The way PvP is right now, there’s too much skill spam and random damage. So what do you expect? I play an Elementalist. If I don’t have some way to remove the excessive amount of conditions coming from everywhere, I’ll die in 2 seconds.

So use less conditions and I’ll use less condition cleanse. Deal?

You could give the highest score server some kind of benefit that would convince the lower score server to target them to remove said benefit. Or you could give the lowest score some kind of benefit to make them more able to compete.

I sort of like the idea of making the winning server’s objectives worth more points to capture, as a small baby step.

Potential Boondoggle,

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tom.8029

Tom.8029

Hi everyone. I just wanted to take this moment to discuss something I thought was interesting with the current PvP and WvW back items.

So currently, the precursor for both back items is the product of four lesser back items: one fine, masterwork, rare, and exotic; what I wanted to talk about is the reason for the 4th tier of the precursor. If you think about it, as soon as a player has all four tiers of the precursor simultaneously, they’re going to just immediately forge them to make the final tier of the precursor. What I’m saying is, the 4th tier precursor is nearly pointless.

SO, my suggestion is, replace the 4th tier of the back item with an item instead of another back item skin. That way, we save developer time in making the legendary, should they choose to make another in the future.

This way, you’ll still have the progression of the skin from tiers 1-3, the final precursor, AND we save time for the developers in making a pointless skin no one will ever use.

Sure you could argue you will lose an exotic attribute back item, but you could just make the precursor and get one that way too (ascended). (Yes I realize there’s also the loss of a wardrobe skin, but it’s mostly likely underwhelming relative to the final precursor anyway.)

Tell me what you think.

I find it annoying when people do this. Noone actually cares except the person trying to show off.

since many people have already said in this thread that they do like seeing other people celebrate success you are incorrect when you say ‘no-one’. Ever heard of the term generosity of spirit? its the soul food of friendly mmorpg.

Yeah when people just completed their first legendary and ping it in map chat being like, “Look what I just made!” I am totally happy for them. What’s more annoying, though, is when people ping things to brag or to put down the achievements of others.

You ever sit in Lion’s Arch when someone says how they just completed a legendary and then you have another person who pings 4 of theirs? That’s super annoying. haha. And possibly even discouraging to the player, or a challenge, maybe, depending on how you look at it.

in Elementalist

This assumes everyone knows every Elementalist. And “Best” is probably open to interpretation. Even within the Elementalist profession you have different roles and attribute sets a player can use, so how are you defining best? Even then, you’re only speaking for the Elementalists you know of, so your pool is limited and answer is probably biased. So the answer is none.

I’ve also used it to prevent someone from getting on point for a little while longer in conjunction with Magnetic Grasp and Earth Overload.

Logic of stats barriers?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tom.8029

I think it’s just to encourage the play of the particular region it’s found in and to give that area a long-term presence of players. Not to mention the HoT story takes place after the original story, so players are expected to go there after they’ve done everything else, atleast in my opinion. These attribute combinations are more for end-game content. So I think it makes sense that it has to be crafted, as by the end of game you would surely have the crafting profession completed or be well on your way to doing so. Either that or you can get a nice drop from playing the content.

So I’m going to say it’s been manipulated by Flame Legion magic.

Poll to remove Daily Achivement Cap?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tom.8029

Tom.8029

I think the daily is an important part of why people login every day. Without the extra achievement points, there’s less incentive to do the daily and, consequentially, it isn’t as enticing to do, unless all they want is the 2 gold and chests that come with the individual daily.

Sure there are plenty of things for people to do every day without the daily. But I do think the daily is important to keep places populated.

As someone who isn’t yet at the daily achievement points cap, I think removing the limit would be okay. There is the current issue, however, of what to do for the people who have been at the cap for a while and have done the daily without getting achievement points. Should they be compensated for missed achievement points? Should they be only awarded for all future dailies and forgo the past ones? I don’t know the answer to that.

As an aside, I will say that people who have been doing the daily longer than I have and have already reached the cap, the fact that they can no longer be awarded points while I still can has given me an opportunity to catch up to them. Without the daily, it does get more and more difficult to increase your achievement points, so rewards become fewer and further between.

Do I think the daily is something that should even reward achievement points? Yes.
While the daily isn’t composed of particularly difficult tasks, I to think it is warranted in rewarding something in particular: consistency and perseverance. The rewards from achievement points are long term goals and the daily provides a daily push to that goal. People who do the daily more often will reach those goals more quickly.

