Many mesmer mechanics need a complete rework. I cant tell you how many times I have been stuck in a wall or gate rocks, trees, etc. not by choice, but by being stuck in it due to mesmer combat mechanics.
I always felt that portal should be an F5 skill for mesmers on a much higher CD. Still allow the existing portal utility “as is”, since it kinda balances out when it takes up a utility slot by reducing survivability or DPS, and make them both trigger cooldowns of each other so there is no possibility of 2 portals in a row fro ma single mesmer.
The line of sight mechanics in general are borked. I would like to see a following change to portal:
Range 0-600 no change
Range 600+ portals work only on direct line of sight.
See you in four hours babe <3 Please dress nicely we are gonna have a night out in the town.
I cant wait, LOL am not supposed to be on these forums till I get home from work, but o well.
FYI, I am dressed very nicely. Rockin a heavy asura in full nightmare with celestial/abyss with a bronze general title, occasional commander tag and a jugg for the extra shinies for the extra thief bait.
Please target me I thrive on that.
It has been a while since we went up against HoD. Both SF and HoD have undergone some big changes since then. Manpower aside, SF has become far more strategic server wide then we have been in the past.
As I said before, we will have a close match during NA prime time, there will be some absolutely awesome fights regardless of outcome, and the match will be decided by our respective servers off-times.
Some people were wanting to let the other servers cap SM to farm and finish achievements… That doesn’t look right at all.
Doesn’t matter if it’s Friday, or if your server can’t lose by points or if you need achievements, this is just not how the game should be played… Right? :P
Then you try to argue and get flamed in chat. :S
Hi
Just FYI, on my server, SM flipping is not necessarily a bad thing. Many times it becomes an overall strategic server wide decision.
Reason being is that on Fridays especially after reset, it takes a HUGE amount of supplies to hold onto it and we would rather have those supplies available for upgrades on our own keep and towers rather then try to hold on to SM.
While we do cap it, and somewhat hold onto it for PPT, we do not repair or upgrade it. We will defend it by repeatedly wiping groups trying to get it from us and they eventually do, but our goal until we have our keep and the 2 rear towers fully secured is to keep it “paper” rather then invest all we have into it and keep losing all our other stuff due to SM supply drain.
So in fact, we use SM as a supply drain on our opponents and somewhat of a “buffer zone”.
The achievements thing just adds onto that a bit.
Please make sure that you actually verify that is not the case and you are on your commanders VOIP, before making accusations. Map chat often does not show strategies, juts people that dont understand them.
P.S. Also as posters above have stated, if we outnumber servers pretty badly and the conclusion is forgone, then we will usually be relaxed and let them flip stuff for some points, not just SM but other objectives as well. Reason for this is that if we prevent any points being made from the opposing servers whom we greatly outnumber, then it demoralizes them very badly and people stop playing all together. This is not what we want to happen.
Hope this helps you out a bit in the overall understanding of the game.

This game machanic and material is right down idiotic. It does not belong in any game whatsoever for any reason.
The weapon which it makes is supposed to be legendary and epic, not a symbol of farming either the mats or the gold to acquire them.
A-net please fix this.

As of Nov.7th 2013, we are still recruiting players of all shapes and sizes, both brand new and lightly or even greatly used in all 3 of our guild branches.
Just to recap, if you would like to join us:
COSA Red – PvX / PvE / Casual WvW – recruiting all players of all skill and levels, dungeon / fractal runs, guild missions, various PvE events in addition to casual WvW
COSA Blue – WvW / PvX – recruiting WvW centered players – mumble VOIP required for guild raids – contains highly organized and skilled core group of WvW players
COSA Green – WvW / PvX – players in COSA Green tend to be WvW focused but more casual then Blue and also do well in other game modes.
Please see www.sorrowsfurnace.com for more info.
SF still welcomes new and slightly used players alike !!!
As of Nov.7th 2013, our usual que situation is as follows:
Fridays at reset and N/A prime time – expect ques up to 1-2 hours for EB, 5-20 minutes on remaining maps. This tends to die down around 7-8pm server time as our East Coast players start to log off.
