everyone is getting double team thats the nature of a 3 way fight….

I never said it wasn’t a part of the game. But because a server is getting double teamed, that doesn’t mean said server is imploding. Don’t you throw your ellipses at me, Mr!

It’s completely a lie that there are more ways to remove conditions then there are to apply them and it will continue to be impossible until there aren’t any auto-attacks that apply conditions. These players get rewarded for spamming their 1 skills that requires absolutely no skill to use and yet it’s still effective.

Plant Dog Transformation,

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Tom.8029

So I bought these tonics expecting them to turn me into a Sylvan hound but was surprised to discover that I was instead turned into a wolf.

I’m not sure if this is a bug or not. But being turned into a wolf doesn’t exactly fit the name of the tonic or the description which reads, “Double-click to become a plant dog.”

After completing a heart in the Southeast corner of Bloodtide Coast, the region is called Whisperwill Bogs, you can buy the tonics from a merchant named Cesseilia for 329 Karma.

The heart is titled: “Help Cesseilia defend and research the oasis.”

I think Soothing Wave (I think there was another trait that was in that position but was replaced by soothing wave. I don’t think the old trait was called soothing wave) gave you regeneration when you activated Signet of Water, Mist Form, and Frost Bow. This was pretty great when you coupled it with the trait that removed a condition upon gaining regeneration. You could have also combined soothing disruption that gave regeneration upon using a cantrip. Mistform…. Bam! Cleanse two conditions.

How does Stone Heart actually work?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Tom.8029

Tom.8029

Question: So if you have Stone Heart equipped, does this prevent you from receiving critical hits in general or only prevent the critical damage?

I’m asking this because just about every profession has a trait that says, “Gain (such and such) buff when you critically hit an enemy.”

So if you aren’t affected by critical hits at all, will they no longer receive these benefits?

Similarly, will you no longer say…. gain regeneration when hit by a critical hit when in Earth from…. uh… whatever that water trait is called.

How do you stay alive in PvE?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Tom.8029

Tom.8029

Okay, okay. Let me stop you right there. If you’re running around in Lion’s Arch with your Elementalist in berserker gear, then duh; you’re going to die. The game right now, is attempting to steer people away from zerging and going overly glassy. As such, using old methods are not going to work as well.

I know not everyone runs extremely squishy. I’ve been running Cleric’s gear recently and it works very well in PvE, WvW, and PvP. Now mind you, it’s not going to save you against insane damage, but it provides greate healing and steady damage that will keep you alive. I’ve also been pairing it with Sigils of Battle and Life. When I get my 25 stacks of Life, I swap it out for Impact. It seems to work really well with dual daggers.
My build also focuses highly around boon duration. So if you’re doing well with blasting your fire fields, you’ll have plenty of might to fill in that small gap in power.

I can cure most conditions with it (30 water), do great damage, and out.heal most damage.

The way the dragons create their minions vary upon the dragon. While you’re correct about Primordus; Zhaitan, Kralkatorrik, and Jormag corrupt life forms and turn them into minions. If the dragon underground is Mordremoth, we aren’t sure how that dragon creates its minions. If it’s Primordus, then you are correct. We’ll just have to wait and see.

I forgot to mention. You’re also correct that someone most likely needs to be killed before they become a risen. I’ve never heard of anyone spontaneously becoming a risen. Although, it’s possible it has happened before and we just never heard about it. But you could consider killing something as Zhaitan’s method of transformation, not so much life being a barrier to that transformation.

Why LA Won't Be Completely Destroyed

in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath

Posted by: Tom.8029

Tom.8029

They’ve cornered themselves into a lose-lose situation.

If they don’t destroy LA completely never to return then all the hype about BIG PERMANENT changes was all just a lie.

If they do destroy LA completely never to return then their entire premise and argument that the first season of LS was slow because they had to build up all the holiday assets is also shot since everything happened in LA. They will have to rebuild all those assets, thus meaning another crappy LS season.

Pretty much any way I look at it the players are going to lose.

Don’t forget. There’s still one more update left after this one is put into play for this Living World Arc. And we have no idea what’s coming after this. So it’s possible there will be more game-changing effects after this one, too.

Hi Everyone!