Will increasing the cap remove some of the prestige from reaching a high achievement point level? Yes.
While most will probably not agree with me, I believe achievement points are associated with a level of prestige. To have a lot of achievement points is to have participated in and completed a vast portion of the game because achievement points are awarded based on account progress, as achievement points can only be earned once until the achievement is complete. So increasing the daily cap will result in a higher number of those achievement points, which are difficult to obtain for frequent players, coming from the daily. Which are not associated with a difficult task. As a result, achievement points will seem like more of a diluted gauge. That is, until people reach the next cap, if the cap is increased instead of removed completely.

For example, say someone has 30k ap and 15k of that is from dailies. That still means that person has done enough in the game to give them 15k more ap from other aspects not involved in dailies. That is a lot of ap from the game and that player has mostly likely participated in a lot of the game’s content. If the daily cap is then increased to 30k ap and the player only has 30k ap, they might be dismissed as being carried by the daily, while not playing much else of the game.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Tom.8029

The Fractals of the Mists basically provides a basis for players to go back in time and experience passed events. So it’s based on an actual experience, as in, this really happened. Of course the instabilities that occur did not, as those are a result of the actual Mists having an impact on the experience. But the giant Charr really existed. Although, I’m not sure of its origin. Maybe the Dredge’s technology could have impacted this Charr in some way that caused it to grow, as well as an advancement in Flame Legion magic.

If you want more condition damage, you can go Asura or Human for their cultural skills. Revenant - Scarlett Specialization

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Haha. This would be great!

Using the power of the mists, the Revenant can now channel the legend, Scarlet.
Channeling Scarlet gives the player distinct shout and engineering abilities.

“Die, die, die, die, die, die, die!”
Scarlet yells and takes out her frustration on nearby foes, by calling for back-up. Aetherblade ships appear overhead and unleash a red particle cannon on each player within 1200 range.

“Sorry about all the death!”
Scarlet shouts and gains regeneration, protection, vigor, stability, and fury for each downed or dead creature or player nearby.

“Tyria needs me!”
Scarlet recovers from all damage. Scarlet recovers from and becomes immune to all disabling abilities for 1 minute.

Marionette Mayhem
Scarlet summons the Marionette’s foot to stomp the ground and create an earthquake.

Rocket Barrage
Scarlet gains a super badkitten rocket launcher tool kit to torture her enemies.

Invasion
Scarlet calls upon her creations to overwhelm the enemy and drastically lower enemy player fps.

Sounds like fun, right?
Sorry about all the death.

Even if they are geared to do a lot of damage, I still feel like they have 3 health bars.
Some Necromancers open with Death Shroud, so you have to deal with that. After you wipe out that Death Shroud, you have their normal health. Then by the time you get their Health down really low, their Death Shroud is completely full again and they enter it automatically just as you’re about to kill them.

Tom.8029

I could see this happening. But if they do this, they’d have to change some things.
Urns in GW1, if I remember correctly, had to be held during combat to have effects. You’d pick them up and drop them to activate the skills on your bar. They are similar to banners and conjure weapons in that they’d have a presence on the map, but they’d also be like kits in that they would change your character. The kit hobosacks replaced back items (which i know is being changed) and these urns would probably replace your weapons. Because of the changes to kits, they wouldn’t want player’s weapons to be ignored, so they’d have to find some way to be able to pick them up and drop them without them removing player individuality.

This could be cool though. I could totally see a “drop said urn is now a blast finisher” as a trait or something.

Dragonhunter revealed... meh

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tom.8029

Tom.8029

I can’t help but think this is overpowered. Normally I’m not quick to judge, but this time I am, better (and longer range + cripple chance) auto attack on Guardian (wich has tankyness advantage), then on Thief shortbow? wtf. The attack speedrate is also much faster then Ranger AXe skill, wich makes it even more undesirable to use. Elementalist Air auto attack (staff), is also slower then Guardian withour the cripple bonus. So far, on the tankiest prof in game, having the best bounce attack, is not correct imo. Even with damage nerf, if you count the retaliation advantage (especially in wvw), even then it’s gonna be a very strong skill, wich begs the question: Why bother with Axe ranger auto? Why bother with Trick shot? Why bother with Ele Staff Air nr 1, after this comes out, on the already tankiest profession in game? Especially in wvw (maybe not pvp) this will be overpowered, and increase the GWEN population, not down it.

That being said, the design of the skills is great, and something new. My biggest fair is, that it will trample old similar skills that already had the issue of being meta weak. Focus on those skills first (or make the guardian skill weaker then those). Most of the competing professions are less tanky (medium/low armor), so they already should have a damage advantage, and they have not. These professions have also very bad retaliation access furthening the advantage of guardian.