Weekends and N/A prime time in general – EB has a small que around 5-15 minutes, remaining maps no que or a small que if we decide to focus on a map.
No ques whatsoever in off-peak times.
Sticking to the lines of transfers, what are reasonable restrictions to place on players after they transfer? No WvW for the rest of the match? No WvW for 24 hours? Would that help any or would it actually exacerbate the problem?
The restrictions you mentioned above will have zero or negligible impact on transfers. They would have to be far more drastic.
For example, when you (a-net) work on the que problems, making it FIFO instead of random, you may wish to reconsider that and instead of FIFO give priority to original server inhabitants for a long long time, maybe 6 months or 2 league seasons.
Yes, you will hear a lot of whining about it, but if you lay out the rules before hand and well in advance, so vast majority of players will have a very fair warning and make a more serious informed decision, then the responsibility for the transfer will be shifted more towards transferring playerbase rather then you and the systems in place in their current state.
That will make a difference, anything short of that is just a wasted effort.
The Mesmer skill “Feedback” needs to be team color coded …
There is no way to distinguish friendly vs hostile feedbacks, so you inevitably hurt your own team and probably don’t even notice it because some poor other guy gets the reflected stuff in his face.
That Pink bubble may look pretty, but its not practical in wvw
Hi
The circle outline is red just like any other opponent AOE, problem is you tend to focus on the “dome graphic”, as I used to.
You can do 2 things to help. 1st set your “animations” option under graphics to the lowest possible setting as this makes the red circles much more visible, 2nd takes a bit of practice, basically train yourself a bit to look at or look for the circles on ground rather then the domes themselves.
This helps a lot, I still get into enemy feedbacks here and there but most of the time I am able to avoid them now.
Hope this helps you a bit.
It has already changed. The last reset was 1h earlier than it used to be.
Wow did it ? LOL I was so excited about the match I must have not noticed, looking forward to tomorrow at 5pm server time then.
Thanks !
Buying guilds through paid transfer. Just wondering what people think about this?
All fair in love and war?
Gutted servers?
Displaced guilds?
Not what you were hoping for?
Just fine? This isnt a poll just wondering how people feel about this kind of transaction
While I do understand individual guild transfers and the reasons why guilds do this, many are looking for different opponents to go against, need a change in their environment / community, etc. Overall this practice is detrimental to the game as a whole.
It often starts a “domino” effect on lower tier servers leaving the server gutted and plummeting downwards while overstacking the already high ranking servers. It should be against TOS and enforcable by a-net.
O and incidentally, at least we have an organized effort on our server to help out our PvE guys gradually get into WvW, and this is where vast majority of our new players come from. Our work, our organization, all of our efforts, what are you doing on your server ? Hanging out in L.A. and spamming in map chat about being thrown out of your WvW maps by the combined and overbearing forces of FARM ?
L O L !!!!!!!!!!
Lets see your efforts and their results before you start ragging on ours.
(edited by Tongku.5326)
Yeah we made a lot of loot too. But what we were doing was testing your response, thats why we only hit 1 keep and not 2. Tell us about the real attack of StaR and CoSA on your garrison while you lost bay an hour and a half later.
PS: Gratz on your gold, just 12 more days like that and you can transfer over to SF. We’ll be…. expecting you.
I run with Deth, but I can also tell you about how we farmed CoSA and StaR constantly in our BL, in the water camp and in our bay most of the time, I used to be in SF, in the old days when King was around with Seven Mirror, Jugglez, Shield, Priest of Lyssa etc. I won’t leave FC though, I appreciate the invite, but I like good fights, If people like me and others left, you wouldn’t have much to fight :/ tl’dr : I was in King for a brief period of time, they taught me a lot in my fighting, but in Fc i learned organized fighting, I thank Seven and all the others for helping me when I needed training in roaming and dueling.
Lol, been farming Deth all morning. We been taking turns killing you guys so everyone gets thier fair share of loots.
LOL I literally killed a Deth gaurdian while he was cowering and trying to turtle in the middle of 6 server mates.
