I’d also like HTTP access, primarily so we can effectively load the API through the user’s client via JS.
It’d be wonderful if something like this worked with your API (without needing the requester to have an SSL certificate):

What is the reason behind needing a public API to be secured via SSL?

yes infact i was thinking at pve . @TimeBomb why do u think D/F is not viable as D/D ? I have always used DD but see that there are place where i can live with D/F and i have much difficult with D/D but i never find place which i can do with D/D and not with D/F, with D/F it take me only a little more time to kill …

Ah, I’m thinking from a WvW aspect more than anything. I just modified my original post to clarify this.
That being said, I can definitely see how D/F is a lot more viable in PvE than WvW.

It’s a design aesthetic. A lot people want prestige items which means limiting them. You can limit items by making the amount of time/resources required to get them very large, or you can limit them having them in for a limited time only. We could make every item easy to attain and permanently available, but then we lose the prestige factor. If you don’t value the prestige factor, then no arguments are going to make you understand. It would be like arguing someone into liking heavy metal or kimchi. Personally, I don’t particularly value the prestige factor, but I understand that it is a HUGE motivating force that drives the engine of the economy.

What if the older items are included, but at 5 or 10x the price? Or would that upset too many people, or perhaps still defeat the purpose?

The ranking algorithm is messed up. I know someone who has done less than 25 matches and isn’t that great (I’ve personally watched him do sPvP and WvW for tens of hours), but because he wins most of them and is effectively carried by four others (who often sPvP together, whilst they don’t often sPvP with him), he somehow ranks in the top 150. Mind you, the four others that sPvP more than him are ranked quite a ways lower than he is. It’s really odd and illogical. They definitely need to tweak it a lot more.

Knowing this, my only concerns is – will there be a free version of custom arenas, or will it require someone using gems to set one up?

This is, of course, based on seeing the custom arena tokens leaked earlier this year. It would be a shame to lose this from the base features of the game (realize its way to early to be actually concerned – mostly just curious).

I’m very interested in hearing more about this as well. Having custom arenas being gem-only concerns me quite a bit.

Each skin costs 12,500 baubles, so let’s figure out the best ways to make them.

1) Do story mode speed runs (ignore mobs except for keys) for baubles

2) Do story mode w/o infantile on to get 2 bauble bubbles per zone chest; repeating first zone over and over may prove most lucrative

3) Break open world super adventure chests, kill mobs, get baubles

What are your suggestions?

2) how did you manage to get 2 all the time? After the first run I can’t get them anymore.

Create asuran character, do zone one, bank bubbles, delete character, repeat.

does it reset after a day?

The 2 bubbles are once per chest per day per character. Continuously creating new characters will get you an infinite supply of bubbles.

Frog Boss World 1 Mechanics & Guide

in Super Adventure Box

Posted by: TimeBomb.3427

TimeBomb.3427

This fight can be quite frustrating – especially if you don’t fully understand the mechanics. I spent a few continue tokens figuring out the mechanics of the fight, and what works best. Based on my experiences, here’s how the fight works and here’s what I recommend:

His rotation is usually something like the following:
1) Eyes look to the right, right foot stomps, single wave on right, doesn’t hit left platform
2) Eyes look to the left, left foot stomps, single wave on left, doesn’t hit right platform
3) Jumps up, double wave (one right after another) on all 3 platforms
4) Moves head to look in both directions then opens mouth and becomes vulnerable

Dodging Waves of Pain
His eyes look in the direction of where he will stomp!
If you find it necessary to dodge waves, I recommend dodging into the waves. Position yourself so you’re able to do this without landing in poison.
If you need to dodge the two-wave attack, make sure you have 100% endurance(2 dodges) available, or else you’re going to get hurt. Dodge from one end of the platform to the other, and then back again. This is how I dodge the entirety of both waves.

Jewel Shards
You need to throw a jewel shard into his mouth right when he opens it, or chances are you’re too late.
His mouth stays open for four seconds.

Missed the jewel shard?
If you don’t throw the jewel shard in in time, he does a sweeping tongue attack. Dodge in the direction that the tongue is coming from.

