T4: SoS/CD/SBI (5/17/13)

Ok not impressed SoS, I spend countless gold and time trying to defend sosbl with limited numbers, while we have FIVE commanders on SBIbl trying to take a keep a holding ONE paper tower. The result? no camps on SOSBL briar lost lake lost,Garrison gone wood gone. Lets be clear karma training has a place, but NOT while our map clearly is not under control. CD took briar with 6 people and then there zerg came and took the rest. Show weakness with camps pulls more to your map and the result is a red or blue sosbl. Time after time i see commanders pulling what little defenders we have on sosbl to basically karma train, trading paper towers/keeps for our upgraded BL should not be an option. Its a good server but we need to play smarter imo we only win because our peak is longer than the other server ATM.

Also commanders jobs are not just running around with groups, far too often im told a commander has been on the map for x amount of hours but little has been upgraded. As a commander you should be keeping an eye on upgrades and camps as much as running around. North towers only had 1 upgraded wall and 1 gate upgrade and no other upgrades and crag had paper gates.

At the end of the day if/when sos get to t3 this kind of play will leave us in 3rd place until we are kicked back to t4.

We need the bigger W3 guilds to hold a presents on sosbl when if they can, even calling ppl into the map takes too long sometimes more so when 5 golems are involved like at garrison.

Going to take a break from wvw until june now but goodluck sos and i hope we can sort out these problems soon.

Yes what happened today on SOS bl was bad, really really bad, but typing about it in the match thread is not necessary or appropriate. That’s a message for our internal forums.
I suspect you will start getting taken more seriously by the other commanders when you stop swearing and getting abusive when someone disagrees with your opinion.

I saw your D/P build that you use and honestly, you should be using D/D instead. The lack of ini regen and stealth buffs defeats the point of using D/P.

Nah. Ever since Dancing Dagger nerf, dagger off-hand has been pretty bad.

The utility that Headshot and Black Powder bring are far superior to what the Dagger offhand can provide. Shadowshot is also much more useful than death blossom.

Hmm, I see. I just don’t think that running D/P without +2/sec ini regen and +2 ini on stealth is very safe cause to open with stealth you’re already dumping 9 of your 15 initiative which imo is dangerous since you have no ini regen boosts. D/P skills are generally quite high ini req. skills so for me having +3ini/sec regen and +2 ini on stealth is a must. I don’t like initiating pre-fight stealth with my utilities cause I generally reserve them for mid combat. Imo, sacrificing the 25 in DA for 25 in SA is worth it for the extra survivability you get.

D/P can stay in stealth forever when no one is around. That alone should tell you some thing.

Before it was shortbow that was a must have for all thieves. Now its D/P.

Because stealth is oh so useful when no one is around… D/P is the flavour of the month though I really don’t know why. It’s an amazing build to troll people with and that’s about it. Far FAR less dangerous than a glass cannon D/D thief, or a P/D condition spammer.

D/P is a hard counter to a P/D condition spammer. D/D is just all round squishy and gets a lucky backstab when you’re not looking.

I’ll believe that when I see it. I find it hard to take a build seriously that does bugger all damage while remaining so fragile that a well timed breeze causes death. The micro managing the constant stealth is a pain in the kitten as well.

Either you don’t know how to spec/gear for it or you’re bad at it. I did great with it before I got bored with it as I prefer a different play style. Though I still keep it as my off set even though I’m not speced for it any more. It’s not crazy backstab damage. But it still hurts the damage they can out put and its survivability insane. You are basically condition immune and your enemy is blinded/dying.

I guess that means every other thief that uses it(every second one since its meta) also isn’t speced for it and doesn’t know what the kitten they’re doing? It’s the ultimate troll build, and you’re a self confessed troll so it doesn’t shock me that you love it. >_>
Also really any thief build should be virtually immune to conditions and be able to spam blind (with c&d) they aren’t hard to trait for

Pretty sure Jade Quarry has a coverage gap in the toilet break between SEA and Euro changeover. They could use another guild to make sure the flush is working correctly.

Or maybe Blackgate if you want to be a part of their Guinness world record attempt for the most number of people that can be crammed into a server. Sideways.

Hey SoS!