Was laughing so hard I dropped my mouse.HAHA, good stuff. just stomped one while fighting the guild claimer at a camp.
I think farming them is bad enough, lets not comment on it anymore.
Im starting to feel bad now……Ohh look its the bag talking, great you had your fun , now get back in my bagslot I only respect StaR for Shield and some of my old guild mates , out of that, haven’t been impressed, your lot wiped to pugs last time I was there in the waterlake camp, good times, also stomping one, again doesnt define a whole guild, lol 1/10 would see you wipe again as a whole blob :P
About wiping… WZ and Deth, together, wiped to FARM – the PvE people learning about WvW. I lost respect for WZ right there. It was the first time I ever saw deth together, was not impressed.
Personally I don’t recall this happening but even if it did it’s nothing impressive. Deth and WZ didn’t field more then 15 people each for the whole matchup. They often seem bigger cause other guilds like to run with them. Also, when FARM is running they always have other guilds with them which gives them ridiculous numbers. I often do /supplyinfo while I am leading just to have an idea of how many are following me. Most of the time we are between 15 to 30 defending against 50-60. There is a limit to what being a little coordinated can do so don’t start trash talking guilds when they are outnumbered most of the time and still manage to win most of the fights
Seriously ? Seriously ? Who fed you this crap about FARM ? let me clarify and fully explain to you what it is, since I am one of the people that often helps out on it and occasionally run the groups, though it wasnt me this week.
FARM, is a non-guild guild, formed on SF for one purpose, that is to get players that are brand spanking new to wvw together and show them the very besics of the basics, for example:
This is an arrowcart, this is what it does,
this is a ram, this is what it does,
this is why its bad to put down many many rams,
rams dont work on walls,
this is why we can not build 20 omega golems right now,
this is why we like to coordinate our movements
this is what we call cc
this is a combo field
this is a finisher
you have finishers on your weapon skills and some professions have them on utility skills
this is why its bad for you to run around here in your dungeon DPS gear
etc. etc.
Another words, these arent just new people, but BRAND new, many of these players didnt even know groups exist in the game at all, its a shock for them to go from outdoor PVE events solo playstyle to this, many times it is too much info and overwhelming, so we split our sessions into 3 usually, 1 for brand new people, 1 for folks that have a slight idea, and 3rd is a bit more advanced, yesterday was the brand new peoples run, seriously, brand new. If you see anyone with a FARM tag, that means they are either in a bit of training, or guildless and looking for wvw guild for all intents and purposses.
Hope this clears up some stuff for you. If you ever fail to down our FARM group or person, you should seriously just quit and uninstall.
Hi
What time is the WvW reset this Friday ? Nov. 8th, 2013
If I remember correctly the reset time changes due to daylight savings time, but I am unclear, is this Friday going to be 1 hour earlier 5pm server, or stay same 6pm server, or 1 hour later 7pm server time ?
Would be nice to have an official response from Arena Net
Thank You
I strongly disagree here. In roughly the same hour per hour playtime timeframe it took me to obtain 250 silver doubloons for my jug, I have leveled my artifice to 500 and made 5 staffs, 2 for my main and 1 for each of my staff using alts. And thats just the doubloons, what about the rest ?
I think OPs argument is limited to OP and perhaps those people that have the same playstyle, but not to general population. O.P. is in wrong locations, going after wrong targets, not maximizing time / component usage.
(edited by Tongku.5326)
Yes, this is so important, simple guild administrating functions are such chores in this game, there isnt even any tool that helps guild leaders / officers to clean up the roster of inactive players, much less other functions.
Maybe they added a couple more sticks of RAM ?
I have not quit nor do I plan to anytime soon, however I do know some people that have and I am going to put in their reasons which they have conveyed upon their leaving of GW2.
1. Imbalanced population / coverage gaps in wvw making the matches pointless and often pre-determined. Skill / group (guilds) become irrelevant.
2. Imbalanced and boring PvE. Content designed for nothing but zerker builds gets stale and boring. Content needs better AI, condition, control and support builds need to be viable.