I find that it is easiest to dodge the tongue by standing on the platform that will be hit by the tongue first. This is usually(always?) the right-most platform. Right when the frog turns his head to the right, dodge once. Congratulations – you have dodged the tongue attack.

General Strategy
What I recommend is making sure that one or two jewel shards are on the center platform already, and stand on the stones surrounded by disappearing lily pads. Wait for his rotation to reach the point where he’s about to open his mouth.

You can’t get jewel shards when he’s about to do it, so make sure you have some ready. I recommend not picking them up until he starts opening his mouth.

Hit him in with the jewel shards, and if everything went well, he should be dazed. Everyone should smack him with your weapon. When he gets the invulnerability buff on him, everyone should back away – unless you don’t have any more jewel shards.

If you have no jewel shards, one person should stay and hit him a few times after he goes invulnerable. You’ll get one or two jewel shards, often before he does another attack. You may still need to dodge a wave attack though.

Then just go back to the safe stone and wait until he’s about to open his mouth again. Repeat until he’s dead.

G’luck everyone and have fun out there!

Skill Lag is Killing Me - Literally!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

TimeBomb.3427

What you’re describing is connection latency, check if the rest of your WvW raid is having the same issues when you experience it. If the majority (There’ll always be a few playing on dial-up) are not suffering it then the issue is entirely on your end and is not something Arenanet can “address”

Performing a ping test and tracert with the arenanet servers will help verify whether latency is the issue. If the ping rate is more than 150-200ms or you are seeing “spikes” of high high values or lost packets, then latency is almost certainly the cause, in which case you’ll want to contact your service provider and report it.

As MMO’s go GW2 has extremely good latency handling – try playing Star Trek Online with a less than perfect connection and you’ll be spitting blood, spending minutes at a time rubber banding all over the place

This isn’t a latency issue, it’s a server issue. It’s already been mentioned by a dev that this is an issue pertaining to the ability queue of the area getting overfilled – I think this was mentioned in one of the recent culling threads where the devs explained that fixing culling wasn’t going to fix the skill lag. They need either better software, hardware, or both.

I’m not really understanding what’s going on. He appeared to take quite a bit of damage. Armor of Earth, which is a utility (specifically a cantrip), is what he used. He gained protection and stability from it, as you could tell in the video. This mitigated the damage he would take by 33% but I still saw him take a lot of damage, and I saw the numbers on your screen. When he was downed and you were throwing nades, he vapor formed and didn’t take damage from much of your nades near the end there because of it.

What exactly is the problem that I’m missing? Did he not get hit by as many nades as he should have from grenade barrage?

Note that the ele almost certainly wasn’t trying to exploit anything – it’s all but a reflex of cantrip eles to use Armor of Earth when they start taking spike damage.

WvW, End of Culling and PVE?!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TimeBomb.3427

TimeBomb.3427

Hello.

I just saw the great news for WvW.

But since January Patch that I started to have Culling in PVE for the first times, mainly in Meta Events where even Mobs are Invisible sometimes!

Then, does the end of Culling affects also PVE? Or do we need to get used to “Invisible Events” in PVE?

I would like only to say, that I know Culling is also also about our Computer… but, the game must think in every kind of PCs, not only with high-end Ones.

The initial release of this system will be for WvW only. There are additional complications we need to solve with PvE due to the number and variety of creatures on screen that WvW doesn’t need to account for. Later this year, we’ll be expanding as much of the changes to the PvE open world as we can as well.

Thanks for the info! While I’m sure we all can’t wait for it to affect PvE, as others have said, I didn’t have many culling issues in PvE prior to the January patch’s tweak to culling. I’d love it if that could be reverted so that culling isn’t as bad in PvE.

So…if you have auto-loot on, you won’t see the item consumed (because it’s done automatically), and it seems like you didn’t get anything.

Wait a minute… Then why are our corpses forced to stare at lootbags when the mechanic is already there to send the loot+badges automatically to our inventory as soon as we defeat an opponent?