All i’m saying Anet: Think about bigscale battles, where being tanky is already very advantageous, adding a longbow option (especially with that super strong Barrage like skill), if it wouldnt be OP. I can’t help but think: no matter what Anet now does, Ranger traps are not gonna be able to compete, and that’s a shame.

Also don’t forget: by turning Guards into viable ranger territory (not just being ableto carry a bow, but surpassing ranger in many ways with the skills they have), adding a reflect is a good thing?

So guardian will have: Massive Aoe, Massive retaliation, Massive CC, Massive support (stability, heals), Massive range (longbow unlocks this), reflects, Blocks, condi removal

To give just one profesison as comparison (Ranger): Massive Aoe, but only one skill (guard wins hands down), massive retaliation (straight loss for ranger, Axe skill doenst even play a role in this), Massive CC, only Muddy terrain counts here imo, and you must sacrafice survival utility skill for it. Guard wins, especially with ‘infinite target’ skils (hammer 5, staff 5, in zergs those can hit 50 people, ranger doenst have anything like that), Reflects? Ranger looses hands down to guard, Blocks? Again Guardian much better, Condi removal? Again guardian better. Ranger might just win on damage, and that’s a BIG IF, with the current number seen on screen today!! Even armor guardian wins (ranger has slight hp advantage, but armor is better, proven by plenty of forum topics).

In my opinion: Just statistically analize: Dragonhunter is way overpowered. Of course playing it might show some weakness overall, but so far, nope, I haven’t seen weaknesses. No serious ones at least. For instance Pistol auto attack, even with explosions traits coming = serious lack luster damage. Can’t change that fact. If you keep it that bad all new skills that are not this bad, will inevitable become more viable and mandatory and more used, and this is the wrong direction for specialization imo. First fix why certain old weapons are not used. Biggest reason: to weak auto attacks. Ranger axe 1 animation must be speed up to the level of trick shot. Then it’s viable imo, now it isn’t.

Dragonhunter does look very strong. But let’s not forget they’ve only introduced 2 of the specializations so far. The others might make drastic changes to existing professions and open more possibilities to be on par with the current specializations.

I don’t think Dragonhunter will completely overwrite existing Guardian play. If anything it just opens up more possibilities for viable builds. I also thought the Dragonhunter traits have good synergy with some existing Guardian traits.

We need to stop looking at these names as if they are replacing our profession name. They are not. They are a specialization of the core profession, the base profession is still there. A Chronomancer is still a Mesmer and a Dragonhunter is still a Guardian.

The problem is that Dragonhunter can just as easily apply to rangers, thieves, warriors, engineers, mesmers, necromancers, elementalists, etc. I mean, seriously, if the only qualifier for being a Dragonhunter is that you specifically go out and target large game, then guardian or warrior or thief or anything could have just as lazy an explanation to justify the name. A thief specializing as dragonhunter would make just as much sense (they use their cunning, stealth, and ability to target vital areas to take down large game for example).

The problem most people have is that Dragonhunter just feels like a lazy afterthought for a specialization versus Chronomancer, Tempest, or Druid. I mean, Chronomancer, Tempest, or Druid would make no sense if it applied to any of the other classes. But Dragonhunter would make equal sense to all classes across the board.

Any class could just as easily “specialize” in hunting large game / dragons. That’s why it disappoints all of us Guardian mains. Guardian specialization should be a logical extension of its current theme — like a Holy Flame specialization or a Light Warden specialization. But Dragonhunter? That one makes just as much sense as Engineers being dragonhunters. Heck, with rifles and turrets and gadgets, even engineer would make more sense than guardian at being a dragonhunter.

Here’s how I’m thinking about it. Dragonhunters are apparently specializing in taking down large game. While it’s true that anyone can hunt large game, that just corresponds to the person. Not the profession.

Just like anyone can guard as a person, but the Guardian is THE guardian.

Anyone can steal and commit theft as a person, but the Thief is THE Thief.

Anyone can go to war as a person, but the Warrior is THE Warrior.

The same applies to all the others, although Mesmer and Elementalist would require more explanation. But the stream is starting soon!

Bingo. In an actual lottery you buy additional chances via money, here you buy them via time spent farming.

I do agree with what you’re saying. It’s just that in a real lottery, you’re buying lottery slips for a chance to win. With the beta item, if you get it, you’ve already won. Unless you mean that each event you do and enemy you kill is you ‘buying’ another lottery slip with your time and effort for a chance to get the drop?