3. Some people have left due to ascended gear progression, which does not bother me because of the very shallow nature of it.
4. Some other people have left the game due to lack of meaningful (stat) progression, in contrast to the ones above, it is too little and too slow for them.
5. Flawed game reward system which rewards time rather then effort / skill. Rewards do not properly scale with content difficulty (for example fractal 28 vs fractal 38 vs fractal 55 or farming for legendaries rather then performing “legendary” tasks).
In large part I agree with their reasons for leaving, but I am not as affected by them since I enjoy most of the game except SPVP.
I MISS YOU SF!
BABY COME BACK… pls?
I personally miss fighting IOJ, and many of us feel the same. We will still get rolled by you on PPT cause of coverage, but man those were some awesome fights and a good match, not like what we got here now
Always said if a-net ever combined SF + IOJ into 1 server we would be an absolutely awesome server, we have the right mix to cover right time slot gaps and the right communities to work together and get some amazing results.
Any PvE zerker build is the most useless in WvW. I have seen and play with some awesome rangers, engis, thieves, non veilbot mesmers who help a lot in groups and are very useful. On the other hand whenever I target a warrior and it has 4-5 signets, then I already know its a free lootbag that will take almost half its health in damage just from my auto attack.
Remove points per tick for objectives. 10 points per kill. Now let the best/skilled server win.
This is a very bad idea because then playing for objectives such as towers/keeps/castles will become pointless. It would be just zergs running around trying to outflank and get the jump on each other via high point drops or veils (stealth).
Pure open field combat / GVG gets just as boring as arrow cart wars at both of their respective extremes. What makes WvW unique and fun is a mixture of tactics and strategies, open field zerg busting is just 1 of them, the others should not be discounted or ignored.
However, an adjustment on per kill basis might be nice, for example, just like with bloodlust, give +1 point per opponent spiked while outmanned. That would add up a little bit.
Devon and other guys at A-net
The population / coverage problem is vast, and I do not see a way to fix it without hurting someone in the process. No matter what you do here, some people will get so ticked off that they will leave. In the short term you will lose some players.
However, by fixing these giant complex issues for the long term, you will regain the customers which you lose and give your product far more longetivity then it has in its current state.
I have read a lot of the posts here, and to address the core issues, you would have to make the drastic changes to the transfer costs, lock the transfers to the top 6 servers, etc. Perhaps lower the player map limit a little bit (5%-10%) while at same time giving them the new map to play on and lowering the transfer costs to low wvw pop servers.
Other then that, you can do a large plethora of small “band aid” adjustments for the symptoms, such as many discussed here.
1. Adjust PPT to reflect more participation / effort then time on the map. This adjustment doesnt have to be 0-100%, it can be +-30% for example, or even +-20%.
2. Make some changes to the outmanned and the bloodlust buffs.
3. Start rewarding “server loyalty” in every way.
There are some other ideas which may work but not until other systems are worked out 1st.
For example allow wvw guesting from qued to non-qued map on another server, but this can not nor should be done until there are solid systems in place to deal with wvw trolls, griefers, hackets etc. currently the systems are just not there or non-existant. If 40-50 people report someone several times a day on a wvw map, that should be an immediate red flag with a pager for a-net employee to come in and observe and take immediate action upon seeing evidence. That is not the case.
So before people are allowed to map/server hop in wvw that has to be worked out. Otherwise, dont touch it, you’ll open yourself up to another huge set of issues.
So my overall thoughts are the small adjustments you can make immediately and without much redesign of the system already in place, where the core issues will require much more effort.
You can tackle the problem from many different angles simoultaneously to have less of an impact on existing playerbase, but no matter what, some will be dissatisfied and they will leave, but the game will be healthier for it.
You mean use save yourselves or retreat! for swifness ? Please enlighten me how exactly and precisely do i “think outside the box” as a front runner ? You know, where your utility slots are already being taken up by group buffs and stabilities and combos such as sword#2 arent really an option.
Again, not mid liner, not back side text chat plinker, but as a front runner often with my tag up.
