of immersion/roleplaying. There are surely more reasons on top of that. I definitely don’t support this.
tl;dr immersion issues, gameplay mechanic issues, technical issues.
Their customer support team, or what some may call “game masters”, seems to have a lack of tools. I’m sure they have people that are working on creating more, but for now customer support can’t even do something as seemingly simple as mailing us lost items.
I often see complaints about customer support that are linked to customer support saying “they can’t refund X item”. This statement it is ambiguous though (is that their rule or is it due to a technical restraint?), and from what I’ve read, it is indeed due to a technical restraint.
I would not be surprised if, due to so many other engineering priorities, customer support and perhaps even ingame developer tools were put on the back burner.
So last month, the big patch occurred a day before the event started. I’m wondering if we can expect the same scheduling this month, or if the patch will be launched on Friday, the same day as the event. Thanks!
I got a launcher update but no game update. Maybe it has something to do with the billing maintenance?
It’s aggro leashing, and it’s not an uncommon mechanic.
I do wish that the mob warned it was nearing the end of it’s leash several meters before it reached that point, though. It’d also be nice if the mob waited for 5-10 seconds once it reached the end of it’s rope before starting to regen its HP and going back to its original spawn point.
The aggro leash also activates if the mob has no pathing to get to your position. This can be quite annoying, and is often due to minor terrain bugs.

supposedly they’re full not because of the amount of people currently online, but the amount of accounts tied to the server.
Yes, and WoW’s 10 million customers are including trial and “free” accounts, as well as those that are past canceled and expired. Well, that one actually might be true…
But, no, the servers aren’t based on “accounts tied to them”, they are actually players playing the game at that time, of which there are a lot of them.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Server-Populations/first#post703192
Last post is by a dev. The statement seems a little vague, and I don’t believe it’s necessarily true, but server status might not be entirely based on users actively online.
I’d just like to point out that community coordinators are not developers, they are pretty much just forum moderators (as far as we’re aware). I’m not sure if they’re involved in other parts of customer service as well, though. Still, not developers.
And Eva or another CC posted another message that was much less vague and stated it was only online members. I’m sure it’s been covered in the past by actual developers as well.
As others have said, report them for derogatory remarks, racist remarks, harassment, etc. Even in guild chat, they are subject to the rules just as they would be if they said it in map chat. They just have to be reported. After that, leave the guild and ignore them.
Prepurchasers got that stat ring… though that’s a lot less permanent and lasting than any sort of wardrobe item.
It’s a limited time promo only for people who buy the game during the promo.
It’s already been stated by staff that a server’s population is in relation to online population, not accounts on the server.
