yes you do want kleptomaniac bc there will be a few occaisons here and there where you might miss 2x CND and need an instant boost of init for another chance

Currently running the second but I’m not sure if the little caltrops circle from dodge ever catches anyone. You lose 50 condition damage as well by switching to the above but instant poison to cover bleeds is useful.
This would require me to steal more, I always forget.
Another issue, Pistol mastery in Crit Strike line? Really? I’d like to take it but CS doesn’t work with condi builds.
this is exactly what i run. lol used to get some haters on it bc they prolly didnt understand that it works well. i use uncatchable bc sometiems yes a zerg will catch you when ur not ready and it gives u that extra chance you need. also i sometimes just run 0 0 30 30 10 for the caltrops but depends if ur roaming or not.
if not raoming than just do caltrops or somethign. poison only good if ur alone.

idk i do see a problem with cluster bomb. its near useless in wvw now. they already cant triangulate or use the pythagorean theorem to figure out how to make the distance of cluster bomb or such skills work on a non-linear path. for now if ur on the edge of a tower aiming down its doing str8 distance adding up what it takes to get tehre as if used the hypotenuse as a measurement. they need to factor in distance and hieght as factors ….arch and speed as well. if ur on a tower you can always aim farther bc u have a farther time for it to travel when up higher. anyway :
TL DR = cluster bomb with 900 range will barely be able to get past the rams on a tower if ur above it. its already short enough as is. this is a joke.

cluster bomb…yeah the speed sux the dmg is good but not amazing. rediculous. i mean seriously 900 range? my daughter can make a bow that goes that far with a stick arrow for x sakes. lol. ive never once heard any player complain about shadow return or cluster bomb but now both getting nerfed. stupididty. i think that cluster bomb and the death blossom changes are really bad for thieves. they are literally pushing everyone into playing 1 of 2 builds. its gross.

wish is right. u have higher dmg (by a lil) higher hp and higher defense. and your utilities dont all have to be defensive (thieves are).

still tho RFI is a 60 sec skill. would make it strong but not OP….i mean best you can get it to is 48 secs with 20% decrease. its mainly an evasive skill…. but only way we can use it is when we are in a 1 v 1 or 1 v 2 when they are infront of us or else we have to stop….turn and then fire it. also really not a big deal we dont need gap closers….steal…shadow step…infil sig…infil strike…. shadow strike? (pistol one)…..heartseeker…..shadow trap….. etc. not like we cant fill our bar up as is with those and all of them are quit short on cooldowns :P
i really hate to say L2p as it is not very constructive but i think you should try mess around with builds. signet of rage build is quite nice and owns plenty of thieves. immob is a thieves worst enemy. so is Knockdowns. so once that thief uses his 1 or maybe 2 stunbreaks that is the time you ahve your window of capitalization where he is very vulnerable. anet does not favor thieves….we have only ahve 1 change to thief class that benefitted us since day 1 :P thats Larcenous strike. the rest have been nerfs and unparaleled at that. any thief with 3100 armor is still getting hit like hes a zerker. thief defense is almost irrelevant. really we get hit VERY hard no matter what. and if a Thief CAN do 8k hits…it means you can use 1 whirlwind and kill him with it still finishing. also learning to dodge/ block or go invulnerable and when to use whirl skills is a part.
@atherakhia….. lets say u ahve 20 [people chasing u for a kill :P u ahve RFI and Withdraw on your bar. how are you going to use that WHILE u are running away… and i am going to assume most people dont backpedal when running away. you literally need to about face (180 degree turn) which the enemy prolly gets 600 distance in that time or atleast close enough to range CC you. it can be costly most of the time. so it would be quite advantageous to be able to choose a direction or atleast point it forward so you see where you are going.