Hi
I use 10 10 30 10 10 for 48+ fractals with a mix of gear which I switch out depending on the group comp and boss we get to fight. For example i’ll go consecrations, staff / scepter focus on the grawl shaman, shouts sword torch / scepter focus on ascalon, GS / Hammer in all melee groups, scepter torch in ice elemental, etc.
I usually run a zerk armor set with traveller’s runes and then swap out my rings, and amulet as necessary. Also swap out my traits and utilities.
As posters above me, I do not do max DPS or max anything, but do everything good enough and can switch back and forth between majority DPS or support with relative ease.
Dear devs
Please keep SPVP exclusive changes limited exclusively to SPVP game mode seriously, by now the rest of us are begining to hate SPVP players due their constant forcing of nerfs etc. on the rest of us. In fact, if its that much trouble and requires that much resources, just remove SPVP from the game, you will not miss many customers and via reallocating resources to the other game modes you will in fact gain a lot more new ones.
On the side note, I might be able to go back to my old mesmer build which would be fantastic.
I am unclear and do not understand fully the guardian swiftness changes. Currently, when I run on my guard, with all the boon duration, and various bonusses I have 10-11 secs of swiftness on a 15 sec recast timer on my staff #3, for a rough total of 70% swiftness uptime when out of combat and staff #3 is available.
This is of course complicated by the fact that it gets messed up when I run through other guards swiftness symbols or an ele puts a short duration swiftness on me or something like that.
So I have a simple question, will my total swiftness uptime be improved or made worse ?
In case it is made worse I have another question, why are you making it worse on a profession (class) which is already the 2nd worse (mesmers are worst) in the game on this critical aspect ? I do not understand the logic here.
My only problem with the living story is that the Toxic Mobs kill supply yaks. On the flipside of this, I would love to see some big kitten dragon spawn and wipe a huge army then fly off and burn all the siege on some random keep somewhere once in a great while. A little added PvE chaos and some completely unpredictable factor would be great on the battle field.
Only a WvW commander will LOL IRL and record it then post it for public viewing when doing a dungeon run with 4 super-pooper-scooper PVE zerkers and they all drop dead while he solos dungeon bosses and carries them.
True story, MULTIPLE times !!!
(edited by Tongku.5326)
fc is still a bunch of scrubs in my eyes. hats off to DR though they definitely stepped it up .. fc biggest flaw = 80 million man blob that doesnt spread their numbers out and cant due to lack of skill ..also if they cant keep a wp their pretty much done cuz they cant spam their whole server in. and that folks is fc exposed like dog nuts. my advice to DR if u wanna take 2nd focus getting down fc’s way points. keep their kitten paper and GG.
Teach us the advanced SF tactics of queuing all of the maps!
edit: I decided to take a few pictures of advanced SF tactics defending the empty map. Thank you all for this wonderful lesson.
Aaaaaaaaaaa thats my guild !!!!!
We are growing nice and healthy but I cant see myself in those pictures
FYI, the guy that was insulting you isnt from my guild, pls take out your frustrations in the correct direction. I know its rough but we had a blast, more then half the people there in those pics are actually our PVE, PVX players and casuals. Its really nice to see them take such interest and I hope it continues.
You should have seen us zerg the jumping puzzles on our last match up and trying to explain the bewildering PvE stuff to our hardcore WvW players !!! Now that was funny stuff, I think Katie got a RL migrane headache from it, bummer we didnt record it.
P.S. (the edit) kitten it !! the quote did not quote the attached images
(edited by Tongku.5326)
Ugh, gold league and T1, keep that crap outta here pls. Every single time I hear we are geting someone from upper tiers I wonder if its someone thats a decent person and fun to play with or another stuck up kitten bag. We have had our share of those to deal with.
Luckily the ones that end up hanging with us at least are cool people that play for fun.
The truth is: The dominant server will always choose who will be second… And both SF and HoD choose that ET was going to be 3rd… Period.
Like Clint said, but even more so, many of us, not just some, wanted you guys to win, and have given you the opportunities to do so, but you completely blew it.