Drgn has recently undergone a roster purge of inactive members and we’re looking to bring up the numbers a bit. I’m looking for people who enjoy doing dungeon runs (FotM, Arah CoF), guild events (rush, trek, puzzle, bounty, challenge), and world bosses (Shadow Behemoth (SB), Fire Elemental (FE) and Orrian temples).

I’m also looking for people who enjoy running havoc groups in WvW and would also enjoy running with a guild commander on Wednesday and Friday nights.

All character levels, classes, and skill levels are welcome. The guild currently has nearly 300 members and we have no issues in helping you level, WvW training, and answering any questions you may have!

Requirements and what to expect

As a member of the guild, we expect you to be friendly and courteous to people while sporting the [Drgn] tag. We will not tolerate trash talking about any guilds at any time or negatively talking about another player at any time behind their back. We do encourage constructive criticism and sharing of different ideas (opinions) in a civilized manner.
Representation is not constantly required, however, we would like you to represent the guild as much as you can and interact with the guild’s members (Socializing, helping out guild mates, and playing the game with them from time to time). After all, what good is being in a guild if you don’t talk to any of its members?
For guild events and WvW, we use Ventrillo and Teamspeak. We will ask you to download one or both of them for enhanced communication while playing the game so we can be more organized.
Membership to our website is not required, but we encourage you to join upon entering the guild.

If you would like to be a part of the guild and would be willing to accept these terms, please mail my account or send a whisper/mail to Tom.8029 and I’d be happy to talk to you about it.

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Tom.8029

Tom.8029

What are you talking about? I said the elementalist downed state is good for closing the gap between yourself and reinforcements and for buying time. Avoiding a stomp buys time, doesn’t it??? If there is no one around to help you (reinforcements) then it isn’t good.

Like oh my god. I swear people don’t even read before responding.

Besides, after that first Vapor form, you can’t do anything for about 8 seconds except use the auto vulnerability or the immobilize. So again, the immobilize is buying you time, unless you manage to kill your enemy or they’re already close enough to stomp you. So no, it isn’t too good. Certainly not warranting a nerf.

Also, if you get immobilized while downed and then try to Vapor Form away, you won’t go anywhere and if they started the stomp just before you were in vapor form and finish it after you’re out of it, you get stomped because you were immobilized and couldn’t move.

Let’s also not forget that Elementalists, Mesmers, and Thieves all have low base health and armor. As such, they’re more likely to be put in downed state more quickly than other professions. So maybe stronger downed-state skills are justified.

I read your entire post bro… and quoted the part that I felt summed it up. Seems to me like you’re trying to downplay how strong these downed states are when compared to the rest.

Preventing that first stomp is by far the most important thing when you’re downed. 100% + ability to move unless you get a 3s+ long root on you is frekkin’ epic. Even the dev’s said it’s the strongest downed state when they changed it. Being able to root the ele now doesn’t change that. 100% denial for 3s is something no other class can boast.

Lower armor/HP doesn’t mean you die fast in this game.

Eles (can) have high mobility/prot uptime/regen/multiple heals.

Mesmers have a LOT of get out of jail free cards (stealth/deception/teleports/good stunbreakers/pseudo sunbreaks/high prot, aegis, regen uptimes…)

Thieves can have evades/blinds/stealth/teleports/tons of dodges.

If you’re dying fast it’s player error (build/gear/gameplay), not the class itself.

Exactly. These professions have these mechanics (Mobility, protection, regeneration, stealth, etc) because they need them as a result of their lower health and lower armor to survive.

Here’s an extreme scenario. A warrior and an elementalist are both standing next to each other with armor on, the same set up (attributes) and no traits for anything like protection or regeneration any of that stuff. Then there’s an enemy between them that attacks both targets every time it hits.

Now since the warrior has heavy armor and higher health, the warrior will die after the elementalist. So tell me how armor and base health don’t affect how quickly you die. Like I’ve said, every moment in the fight matters.

An example of how armor affects the game. In heart of the mists, there are those 3 golems that you can attack to see how much damage you can inflict. There’s a Heavy, Medium, and Light armor golem. Now why would they have them if there wasn’t a notable difference in the attacks on each type of armor. The armor differences don’t mean you’ll die instantaneously, but they certainly play a role.