@ ELDAIN STENLUND …… tell u what…if u wanna have only 1 weapon set then ill say ur right. but until then u have just as much skills as us to use if not more. we only have one weapon set ….or rather one set of skills to use bc both sets use the same cooldown aka intitiative system. so when we “spam” a skill 2 or 3 or even 4 x in a row….sometimes 5 if we have init regen or gain up, then we are out of initiative and out of skills. so we spam something 5 x then it takes 15-16 secs to repeat that same exact spam set. for a warrior…. u can use skill 1 2 3 4 5 then swap then 1 2 3 4 5….so in the same time you have 10 skills spammed vs our 5 before you ahve to wait to use mroe….but the best thing about warrior is soon as the next 8 secs are up you can do it all over again! so where we wait 15 or 16 secs for a refill u just swap after 8 and all ur attacks are up again. not to mention your 20% cooldowns and -1 sec weaponswap option plus another -1 on sigil if u choose. so yeah thieves come up way short when it comes to spamming skills ya?
if u want ur dmg above 6k on your bs ur going to pay for it alot on defense/evades
if ur talking fighting mesmers alone …. s/d is not your best bet. if ur talking about using it in conjuction with wvw/spvp then s/d or/and d/p is your best bet….. depends if ur dueling or if ur want a good overall build for pvp. if its dueling d/d and p/d is best
i think you should be able to choose forward or backward if thats possible. either way tho you’d be wanting it the other way at one point.
i find the only time i have problems with mesmers is when im on my high dmg builds. d/d evade condi…..p/d bleed….. work well…. not only that if u really wanna go dmg u have to REALLY go dmg so u kill all their clones in 1 auto attack shot. then u just follow around the mesmer as the waste endurance and skills…… and then attack them….as ive said ive beaten mesmers with auto attack on my 30 30 0 0 10 build …. mesmers are almost always if not always….reliant on their clones/phants/ etc ….much more than a thief is on invis. this of course only works in wvw as wvw is fair for a thief and spvp/tpvp is biased against a thief due to dmg restrictions. but thats a different conversation for a different time. anyway try one of those u guys might like the results depending on your playstyle preferences. enjoy

It’s not that ArenaNet nerf and buff things according to their testing…
from the videos ive gathered this is what i see: (first off cant tell if thats sarcastic as it loses tone and depth due to plain black and white reading) but anyway what i gather from the official videos/interviews is that they usually hypothesize and run numbers etc but never use the scientific method or use controls etc very “observational” only. the actual test comes in once they form a general consensus and put it into effect. the actual community is the test. kind of like when they nerfed stealth :P didnt work so well. or rather too well. and had to revert it in some areas. not only that it killed spvp stealth builds. hence why they are really ever played.
this is when i miss the old hotkey emotion buttons :P cant have em on this game. oh well :/
@excalibur u do get hit that hard. :P WHEN u get hit…..u Do get hit that hard…..evading is a different conversation. also theres no way that thief should have gotten a stomp of when whoever it was was stomping the mesmer unless they were alone and roaming. its really ahrd for a thief to stomp when in larger groups. ive been at 80% hp with 14k hp and died before i even finish my stomp :/ it happens but i dont complain.
@fade fade is right. thief gets hit no matter what VERY hard lol. so if u want defense…go with vitality and perhaps healing.
i USUALLY win this fight with p/d….the real key is to move around and be patient and i use 0 0 30 30 10 for my build which works better than most others i have noticed. i also win much easier with d/d 30 30 0 0 10 and d/d 10 0 0 30 30 evade condi. but thats a diff story.
Use daggers. S/P sucks bad against anything besides melee trash and soloing stuff.
d/d thief full dps (5 scholar + 1 dinvity
sorry but that’s just bad. If you want to make that good, just go 6 scholar. There’s no reason why someone should not take that flat 10% extra damage. If you’re only doing it for the power then go 6 orbs and be 10x better than that terrible rune set up.
ive made it work in pve….using sigils of rage and the quickness skill and the quickness trait amongts other things…..PW is very dungeon viable
id like to say i love all the thieves who just attempt to make this into a science to prove their points. its SOOOO much better/farther than the QQrs go to at lengths…. i mean if u have a point this is the way to do it. although you need a better understanding of the scientific method :P and a control etc also i saw many other people attacking in here so hard to guage what is what.
most important point is to know when to use the skills. i think u left that out. in the d/d builds use a dodge/skills at roughly 2.5 secs after him using CND on you or after using black powder or hide in shadows. on DP you have about 6 seconds of invis if he stacks it so run run run when u see that little circle then turn around and run right back at it with a dodge around 4-5 secs after invis then maybe aoe ground ice/blind or w.e. or dodge again. there is nothing worse tha a thief wasting initiative. the only kittene to guess is when he uses shadow refuge but atleast you can do some mean kitten to him in that circle for 4 seconds