I hope there are some of the old time T8 people left on ET who can get in some commander positions, cause they wouldnt have done that. I remember them being very opportunistic and taking advantage in dynamically changing maps. Instead they forced us to commit to taking out ET so that we would have some breathing room to deal with DH who was the bigger threat.
You are either new to ET, or completely undestimate our sympathy for the 2 servers we were stuck with back in the days of the glicko rot. Just because we still play and want to win, does not mean we dont give you guys a break here and there, but as I said, you have to be able to recognize and take advantage of it.
We have to play against HOD which will be a rough match for us, we’ll see how it goes, but I think it will be a lot like our other match ups, which is we’ll be either winning at prime time or be very close at prime time and then the real outcome will be decided by coverage gap. Sad but true, the fights will be meaningless unless we completely steam roll them, rest will be just up to the off-time cappers.
(edited by Tongku.5326)
I hope ET phones home and wins this match !!!!
The last time we faced FC we lost and we expected a much more even and a tough match up. It is obvious now that we have the numbers up at prime time. Last time you guys pulled ahead during weekdays during our off-time, when we are working or at school, etc. So now we use our prime time to get a big enough lead up on you so you can not easily catch up. We can not underestimate your weekday daytime crew, which means unfortunately the prime time folks will take the brunt of this.
Also, the last time we underestimated you, a lot of us were running alts, weird builds, etc., this time we are on our primary toons, and we are more organized then you give us credit for, you just dont see it because you do not see our map movements, or coordination between guilds on different maps, or in our VOIP.
This time around, if a couple good roamers catch us while we are resupplying or runing back to where we are supposed to be, you will own us, its because a lot of us are runing full group support and if we were to win in 1v1 or small group vs small group, then that means we have to go back to the drawing boards on our builds.
We will see how the week progresses. If we gain enough lead to the point where your day crew is no longer a threat even if they take over all the maps, then we might switch back to our roamers, pve zerkers etc. and mess around and not be so hard up on defending our stuff except primary objectives. But that will not become apparent until maybe Tuesday or so. We’ll see.
And DR is a sort of a wild card in this, although technically smallest they can make a good play for 2nd and contribute to either FC sliding further down or focus us, in which case we will again use our prime time to get the lead.
And yes, we had an influx of new people from PvE, some of whom have comitted to join WvW and are currently getting geared for it and learning. You will run into majority of them in EB, but on BLs as well.
Alas, we are stuck again. In T8 we were stuck due to the glicko system, even when we kept up a 590+ PPT throughout entire weeks, now we are stuck again due to coverage gap no matter what we do when we face any server even slightly higher then us, whom we own in prime time, we just come home and log onto maps painted different colors for 17 out of 24 hours. So we can not advance again. Yes, its an arena net and overall system problem.
Please make yourselves heard in the Colaborative Development thread if you have not done so already, there are discussions there regarding all this.
(edited by Tongku.5326)
Nope, they need to just fix the “inactive” exploit part of this. The rezzing is just cheese, cheap as people above have stated, the exploit that prevents dead people from getting auto logged out needs to be fixed.
I tried it out for 2 days in WvW, kinda useless to mediocre at best. We already have far better ways to clear conditions + the ones not included in this heal. Only time I see it as usefull may be when you repeatedly fight an organized necro/mesmer heavy group, which is rare at best.
I like the new consumables and the new sigil (the new AOE torment). This could most definitely be very useful on a necro or glamour/condi mesmer in wvw, The runes, kinda meh …. There are far better ones already available for the purpose.
Improvements I would like to see in the living story:
1. Design content requiring other then 30 30 x x x full zerker builds.
2. Increase the time to complete the metas to 3-4weeks, instead of 2 for casual players etc. While I do not have any issues completing these, I know many people that do.
3. better rewards, so far in whole living story best rewards were from completing of the Karka event back when south sun got implimented and Orr ember farm. Have not seen anything coming anywhere close to that since.
Do you think you all will make it to silver league?