“If you’re dying fast it’s player error (build/gear/gameplay), not the class itself.”

So learn to deal with elementalists and their vapor form. You’re going to use any ridiculous claim to support your opinion anyway. And it is ridiculous. :P

They didn’t create the overflow so only certain people could fight Tequatl. They overflowed the normal server to create the overflow and then ferried people into that overflow. In doing this, they could avoid afk players taking up slots so that they would have more people fighting Tequatl.

Some of them can use a little tuning. Ranger is completely screwed if the enemy trying to stomp them has invulnerability or stability. I’m not sure what the warrior’s is. Mesmer’s is probably the best for getting the enemy killed before they get the stomp. Thief and Elementalist’s really aren’t that good. Keep in mind that I’m speaking from the perspective of being downed while the enemy is trying to stomp, not a downed vs downed fight. They are only good for buying time or closing the gap between them and reinforcements. But then again, that’s kind of what most of them are.

[PvP-wvw] Thief- Backstab

in Profession Balance

Tom.8029

Aha. I see you went and made your own thief-oriented thread. Good for you. The best I can do on my Elementalist, which I mentioned earlier, is to put up my shocking aura while I have protection on, endure the hit so they get revealed, and continue to attack. I know Auras don’t last long, but I have access to lots of protection, so that helps. But I know not every class does.

Most thieves gear offensively. So if you can manage to catch them, they can be killed quickly. I know it’s tough to hit them. haha.

Currently, I’m running a Cleric set with tons of boon duration. It’s been working pretty well against thieves. I have protection up constantly to remove some of the damage, constant vigor so I can dodge plenty, and tons of regeneration so I can heal the damage that does get through. The armor isn’t much (about 2600) but every little helps, I suppose. Lastly, with food and might, I can get about 3,500 attack. So the attacks that do get through will hurt.

As it stands, a thief that has the means and the will to not get caught can at any moment stealth and run away. Until something is done to it, if ever, we’re just going to have to live with that. But do try Cleric gear, if you haven’t already. I think it’s pretty good. I guess that also depends on what profession you are.

When done correctly, the things I have listed can improve your chances of survival against a thief in stealth. A thief can kill someone in a single hit, so how does a second not affect a battle?

Furthermore, we’re talking about how to deal with stealth, not that it is a broken mechanic and should be fixed. There are other threads for that, go complain there.

The shocking Aura is simply a first line of defense, you should always have a back-up plan. If all else fails, that’s why you have dodge. But how do you dodge something you can’t see, you’ll ask. Go play a thief, learn their movements. What would you do in that situation? Then move to react to what they’ll do. But I guess some of it IS luck. But there’s a little aspect of luck in everything. How is an effective way of dealing with something not a counter to that something?

If you play rock paper scissors with someone and they keep using rock, a way to deal with that rock is to use paper. Thus paper COUNTERS rock.

Unless you mean something that automatically removes stealth. If you play Ranger, you can use “Sick ’em” to reveal them for 4 seconds. That’s really it, unless you’re in WvW and use a stealth trap. But then you need to build it ahead of time and lure the thief into it. So you have to anticipate a fight with a thief. Most of the time, you won’t see them coming.

When a thief uses stealth, you have a few options:
1) Use something that protects yourself.
2) Use something that punishes the thief for hitting you.
3) Anticipate a strike while they’re in stealth and dodge.
4) Use an AoE that damages the thief and stand in it.

For example, I’m an elementalist and one thing I like to do is use Shocking Aura. The moment they attack, they get revealed and they get stunned for hitting me, allowing me to attack.

A while ago before the recent patch, when they had that trait that gave regeneration upon the activation of Signet of Water( or was it waves?), Mist Form, and Frost Bow, that trait was the only thing that made Signet of Water even remotely usable because you could pair it with the removal of a condition upon gaining regeneration. After a while, I decided to just replace it with another cantrip, since you can gear them to give regeneration as well. But the removal of one cantrip every 10 seconds was a nice little addition to the freeze and regeneration, although it should be better.

But when they had that trait to give regeneration upon the activation of Mist Form AS WELL as the regeneration upon using a cantrip, I was able to cure 2 conditions for using one skill. I had a lot of fun with that.

And now Frost bow gives no regeneration, which is less of an incentive to bring it.