Took you long enough to get NE Tower back on your Borderland. We loved all of those tasty badges. I heard one our guys made almost 100 badges and like 4-5g from you tonight.

Still great back and forth fights. You definitely earned the wxp & loot from our dead bodies.

To be fair I got 50 + badges off your people as well from that siege. You should try that again some time, preferably when sbi isn’t also attacking us so we can be more prompt and not keep you waiting. >_>

I know t1-3 were blacked out but BG had a solid argument

If you’re a guild that has recently transferred on or off of one of these servers can you please contact me by forum mail and tell me why or how your experience has been.

BG always have a solid argument. If talking earnt points for the wvw scores, bg would win EVERY week lol.

The only reason Ehmry didn’t do well in tier 4 before was because of Yaks/Maguuma. Now that both of them are in tier 3, I think Ehmry can easily win tier 4.

It seems that you have a lot of faith in us… or is that sarcasm? I can’t see your face (or hear your voice for that matter).

My goal is to put up a good fight in T4, assuming we can get out of this deadlock. Based on my last experience in T4, I think that’s a reasonable goal. Easily win? That sounds extremely unlikely.

Do you have a night crew? If not I highly doubt you will beat t4 and up. As far as I know the only server to ever do that with na only and be successful is sor.

When my server dropped from t1 champs sea of sorrows and started to fall down tiers. My guild found out how lower tiers handle tough competition and fights. They just move to the map my guild was not on. Or stack one BL so much we end up fighting the whole server. Lower tiers say they don’t want to be t1 yet they play the ppt more hard up then any t1 server.

Bottom line t1 or bust, I’m on SOR now and it’s the best fighting I’ve seen yet.

That was t3 and dragonbrand especially. It’s a hell of a lot better now. CD and SBI aren’t cowards, and keep coming and trying new tactics even if they wipe.

Customers or not, the fact that World vs. World is balanced around a server having a full population at all times of the day and night is an absolute joke.

It’s not fun, and it end up being repetitive.

Did you know it is always day some where in the world?

Did you know it is always night somewhere in the word? What’s your point?

I don’t think you get it. When we (the North American players) play, we’re technically night capping the Eurasian players.

Also WvW is not meant to be fair. It is a persistent 24/7 open zone battle ground. People put too much emphasis on the points when the points are pretty meaningless. Just have fun whether you’re the underdog defending or the zerg rolling over objectives for karma/exp.

If you’re not having fun. WvW is not for you then.

First time I have found myself agreeing with one of your posts in a while…lol it’s completely true though, learn to play for the fights not the score.

When I say you guys fight well I kitten mean it, that’s not condescending its a compliment. Granted we have a couple of forum trolls, but they dont speak for the server, and realistically, they’re nothing compared to the trolls of the past.

Don’t care. Intent vs impact here. It seems like a compliment to you, but I’d rather that the server just move on and quit being the big fish in the little pond.

Well, after skimming the thread it looks like the general consensus is that Jade Quarry would be ideal for your guild. You’d be most welcome, of course.

They want a server between tiers 5-7 which jq is not.
The consensus is that jq needs to stop spamming recruitment threads that have specific conditions on the transfer which preclude jq from being an option.
I was hoping since noodles bailed your recruiting spam would take a hit, I see I was mistaken.

Why engis are called bad is cuz no one knows how to properly build them

People think engis are bad, because so few use them. Seeing one In wvw is like spotting an exotic animal. They’re excellent 1v1. The issue with them in Zerg vs Zerg is grenades are a liability when your opponents use a lot of retaliation. I see more engis slay themselves than get killed by that said Zerg.

Zerker gear is bad for roaming full stop any half decent thief or ele will dps you down in 3 seconds. But I guess we are heading off topic.

All the classes have viable builds and specs for WvW saying any is better than another is entirely situational.

The consensus is that rangers and engi’s are bad in WvW but any good Ranger or Engi will tell you a different story.

I love rangers that spec full bunker and think that it makes them good in WvW, then list off the number of specs that “don’t count because they’re OP” that beat them 1v1. In group fights they’re a non-issue, and in zergs they simply don’t fill niches that are needed.

All rangers should say they’re bad, because they need a lot of alterations, especially to utilities/spirits.