Not with our lack of night/morning crew
Unfortunate but true though we are seeing some improvement, got some individual people transfers, some PvE ers are sticking around more, etc., we are very very long ways off and will not go up until either arena net adresses these issues as per their “Colaborative Development” thread, or we get some serious transfers to close the coverage gap.
1. Get on your servers VOIP.
2. Stick to a good commander like glue, if none available on your server, you may want to consider transfer for a month or so, really and then come back.
3. Adjust your build for commanding frontline, it is vastly different then a default survivial zerg build.
4. Watch some youtube videos.
5. learn how to run tagless and why the best commanders do so at times.
6. Understand the huge difference between blob pug commanding and your own group commanding.
7. Understand every profession in the game and what they can do for your group, you dont have to know the details but beware of the basic mechanics.
8. Do not underestimate professions such as engis, rangers, thieves in your group. The really good ones are invaluable, the bad ones well, they are the bad ones.
9. Learn zerg busting and driving.
Hope this helps a bit.
Run 1 support guard with group stability in every party. yea, some of it will get stripped, but as a guard I can rock 5 group stabilities and a group stun breaker, I run 4 as default, go to the 5th one if needed.
Also, make sure you use correct armors / buffs. If you are having issues against hammer trains and necros, run 6x rune of melandru + saffron bread, not lemongrass, not MF, not DPS and not the healing food, run saffron bread which stacks with the runes of melandru and some misc PVT gear.
Hammertrain / necro problems solved.
Hi
I play on SF and we have been on both sides of this before, 2 weak servers focusing a stronger one is good thing, and provides a better match up, makes it much more challenging. We have been focused on before a lot including our opposition coordinating large strikes and we dont mind it.
The fights were quite intense for us and there was some serious gameplay on part of everyone involved.
Was fighting one of those Krait elites the other day, and found another example of what i think is a core issue with PVE combat.
For most of the fight each attack from the krait did about 300 damage.
But out of the blue came a single attack that did 1300!
That is x4 the rest of the attacks.
This was a single attack, and i swear there was no tell. And if it was a crit then the mob was packing a crit damage percentage in the 400% range.
Crap like that is downright bad game design.
Hi OP
The reason you take so much damage from these is because you are running wrong build and wrong gear and wrong party comp or you dont have a party at all. Adjusting traits, gear, party comp to the situation at hand is a huge part of the game and requires some knowledge and player skill in itself.
I strongly disagree with you. part of the problem in this game up to date with PVE content is that it is too easy and optimized for all out direct DPS and autoattack.
It is nice to see content where builds other then 30 30 x x x and gear other then full zerker are useful.
While this game does not have a traditional tank, healer, dps scheme, it was originally supposed to work on a DPS / Support / Control scheme, but the devs made the content far too weak and messed up on the bosses so they are immune to the “control”.
It is nice to see them start to take small steps to remedy that as they move forward with future game content.
I’m from GOM and it seems FC [WZ] guild is abusing an environmental flaw. They took down outer ran a Mesmer inside and let him die at water gate. There he stood for 20-30 mins until the zerg was ready they rezed him through the water gate he then portaled them in.
The best part is they did this 3 times till they capped it. We stopped them twice.

yea, they did same thing to us last time we faced them. the screwed up thing is we went to some good lengths to give these guys fair fights, if this inst an exploit then its cheese at its best. i used to think of these guys as a decent wvw guild, but they lost all of our respect.
this kinda crap goes along other exploits in the game such as use of ACs and vid settings to reach normally unaccessible locations etc. its a borderline exploit at best, definitely cheese.
FYI, i’m from SF, not GOM, this is these guys “standard” practice. sad.

Still have about 20-30 open spots after roster clean up, I should also add we welcome players brand new to the game and will help them out in whatever aspect of the game or progression they choose to concentrate on.
P.S. we can help you get your WvW meta done !!!
Funny thing is, one of our best commanders is an engi. He does extremely well, but he has gurds wars in his group providing what he himself is missing.
If you dont want to rely on other peoples group buffs, go guard or war, I think guard is slightly better because extreme mobility makes it too hard for rest of your people to stay on or near your tag while commanding. I use my guard when I tag up. I also play war, mesmer, ele, necro so I understand fully what I can and cant bring to the group on each toon.