12 out of 20k which is 60% of your full HP. lets put a thief into your position. 14k is norm for a thief HP….60% of that is 8400 hp…… no a thief is stomping that mesmer with 8400 hp and NEVER has stability on for it :P ….any class can go poof game over you r dead :P try stomping as a thief…..we have it the worst. even with invis to stomp. we get block back …pulled….pushed….knocked down and stunned/dazed.
i really gotta say either drop 10 in shadow arts or acro bc you really want 30 in crit (imo) bc of hidden killer….ur not going to hit that hard with this b uild unless ur really runnin full berserker so u wreally want that hard hit in stealth.

My main is a thief and i watched that video over and over a couple of times, do you realize how MUCH survivability that guy has sacrificed in order to basically be a one trick pony?? ALL THAT GUY CAN DO IS A NICE BACKSTAB. he can probably take about 4 hits in pvp then hes dead, he has absolutely no escape tools…no CC breaks, can remove ONE condition every 30+ seconds oh and sorry he can blind a SINGLE enemy every 30+ seconds…yea real OP guys

it was the max dmg backstab build. and its more of a dueling base for crazy dmg. ive played immortal mesmer wit this and a few other classes. if u change all the utilities for like shadowstep….roi…..infil sig…..and use d/d and s/d then its amazing. i literally played a few mesmers and challenged them to a fight using NOTHING other than auto attack and utterly destroyed them. i was at like 30% hp everytime i won but all the clones were 1 sec kills. use sig of rage on each set plus the one in traits etc. but yeah in pvp/wvw its pretty much = death. still fun to go just gank somebody in one hit tho.

troll is more of a build you cant kill and cant kill you hence “trolling” d/p is hard to kill but can also kill not just be annoying. but i do get whatu mean in a way. if ur not trying to kill yeah it can be a troll build

doomdesire is right. thief is bad in wvw unless u just roam for 1 v 1s :P which is fun but not helping your server/guild. PTV is horrible set for a thief but also his point is it wont matter your armor or build ur always squishy. if you like to do small battles and solo camps or stuff like that and teleport alot sure thief is fun . but dont expect to mix it up in a battle of 5v 5 or higher and expect to do well with all the incidental dmg from AOE and being near others. :P
any build a thief uses is going to feel like a troll build bc just over half of our skills are almost kitten useless so it kinda forces us to use the same patterns. then again all classes have a set rotation/pattern.

This build’s been around for a good while now, but with D/D instead of S/D. Having both direct and condition damage + Rampager gear maximizes your output by taking advantage of Might to the fullest.

id say spvp / tpvp is where you can get the most relevant taste for balance. any class in a zerg can be rolled over. some (thief) have no chance unless on the very outskirts and attacking a stray sheep.

if ur one shot from stealth u have a bad build or are upscaled. literally. lol. and the thief has a bad build too. and if ur a good player…which is what pvp is really for (non new players) then you should be able to time it. the only time u cant is when shadow refuge is used adn that is basically a minute cooldown

hammer warrior attacks are super slow AND melee. take a distance caster CC player and yes its usually a game over scenario if more than 1 is around. not instant death but thief has basically slim to none survivability in a zerg fight bc of this and their MOST squishiness…..unless running high/full vitality they can hang around longer but not really help in the dmg department.

I dont quite understand people who wants to duel and run around the entire area and completely out of the bounds of a duel area only to heal up etc…the entire map isnt the dueling area , this 720 radius is all thats needed..now lets dance shall we?
so basically run engi ftw? supply elite in those rules are about 300% overpowered. just drop it in the middle and pull with engineer/immob :P cmon theres no chance. personhally if i see an engi drop supply… i would never go near it.

is there a rule that the thief HAD to go into his turrets? what i do is wait til they end….make him drop supply crate. i also dont play zerk s/d as its too fragile. i personally dont lose to engineers but then again i dont hang around supply elite :P