I suggest you go watch this guy:

Firstly that build only works because he’s using a racial skill, secondly confusion was nerfed yesterday lol so even that wouldn’t work even more…

That’s where the necro zerker builds are somewhat different. Due to necro class mechanics we can mitigate large amounts of burst damage, it’s what makes necro zerkers viable because they get slightly less burst and mobility themselves.
It’s semantics really. If you’re good, you can play well with kitten builds, and if you’re bad than you’re going to be bad even with good builds.

Rangers need a lot of help but unlike other classes they don’t complain nearly enough and get offended when everyone says they’re bad. Complain and changes will happen! It’s how the world works.

Oh I see what I didn’t understand, zerker gear is the best choice for a condition based class. You are such a good player you can kill zergs by yourself and guardian is a really bad support class in large groups. Yeah my tiny little brain, I must try to broaden my experience so I can fully understand your genius.

Zerker gear IS the best choice for a necro yes, I will continue to say this because conditions are broken right now and I have tested every build under the sun for necro. Just saying the damage is very high allowing multiple people to be dropped fast when I dive into a big zerg and do a quick AOE well bomb.

Zerker gear is 100% viable for necro, as is condition damage you just need to adjust your build and gear accordingly. 9/10 players would prefer condition based builds because quite frankly the necro zerker build is a lot harder to use and not always worth the trouble. As a roamer, bring spectral walk, and bring corrupt boon. You will die half as often and probably never lose against bunker classes(necros never should) just my 2cents.

Necro needs 5+ to shine? Really? I think YOU need to L2P and try different builds with one. I can solo run with a necro all day long sir, can even well bomb multiple guardians down in a matter of seconds. Boon strip/Boon conversion + over 10k well dmg+ fear/locks + 6k dagger crits = death. See the worst part about this is, my main isn’t even a mesmer yet I’m still defending the cause because it’s THAT bad.

You can solo roam but you don’t have a stunbreaker / teleport. Right. Enjoy being hard-countered. Pan your camera more and pop stability when you see a thief basilisk venom and stealth. If they get the jump on you then you already messed up with your build.

My mesmer is fine. It’s harder and I think the nerf is overkill, but I still doubt I’ll ever lose a 1v1.

No, they can’t. Learn math before commenting because PRE Mug nerf their maximum output on the standard d/p spike rotation was ~24k, post nerf its not even remotely close to that (its roughly 10k less damage).

Also: What are cantrips? Use them.

Well on one of my characters I have witnessed this after the nerf. Thief out of stealth backstabs then stunlocked me, killed me and disappeared in about 2-3 seconds when I had over 20k hp. And I have seen the same when thief was on my team. So maybe you should learn to play aswell? Maybe only good thieves can pull it off I don’t know.

You got stunlocked and sat there for 2-3 seconds eating the damage without doing anything? Sounds like l2p problems to me.

Umm sat there? If you are stunlocked/immobilized and a necro you cant teleport/stealth away unless you are god which you just might be?

Fair enough, my apologies then. Ducks google “spectral walk” sounds like you need to use it…

You’ve never dueled a competent ranger with some tpvp experience apparently.

SoS is completely dominating on the battlefield from pure skill and determination. Keep up the good work SoS, you are clearly the superior server!

Really not necessary Azure. our winning is coverage based. I have said it before and I will again. The skills per population of this tier is higher than any of the others I have been in.

I of course can only speak for myself, but i never really hear our people dissing our opponents on map chat… Unlike in t3 when db and yb would run and hide from big fights so badly that it caused another two of our guilds to leave from boredom.
Always good fights to be had with cd and sbi.

Would have to agree, t3 was pvdoor but t4 actually provides competition during oceanic time, both CD and SBI play a awesomely fun meta of open field fights rather then bunkering down i remember Yak’s wasn’t that bad but i remember Dragonbrand did this and it was extremely annoying.

Dragonbrand was definitely worse. No doubt about that, still, as vizinah have shown in eu, playing cowardly can get you a lot of wins, so db will probably conquer t1 lol.

This weekend will tell us if jq is going down to hod implosion and bg has the new top spot. Theres really no excuse as to how the end of this week is going.

With free transfers in the past, the days of hod/Et implosions are thankfully gone with them. I find it hard to imagine any current t1 server dropping past t5 under any circumstances.