I imagine that, when you press the action button [default F] to loot while auto loot is enabled, instead of seeing the supply “item”, you see nothing (in your inventory or in the bottom right of your screen), thus giving the illusion that you gained nothing, even though you did actually consume the supply “item”. This is because the supply “item” is automatically consumed on pick up.

What if culling is unfixable?

in WvW

Posted by: TimeBomb.3427

TimeBomb.3427

Culling is absolutely a fixable problem, and as Habib mentioned in his MMORPG interview, we are planning to completely remove it from the game in march.

Why is it taking so long? Well, I think the best way I can describe how we’ve had to approach this problem is that it’s almost like changing a flat tire on a car that’s still moving. That’s a really rough analogy, but hopefully it helps illustrate just how difficult this would be in terms that are easier for everyone to understand.

Something like the way players render is extremely core to the engine and any change to that sort of thing could cause all kinds of other issues throughout the game. There are a lot of really complex technical problems that we needed to solve, then make sure that our changes don’t actually cause any of those odd side effects.

That being said, we’re confident that been able to solve those problems on the technical side. We still have a bit more testing to do, but we’re not expecting any major issues to pop up at this point, so we’re really looking forward to flipping that switch and getting rid of culling for good!

We’ll have a blog post coming up sometime in the next month to go into more details about the culling fixes and what you can expect.

Could we expect to get better fps too?

Based on what I’ve read about how they are planning to fix culling, part of their solution includes heavily optimizing the client’s rendering of characters. If I were to make a rough educated guess, I would say that it’s not impossible that we see a better frame rate or in some way more fluid graphics.

Fiery Greatsword - Exploit or Overpowered

in Elementalist

Posted by: TimeBomb.3427

TimeBomb.3427

I don’t think this is an exploit, it’s just using your environment intelligently. Normally the attack does damage while you are moving. Even though you may be in a position where you can’t move, it continues to deal damage as expected. The same goes for Burning Speed. Using it up close against an enemy that’s pinned up on a wall, wherein you don’t move, will deal a lot of damage.

lvl 100 Test Ring on GW2DB. Lvl Cap Increase?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: TimeBomb.3427

TimeBomb.3427

In regards to level cap, here’s a quote from a recent interview Colin did (Pay close attention to the underlined and bolded remarks):

Does that same assumption apply to any potentional expansion and the level cap? You’ve said the level cap went to 100. In my MMO history an increase in level means an increase in power and I’m not assuming that’s going to be case in Guild Wars 2 or…?

Colin: I don’t know at this point, we’re really not focused very much on that stuff. We’re really focused on just “how do we make the core live game we’ve got as strong as possible?” So we haven’t really looked at what the answers to those questions are. Certainly at some point we might raise the level cap and with that that could mean that your stats all go up another 10 levels, I think leveling is easy enough in Guild Wars 2 that that’s not that big of a deal.

It was more of the “I’ve gone and got my exotic armor, I’ve gone to all the dungeons here, I leave the game for a few months and because of an expansion sudden I then have to go buy and farm all my gear again because the stats have gone up.

Colin: I think in other games that’s super frustrating and I would hope we not do something along those lines. I think we can do things that are unique to Guild Wars 2 that are different than that.

Daily Tracker - Still Collapses

Posted by: TimeBomb.3427

TimeBomb.3427

The patch note on this was confusing. The Daily Tracker still collapses when other events and such pop up on the right side of the screen.

The way the feature works is that if the tracker auto-collapses it will auto-expand the next time you make progress in an achievement. Clicking to collapse will turn off the auto-expand behavior.

Argh, that’s unfortunate, though I suppose it’s a step in the right direction. That was one of my least favorite aspects of the daily tracker. I constantly had to re-expand it manually, and it looks like I’ll still have to.

Auto expanding whenever I enter an event, often one that I do not plan to participate in as I am just passing through, is annoying.

If it auto-expanded after leaving the DE, that’d be nice. But it’s only when we make progress in the achievement? I still have to re-expand it manually prior so that I remember everything that I need to do, or otherwise I may not even know what to make progress in.