And as others have stated, when commanding, go all out for survivability, stability, stunbreakers. leave support and everything else to your people, your primary role is to be the focus, the rally point and not go down.
I believe that all these posts suggesting score adjustments based upon population differences totally miss the point … which is that it is not fun to play when you are significantly outnumbered. In my opinion, the ONLY way to fix WvW is to come up with some way to roughly balance populations in a match. Otherwise we will get the situation where, in an extreme example, an undermanned server can keep the score close by mostly capturing camps or killing yaks. That’s not a full spectrum of the WvW experience.
“cut due to post length….”
I don’t think they completely miss it because many times it is the score imbalance that causes the lower playing population. Unfortunately there are many reasons why populations are and become imbalanced just as there different reasons why score imbalances exist.
Clearly if you’re winning the score while being significantly outnumbered you would not want to change that. Anyway, being balanced was stated as not being a goal of WvW and I don’t have a problem with that. It should be possible to have good fun battles and matches without perfectly balanced sides.
Devon,
The reason is that when one server has a population advantage of even 20 people those 20 people can form a zerg and quickly capture towers & keeps that are undefended. The ease to which an offensive zerg can be formed compared with what it takes to assemble a defense is what creates the scoring imbalance.
Case in point look at this week’s match in the bronze league between Darkhaven, Gate of Madness, and Ferguson’s Crossing (http://mos.millenium.org/na/matchups/map/1093). That match was one of the closest ever until the new patch hit and all of GoM’s PvE players vanished from WvW. If you look at the second graph you can see GoM has not been able to get it’s PPT above 250 for some time now (http://mos.millenium.org/servers/view/43). The reason for this is not that GoM suddenly started sucking, but because we cannot match the numbers of the other servers. The other servers have enough people to push us on multiple fronts and our defenders are too few to stop them. A fully upgraded keep means nothing when a 30 man zerg pulls up with 5 Alphas and only a handful of people are defending.
In terms of how WvW could be designed differently I already made suggestions in this thread, but the gist of my opinion is that capturing objectives needs to be made harder and defending an objective needs to be more feasible for small groups. Also, I agree with you that momentum is part of what affects scoring bursts, but I think that is only an after effect of the core problem. Given that most WvW players play for short periods it’s easy to swing momentum as new groups of players sign on. The actual problem is that when one server out populates another repeatedly the disadvantaged server starts to feel disenfranchised to the point where every battle feels lost before it begins.
Regards.
Except this an example of why an outmanned server should lose. Not enough of your players are willing to join the battle.
While one can feel bad for servers that have lower population and we can wonder if anything be done to change that, when a world’s population chooses not to fight the options are and should be significantly limited. You were able to compete and then chose not to. This is a group activity and in this regard it cannot successfully be regarded or considered at the individual level.
This is one of the good reasons to switch servers. If WvW is a priority for you, then you should go to a server where there are a significant number of WvW players. Perhaps some servers should just not have a WvW presence. Or maybe the bottom couple servers get combined into one WvW force. It could even be based on number of players who’ve participated in WvW over the prior period.
1. Nope. You can always guest for PvE with other Eu/Aussie/SEA players, you can not guest in WvW. A shocking hint: you can organize for PvE just like WvW.
2. When you steamroll an empty or nearly empty maps you are putting in a small fraction of effort, tactics, strategies required, you should not be getting rewarded for that in any way shape or form, directly or indirectly. Reward system needs to reflect player effort which is not possible while taking an empty map.
My hope is that new legendaries will require legendary feats within the game to complete instead of countless hours of farming gold/materials.
A “Legendary” piece of gear should indicate at least a basic level of competence across the entire game, in all game modes, not just how much time it takes to run in FS circuit.
The current game mechanics it requires are just silly, 500 WvW badges ? LOL 1-2 hours of play. Same with dungeon badges, couple speed runs, 2-3 days or 1 session on multiple toons, done.
Less farming more of a competence/capability check pls.