Sbi, SOS, CD three servers completely gutted (recently) doing perfectly fine in t4. Hod and Et still struggling in t8 even after all this time…

SoS is completely dominating on the battlefield from pure skill and determination. Keep up the good work SoS, you are clearly the superior server!

Really not necessary Azure. our winning is coverage based. I have said it before and I will again. The skills per population of this tier is higher than any of the others I have been in.

I of course can only speak for myself, but i never really hear our people dissing our opponents on map chat… Unlike in t3 when db and yb would run and hide from big fights so badly that it caused another two of our guilds to leave from boredom.
Always good fights to be had with cd and sbi.

It kinda annoys me really. One of the great advantages I always had on my necro was being so badly underestimated. Slaughtering fools that think a necro is easy meat was amusing. That’s all gone now though.

I will thanks, unless I see massive ele participation rates drop(which I haven’t) Mesmer is a different matter, apparently 60-80% of wvw mesmers were running a confusion based build…

they killed my main character D/D Ele…i spent 100g to get commander tag on my ele and now she is pretty much useless in WvW. Anet killed my main character so i quit gw2

So in translation you quit the game because you couldn’t adapt to changes made to what, two skills? Eles are FAR from useless in wvw even after the nerf, you just need to expand your horizons a bit.

BGs asians wont get hit with this because theyre Korean, so ya. (At least WM is Korean)

I wouldn’t be so sure actually. Granted they’re just rumours, but supposedly they will add some South Korean language servers as well to complete the new region.

World Ability Points: Good Starters?

I’m pretty sure he means that the only smart place to put your points in is Arrow cart mastery.

Anything against guards or mercenaries is useless because if you need help against those, then you are just a scrub. You don’t sound like a scrub so you can skip those.

Siege bunker and siege attack seem pretty good but you can only get a max of 5% for each. 5% is very very little. If 3 ballista shots kill you without full siege bunker then 3 ballista shots will still kill you with full siege bunker.

Supply capacity is really good. 5 extra supply is extremely powerful. And extremely expensive so we can skip that one.

Ballista mastery is ok, especially if you can get the extra skill and the range. Too bad ballista see less usage nowadays. Still this would not be a waste.

And then there is arrow cart mastery.
For very little points you get a kittenton of stuff that is pretty kittening OP. Increased range kills pretty much most cataspots that were being used in the game up till now. The damage buff for the second ability is huge (don’t forget that all arrowcart skills have just been buffed, the nr1 shot by 80%, already). For only 75 points you get all that and you even get a poison shot that unveils.
This arrow cart mastery is breaking the game and incredibly OP, you would have to be stupid to pick something else first.

I agree with all points except the last one.

It’s not arrows cart mastery that’s breaking the game imho, it’s the new arrow carts on their own without any ranks whatsoever. Even if you removed the ranks they would still be op. Apart from that you’re 100% dead on, and this is the advice I give to anyone that asks in map chat.

Victory is ours finally Finally its blackgates first turn ever to be top server of tier 1
JQ put on a tough game, can’t be sure we are going to win but it looks like it.

Score update:
BG- 203,276 (390)
JQ- 189,950 (115)
SoR- 162,906 (190)

Early Congrats! If you wake up tomorrow morning with a lead it’s all but done. JQ’s only chance is a huge showing by FOO and company when they log later as they have made up 10k++ overnight points numerous times. However, based on waha’s recent comments, it sounds like most of the Chinese alliance disbanded due to burnout, etc.

I hope a recent 2nd place showing alongside the news shared by waha does not mean players/guilds are going to abandon JQ in mass. Will be interesting what happens next week.

Chinese Alliance is not disbanded due to burnout, it is disbanded due to future localization of GW2 in chinese. This will (maybe) of course lock these chinese people from playing in international server (all chinese people will be locked down). They can only play in international server if they use VPN (which has a magically high ping). Maybe some of them still playing, but that it until this server comes to live. (Chinese China people =/= Chinese Taiwan people (I mean China and Taiwan is not same). Taiwanese can still play in international server (maybe…)).

This can be seen with LoL. Due to LoL license is bought by a company which based on SEA and Oceanic, all oceanic and SEA player cannot play in the international (US/EU) server with normal means. (you use some code, VPN to play it. Some of country is lucky enough due to their IP address not in blacklist register of RIOT (they can play normally).

TLDR:
Good fight BG, at least some of JQ now have slapped and wake up.

Some of JQ forget how to fight some old buddy like WM zerg blob (I mean WM zerg is not only WM (as they actually have less number 20 or so (maybe less) but they lead some of the zerg), to have fast response (I miss when JQ was beaten by SBI and SoS (and HoD) again and again, JQ have superb response at that time), to have a kitten tactic, etc.

My record is 300 as a militia zerger in about give hours. I would be surprised if players from guilds like RG can’t get many times that number.

Necros are very good. One of the best actually, the issue with them is the difficulty in learning to play the class. Now that more people are starting to get a hang of them they’re starting to get the respect they deserve.

Just don’t play a ranger. They’re so unbelievably bad it’s not funny. It’s literally been 3-4 months since one has defeated me, outside Zerg combat.

What he’s trying to get is apart from your own server no one else likes jade quarry. You have destroyed a lot of servers through legitimate and illegitimate means alike and pretty much everyone hates you for it. You also created the bandwagon super server concept that every t1 server has to commit to just to stay competitive and avoid getting steam rolled.

Props to you for winning every week, just don’t expect to be universally loved for it.

I would also say sea of sorrows though I am biased and we’re currently in t4 and as such are outside the scope of what you’re looking for. If you’re insistent about being in t5-t7 go emry bay, simply because they’re the last decent wvw server. Any lower than that and you’re not going to experience the meta or fight high quality oppositiokittenmilar numbers.

Im just questioning your abilities is all. I can and will adapt to a new build. No problem with it. I don’t feel the need to rage over it in the forums like im some kid in a supermarket chucking a tanty because mummy won’t give them their lolly. I adapt and I use what I have. Why is it you guys can’t do the same? Its what any player who is skilled would do. They play the meta to its potential. And like every game out there, metas change from time to time. And again the good players adapt. The bad ones go cry in the forums.

Fail troll is fail. That cowbell audio nerf must have hit you really hard… I lolled at you questioning VOTF skill. Go troll someone of a comparable skill level, like the fergusons crossing pugs for instance… Oh and FYI changing servers to whomever is no. 1 is not “adapting” to change.

Both your proposals are unrealistic, in real life a trebuchet would deal damage to another trebuchet for example and not be immune to it somehow. And the thought of “global supply” isn’t either realistic, you can hopefully figure out in what way.

Who cares about realism? We’re talking about how making the game more fun here. Or at least, I do.

Try facerubbing 12 pre-nerfed arrowcarts… sure…

So you’re telling me that all that is changed is that now you need 4 instead of 12? If that’s the case, why all the rage?

Because previously it took 12 people to hold off 30-40 people, now it takes 4!

Is that what it is like in Europe? Can 4 players hold off 40 VoTF players?

How many Jq players does it take to kill 40 VOTF? Can’t be done, not enough spots in map….

Out of curiousity, what timezone is HIRE based?

I usually see the most numbers for HIRE late NA early Oceanic times, then a few small numbers during SEA

and its always a pleasure butting heads against them

Does HIRE still run mostly glass, think i remember someone saying that once.

Ahhh hire. I miss shattering those glass zergs. So many bags that I’m pretty sure garret broke one of his legs tripping over them on one particular evening. It’s kinda sad though, you can only ever best them once because they always change maps after being wiped… :,(

you means Anet will set up SEA server for SEA player in future ? Where do you heard this news ? If this is true i do believe most of the SEA player will go to SEA server to get better connection.

And for connection: it really doesn’t matter where you live and play. I live in Europe and play on a NA server. I got zero connectivity lag. Zero.

Today’s inter-continental internet connections are very fast, probably about as fast as your connection to your host.

And GW22 doesn’t alot alot of bandwith either.

Really, location is not a factor.

That’s just your experience. Plenty of people swear the lag can be really terrible. Even if you forget location (you shouldnt but..) language is another deciding factor.
If this happens it will be a major change to wvw in na. Especially in t1. Take away sea and oceanic, sor would be the dominant server. Jq wouldn’t even last in t2 with their na.
